Hi,
My name is Baron. I own a HTC P4350 PPC. I was wondering if there is any port of the Original WM 6.1 version for the Herald without any customizations. I have been trying different versions of each cook's 6.1 versions but I don't know. I like them but I guess I like things to be original lol. I really like the TouchFLO, its awesome. But if there is anyone who can help me out or even let me know how to aquire 6.1 and teach me how to port it would be nice. Maybe I can be a cook or something. But I guess that would need the help of all of you. I am familiar with flashing Heralds at the moment and of course last year I was flashing Motorolas with Motorola's custom OS not the ones with WM. Anyway thanks for your time and I hope I can be seen as a cook around here or something. Oh, don't forget about the original WM 6.1

There was never an original WM6.1 for the Herald. You'll have to cook your own ROM using a WM6.1 base and port it using a stock 6.0 Herald ROM without any kind of customizations except for a lot of the customizations needed to fix all the bugs that will arise from simply sticking both bases together. The original ROM tends to be slow and buggy, though... What about the original ROM do you like? There might already be a ROM that has those features.
Thanks for your fast response. I knew there was never a actual 6.1 release for the Herald, I was just wondering if anyone ported the original release to work with a Herald. But with what you said about it being buggy, I never thought about that but I guess that would make sense, but I have seen some custom ROMs with 6.1 and flashed them myself to see how it would work and these 6.1 versions were not bad at all, especially with TouchFLO. So I guess my question is, how were they able to cook a 6.1 version? They had to have picked up an original to modify it if I'm correct. As I said I would like to learn how to cook as well so if anyone has time to help me learn at least the basics that would be appreciated. I can learn more myself if I know the basics.

I have a few threads dedicated to teaching how to cook. It's just the basics but it's enough to get you started.
Every 6.1 ROM here has been made by porting a 6.1 from another phone (there is no "original" per say as new versions are released all the time.) using the OEM of an original HERALD 6.0 ROM but modifying it heavily, making a custom XIP (kind of like the kernel and all the stuff related to it) from both the ported ROM and the older ROM, and then adding their own apps and tweaks.
In my case, I also do a heavy amount of stripping of useless files.
I'm kind of on the same page. I'd love to find an unmodified wm6.1. I've tried a couple of them, and they're all great, but they also have a bunch of stuff loaded in them or different versions of apps. I'd like to find a wm6.1 load that JUST has the org wm6.1 apps in it and nothing else. No mods, no alternative apps, skins, etc.

then take an original WM6 and behappy with that...belive me ivansstripped wm6.1 ONLY have tweaks that are really useful...to correct the crappy MS waste....
If you do NOT wantto correct that crap...go with an original WM6...it the same
same here
I am also looking for this...
I am VERY new to cooking and have not been able to manage to Dump any of the 6.1 ROMs. (I must be missing something)
I would like to start with an "original" ROM that I can play with and try to build my own custom ROM

I guess I'm having a hard time understanding what "original" means. If you just want something clean and stripped that you can add whatever you want into it, then any of my ROMs will do.
To ivanmmj
I guess by original I meant base 6.1 ROM but since there is not an official 6.1 base ROM for Herald I was just trying to figure out how the other cooks were able to get 6.1 in their releases so I could cook up my own 6.1 for me and possibly upload it for someone to test or use. But it's ok, you already answered that for me but maybe you can point me in the right direction. I've been hearing that a Kaiser 6.1 ROM is easy to port to the Herald. But let me know how you were able to port it. I read some of your tutorials and I'll definately give it a try as soon as I get the time. Possibly this Sunday or so.

If you're looking for a bug free base, you might be better off just using one of my ROM as a base (since I tend to release the kitchen files for my ROMs.)
I have a post somewhere here about SYS and XIP porting. Find it and follow that. It works fine with kaiser ROMs.
Thanks! I don't know if I have tried your ROMs yet. I'll give it a go.
From what I have been able to gather (not very much) is that some ROM have their RGU files removed, making it imposible to Dump the ROM. When I try to open with the Package Tool nothing happens?

