as you can see im new here and new to the the rom side of things. I bought a T-Mobile MDA Compavt IV and its really slow. Iv heard that you can do a rom upgrade. Can someone please help me with the following:
1. is there a step by step to how to update rom? or can some1 make me one
2. what rom and where can i down load this and also the radio.
3. can i back my phone up i.e files, applications themes etc i have at the moment.
4. what is a hard spl and do i need it.
if someone has the original rom from htc please can they share it with me. Im sorry for all the questions but im really new to this and thing that the HTC is a great phone but would love it if its faster.

You should really direct this to the HTC Device that you own as each device has it's own process when a flashing a Cooked ROM.
Example: If you have a diamond, go to the Diamond thread and begin reading the stickies and the Wiki.

Hi Guys, I own a Dopod 818Pro (G4). I have this problem now, It seems that my Prophet is running abit slow till I find it laggy. I am using the orginal ROM since day 1 I brought it. From the specification from Dopod webby, it tells me Flash ROM 128MB/SD RAM 64MB. Do I need to unlock the Flash ROM before I upgrade to the ROMs posted here. And also how do I go about it if I wanna flash a ROM to my Prophet. I read up many thread but all they say is about the ROM posted. I really hope someone can guide me into flashing a new ROM for my Prophet. Thanks a million guys.

Read wiki.
Choose the ROM you'd like to use and read the instructions provided in the topic regarding that specific ROM (there's no need to unlock for upgrading most roms).
Don't start a new thread, just because you're too lazy reading the existing ones. Your question has been asked about a 1000 times before. Just use the (advanced) search function..
I would recommend the latest official ROM for the Prophets which were released by Qtek. It's based on WM5 and has the version 2.20. It's stable and fast and already has lots of bugs fixed. I dont recommend a WM6 upgrade for beginners yet. Before upgrading make sure you installed Active Sync and fully charged your device. Then just proceed as the upgrade program instructs you. Always keep in mind that flashing a ROM file not ditributed by your phone provider/company may result in a guarantee loss. Also be aware that flashing sometimes might totally destroy (brick) your phone.

i just 2day bought me htc tytn II aka Kaiser on contract i have had experience in flashing etc i had a spv m5000 and i installed WM6 into it cant remember which ROM etc however this was long time ago and ive forgten a lot lol
i want to install a new os onto my kaiser i dont like the one thats been put onto it and im missing windows live and i dunno it looks wierd
so can someone give me some links on the best rom avaible for the UK orange version of the kaiser
the rom version is : 1.81.61.2 WWE
radio version is : 1.27.12.29

Hi, I have listed the route I used to upgrade my Orange TYTN II, if you follow the steps I show on this link:

you will have a TYTN II No simlock, not bricked and fully working. thanks to the HARD SPL you are able to add any Rom or Radio you desire. the links I have added are using the ROMS i have on my TYTN II. There is also a follow up on my thread where in the event you need to return the phone original roms are available.

damn i just did what you said on the guide and payed £20 as well for the unlocking service installed everything properly new sim was working and everything now installed the kaiser software onto it and it goes simlock? whats this all bout lol
Happens sometimes with some ROMs ;-). Did you keep the mail with the unlock code?
If you got your code from imei-check, you can log in to their website and see it there.

Hi there, ive looked through all the different forums and am confused! (newbie type confused :S). I have an ) O2 Mini Xda S and it is currently running WM5. If anyone can help, please can i request two ROM file downloads.
1. The original ROM file that is currently on the phone incase i flash and do not like and
2. A WM6 ROM upgrade file and if possible WM6 proffesonal.
I would really like WM6 proffesional but WM6 (the origianl one) would be brilliant. It boots up on G4 (2.xx.000x) and this is what im most confused about, wheter the upgrade is for G3 or G4. please someone help!!! Also ive heard the faria upgrade is good but not sure whether to go down that route or not.

1. get the original ROM from your carrier. for instance, you can download the TMO version from their website.
2. read stickies before posting and follow this:

3. pick any of the many WM6 roms here and flash.
4. since you have a G4, make sure you read the part about G4 flashing in the above thread.
thanks for that, i have had a look on O2's site but they do not have any original ROMs or anything at all for my mini xda. I dont know why because its a popular phone as far as i am aware :S

Hello I'm a big fat noob. I was wondering if it was possible to just flash ANY old wm6 rom to my 8125 after I have taken all the steps in the newbies guide up to the point of flashing. The guide told me to pick a rom. Can I use any wm6 rom? I would really like something more touch, like a diamond rom or something with touchflow. I'm using a T-Mobile WM5 ipl/spl 3.08 as used as example in the guide. It'son a Cingular 8125. If I can flash just any rom and have it be compatible with my phone, does anybody know a good rom to use? Please help, as I said, I'm a noob.
You must choose a ROM that was designed for your specific device as the ROM's are device specific - Diamond ROM for Diamond - Vogue ROM for Vogue - Elf Rom for Elf - Etc.... get the picture.
OK, thanks alot, I would hate to brick my phone over a stupid mistake like that! Does anybody know of a good WM6 Touch-flow rom for an HTC wizard? I hate the interface with the stylus and would like something more like the large touch buttons and display styles of the Diamond is why I wanted that one. Like I said I'm a noob and just not sure what I can actually use on my 8125

Hi first time poster.
I am the proud owner of a HTC touch pro 2.
Ive been reading on this site about the different roms eg Manila but goodness im so confused, im not really that tech pro. In my settings screen it says "TouchFlo 3D 2.1.38158.2", after some reading on this site it seems to me thats the manila version. is that right? if so how do i upgrade it so i can use the custom themes and skins.
Also i have windows 6.1 on my device atm. should/can i flash it? If so what is the recommended rom to put on (if thats the right way to put it)

You can upgrade to wm6.5 if you want.
I can recommend Energy ROM´s
Leo= Manila 2.5 (slower for Rhodium)
Phoenix2= Manila 2.1 (better for Rhodium)

I just flashed my fone with hardspl but have yet to install a rom.
should i (do i have to) update my wm6.1 to wm6.5 to use the Energyroms?
i guess another way to put that question is, is it worth installing roms on my 6.1 or is it just simply better and wiser to upgrade to 6.5 and then flash a rom?

Don´t be afraid, if you follow instructions all should be ok
And if you don´t like 6.5 you can always move it back easy!

I cant seem to locat.e an upgrade rom for my fone and ive searched these and other forums like crazy, ive googled everything, been on the HTC website i just cant seem to locate it.
