Hi all!
I have an xdaiis & its running o2 1.40. I often listen to music whilst out however haven't found a way of listening to media player but not allowing the unit to function by an accidental tap of the screen or a button, and pressing power stops media player too. Is there a way of stopping this?
Thanks
Check out slide2unlock. You can set it so that it locks the device and turns off the screen a few seconds after running. I know someone who runs one of the earliest versions on a wm2003 device for exactly this reason, or if you are running wm5/6 (I have no idea what o2 1.40 means), then the later versions of s2u2 will work fine.

You could use one of the many software tools available to lock your PDA until you unlock it via a specific combination of keypresses - I had one on my own XDA until I hard reset it - can't remember what it's called right now, but the icon is just a yellow padlock.
listening to music with your device off
Leo,
I accidently found the solution to your problem !!
Start the media player and then press the centre button of the navigation pad to black out the screen. The media player will continue playing songs without the device coming alive by accidental pressing of button or tapping on the screen. To bring it back, press the centre button of the navigation tab again.
Try and see if it works for you.

XDAIIs
The Action button (centre D-Pad) on my 2i switches between play and pause in my install of Windows Media Player 10, just for the record.
Turn display off
go to wmp settings or options and navigate to buttons.. assign a button for display toggle.. Tat solves u
Thanks for your help guys!
Unfortunately the screen toggle only works with the screen & my buttons are still activated which my krussel case always presses against.
Anyone know of a way of stopping the buttons too? It's crazy that it has been designed this way!
Thank you
Leo

Try DeltaLock. It's very small and simple, and does just what you're looking for.
ramjet73
Thanks!
Problem is solved! Thank you ramjet73, Carty, christopherwoods & phantom1261 for your help! Now i can easily listen to music without being charged because GPRS connects!
Thanks again!

Is there a way that the media player stays active after the keypad is locked? I' m using the Treo 750 with a bluetooth headset (a2dp works fine). As soon as I lock the keypad the player stops. Could not find any option to change this.
I would also like to know if there's a solution.
Try Scrnsaver.exe [taken from PHM PowerToys] it powers down the screen and locks the keys [D-pad center opens them up again], in other words it keeps the device ON while turning the Display and Keys Off [read: battery saving]. I use it when listening to music via A2DP.
VJDeviceLock
I found a fine solution in the meantime. VJDeviceLock does the trick and works great with the Treo:

