Attention Podcast (ermmm Netcast) Lovers!!! The defacto must-have App! - General Topics

Hi All,
So I'm a big audiobook, and Netcast fan! I currently own a Fuze (former Tytn II) and have been often frustrated with Podcast playing in general.
First off I must say hats off to RSS Hub for managing downloads/subscriptions to Podcasts Doable. It's not perfect, but it works and it sync's over 3G/Edge (*cough* *cough* IPhone, welcome to 2005)..
For the longest time I've been using either Media Player, or the built-in TouchFlo player. Either way it's frustrating for Podcast listeners. If you're listening to a 1.5 hour podcast and usually my commute doesn't last that long, so I stop it when I get to work. Now I'm on my way home again gotta reload the podcast... fumble around with Media Player (why skip only moves forward a couple of seconds on a 1.5 hour MP3 baffles me!) for like 5-10 mins of my drive until I find where I had reached in my podcast....
Well thanks to PocketPlayer... no more!!! No I'm not affiliated in any way... The ability to resume without doing absolutely anything has made me love this thing so much I felt compelled to share with my fellow netcast lovers!
Basically the process is simple:
1) Load up RSSHub
2) Click on the Podcast (after you installed PocketPlayer and set it as default for MP3 of course)
3) Listen, enjoy... Exit when you're done.
4) Go back to RSSHub, click on the Podcast again... and BAM! like magic you resume right where you left off... (Puts a tear in my eye)
BTW for those of you interested:
Some great Netcasts to subscribe to:
1) This Week in Tech (AKA TWIT)
2) No Agenda (w/John C. Dvorak, find it very humorous and/scary at the same time)
3) DiggNation
http://www.conduits.com/products/player/ to get the player...
Sorry for those who have known about this for a while, not all of us are up to speed and I share for those like me who live under a rock!

Also, I recommend my Podcasting bible for more info on getting podcasts, syncing them and playing them back. I've also elaborated on resume support in all podcatchers / podcast players / MM players.

Please make sure you read all my articles - I've listed all the SHOUTcast-capable clients in the chart of my dedicated article at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=350181
Maybe not the most efficient way, but the way I went after this was to install Core Player then, on my PC, go to the Shoutcast website and right click the Tune In link and select 'Save As'. I then named the .pls file after the station. Once I saved a bunch of stations I was interested in, I copied the (very small) .pls files to my device (AT&T Fuze). I now just launch Core Player, Click Menu, Click Open File, and select the .pls file for the station I want to listen to.
It is a bit of hassle to gather up all the .pls files you want, but this works very well for me. I work in a cubicle at work where our proxy blocks everything enjoyable, so with my HTC ear buds and my phone plugged into USB for power, my work day is much more enjoyable with music to listen to.
Edit: I just tried jamespaulritter's link above, and it works fabulously. I just click Tune In on the station I want, and it goes right to Core Player and gets down to business. Thanks, jamespaulritter!
Kinoma Play
Comes with SHOUTcast , and Live365 in the services menu.
I went ahead and bought Kinoma Play. Holy cow, man! This thing is the holy grail of portable entertainment!
Yeah, it is really versitile and I love the guide content. I just wish the menu system worked better. back, back, back, back to get to the main menu gets old.
Thanks! love this site

