(Introduction of Windows Mobile application for Geocaching)
http://forums.groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=214152
Below is the copy from the forum.
-------------------------------------------
Dear all Geocachers!!
My name is Tom and let me introduce Windows Mobile application for Geocaching.
Last October, I bought my iPhone and searched lots of application from Apple Store.
One of most interesting application is "Groundspeak's Geocaching iPhone Application".
Of course, I bought it and started to play Geocaching immediately. It is a lot of fun!!
At the same time, I searched Windows Mobile application for Geocaching like iPhone app.
But I could not find it. then I decided to develop a Windows Mobile application.
Past 2 months, I was working on it and Japanese Geocachers and friends was helping me to test it.
So, I think now is the good timing to introduce the Windows Mobile application to world wide Geocachers.
The application name is "GCz" and you can download it from below.
GCz is Freeware!!!
[Download from here]
http://www.nicque.com/PQz
[Requirement]
- Windows Mobile 5/6 Professional Device
- Mobile Google Map (free download from Google)
- Internet Connection
(Rcommend flat rate access services to the Internet. 3G/GPRS like.)
I attach some screenshots of GCz. please take a look.
If you have any question, suggestion, bug report, anything.
Please reply here. I would love to have your comment.
best regards,
tom

Okay Tom, this officially rocks!
I've installed it and had a poke around. I'm impressed with the search integrated with your login so it tracks which ones you've completed (most of my local ones!).
I also like the way that you got the gallery images linked to the caches.
[bug report]
Device: Sony Ericsson Xperia X1
ROM: Generic UK R2A
Entering a UK postcode gives you the choice of 3-4 to choose the specific location area. Once the search has completed, you have the opportunity to open Google Maps. If Google Maps is installed onto the Storage Card instead of internal memory, the program fails with the message:
File not found. [\Program Files\GoogleMaps\GoogleMaps.exe]
[suggestion]
Have a button that links to "My Profile" for things like Watchlists, Travel Bugs and My Friends.
Please keep up the good work on development. I'm glad someone has finally come up with a dedicated application for GC on WM.

Hi ZenithUK
Thank you for your feedback.
I will check UK postal code.
>> File not found. [\Program Files\GoogleMaps\GoogleMaps.exe]
Please check Menu>Option>Google Map
You will see the path of Google Map and select correct application path.
regards,
tom
*** I checked Google Geocoding ***
[UK] [Greater Manchester M13 0AS] <= (I lived here 2005-2006)
<<Google UK>>

[Wrong result]

-As - Brasília, Brasília - DF, BRA
-As, 5753 Deurne, The Netherlands
-Ås, 5417 Stord, Norway
[Correct result] YES!!!
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps/geo?hl=us&output=xml&oe=utf8&q=M13 0AS
- Manchester, Greater Manchester M13 0, UK
-----------------------
<<Google USA>>
-----------------------
[Wrong result]
http://maps.google.com/maps/geo?hl=us&output=xml&oe=utf8&q=M130AS
- As - Brasília, Brasília - DF, BRA
- As, 5753 Deurne, The Netherlands
- Ås, 5417 Stord, Norway
[Wrong result]
http://maps.google.com/maps/geo?hl=us&output=xml&oe=utf8&q=M13 0AS
- M13, South Africa
- M13, Zambia
- M13, 77500 Selandar, Melaka, Malaysia
[Correct result] OH!!! M13 0AS,UK works!!!
http://maps.google.com/maps/geo?hl=us&output=xml&oe=utf8&q=M13 0AS, UK
- Manchester, Greater Manchester M13 0, UK
-----------------------
So, I suppose to add "UK" into the "Goecoding Locale" option of GCz.
(Now only "English"/"Japanese")
But I am not sure that is normal behaivior to add ' ' (Space) into postal code in UK.
e.g) M130AS -> M13 0AS
Do you have any idea?
thank you.
tom

Sweet app! Great Job....this should be posted in the dev section i think.

Hi hipocrazy
Thank you very much!! ;D
By the way, could you tell me how to move this to dev section? if you know.

Thanks for the updates gech.
Yes it is common practice with UK postcodes to insert a space between the digits.
e.g.
Single digits... A1 2AA
Double digits... A12 3AA
Double letters... AA12 3AA
The last section of the postcode is always a single digit and two letters.
I didn't make myself clear about postcodes (my apologies!).
I entered my full postcode and it came back with 3 options of similar locations.
Entered AA11 1AA (not my real code)
The program returned AA11 1, AA11 2 and AA11 3
Given that a postcode typically covers 20-30 addresses, this isn't such a problem.
Like I said before, keep up the good work.

It didn´t work on my Uni
Maybe I´m not understanding well on how to use it
Thanks anyway