I've installed the latest PocketMusic Player software (v5.0.6) on my XDA Orbit with Windows Mobile 6.0 (http://www.pocketmind.com/).
The programme was installed successfully but doesn't work as expected.
The problems I have are:
1) Red 'END CALLl' button doesn't work when the PocketMusic is on. (but it worked fine on my previous XDA Mini S with Windows Mobile 5.0)
2) The "OK/CLOSE" button doesn't work when the Pocket Music is on. (It worked fine on my previous XDA Mini S with Windows Mobile 5)
3) Navigation button ('scroll wheel and mouse' in XDA Orbit) work on PocketMusic only to switch tracks and
turn up/down the volume. In my previous XDA Mini S with Windows Mobile 5.0 I could use navigation button to
look for tracks in the playlist (scroll up and down). This function doesn't work in Windows Mobile 6.0
I can only switch tracks in the playlist by using the touch screen.
4) When the PocketMusic is on and when I go back to the desktop (by minimazing the PocketMusic using touch screen) the
navigation button still doesn't work.
It still works for PocketMusic, so I can change tracks and turn
up/down the volume but I cannot do anything else using navigation buttons unless PocketMusic is off.
(again I want to point that I didn't have such problems with XDA Mini S & Windows Mobile 5.0)
5) PocketMusic stops playing music when it finishes the current track (instead of jumping to another track from the playlist). This usually happens a few days after installation of the program. It that case, the only way to fix it is to re-install PocketMusic...
I've tried installing different versions of PocketMusic player: v4.0.3 ; v4.3.4 ; v5.0 ; v5.0.4 but none
of them worked fine.
Only version v4.3.4 works better than other versions in a way that:
- red 'END CALL' button works when the PocketMusic is on.
- OK/CLOSE button works when the PocketMusic is on .
But yesterday it got worse (see point 5).
5) PocketMusic stops playing music when it finishes the current track (instead of jumping to another track from the playlist). This usually happens a few days after installation of the program. It that case, the only way to fix it is to re-install PocketMusic...
Is Windows Mobile 6.0 'somehow' not compatibile with this PocketMusic?
Why it works perfect with Windows Mobile 5.0 and doesn't with WM 6.0?
Do you have similar problems with Pocket Music on your mobile?
Does anyone know how to solve the problems described above?
I would really appreciate your help
Cheers,
i've the problem n5, with last release 5.2 and other old version...
Does anyone recognize these problems I have with PocketMusic 5.2 on a HTC Kaiser (TyTN II) running WM 6.0:
(1) After succesfully playing the first track (mp3) in a playlist, the second song breaks up terribly. A few milliseconds of the song is played, it then pauses for a second, then another few milliseconds are played and so on.
(2) Using the Next / Previous button while playing causes PocketMusic to freeze up completely when having my Kaiser connected to a bluetooth device (car stereo). A soft reset of my Kaiser is needed to terminate PocketMusic. I've already tried changing all the options in the player but it didn't help. Even removing all the key mappings didn't help. BTW:
- Doubleclicking a different track in the playlist while playing doesn't result in errors and changes to that track without any problems.
- The Next / Previous buttons work flawlessly when NOT connected to a bluetooth device or when NOT playing.
(3) Hardware keys (up/down/left/right/action) don't work at all. Furthermore the key mappings screen doesn't seem to detect pressing any of these hardware buttons.
Surely there are more fans of PocketMusic 5.2? Don't you have any problems?
----- [edit] -----
I just tried out the demo of the paid version (5.3.1). That one didn't have the breaking up problem and the track changing problem. The hardware key problem however wasn't solved.
----- [second edit] -----
I've found the solution to the hardware key problem: CHECK IT OUT!
Hello! Xda-viewers,
I had a question about Coreplayer,
maybe usefull for other music players as well.
When I want to listen to music and put my HD2 in my pocket,
I can't put off the screen because the music will stop.
I enabled the screen off in 5minutes, so when I put my phone,
in my pocket with screen on, after 5 minutes it puts off the screen,
and by this also the music.
Is there any app or mod to let the music play even with screen off.
For example, the Media player standard on the HD2, keeps on playing,
even with the screen turned off.
With my HTC P3600 I also used Coreplayer and could use the blank screen
futur in Coreplayer to put off the screen with sound still on. But this function,
doesn't work that well with the HD2.
thanks and greetings,
SOLUTION: Post 7-8
Timo
Hi,
the same problem with nitrogen.
same here, with coreplayer
Well...
My investigations...
So I found this with Coreplayer: If I press the power button to turn off the screen it will do as you said Coreplayer just stops, I think this is power saving mode.
However I have the screen off delay on default (I never changed the setting) which is about 1min and found that if I left the device to turn the screen off itself Coreplayer would just carry on. So rather than pressing the power button I leave it to turn itself off which means my music keeps playing.
Now from your first post I see that your having the issue when it turns itself off as well so could this be something to do with changing the delay, maybe trying the default 1min for power off and 30secs for backlight dim might help. Maybe someone else with the default settings could confirm this. Or maybe I'm just one lucky man
Cheers,
Prime
when coreplayer is on and playing music etc just press the windows key and then tap on 'lock'. you can leave the phone like this or press power button for blank screen. coreplayer or any other media player will continue to play.
hope this helps
will try
I'll try these solutions, if one works I'll post back,
if not, maybe there is somebody that can rip something from
the windows media player app, this one works just fine with
the screen turned of in any way
thanks!
Timo
Try this. I hope this will resolve Your problem.
Solutions
I tried the folowing:
-Normal way, press On/Off button to lock and put off screen while Coreplayer is playing
Music stops playing
-Settings: Light 10sec time-out, device 1min time-out. While Coreplayer is playing, I let the device time-out by itself. It also locks itself.
Music keeps on playing, works!!
-With Coreplayer on, goto start-menu, press LOCK (down-left in the screen). After this, the device time-out, it also locks itself.
Music keeps on playing, works!!
-Used the CAB 'BlackMe'. Installed, when runned it turns off the screen, also auto locks.
Music keeps on playing, works!!
So many solutions, THANKS!!
Hi!
I am not sure why you are spending so much effort. Just use the "blank screen" feature of the coreplayer!
In version 1.2.5 (build 4506) you will find it under "Menu -> Options -> Blank Screen". This switches off the screen and disables the keys.
Bye,
Basti
Coreplayer Blank screen
As I said in the top of the conversation,
I used the 'Blank screen' option from Coreplayer,
menu -> option -> Blank screen,
when I had my P3600 it worked fine, with my HD2
when I active this the screen go's blank, good,
but after a second the screen goes back on, in lock mode, not good
Timo
I got the same problem too.
Does this cab file mean that you can now use the power button and it carries on playing, or does it mean you have to muck about with things still before turning the power 'off'?
I'll probably try it anyway and thanks for providing it but this is a real pain for me after having Coreplayer working just right on the Touch HD.
Thanks!
CAB solution
The CAB will not change the fact that the sound goes off with the power on/off button. So yes, you have to start up coreplayer, put on you're music and then run the program installed by the CAB.
Timo
Thanks for clarifying.
Hmmm, I appreciate the trouble someone's gone to to provide this cab and am grateful for the effort but if I'm not mistaken, I'd guess it's less messing about just to let the screen time out by itself?
Sorry if that sounds ungrateful or critical - it's not meant to!