M4B Audiobooks on Windows Mobile

Hi,
I used to listen to a lot of audiobooks during a day on my iPod. Since I have a decent sized memory card in my HTC Topaz, I'd rather use it instead so I only need one device with me. The problem is that all of my audiobooks are in .m4b format, so I need something that runs on WinMo that can:
1. Play this .m4b format (I think it's just AAC)
2. Bookmark where I am in each book so if I close and re-open the player, the book continues from where I left off
3. Allows fine tuned rewind/fast forward as I often rewind 5-30 seconds to hear some part of a book a second time
4. Show me the chapters of M4B (Unicode support).
5. In iPod there is an option to listen at faster speed, which is very nice when you can short the time for a book by 25%.
6. Support the Bluetooth Play(Main)/Next Chapter(VolUp) etc buttons.
I've found tcpmp/core player can play .m4b's, but it's not great at bookmarking. That is, if I'm listening to a book, close the player and re-open it, the bookmark works fine and it continues to play where I left off. However, if I open any other file in between, the bookmark is lost. This is made worse by the inability to do any fine tuned rewind/fast forward. The only option is to use the progress slider, which tends to jump in VERY large increments.
Any suggestions?
You hit the nail on the head with this one. Any luck finding an app for us??
m4b on windows mobile
still an unsolved question... The first post here still brings it right to the point!
There are two indispensable functions regarding a m4b player for me:
- remember last position for each audiobook when stop playing / restart player / change audiobook
- possibility to list and scroll through chapter marks (!) - which seems not to be possible with any player I know...
I'd be glad to hear somebody has found a solution???
PocketMusic 5.3.5 does remember playing position in m4b, however chapters navigation is still an open issue.

Looking for a good Podcast Reader

Hi guys,
I tried to find out if something was already posted... but nothing came.
So I am looking for a good podcast reader which would enable me to download and manage my audio Podcast directly on my HTC HD2.
For the moment I am using YomoMedia, but it only alow to download/keep the last 20 Feed and sometimes I need to be able to have more. Plus it is not possible to listen to them directly in the application and because of that it is not possible to listen to them, one after the other without doing anything.
Thanks for your suggesiton.
Ulysses
I second that.
Since I've bought my Kaiser i've been looking for a good podcast app.
For me, it should have:
Podcast Playlist - I want do press "play" and it would play my new podcasts one after another, without stopping and without the need to go in the phone to play the next (a must to listen to podcasts while runnig, for example).
Automatic download - I should be able to scheduled download, for exemplo, every day at 08:00. It would also be nice if it has a funcion like "refresh whenever there is an available connection".
Also, I want one that will not only refresh but download the audio itself, so, if I want to listen to it later, I can, even without internet.
All the options I've tried have some or none of this, wich is kind of frustrating...
BeyondPod seems to be very good.
Automatically checks and downloads new podcasts (on program launch or in the background on a schedule).
Can configure to only download over WiFi, or 3G as well.
Can choose media player to play back podcasts (incl itegrated one)

I saw this in OpnMarket, but it misses the "playlist" function.
You can't play podcasts sequencially and without intervention...

That is exactly what I mean, thanks for the better formulation
I found a kind of work around...
You kann manage and download your podcast with YomoMedia. Then you will find them in the Normal HTC Sense Music player (in Library, Artist under the name of the podcast or Radio who produce the podacst, etc...)
Then you can play them one after the other using the Repeat function.
But of course it only work if you have several podcast produce by the same source... or maybe with the Genres (by me they are under Radio), etc...
It is not ideal... but better than nothing !

It is a good idea indeed, but the problem is that, when you listen to you podcasts regularly, most of the times you'll have only one episode of each.
What I'd really like is this.
I have podcasts feeds 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.
Today, I have new episodes in 2, 4 and 5.
I want to just push "play" and listen to 2, 4 and 5, marking then automatically as "read".
Tomorrow I have new ones in 1, 2 (different from the day before) and 4. So I want to press play and, again, only listen to the new ones, without having to manually go to podcast 1, then 2, then 4...
I really like now the "SmartRSS Touch GR Edition" - great name eh?
It works online with a direct link to google reader where I have my RSS catalogue.
The Podcast section of this app is great - I can select if I want to download a podcast and then it keeps it in a separate folder. I don't know the limit, however, on how many. Give it a try.

"podcast" app?

this isn't really specific to the DX, but it's what i have so i'm asking here:
i'm looking for an app that will play really long mp3's (like hours long... like a podcast) and, more specifically, will remember where you are in the podcast when you quit the program and start back up at that point when you want to start listening again.
currently i'm just using the native music app and i have to try and remember myself where i left off in a podcast and manually skip ahead to that point every time i need to stop and then come back to a particular file.
thanks for the info!!
I've been using Google Listen for audio podcasts

I like .podkast. I download and listen to them with it.
Carcast. You can search for, download, and listen to podcasts in it. It remembers where you are in the podcast and restarts it from where you left off. It's also free...
Stitcher is the best podcast app it seems to have everything
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Check out PodTrapper. I used this app all the time when I had a Blackberry. When the dev came out with the Android version, I made the switch over to Android.
It's a powerful app that I use on a daily basis.

