3g in 850Mhz - G1 Android Development

any chance of 3g in other frequences?
is software error or the hardware no have support
in brazil i use 850mhz, Vivo operetor
i can buy this device but without 3g in 850Mhz i no will buy
if have chance of the developpers resolv this issue in future, i will buy

The 3G chipset I believe is actually a 3.5G chipset which runs on its own separate dual band (I think 1700/2100 or something around there). As far as I know the hardware doesn't support quad-band 3G and if it does there's no driver that tells the OS to do 3G over standard quad-band.

Not gonna happen with the G1.

Ya 3G is a different frequency. In general T-Mo is 1900 and ATT is 850 (standard gprs 2g networks), but 3G is a total diff frequency as Ron said. Almost everyone uses 2100 with Japan or something being 1700 far a I know.

Oi,
Tommy
Hi,
Unfortunately it won't work. The G1 only supports the 1700mhz and 2100mhz bands, and it is because of the hardware, not the software. There will be handsets with Android and 850mhz 3G support, but as of yet none have been released.
Sorry for the bad news
Tommy

The G1 only supports 1700 and 2100 unfortunately. T-Mobile is the freak network in the freak network country. The US doesn't use normal 2100 bands like Europe and Japan but AT&T uses 1900, 850, and one more that slips my mind. The G1 won't work on those networks unfortunately (I'm not AT&T and not having 3G sucks) but it is still an amazing phone even on EDGE although I still keep my iPhone handy to switch sims in case I need 3G for tethering and such. My advice, if you want the G1 and already have a 3G phone, buy the G1 and keep the old one if you need it sometime. Otherwise buy a phone that has the 3G you want/need.

[Q] No 3G, only EDGE? (Claro RJ)

So, I´m at Claro (Rio de Janeiro) and I never get a 3G connection, only EDGE.
The specs says Quad-band GSM: 850, 900, 1800, 1900 Tri-band HSPA: 900, 2100, 1700 HSPA type: HSDPA (7.2Mbps) HSUPA (5.76Mbps), and Claro works in 850M and 2100.
So, am I missing some setting here, or is it a radio restriction? If it´s the radio, does anyone knows of a flashable radio I could use?
Thanks in advance!

see that?
no 850 on 3G
most 850 networks does not use 2100 for 3G
Oh, crap. Time to change operator, then.
Thanks, AllGamer!
EDIT: Strange, seems like the Defy have same frequencies, and 3G works with Claro...
EDIT (again): Talked to the carrier, suddenly started working in 3G. Man, I´m getting tired of all this misinformation from my carrier =/
I'm about to ask someone that's currently in the US to get this phone for me, but I'm worried.
I use Vivo, and I live in São Paulo.
Will it work with 3G here?
If not, is there anything I can run on the phone to make it work with the 3G Vivo has?
Edit: Ok, so I found out that my Carrier uses GSM: 850, 900, 1800 and 1900Mhz
3G:850 and 2100Mh.
I don't get all the quad-band, tri-band lingo though, so I'm not sure if it's going to work with 3G here.
Help?

find out what frecuency they use for 3G
and make sure the APN is correct
if your information is correct, then it would most likely not work on 3G

Are you referring to Vivo, though?
Yeah, I've been calling Vivo's Tech Support for the past couple of days, and each time, someone tells me something different. I've come to the conclusion that...Vivo sucks (or that their support is terribly handicapped).

Brother! Follow this How'to below. I'm sure it will help you. My friend here in SP uses Claro and used to have the same issue.

Oh noes... I was thinking about leaving Claro and go to Vivo, but I am not sure anymore.
Last time I try to ask for help, tech support kept asking me "what´s your phone model?" Looks like they don´t even know about the Nexus S.
Well, at least Vivo has a better data plan.
First: sorry about the "revival", but I have almost the same problem.
I'm using an Captivate, radio specs: 3G: HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100
My operator (TIM) uses 2100 in my city, excellent until now!
But, I'm stuck in EDGE, can't get it to connect any faster. We have other phones here got from England, Ireland and USA, all of them support 2100 and 3G works perfectly, but not this Captivate.
Only thing is that my device runs MIUI 2.3.7, but even flashed a new modem (now using UGKG3) but remains the same thing.
Any help? Thanks!!
Edit:
Ok, now it gets VERY weird! I tried another operator chip (VIVO), that also operates at 2100 in my area and: HSDPA enable at first!
Got back my chip and back to EDGE, this same chip get 3G on a Samsung Jet, Samsung Galaxy Mini and a Samsung i550.
How is that?

[Q] Need more info about LTE....

Hi, just looking for make a phone upgrade i live in Venezuela and my phone company, DIGITEL, just begin to use LTE network in 1800Mhz band, GSM 900 3G UMTS/HSDPA, They sell the SAMSUNG S4 I9505 , but i want to buy a NOKIA 1020 or 1520 but there is some information that i wish to clarify first. NOKIA specify the LTE band network as 2, 3,4,5,7,17.... etc and honestly i don't understand this nomenclature. Can somebody help me to understand this and if the LUMIA 1020 or 1520 can work as S4 i9505 in 1800Mhz?
Thx
hi,
nokia uses band classes to spicify his lte support:
BC1, LTE Band 1 or Class 1: Used in Asian countries like Japón, and South Corea del Sur. LTE on 2100MHz
BC2, LTE Band 2: U.S. Cellular carrier, secondary band (carrier CDMA), LTE 1900MHz
BC3: (LTE 1800MHZ) used in Australia and Europe (UK, Finland, Germany,...)
En América Latina, al parecer en Venezuela el operador Digitel va a desplegar su red LTE en BC3.
BC4, or LTE AWS: AWS-1, 1700MHz for upload and 2100MHz for download.
used mainly in Canadá, some carriers in U.S.A., Telcel México, de varios carriers más en América Latina
BC5, LTE Band 5 : (LTE en 850MHz)
BC6, LTE Band 6: Japan LTE en 800MHz)
BC7, LTE Band 7:Europa and Australia (LTE a 2600MHz ó 2.6GHz);
BC10, LTE Band 10 ó Class 10: similar to BC4 1700/2100;
BC12, LTE Band 12 ó Class 12: 700MHz)
BC13, LTE Band 13 ó Class 13: LTE en 700MHz)
BC17, LTE Band 17 ó Class 17: LTE en 700MHz
Other bands are: BC8 (LTE en 900MHz próximamente en Europa, Japón, américa Latina), BC9 (LTE en 1700/1800), BC14 (otra banda LTE en 700MHz para E.U.A. aún no explotada)
Sorry but can't post external links, hope this helps. I was tired of translating hope you undersatand spanish.

[Q] [Radio] Enable LTE APT 700Mhz (Band 28) on D820

Greetings,
I am in Panama (Central America) and we now have 4G LTE APT 700Mhz (Band 28). I have a Nexus 5 D820. Is there a way to activate band 28?
Que va. Vas a tener que vender ese teléfono y conseguirte uno con LTE de Banda 28
Nexus 5 D820 can use LTE in Panama with Band 2 with 1900 Mhz

With Claro Panama I just activated LTE today on band 2 with 1900 Mhz. You can also activate phones on Band 28 with 700 Mhz. Both are fine for LTE service with them.

I tried but couldn't get LTE working on Claro on prepaid. I switched to +Movil, which has excellent 700Mhz coverage, and haven't looked back.