Actually, some ROMs are even encrypted...
In my case, all my ROMs are released WITH the kitchen files in case you want to make your own version. All that I ask is that you mention where the base came from since the base took a long time to make.
I don't know if this is the right place for this post.... and forgive my ignorance again.
I just can't get the Kitchen to work with any 6.1 ROM. I have tried JustMe and I follow exactly the same steps as with the original ROM. I just can't get a poputated OEM or SYS folder. What am I missing?

Download the JustMe mini kitchen.
...Original rom?
There isnt a true original rom. Theres a base, which cannot be loaded on herald unless is ported with original 6.0 (which is ment for herald).
So. basically it looks like this:
Base 6.1 + Original 6.0 = herald 6.1
(original) (port)
you cant just use a base for a rom. you can port it, then extract what u want and dont want though (which theretically will turn yer ported 6.1 into an "original" one)
I managed to port a 6.1 rom following ivanmmj tutorial, quoted below.
" How to port a SYS folder
1. Open your old SYS folder and copy the .VM and WinCENLS_WWE folders into your new SYS folder
2. Go to your old SYS\Shell and copy shell32.exe and shellres.dll into your new SYS\Shell
3. Replace the old SYS folder with the new one. "
but I only did step 1 and did not do step 2. It worked and seems stable.

The Shell32.exe doesn't always have to be ported, but if you port a ROM that comes with a different dpi, you need to use your old shell32.dll (unless you want to manually convert it into the proper DPI...)

I've been trying to get help on another thread but no one is helping. These cabs are mainly ment for WM6, but is there a way to patch these for WM5? Check out the link here:

I agree. It is time to upgrade my friend... There are so many roms out there that are almost 100% stable with everything working and not all of them include all of the extra crap either... If you wanted to keep the same general look going on and not the touchflo if thats what you're trying to avoid, then look into some of the professional roms instead of the touch roms.
A good example is TNT5.0 Professional. It has all the amendaties of WM5 but also supports all of the WM6 software.
...Thats my opinion anyway
I have
I've updated to WM6 many times with multiple roms, but they tend to lag in performance. Though one rom looks promicing is this one here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=331812
BUT! It's a Hermes rom and I have no Idea how to flash that onto a wizard. So instead of risking my Wizard to brick, I was hoping someone could possibly patch those cabs for WM5.
If anyone is looking for a little project, please patch those cabs on the first post.
Thank you
i use TNE with over clocking, with no problems. just as fast as wm5 if not faster.
touch no evil.
and dont flash a wm6 rom that wasnt built for the wizard.

give this rom a try. It was originally made by its right but I personally modified it to have a larger page pool and is quite fast.
It is a touchflo rom though... Not sure how fond you are of those style roms...

Well does anyone just have the base WM6 rom that I can flash? Nothing custom, just the standard, factory WM6 rom? Cuz that would be the only way I would be willing to upgrade. If not then I just want the cabs to work on WM5.

Well there is TNT Official... It's the closest to an actual OFFICIAL Wizard WM6 rom as you are going to get...
Install that(it is CLEAN, nothing on it really) and you can install anything you want if you're not interested in a custom rom.
You could also give this a once over...

Hey, I have a few questions about the wizard. to the chefs here.
I usually cook for herald, but a friend has a g4 qtec 9100, and he wants a rom from me. I started to cook, by port a kaiser rom to wizard, using kaiser sys and oem from a wizard.
Cooked in my packages, built the rom, and coverted to nk.nbf.
I flash with the shell tool. And here comes first question:
Since I have Vista, I presume that this is what cause some problems. When I use the shelltool, I get a "freeze" on the program (It dont answer) But I let it be on for aprox 20 min, when its "frozen"
The rom install fine, but the exrom dont install (In herald this is running fine after flashing the os.n
I tried same with a clean wizard rom, flash it, and no extrom loads??
second, my htc hme dont show up..weird...maybe its the reg settings that need to be changed?
Well, Im sure this is "silly questions" that all you chefs here has knowlege about, and im sure you have answered it many times before
BTW, have a look at my kaiser port to herald
Wing version
P4350 version
When its done and my friend is happy with it, I can post it here if anyone interested
And ill up a vanilla base rom to, with .rgu in it. if anyone wants it .) or just the oem, sys and rom folder
please post link with info and pics

The rom for wizard will be upped when its finished
ive decided to try something new and try out hypercore kitchen but i needa base rom that isnt the stock T-Mobile ROM
can anyone give me a link to the newest version of 6.1?
thanks.
no one?
or is it just really late?
Your best bet is to use JustClean. If you really feel the need to use Hypercore, grab the SYS, OEM, and ROM folders from JustClean. Strip out the OEM packs you don't need and add the packs you want.
If you are feeling ambitious, try merging Hypercore with JustClean. Update the internals of Hypercore first though.
Use Hypercore for extraction and JustClean for builds.

