Is there a way to split these up or at least have it default to SMS?
I don't want to tell it what kind of message I want to send each time...
You need to get a rom using either 3.5 or 4.2 of Arcsoft.
Is it possible to just pop arcsoft into my current install? I really like this ROM.
LOL, we have attempted and it does not work. Sorry.

I will just have to deal with it. I like this ROM too much
I've been out of touch. I had the orig wm6 on my phone and the radio completely stopped working so I flashed before sending it back to T-Mo. All is working now... and network auto-config... I feel like a guy who got out of prison and is overwhelmed with new technology.
First off, yes I did a search, both on XDA and via Google, and I turned up plenty of mentions, but no actual links.
The official AIM app for Android was released a while back, and it worked great (for me anyway); well, lo and behold my N1 was stolen on Sunday (bastards... WaveSecure's gonna put'em in jail tho), and I just got my replacement today. After rooting and flashing CM 5.0.6 and trying to restore everything to the way it was pre-theft, wouldn't you know it, the app no longer seems to be on the market. Anybody got the APK? Got it installed and can link up a copy from an Astro backup? It'd be greatly appreciated.
Edit: Yes I know there are other apps that provid AIM functionality. Yes I know about the issues many have had with the official app. Yes I'm still pissed that my N1 was stolen. Yes I'm gonna be selling an N1 for a low price once I get the stolen one back (and I'm praying I do). Thx for your concern and your help.
Can't help you with the actual AIM app, btu I can suggest eBuddy as an alternative.
I got the apk but I'm put right now. too bad I don't know how files.

^it's no rush, my dude. If you get around to uploading it when you get home or whenever you have time (assuming you meant you're "out" and I'm not misunderstanding), I'd greatly appreciate it.
When I can't find an app in the Market I can usually get the app wit Market Enabler and switching back and forth with T-Mobile and AT&T. It will usually work for at least one reboot if I fake a provider, reboot, fake the same provider again after the boot, open Market. T-Mobile is 310260. At&t is 310410.
BTW and off topic, does anyone know a place to find a list of ALL the different gsm.sim.operator.numeric values for all the world's Android Markets? That would be a big help.
Anyway, here's the official AIM app. Enjoy.
Hmmm, I just typed AIM and it was the first app in the Market to download.
As for selling the stolen phone, doesn't the IMIE or whatever its called get blacked listed/banned?
That's interesting... it's now showing up for me as well. It looked like a newer version than the one I installed though, it prompted me to "update" to 1.5.5.1 I believe it was; Astro shows the version I downloaded yesterday as being v1.5.5.1 however. Wierd.
I kid you not though, it wasn't showing up yesterday. I even went to the AIM mobile site and tried to get it via the QR code on the page, market found nothing. Odd.
Edit: Also, about the other phone... that's a good question. I guess we'll see if/when the other N1 is returned to me. *shrug*
Well I'm writing this because of the complaints of lagginess and/or crap from AT&T.
While I'm not a dev genius, I do know my way around iPhone OS and WM and Android is coming pretty naturally to me. IF YOU JUST READ THREE THREADS YOU CAN HAVE A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT PHONE. There. I said it.
Seriously, if you are complaining about it being laggy, its because the ATT crapware likes to turn on for no reason in the background. REMOVE it!
Install Titanium Backup, allow it to update and then go to manage and uninstall ONLY ATT APPS. don't get rid of google apps or **** goes crazy
If you're complaining about not being able to install LauncherPro or easytheter, learn how to sideload! Seriously, you can use adb and droid explorer if you'd like (really simple) or you can edit ONE LINE in your database and get it directly on your phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=728121
If you're wondering how to do all this, just ROOT. It takes 30 seconds, it's longer to reboot the phone than to root it. Just get the update, it does absolutely nothing to your phone, just installs superuser.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=725555
I'm just getting pissed because this is supposed to be a poweruser site and lots people here are just bickering about things when they could simply fix them.
I know my account doesn't have many posts, but I've been around (Didn't feel like keeping TyTNic_Dev was fitting considering I haven't had the TyTN for about 4 years now) And while I'll try and contribute what I can, IMO this subforum would be alot cleaner if everyone stopped complaining and kept everything relevent.
Talking about how you "hate the phone, its so laggy need to go back to iPhone" or just "don't understand what all the fuss about Android is" just GTFO, or leach off everyones contributions. It really drags the thread down when people have all that hate and negativity. Especially when a few tweaks and the phone runs like a dream.
I've rooted, enabled sideload, and removed bloatware, as soon as I get all the kinks in my flash plugin, I'll have a phone that is as powerful (or even better) than anything else currently on the market. I suggest you do the same, then you'll probably be singing its praises as well.
ok..phew..
/rant
so yeah, root and fix the phone. you'll be glad you did
Good post. Just to help people maybe throw some links where u say to do each mod.