I slighty disagree, when I want to put on some music fast, I startup coreplayer, start the music, press homescreen button and press the black_screen in my quick menu. So it's a personal thing, wait.... or quick black screen . Also when you want you're time-out on say 10min or longer, the black_screen app is also a handy tool to quickly put off the screen with music on.
And it didn't sound critical, it's a forum, so no hard feelings
No worries mate. It was a guess really or assumption since I've not actually tried the cab.
Good points and well made.
xda shutdown works to. Change sleep setting to "lights out".
I got the Tilt 2 yesterday and while I really enjoy it for the most part, there's one thing that's really getting on my nerves. I can't turn off the screen manually without stopping audio playback (whether WMP or Pandora or TCPMP). The Q&A on HTC's website illustrates it well--
Q. When I am listening to music via the built in Windows Media Player on my device and I press the Power button to put my device in hibernate mode, the playback stops. How can I continue to listen to my music without having my screen on?
A. If you manually press the Power Button once to put the device in hibernate mode, Windows Media Player music playback will stop. This is by design to allow you to quickly stop the playback. To continue listening to your music without leaving the screen on, let the device go into hibernate on its own; the music will continue to play.

I really hate this because I want to be able to turn off the screen whenever I want, and I can stop playback quickly enough by pushing the pause button. What's more, the screen does not automatically go into hibernate mode in Pandora anyway. It may not in TCPMP either, I don't know yet. Is there any way to go back to the WinMo 6.0/.1 way?
I already posted this on Brighthand, but the WinMo forums there are relatively dead, so I thought I'd post here.
I'd really appreciate any help; I don't want to waste massive amounts of battery power in Pandora.
Thanks,
Andrew
install the xdaShutdown app... there's an option there to turn the screen off.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=544016
It seems to have the same effect: stopping the audio when I hit "sleep."
Try changing the sleep to lights out it's under right key options some themes have this on screen anyway..
Also not sure if any of these ways will help:
Music not playing when turn off screen: For people who use normal device lock vjdevicelock.cab install to device will be a shortcut in system tools / For people who use S2U2 Toggle Screen.cab install to device will be shortcut in System Tools will sleep screen then S2U2 locks "Both of these tweaks will need to be reaplyied if you turn device back on via power button"
Taken from my Kaiser ROM thread.
Use Nitrogen Player and click on the Power Icon to turn off screen.
Or if you prefer to use another browser, just add it to the Exclusive Programs List under Settings > Task Manager > Exclusive.
I have long power mapped to turning off the display. Basically, I have a shortcut in \windows that points to a morscript that toggles the display. The link is called long_power.lnk. This is the script:
ToggleDisplay("Off")
Oh, I should have looked more carefully at xdaShutdown. The lights out option is the perfect solution! I mapped the program to the PPT button so I can do it more easily. Thanks everyone! I'm also going to look at Nitrogen anyway, that sounds interesting.
Playback While Screen Off.cab
I have this cab, im not sure who made it but it works on my sprint tp2 great. I simply install the cab. and after that whenever i play music in any app... WMP to Slacker Radio... press the power button and music doesn't stop.