You can search the forum on how to port or you can use bepe kitchen which already has a striped down version of wm6.1.
If you use bepe kitchen, you must have a good working oem folder of your own.
Cooking takes time and most of the time is reading, testing, debuging, and simply learning.
Most of the cooks will tell you that it takes a lot of time.
Thats why I spend at least a month on one rom before even beta testing it.
Anybody can use a kitchen to produce a rom, but will it be your rom?
Ivannmj is one of my best friends on this forum and has creaeted a very good kitchen, but I think his kitchen was intended for people to created their own roms for personal use.
You can use his kitchen to create roms for others, but you will miss out on learning all of the steps in creating your own rom.
Also, I'm not trying to made anybody feel bad or tell people not to use ivannmj kitchen, I'm just trying to tell people that want to become cooks to spend time learning the entire process.
Just my two cents,

Exactly! ^_^ That's why it was originally called EasyBakeOven. You're not really cooking. It's more like a customized version of my ROM.
Can anyone tell me what the latest available build is of WM6.1 for the Kaiser and where to get the files, I am attempting to cook a rom and currently have Alex's v5 3.03 Base Files, are these the latest sys, etc ?
I did have a look around but not sure myself to be honest, so thought I may as well ask.
Obvisouly the latest build may not be the official one from HTC so if someone could let me know what the latest official is and latest unofficial and where to obtain the bits to use in my own cooked rom using the kaiser kitchen. I have already done a custom splash, and found and prepared the radio I am to be using, just need details on the rom before I spend time using outdated files it that's the case.
Much appreciated.
Do you want a ROM or the extracted packages? What are you looking for? I too would like the latest for my ROM cooking. I have a buddie at technet who can get me latest stuff but I dont think I am able to redistribute. Ill see though.
Either, I just want to make sure I cook using the latest build of 6.1 so it's as fast and stable as possible.
Hmm, Technet you say, how, I have a full Technet Account and you don't get Windows Mobile stuff on it.
Is it the paid one? My friend has copys of 6.5 from Microsoft even. It may be different hes been a member there for 10years..lol
Could be, yes it's a paid one, I'm a member of the Microsoft IP Pro Momentum group also, and we don;t't have access yet, lucky git he is. Does that mean there are actually official 6.5 builds up that are for the kaiser, or has he been hacking away at it for cheffing ?
Ill ask him for the rom. Will you be able to just flash an official rom?
Would have thought so, is it supposed to be for the kaiser, or will it need manually di-sectting into sys and xip parts to build a unofficial ROM with ?
I followed the instructions Kaiser ROM Kitchen Tutorial in the wiki.
Cooked a few ROMs, flashed it couple of times. Tried making own packages.
Now while experimenting I tried some more recent ROMs and fetched the most recent (Kaiser_HTC_ASIA_HK_WWE_3.34.721.2) of the HTC Kaiser ROM from the wiki.
While screwing around with it, I couldn't help noticing that if I flash the ROM I cooked it always shows an old version of WM. Now it shows WM6 but I am sure I flashed WM6.1 . Did I do something wrong while cooking? Is this just the version shown or is it really an old version? I do not have a clue.

I would start with cooking by dumping and cooking off this base dude.
I wonder if you are making some simple mistake like flashing the wrong image , have the wrong file in the Base ROM or maybe having a WM6 rom dumped in the kitchen.
To be sure...
Clear out your kitchen so you only have the tools needed. Then put the 3.34 in the Base ROM and dump it. Add an OEM package (a simple non HTC app i.e. S2U2), cook and flash and see what happens
Ta
Dave
k, I'll give it a try.
thanks
edit: Seems like reusing a kitchen isn't such a good idea. I think this just cleared up. Thanks guys.
