dificulty locating themes - Touch Pro, Fuze General

greetings all,
i've attempted to search this site and have read the wiki. i saw the sticky on not starting threads until exhausting other options, but i didn't find the answer to my particular question.
i installed teh Tf3d config, but none of the themes i've installed are showing up in the drop down menu under appearance. i've tried relocating them to various spots on my device and storage card, but nothing seems to work. in one tutorial, i read to creat a new folder named Internal Storage/Themes/ but my device would not allow this as a folder name and i've tried slanting the slashes in both directions.
one of the themes was a zipped file, the other was not. the zipped file was DL'd to my PC first, then i extracted the files to my device.
the TF3D config seems to be, otherwise, working fine. i've deleted a tab and rearranged the others.
any help would be greatly appreciated.

for ease of use several people have create cabs out of their themes.. simply install the cab file. look for a thread created my mobile matt (username mchapman) it has several themes and mods in it.

one of the themes i've installed is a cab. however, it does not show up. that's what the problem is.
i guess the title of thread could be a little misleading. i'm not having trouble locating themes to install - tf3d config is having trouble finding them, after i do.
ETA - i searched for the thread you mentioned, but it says "mchapman" is an invalid username
ETA - i've found this instruction to be a little confusing. if somebody could PLEASE give me a little clarity on exactly what they are telling me to do:
- Create the root of internal storage of your HTC Touch Diamond a folder named: Themes
thank you

can someone just explain this one sentence, please.

Means create a folder named Themes. no sub folder (or folder inside a folder).

is this something that requires a registery editor? i ask because, i've attempted making a folder with that name in several locations then placing the file in it. it still won't show up in the drop down menu.
exactly where do create the folder named "themes"?
thanx

Maybe this will help. If you were to create this folder on your pc instead it would look like this:
C:\themes <- C:\ is your root directory.
so on your phone the folder should appear in the list with windows and program files and document and storage card. It should be \themes NOT something like \Program Files\themes

Saving files/attachments - directory tree view

Hi,
When saving attachments from outlook you get a very annoying save as scrren which you specify where to install the files to.
Unfortunately this only allows you to choose storage card or main memory and then choose the first level folder.
What if you need to save to a lower level folder?
I did some searches on this forum but couldnt find anything but I can almost be certain this has been discussed. I remember there was a little utility that changed this save as screen to a proper tree level view save as screen....
does anyone have this?
Cheers...

Bingo... exactly what I was looking for!
about a million times better than original save as screen...
RFF... it would be nice to have a new folder button!
Thanks for your help Vijay
Is there something to list the entire tree structure of the PPC and External Card Storage when you use the File --> Open in most programs?
For example, I store all my PDF's under \Storage Card\My Documents\E-Books\
When I use the File ---> Open Dialog in Adobe, it shows me very few directories. I'd like to be able to browse to any folder on the PPC in the Open File Dialog Box.
I hope somebody can help in this regard.

How to... copy/move files stored in a Smartphone ROM?

I can't copy or move files stored in device ROM.
I've tried with Resco Explorer and Total Commander, but without success.
I didn't understand if there's a registry hack that allows these operations.
I've notice (or so it seemed to me) that I was able to substitute/copy/move some files having the ROM attribute, but many others not (eg: I've tried to copy the nleddrvr_sec.dll, obviously without success, otherwise I'd post this here!).
Surfing in many forums, I read many others asking for the same thing, unfortunately I haven't seen answers to their question about this.
Hope someone explains to me how to do or why is impossible to do.
Mersì bo q.
Gubbài.
You can not copy / move / delete files in ROM. Thats the point of "Read Only Memory"
These files are not stored as individual files but are in fact packed in a special way as part of the device image which can only be written (flashed) by special tools.
If you want to extract OS files you need to use a ROM dump tool.
I suggest you look in the WiKi.
What you can do is overwrite one or more "ROM files". What will happen in reality is that a copy of the file with the same name will be placed in storage memory and the system will go there. If you hard reset your device or rename the file it will go back to the original file.