I dont think this is true. I've never once seen it just start itself up.
But yes, rooting is easy, but there's not a whole bunch of reason to do it quite yet.
Edit- there's also not much reason to NOT do it either.
I agree with you 100%. Like yoursef, im not one to have tons of replies, but ive been following XDA since my Tilt (not tilt 2). I think the issue is that we have a lot of new followers (welcome!) coming over from the Iphone and they are not use to what this board is all about. These arent apps you just install, this is software development/enhancements all in one place. Hopefully when the WIKI is back up (or created rather), there can be a nice "how to" section for everyone to reference.

I just restarted my phone, and there was a huge list of apps that were running right off of startup. A lot were at&t (naviagtor, ect.) and some were not.
EDIT- I know a lot of people are talking abut the lag due to the samsung UI, but I really dont care about the live wallpapers and I have a regular background so I dont get any lag at all. I am excited about the 2.2 update to gain the speed and access to the other 256mb or RAM. That alone will make this device a great phone. I am really enjoying android verses my WiMo devices (tilt 2 was the latest).

If that's true then this is a good reason to do so but I haven't seen that happen I guess.
After I instaled task manager I noticed most att apps would start on there own. I was always looking at what was running to try and save my batt.
Ive never hit the att apps at all since I had phone. After rooting and removing att crap nothing tuns in background execpt what I open.

happens to me all the time. random AT&T crap will start on its own
Thanks guys, yeah whenever you start ANY navigator app, att navi will start (its triggered by the gps starting) when you start any music player att music starts (it is triggered by com.google.music(sic))
these little things can be avoided and lets be honest, the stock touchwiz music player is really good. I have copilot so no reason to pay att. Navigation is a top notch free gps too.
the only one I could see is maybe you like mobitv, that is actually pretty decent of an app, but things like allsport, where, ypmobile, all of these can be accomplished using the browser.
I'll edit the post to include the links, but I just feel like when I'd be working on code or something, if someone was whining it wouldn't motivate me.. Why would I wanna program the Captivate (apart form sheer love) for people who'd just complain you know?
I'm messing around with the sdk and what not and I just got me a second Captivate so i'll be doing all sorts of tests to see what it'll take to get stock froyo on it, but i'm still a novice so i'll keep updating everyone and hopefully we can get 2.2 as a community
@V DidDy 210 I like your attitude. I hope more devs like you come around to the captivate scene as I would and the community as well would greatly appreciate it. I know I will. I will try my best to contribute and help with any interesting development on this device.
I have rooted and removed the AT&T and many of the Samsung apps, but that didn't really change anything. If it were just those then owners of the International versions of the Galaxy S wouldn't be having the same issues. I think the problem is much more than AT&T bloatware.

Being a running process and actually consuming resources are two different things and I'm not seeing anything worth making a big deal about since they are just sitting in memory.

What is your problem? Is it laggy? I haven't noticed any lag on mine, I've removed the bloat (all of it) rooted (obviously) added sideloading, installed flash 10 and check all the dbs for any scripts that might still be activating unnecessary scripts.
I haven't found any, and unless I actively run something (widgets or apps) nothing is running on its own. Only the most rudimentary of services run in the background (unless I tell something to) and my phone is 99% lag free. It is laggy at startup while it is parsing through my media files and it is laggy when I have a bunch of apps open (I'm talking around 16-17) otherwise in day to day operation (browsing, phone calls, music listening, watching movies while on the treadmill, etc.) I have no problems.
I'll try and help you, just need more info on whats going on

This is true, but while they are running there they still consume even the smallest amounts of usable memory...unless you like the ATT apps there isn't any real reason to keep them. Even if it uses 1kb of ram...its still 1kb of ram wasted
Excellent post but more importantly.... it seems to be a very necessary post. I loved the site when I had my Hermes, Kaiser, Touch, and other HTC devices ~2006 - 2008 but now that I came back with my Android device, it definitely seems like the tone has changed.
My question its are we all having the same problem? I experience lag, unresponsive touch due to lag also a black screen that hangs when you open a app. If so, I'm rooting right now. Please some one confirm. BTW this its a universal problem with all Samsung galaxy s phone. So I'm inclined to think its the firmware not the att bloatware.