Beyond Pod works great
Doggcatcher. best podcast app there is. and it's temp on sale with funds going to support Japan.
Listen....
Ive used pretty much all of them (except for DoggCatcher, because it aint free...)... Heres my humble opinion:
For almost one year, i used aCast, in my rooted HTC G1 (CyanogenMod 6.1), worked fine, until out of the blue, stopped catching...
I have to say, i ONLY use it to download and listen to TWiT casts... ive also been looking for an entertaining podcast featuring alternative punk rock music, but havent been sucessfull (suggestions are appreciated).
After aCast, i went on trying mostly every single podcast catcher i could...
Hapi Podcast worked awesome on my Droid X for maybe 4 months, i actually rated it 4 stars and an inspiring comment, and then.. poof... no synching..
Ive been happy now with Google Listen... Its the most simple of them all, plus, it syncs well with google reader on your pc. It remembers where you left on all your casts.. (well i usually sync down oly 5 or 6, and it does remember the part where im at, every time)
Google Listen seems to be my the app for the job.

[APP] Best Podcast Apps List!

Hi all! I did a bunch of searches trying to find out the best App for downloading or streaming podcasts, but the results were scattered and few. So I decided to compile a list of the best podcasting apps for android out there (with links) and ask the rest of the community to review the apps and make suggestions. As new apps are suggested I'll edit the list so that a bunch of podcasting oriented apps can be found in one place.
(Links will be placed as soon as I can. I'm new to posting, not to research. Search for these in the marketplace.)
Paid:
BeyondPod (7 day free trail)
DoggCatcher
Pocket Cast
Free:
PodKast
PodKicker
PodKicker is my favorite. It updates automatically, streams and downloads podcasts (with the RSS Link), has a simple player UI, and best of all IT's FREE!
what about listen?
As a big podcast listener, I have tried pretty much all of these. BeyondPod was the best there was on WM, but I don't quite feel this way on Android.
On Android, my personal favorite has been Pocket Casts.
https://market.android.com/details?id=au.com.shiftyjelly.pocketcasts
Pocket Casts is easily the best podcast app I have used. Also it is frequently updated and the developer is more than helpful.

Well, I had trouble with it streaming. An error would always appear. Also, the market/search was horrible.
But what does everyone else think about listen? If I get enough people saying they're on the Listen band wagon I'll add it to the list.

On using Stitcher for awhile I've found that it's a solid app for main stream podcasts, such as NPR and CBS created podcasts, but lacks the ability to upload through a link. There are a ton of podcasts I listen to that weren't in their market, so that's a down side to me.
which one gets the best battery life? pocket casts seems to drain my battery pretty quickly, I mean I guess the phone can't sleep while playing audio but just wondering if any get better battery life when playing than others.
what podcasts do yall listen to?
Was skimming thru the latest threads and decided to reply (Incredible 2)
.podkast used to be awesome (on GB) but since I've been on ICS it's only offered in foreign languages (from the market).
It had absolutely EVERY podcast available.
-Truckin'-
Podkicker, one of the very free that has managed to find every podcast I've searched for...most of the big name pod streamers can't find popular podcasts.
It's also one of the easiest to run, and easiest on the eyes!
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
I use DoggCatcher and love it. Tons of options, works great on ICS 4.0.4 (Droid RAZR MAXX) and a nice feature is I can skip ahead or backwards in podcasts (jumped by a set interval) by pushing the SKIP and PREV buttons on my car stereo. (When connected via Bluetooth)
No battery issues -- has onscreen playback controls on the lock screen and notification bar (native ICS) and I set it to only download podcasts at night when the phone is connected to power.
I use AntennaPod - it is free and minimalistic

I've fooled around with BeyondPod Beta but it's left me cold. Any other open source solutions out there?