As you said here and here (Changing Files in Windows Dir )
it's impossible to move/copy ROM files, just overwrite 'em.
Doing so the system looking for these overwritten copies.
So now the question are:
- there's a registry entry that points to this substitute ROM files?
- to modify an existent file resident in ROM I MUST dump my ROM or another one same or similar?
Mersì bo q, anyway.

TFM2DC Themes???

I have Conflippers 10-21 ROM on my alltell touch.. So far I have not had to many issues and the problems I have had, I found the answers pretty easy either here or over @ ppcgeeks.. But these themes are killing me.. I'm sure it is something simple I am just not seeing but here I am anyway..
I have found and read through the theme threads, found some I like and downloaded the zip files. I unzip them to my pc no problem.. Here is where the problems start.. about half the time when I try to move them to my storage card through activesync I get a alert telling me it cannot convert a file.
now if it does copy over ok, I can go through the md2c and see the folder on my storage card but if I try to add it to my themes folder I get a error that says I am missing the HTChomesettings.xlm(I think) file and it will not add it?
what am I missing here.. since this does not seem to be a common issue I know it's something simple... but it is just escaping me...
P.S.. sorry for the poor grammar. I am doing this at work from my phone...
Thanks for the help.
U're absolutely missing .xml file (HTCHomeSetting). Try to use another xml file, m2dc should be working after u put .xml file on windows folder
Is there just one file for all themes or is this a file that should be included with every theme I download??
the reason I ask is a couple of the themes I have tried work just fine.. most though give me the error though..
Some of the themes has no .xml file. Just look at the clock style in the home tab. If it's similar with another themes that u ever used succesfully, simply put the .xml file in windows folder. Good luck
What file are you copying to your device? The file you copy should be some how compressed and contain the xml in the root folder.
Some of the themes I have downloaded seem to be packed into a folder and some of when you unzip it are all the file individual.... (does that make since?)
Either way I put them on my storage card and then point M2DC at the storage card a couple of them seem to work fine and some of them give me the error

Loading resource.zip files

I've done my searching homework, but haven't found a reference on how to load a resource.zip file. Is this done the same as an update.zip, or am i supposed to manually load the contents via the shell?
Just curious. I'm currently running 5.0.1H.
Thanks in advance.

Doubtful.
Unzip the resource.zip to your SD card.
You'll have two new folders.
audio
resource
Enjoy.
and put it in the /sdcard/media/ folder for the audio...
the wallpapers can go wherever..
thanks
I DID actually do just as I told you I did, and I appreciate the answer. There was 1 thread on this board in the search results for 'resource.zip'. Those topics talked about the contents, but not the method of using the file.
I'm familiar enough with the SDK to know that a zip archive is just a java container that, if formatted correctly, can be used by the system, hence the reason I didn't just dump the contents on my SD card which I knew I could do. I figured since i had seen multiple versions of this file... always named the same... with a zip extension, that it MIGHT actually be a file that the API would recognize and do something with.
I'll go find the wiki and put this up there so as to prevent someone else from having to search for this.

Theming the phone

Hello all,
I am new here and just got my Galaxy S 4g. I am used to creating themes on the iphone and am getting very frustrated with this phone so far. I have rooted my phone, and also downloaded go launcher and a couple widgets. and a couple different file explorers.
Problems I am having is that everyone says the apps and themes are located in the phones data folder. My data folder is always blank with nothing inside. I search for the exact name or location of the apps and it says 0 files. I look at the apps running and details of them tell me they are in the /data folder, but My folder says empty. I even have the show hidden files checked.
Also I am trying to find a way to browse the phones files (not the memory card files) from my computer. I have now read over hundreds of pages of searches and can not find any answers.
Please help me.
the files that you are going to want to find are the framework-res.apk and twframework.apk.
those files are located in the system/framework/
i use android commander to push and pull files cause it is the easiest for me. you will need winrar to unzip the apk's but if you want to edit the .9.png's you will need APK manager to unpack the .9.png's and Ultimate Compiler to recompile after you edit or the png's will stretch wrong and look horrible.
There is a link on the main Android Themes page on XDA that has a wonderful write up in PDF about theming...
ill see what else i can post when i have time later to help you out.