You can use the Microsoft Voice Command program
HTH
Stefan
You can find it @ a.b.warez.pocketpc
or pay 40U$.
Sorry, I'm a newbie with newsgroups.... Could u help me setup the newsgroup for a.b.warez.pocketpc? Any help would be greatly appreciated..... thanks....
I've got the same problem. I would love to check that newsgroup as well but I do not find a newsserver containing that group.
Could somebody please post the address of a newsserver that is able to check that group?
Thanks a lot...
how to enter news groups
get the address of the new group server of your isp
use a newreader program like outlook express or something else
scann for usegroups sellect the newgroup you want and enter it
news groups is not really http based
well are not as a rule anyway
I am living in a students home with LAN-connection to the net. So there is no dial-up ISP. The newsserver of my university does not accept the above mentioned group.
Is there a kind of workaround to read this group?
News groups
For all you newbees; Let me address this message first;
:!: It's illegal to download software from newsgroups! :!:
But I can't stop you from doing so...
the best way to read newsgroups is to take 5 steps;
1; Get a program that reads alt.binaries posts; like grabit and install the progam.
2; Get a newsserver account or check your ISP. (mostly they also have access to newsgroups but are limited.)
like;
I use www.usenet.com
www.easynews.com
www.usenetserver.com
www.giganews.com
www.supernews.com
www.astraweb.com
www.usenetmonster.com
www.100proofnews.com
(get a account that gives you unlimited download. Should cost you about 15 U$ a month.)
3; then find a post message site like (www.nfonews.com)where groups tell other people what they are posting and where you can find the files. (like the Voice Command from M$)
Alot of Dutchies are using FTD. (This is a program)
But there are numerious sites that will give you this info.
4; Once you have the info where you can find your ‘points of interest’, start your grabber software and subscribe your news account info.
Then find the location. E.g; alt.binaries.warez.pocketpc
Grabber finds the location and you can start downloading your ‘points of interest’.
Most files are wrapped as *.rar files. So you need to have a rar program to unpack the files. There are also *.par files. you also need those files if the program is brokendown in hunderds of *.rar files. *.par files are a sort of repair files. Let say you mis a couple of *.rar files of LOTR dvd. (yes you can find everything) Mostly the uploader will place also *.par files to repair the lost *rar files. So you still have the full program you are downloading.
5; The last thing you have to do is buy a bigger hard disk. B/c you are constantly downloading new things.. 120gb is not big.

Hope this helps you a little bit more on your quest for golden software treasures..

GPS just check out

Hi guys...
can somebody check out this link: http://www.foxytag.com/en/presentation.html
cheers pinta
interesting - if only it could work on wm5 smartphones ...
I don't get it. In the UK, radars have to have their positions publically published (try saying that drunk!). Hence apps like Modaco's CamerAware
http://www.modaco.com/START-HERE-About-CamerAware-t246087.html
However, the foxtag app must work on a database of positions, and/or a web interface. That could almost certainly be reverse engineered, but since it's a university, they will probably opensource or support new phones if requested.

Any pcAnywhere 11.5 / 12 Pocket PC users in here?! Please help!

Hi guys and gals,
I’m working on a FULL roundup of ALL Pocket PC – to – PC remote solutions.
Does ANY of you know where I can get the Pocket PC-specific CAB file of Symantec pcAnywhere (it’s just the Pocket PC client, NOT the pcAnywhere server itself)? It’s everything I need – as I already have the (beta) server (available at ftp://ftp.symantec.com/misc/sabu/pca12beta/SymantecpcAnywhere.exe ). Unfortunately, while the documentation refers to a “Mobile” (Pocket PC) client, I couldn’t find it anywhere. I couldn’t find any track of it on the Symantec Website. The Mobile update available at ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/products/pcanywhere/12.0/updates/pca1201_mobile.zip can’t be run by itself either – it’s just an update requiring a previous install.
I also contacted Symantec yesterday. The online chat was useless (the CS guy just repeated “you need to buy the full version” – oh yes, I am eager to shell out $200 for a product I just want to give a test ride for a roundup and won’t ever use otherwise) and I’m not at all sure they have received my mail I tried to send yesterday (had to send it via their online mailer app and I think it hasn’t sent out my mail – when I clicked the “Go” button, it switched to another page far too quick).
BTW, I’ve also posted a very early draft version of the comparison / feature chart of my forthcoming article to http://www.winmobiletech.com/PPC2PCRemoteRoundupTable.htm . It’a a Word export, not a native HTML chart and, therefore, its size is a bit big (200k). The chart, of course, doesn’t contain pcAnywhere; I’ll also insert it as soon as I’m able to thoroughly test the PPC version.
Of course, anyone who helps will get the proper credits and thanks in the article
Further discussion: http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showthread.php?p=1244263
BTW, the CS guy at the chat wasn't even able to say whether the full version has an "install mobile client to Pocket PC" option, let alone whether there's a separate product called 'pcAnywhere Mobile'... it seems they don't have the slightest clue about what they should support.
In the meantime, thanks to akheron from AximSite, I’ve found the (beta version, but working) app.
BTW, feel free to check out and comment the comparison chart (the backbone of the forthcoming article). I’ll only be able to publish the final version of the article next week, it seems – I’m still awaiting answer from some of the software developers for some of my questions.
It’s at http://www.winmobiletech.com/PPC2PCRemoteRoundupTable.htm . Note that the chart is not finished yet; there’re still some table cells to fill in (for example, the HTTP gateway tests). The bandwidth usage etc. tests have already been conducted, on the other hand, and most “Verdict” cells are also filled in.
Opinions are welcome
For logmein.com, under Login you list "- (have to reenter the l/p every time you log in to both your online Web account and the remote desktop)"
Logmein.com let's you create a favorite that passes the login/pass. It saves a ton of time!
It's under Settings after you log in. Click on Settings next to the PC you want to add. Click on Create a Desktop Shortcut. Follow the directions and tap and hold the icon and choose Add to Favorites.
Mine's currently set up to ask for an access code anyways. Still easier than entering an e-mail address and password!

CommMgrPro. Looking for GSM-GPS mappers

HI.
CommMgrPro is and one year old Hermes project. CommMgrPro is:
1) Automatic profile tool based on Location (GSM cell) and schedules.
2) Battery and Current draw monitory tool.
3) Communication manager.
4) -> It allow to upload cell changes to the server and if you have GPS It can take the coordenates so you can track your movements on the server using Google Maps. Apart of this we are creating automatically a big database matching CELL - OPERATOR - GPS coords.
So.....We are giving for free licenses to people interested on the project with PDA GPS enabled and interested on increasing the database. Simply install the program, use it to upload cells and if you ve uploaded cells you will get a free license. More info in www.commmgrpro.com