LOL. I thought you were serious for a moment.
On a spare Showcase that I've got, kind of a test mule instead of bricking my daily use phone, I flashed CM7.1. It flashed fine, everything seemed to work just fine w/ the google roms. However, after playing w/ it and letting the battery die, now the damn thing won't save ANY passwords. Like for instance, on an ebay app, fb app, twitter app... the app opens at the log in page, I attempt to log in, and it gives me and error message. When I attempt to go to the android market, I get an error message. When I pull up the browser, home page is set to google, the home page pulls up fine. However, if I try to go to another website, I get an error message, but I can go right to google w/o issues. Since this phone isn't on Cspires network, all of this is done over wifi, but I'm showing a decent wifi signal. Any ideas?? I really like CM7.1, it's so much faster than 2.3.5, but if all else fails, I'm gonna have to odin back to 2.3.5, which I don't wanna do.
The CM 7.1 is quite problematic on the Showcase... Right now I don't have mobile data thanks to CM7
yeah, I'm not impressed at all. I definitely like the features that CM offers, but I guess w/ this phone being a regional phone, it kinda hinders development. I can't wait to switch to ATT.
At&t really. They are way overpriced. Just promise not to get an iphone

Hello,
I was trying to get a working version of Skype on my motoactv and I failed.
I tried to install some Beta version for android, v1.XX, v2.XX and I did log in and send messages but that was all. I've managed to call somebody and heard the ring tone but when my friend answered Skype disconnected us...
The newest version on Market didn't allow me to sign in, it shows 'Signing in...' forever. I cleared the data, moved to 'phone' but nothing helped.
Is there any working version or maybe different Skype client around?
I'd appreciate any help.
Thanks in advance.

Skype cut off all access to the Skype Lite beta app, which was the only one working for the MotoACTV, on December of last year. Despite the latest official Skype app looking and appearing to work fine on the MotoACTV, I have not been able to get it to work at all on my own MotoACTV, nor have I found anyone else getting it working yet.
For now, MotoACTV is cut off from skype, as far as I can tell.

GRRRR M$ ... this just pisses me off and validates my boycott of M$ since they bailed on WindowsMobile 6.5.
WHY??? is this carrier collusion antitrust type stuff?? (under the guise of user experience?)
Was thinking of ditching my phone and just going with a motoactv with a clear wimax puck + skype. I sooo hate microsoft.
Any known ways around this? Fring, Tango, google voice??? Would be the ultimate if skype worked and there was a front facing camera on motoactv.
Sorry for the rant. Just feel so dirty; I was actually considering a win8 tablet... but cannot support this kind of behaviour.

if I recall correctly, and forgive if I'm wrong, this below may not be an accurate statement of facts, no time to research right now, but this is my personal subjective memory/opinion of skype:
Skype/M$ have always been little *****es helping out the carriers.
Remember when they wouldn't support winmo
Then they only gave support for txt chatting;
then they wouldn't support the built in earpiece (only speakerphone);
Then they wouldn't support bluetooth headsets;
then they wouldn't support android;
then, when they did support android, they only did txt chats
then they teamed up with Verizon to offer a version that used verizon minutes not data
then they made that version no longer work
then they released a skype lite app which worked fine on motoactv
and now they've updated their system to not allow motoactv.
Even on the blessed version of skype - you cannot use bluetooth???
Because it obviates an old business model and is a threat?
**** m$
And now they've teamed up with NSA/prism to do an end run around the Constitution.
No one wants them to develop special... just don't break **** intentionally.
Lead, follow, or get out the damn way.
Any ideas on other apps that a standard android phone can use for voip?
Any ideas on apps they it can use via voip to get to real telephone numbers?
UGGGhhh just such a ***** dealing with these dirty bastards who keep propping up the anticompetitiveness of the carriers and dashing hopes of disruptive technology.

That's part of the reason I own a Samsung phone on Verizon.
Verizon says, "Dear Samsung, you must stop customers from rooting/customizing their phones as they see fit, despite paying more for our service than most other carriers in the U.S."
Samsung says, "EFF YOU, Verizon. Dear users/devs, here is the source code..."
Motorola, on the other hand, always capitulates. Spineless little wimps.

That's why I went to Sprint. EFF Verizon.
I agree completely on Samsung.
HTC capitulated with that whole locked bootloader lies and crap... I LOVED them... but then when Samsung sent the S2s to Steve and Teamwin to get CM7 working on it. I knew Samsung was F'ing awesome!
As soon as Samsung comes out with a smartwatch... with a camera... and I can get it for less than $160... I'm IN!!!
