imaps support?

Is there any way to enable imaps in the mail account settings?
or smtps?
Is there a way to change the port, perhaps in the registry?
IMAP is already suppported bro.
Under the Advanced Server settings there are tick boxes to allow the use of SSL for incoming and outgoing mail. This will use the default SSL ports for Secure IMAP (port 993) and Secure SMTP (port 465).
If you use non-standard ports, then I suspect there would be a registry hack but I don't know what it would be.
excellent - thanks raglits
One addition: for TLS i needed to manually force the port back to 143, instead of 995.
how did you set outbound tls, i need to specify port 587?

A few questions regarding cyanogen 4.0.1

Hi,
I installed cyanogen 4.0.1 on my mytouch 3g yesterday and it has been working very well for me so far. However, I've bumped into a few issues that I want to know if there's a solution for them.
1- I can no longer add my yahoo! free account to the "e-mail" app.
2- I can no longer control my music volume when the screen is turned off.
Thanks!
maybe you should ask this question in the thread about this rom.

I'm running cyanogen 4.0.1 32A.
I think the volume rocker gets disabled when the screen turns off - I can't adjust the call volume when the screen turns off. This did not happen in the stock ROM. I haven't seen anything about it on the main cyanogen thread or the 32A port thread.

Start asking your questions in the right sub-forum (Q&A) (Theme) or even in (General), or i will be forced to ban you for 3 days or till you learn.

yahoo mail, how?? / background from personal jpegs

Yahoo
Hey guys and gals, how do i receive/send or in any way use my yahoo mail account without the need of yahoo mail Plus!?
It's a big problem for me because it's the only email i use and i don't want to have to log in via browser...
is there an app of whatever, just how do i set it up!? please help
Background
How do i setup my background to a personal jpg picture without the need of always cropping the picture (i would adjust the right resolution via my PC)
to have your yahoo account work with any mobile phone, including android phones, you first need to change your yahoo account so that it uses Yahoo! Asia. Follow the steps below:
login to yahoo email
click Options -> Account-> Add or edit an account
click on Account Information from the menu on the left
change Preferred Content to Yahoo Asia
log out and then log in again
the create a new account in the Email application on your phone
fill in your email and password and then click Manual setup
Change POP to IMAP
username should be your yahoo username
IMAP server: imap.mail.google.com
Port: 993
security type: SSL (always)
Click next
SMT server: smtp.mail.yahoo.com
Port: 465
Security type: SSL (always)
That's it. There is only one thing to note here. This works only with mobile networks and not with WiFi. Yahoo has some sort of deal to only access yahoo imap servers through mobile networks
hope this helps
thanks a bunch, i'll give it a try, that would be a lifesaver...and i don't mind not using wifi for mail since wifi is mostly awailable to me only at home and i can access yahoo on my pc so no worries there
any comment about the background?
hm...ssjowowo i have a problem, i'd appreciate a little more help
i followed your steps and i entered this:
Change POP to IMAP
username should be your yahoo username
IMAP server: imap.mail.google.com
Port: 993
security type: SSL (always)
but after clicking next it says: "Setup could not finish - Unable to open connection to server"
I used the pre-installed "Email" app in x10.
I had one more proble which is maybe causing the first one. In the yahoo setup i couldn't find "change Preferred Content to Yahoo Asia", where is that located exactly? What i did instead is changed the regional settings to Yahoo Asia! hoping that that's what you meant. I can give you screen shots if you'd like?
Do you use wifi or 3G/GPRS? Remember it won't work over wifi. Try using some of the other options for security type if nothing else works
sorry Astral07 didn't read you whole message. you have to change your location to Asia for this to work. I can write a more detailed guide when i get off work
No problem man, thank you for helping...a more detailed guide would be great
anyhu, this is what i've got
Your yahoo is now set in Asia. That's corect. Now on your phone follow this guide:
1) On the email app, enter your email add and password. Then click 'Manual setup' below the screen.
2) Click 'POP'
3) For username enter your full email address. ex: [email protected]
4) Next enter your password
5) POP3 server: pop.mail.yahoo.com
6)Port: 995
7) Security type: SSL (Always)
8) Delete email from server: Never
9) SMTP server: smtp.mail.yahoo.com
10) Port: 465
11) Security type: SSL (Always)
12) Put a check on 'Require sign-in'
then if you are asked again just re enter your username and password
done!
thanks but after step 8.) i press next and i get: "Setup could not finish - Username or password incorrect."
i entered it like 5 times, i know my password very well i've also tried ucing just the username without the @yahoo.com but that didn't work either
what the hell is wrong...?
the username should have @yahoo.com
Are u connected on the internet? If you are using 3G try using wlan. It should work
i tried with @yahoo.com, no go
ofc i'm connected i tried 2G, 3G and wlan...no go
i don't think the conn is the prob...why would it say that my password or username was incorrect?
You are better off using IMAP because POP doesnt support folders nor email states from the server. So if you use POP, all your emails will get downloaded and marked as unread. IMAP supports both.
Astral07 try using these settings
Incoming server: imap.mail.yahoo.com
Port: 143
Security Type: None
SMTP server: smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com
Port: 587
Security Type: None
Both these and the previous ones I posted before work for me
i don't know what to tell you...again, i got the same username or password incorrect message
i am 100% sure that those are correct, i also tried my second yahoo account and it said the same thing
Try using the K9 app from the market. It should work no prb from there. What carrier are you using? Maybe they have it blocked or something
hmmm, i'm on Tele2, i'll ask them but i doubt it
i'll try k9 now and report back
i tried ssjowowo's setting for imap and had the same username/password wrong
looks like it doesn't matter which protocol i use, i get us/pass wrong even with k9!
wtf...
i tried both pop3 and imap

