I downgraded to RC29, but decided I really don't root.... - G1 Android Development

How do I go back to the official firmware? I downgraded to RC29, but decided I really don't want to possibly mess my phone up. It wont find an OTA update and I want to get it back to the latest official firmware. I took the DREAIMG-RC29 to degrade; can someone tell me how to get it back to normal?

if you did just the downgrade to RC29 using the DREAIMG.NBH file and you did not change your keys, you will automatically get an OTA udpate, just be patient. BUT why would you want to? Do your self a favor and install the JesusFreak 1.41 RC33 firmware or the ADP1.1

hi. well im new in this thing of "jailbreaking" the phone and i would like to know, if i downgrade how do i install the jesusFreak 1.41 RC33 Firmware thnx. and sorry this is my 1st time in a forum

Im getting a replacement couple questions about sending mine back.

1. I Reflashed to Dreamimg.nbh which is RC29 If I wait will I get the new update pushed to my phone, if not where can I get it.
2. By wiping and flashing the .nbh does that take care of everything, making all stock, T-Mobile wont see anything they are not supposed to, are they?
Thanks I just wanna make sure I do the exchange right, and they dont nail me on anything.
1. Basically wait for the OTA update to come from there. If not, there are some websites that have the download link to the regular update (Phandroid had it up for a while, it might still be there if you look)
2. Nope, after you update using the standard RC33 update, they shouldn't be able to see anything other than a regular G1.
Yeah just install the rc29 thing and you should be good to go. (The last one I sent back I did that and didn't even bother waiting for the ota)
I've also sent back one or two with JF builds still on them, and I've never gotten any hassles about it.
You can find OTA updates at http://android-dls.com/wiki/index.php?title=OTA_Updates

It you changed the boot screen will the DREAIMG.nbh file (and applying it of course) make the boot screen stock again too?

No. the NBH only affects splash1, but not splash2. You can find the original splash screens in my post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=473248

Sorry but i really need to bump this as im at my wits end with this! I cannot get my phone to find the new update at all. Im still on 1.24.161.1
Carriers do not roll out updates to all of their devices all at once. They trickle them out so you will probably get it at a later time.

That's your problem right there - the OTA is to go from 1.27.161.1 to 1.35.161.2. As you're not on 1.27.161.1 you're not getting prompted. You're gonna have to bite the bullet and flash the 1.27.161.1 RUU before you can get the new OTA update - which also means losing all data in the process
You can get the RUU from here:
http://insertcoin.dataninja.net/WIP...00P_10.11.9007.15_M_release_191974_signed.exe
Another way to trybis to restart your phone and check for updates again.
This works for me though.

So im never going to get promted for this update? Is there no way of just downloading the update from a website? Sorry but im proper nooby at all this, first android! What does flashing mean and what data would i loose? Thanks for your reply
Basically an OTA update needs a pre-requisite version to update from. In this case the OTA (Over The Air) update is to upgrade the Vodafone 1.27.161.1 ROM to the new 1.35.161.2 ROM. Your device is on the Vodafone 1.24.161.1 ROM, which was the first, and as such you need to update your device to 1.27.161.2 before you will be prompted to get the new one.
There isn't an OTA file to go from 1.24.161.1 to 1.27.161.1 so the only way is to download the entire ROM file, or RUU (ROM Upgrade Utility) that I posted. The downside to using this method is that the phone is completely reset so any data you've got on the phone (contacts, game save data, etc) will be lost. To use the RUU, which is a Windows program, make sure you have HTC Sync installed on your PC and connect your phone to the computer. Select 'HTC Sync' from the menu that comes up on your phone and then run the RUU file and follow the prompts
It's the only way of getting the update, though, so you will have to do it. The good thing is that once you set the phone back up it will redownload the apps you have on your phone but it will need to be set up again from scratch

Thanks for this mate. Ill have to do this on sunday when i have more time. So basiaclly if i dident do this i would never recieve any future updates? This seems abit **** tbh, might ring voda first and see if they will do anything about it. Doubtful though.
Thanks again
They won't do anything, I'm guessing u got one of the first handsets when released. Tbh other than losing some data it'll mean u get up to date which is better in the long run imo

[Q] Applying VZW system update on rooted, unlocked SG3

I have a rooted, unlocked SG3 running stock ROM and as of a couple weeks ago, continue to get prompted to install the OTA update (VRAGL7 I believe). Unsurprisingly the install fails when I try to apply it.
My question is, do I have to restore in order to apply this update? And if so, is it possible to instead defer the update indefinitely (since I dont want to restore and there doesnt appear to be anything useful in this update according to their site).
Im also sure someone else must have asked this before, but after browsing the last few pages and searching, I couldnt find anything. Feel free to direct me to a previous response if I missed it.
Thanks in advance!
This has been covered numerous times, but, here you go. If you want to take the update, lock your bootloader, Odin back to stock, take the OTA update, reroot, unlock, etc.
If you don't want to do that, freeze SDM 1.0 with Titanium and the message will stop. One thing though, you will not be able to update OTA until you restore SDM. Which, you shouldn't be updating a rooted phone to begin with unless you want a world of problems.
Good luck!

So to be clear, absolutely no way to apply the update without going back to stock first, correct?
Sorry for posting up whats probably been asked 100 times, but really couldnt track it down with a search and browse of the last few pages.
Thanks again.

I did not have to do all that...
I used Mobile Odin Pro to Pre-Inject Root into the OTA Update before flashing it, then I flashed the latest modem immediately after flashing the OTA update.
I didn't lose Root or Unlocked Bootloader status..
Best part of it was... I didn't need my PC to do any of it...
The following thread is the one you should read in detail..

Perfect. Exactly what I was looking for.
Thanks again.

Make sure that you read it and pay attention very carefully. I tried to do the same exact thing and had problems. Had to Odin back to stock. I think my problem was that I was running a custom kernel. Anyway I got the unauthorized software message and could only get into stock recovery and download mode.
Guess I will read the thread myself and see where I screwed up at.

Yes, just Odin the stock ML1 and after that you should able to OTA upgrade to 4.4kitkat.
Yeah I just did this earlier today. Used Odin to get back to stock 4.3, and then installed the OTA, and it worked fine.

Verizon OTA

I'm rooted with s-off and on 5.0.1. Verizon is attempting to download an OTA and I was wondering if I should take it? Will it brick my phone? If I don't take it how do I disable it from downloading when I reconnect to wifi? If I can take it, is there anything I need to do specifically? Any help would be great. Thanks
I took it and have been stuck on red verizon screen since...
how long have you been stuck?
Took the update about 2 hours ago. I made it off by flashing TWRP then running sneaky's RUU. Optimizing apps as we speak, I'll let you know if it's good after this.
edit: but yeah, would not advise taking the OTA. There's another thread in the general forum with a bunch of guys on other carriers who had the same issue. When I took it, I was rooted, s-off but stock rom and recovery.
thats the same boat im in. stock 5.0.1. would flashing a rom take care of the OTA from downloading? Ive dont have a problem with flashing a rom, just never really gotten around to doing it
If you flash a custom rom you will not be able to take the OTA
Alright, Im really not worried about having the OTA, Just don't want to brick my phone by taking the OTA. Would be nice if i could disable it somehow