I tried setting up imap on my yahoo mail but i get the username/password error. On pop it works fine. Now did you register your imap using wifi or 3g? cos i found this: http://mobiletech.knguyentu.com/2009/11/motorola-droid-setting-up-yahoo-mail.html
Caution: Before Proceeding, ensure that WIFI is turned OFF. This only works via Verizon 3G Signal.

so im assuming that this set up would work via 3g signal only?
i tried 3g, 2g, no wifi, every possible setting and still i get the username/password error
That's so weird. Im on O2 (UK) and both setups work fine. Maybe the problem is down to the carrier not supporting it which is even more weird. It took me ages to set it up the first time on my Hero. Now I just follow these steps. It worked first time on my X10

[Q] Looking for location based smtp switcher

Hi,
I am using phoneweaver and wifi ruler to do many switches based on wifi / location / time etc. Unfortunately it does not do what I would like.
When I am on the road I need my email smtp server set to my mobile provider. When I am at work (wifi) and need the smtp server of my work and when I am at home (wifi) I need to set the smtp server of my home provider.
Is there an app that changes the outgoing email (smtp) server based on a location?
Best regards,
Gert

Gert,
Did you ever find anything that met your requirements?
Have you thought about putting an alias into your hosts file? It would only work if they both used the same authentication but you could switch the ip address of them. You'd need to have your phone rooted and to do the switching manually though. Just a thought.

Cannot get hotmail account on asus transformer

Hey guys!
Apologies if this has already been asked but I tried doing a search and all i could find were threads on rooting and others which just didn't answer the question.
Basically I got my asus transformer today. All fine and dandy until I tried to set up my hotmail. I tried doing the settings --> accounts & sync --> add account --> email --> put in my email address (is a hotmail.co.uk) + password --> asks for POP3, IMAP, Exchange ---> click on exchange --> then i do the following:
Domain/Username : [email protected]
Password: password
Server: m.hotmail.com
The box marked 'Use secure connections' is ticked
The box marked 'Accept all SSL certificates' is not ticked
I click next and doesn't work...
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Just resolved it lol!
For those who are also having difficulties this is what you do (i was just messing about with the device)
settings --> accounts & sync --> add account --> email --> put in my email address (is a hotmail.co.uk) + password --> CLICK MANUAL --> click EXCHANGE then do:
domain/username : your email
password: your password
server: m.hotmail.com
click on the box saying 'use secure connection (SSL)'
leave the box marked 'accept all SSL certificates' unticked
click next and there you go
i have a similar problem. I receive the e-mails with my hotmail account, but i can't send any e-mails.
any suggestions?
Not sure but this may help.
Your outgoing port setting might be wrong,
Incoming Settings
Protocol: POP
Username: [email protected]
Password: myhotmailpassword
POP server: pop3.live.com
Security type: SSL
Server port: 995
Outgoing Server Settings
Login Required: check
Username: [email protected]
Password: myhotmailpassword
SMTP server: smtp.live.com
Security type: TLS
Server port: 25
Try changing it to one of these or 465 or 587
