I have been transferring etc to sd card ok after mounting it on the G1 screen. For some reason now after updating the radio it gives me a BSOD! Not sure whether pulling out the 8gb sd card and installing the 1GB update card may have stuffed it or not but it says to run chkdsk on it......
The reason i am transferring onto it is i have a folder called media and in it i have a folder notifications which has the icq "UHOH" on it- but for some reason it keeps disappearing from my card. Any ideas of why?
thanks
i have stuffed the sd card- mustn't have dismounted it properly or something- the whole mount/unmount etc when plugging in the G1 is confusing- to mount is easy but how do you dismount it from the PC when you have finished using it?
ok. can someone tell me how to dismount the g1 from the pc properly so as not to damage the card again- it is fixed now with chkdsk.
the instructions say to "You can also go to Home > Settings > SD card & phone
storage, and clear the Use for USB storage check box." but of course that is not there..... I see there is an unmount/eject sd card but i thought that was for unmounting card from the G1 itself so i could take the card out without turning G1 off.
Did a search and couldn't find anything on this.
How do i unmount it when G1 is connected via USB to pc?
****edit***** can a mod please move this thread to the plain old "dream" section?
i got you
Look for safely remove hardware it should be in the notification area(it looks like a usb plug with a check on it) Right click that and click Safely remove hardware now just find your device and remove it
have fun
Edit: or just right click on Removable Disk(whichever the G1 is find out) in MY Computer and press Safely remove hardware or Eject not sure if its the same as
Safely remove hardware
but any ways have fun again
thx mate- so i don't have to do anything from the G1?

well now maybe your card is corrupt. Its happen to me before with an external hard drive(just pulling it out without safely removing hardware.)Corruption!!
try this use a different mem card(one in the house or new) to get to the root of the problem (most likely you need a different mem card)

Dear all,
I notice the following problems with "Bluetooth Settings screen". When I click on the bluetooth icon on the extreme right hand corner it would take from 5 to 20 seconds for the setting screen to come up. This will only happen if I have an SD card (Apacer 256MB) inserted in the SD slot. I have SanDisk SD Wifi card, even with this inserted it would take between 5 to 10 second to bring up the bluetooth setting screen. This happens for both the initial firmware as well as the latest firmware from official XDA II site. FYI, without any SD device inserted the bluetooth setting can be activated instantaneously. This problem can be replicated time and again so it is not something that is caused by any program installed (tested all that even after cold reset). Does anyone know of a solution to the problem? Thanks.
Regards,
Kueh.
Its likely that something on the card is slowing your XDA down..
What apps are installed onto the card ? if you have an app thats constantly being run from the card it will slow the system down, maybe not as much as you say but it does have a noticable effect with large apps.
My Bluetooth options pretty much come up instantly unless i have a few programs running, in which case it sometimes takes a couple of seconds or more..
Maybe your SD card is faulty. If so, your XDA might be constantly trying to read something from the card and keep hitting an error which isnt made known to the user. What id try is to backup the SD card, reformat it and then see if it happens again.
Hi,
I have no application running from the SD card. All of them are datafiles, mostly pictures, wmv and microsoft reader files. BTW, how do I format the SD card?. Thanks.
Regards,
Kueh.
I dont think theres an option to do it within the XDA2.
You'd need a card reader or someone who owns one which can reformat the card. If you dont want to by one or know anyone with one, go to your local PC shop, they might do it for you.
I'm having exactly the same problem.... accept for it only happens when turning on the XDAII - if I do remove the SD card then the problem does go away!!!
Is anyone else having this same problem with the BT Settings ??
You can format your SD card with a ppc application called XDA-storagetools (do a google search)
I suspect it takes longer for the BT radio to start when you have a card inserted may be because the BT software is looking for a BT device in th SD slot??
I have the same problem too...If i want to reformat my SD card through card reader, do i just simply format it in the like of formatting, for example, drive c: ? I mean, just 'right click' on the SD card and choose 'format' ? Or do i need to use a specific software ? Thanx...
You cannot format a SD card from a card reader - windaz don't do it.
You need special software, try a google search for xda storage tools
Ok...thanx a lot. By the way, how do we know that a slower BT settings is affected by SD card ? Just my curiosity :}
I don't believe formating the sd card will make any difference.... just having the sd card inserted into the XDAII is enough to cause the problem.
Could it have something to do with when the XDAII is turned on, it has to read/regonsie the sd card first... and the BT settings has to wait for this to happen??
So I get on the train, go into my MP3 player, and none of the tunes there. I check file explorer and the whole 1 gig SD card is blank.
It's a kingmax platinum 1gig sd
What could have happened?
Are you using an XDA1 with a 2003 ROM? I used to get this on mine, it's a bug apparently. Someone suggested a way to fix it, but it didn't work for me, I just kept it write-protected!
I am using an XDA IIi
DID U USE IT INANOTHER PDA DEVICE
if u used the SD card in another PDA device it may cause problems. or if u resart ur PPC a couple of times then it might format itself as well.
I haven't used it in anything else, or even taken it out. I reset the machine occassionally when it hangs...
Thanks for the replies, I'm still not sure what happened, but it hasn't happened since, so fingers crossed

Hi. I have a SanDisk 1Gb SD card. Something very similar happened to me. Several times.
I felt quite sick the first time this happened but here are some things I have discovered.
1. It's a good idea to copy your entire SD card - lock, stock and barrel - to your hard-drive, or some other storage medium. (Er...except an SD).
2. Your card may not have formatted itself - try this: remove the card, (I blow on the metal contacts for luck,) replace it, access |Start|Settings|Today|Items, then alter the Today Timeout value on the Items page. Exit to the Today screen. Check your card using a file browser (File Explorer is OK for this).
Sometime this is enough to force your PDA to read the card.
3. Sync with your PC using ActiveSync (assuming you have this facility). Find a lightweight installation file that may be lying around undeleted on your pc and attempt to install it to the storage card. You may get arsey messages from ActiveSync or from your ppc saying it can't be done. You may not. You may even have to soft-reset your ppc BUT you may find that your Storage Card contents have *miraculously* reappeared!
WEIRD!?! But it has been said that truth is stranger than fiction.
4. It may be that after all this tinkering about the contents of your Storage Cards still reads as nada. Consider doing a proper format of the card and copying back the contents of your Storage Card that you, with great foresight, copied to your hard drive on your PC.
Or consider blowing out your card manufacturer and asking for a replacement.
Regards, The Gog.
PS Please don't ask me why this often works. Obviously it is magic, quasi-magic or SD is short for 'Satanic Devilry' and your data is possessed.
noob here. wondering why all of a sudden the sd card is gone from the drop down bar. it isnt able to be seen through the storage program built into wm6 faria crossbow. installed the cab wmstorage, and it helped. i can see the card on windows xp but it is still not on the pda. its a wizard with wm6. nothing pretty much installed at all. did a hard start to go fresh and it didnt help. please help me!!! im sure this has been addressed before, but im not familiar with the site yet and im in a rush to get this card back. its got work files on it that i need in the morning! i promise to be a good noob and research everything else from now on... thanks!
Will try to help you out. . .
First Drop down of what? are you able to see your SD card in Settings under Memory?
can you access your card in the XP PC? open and execute files?
Overclocked?
Hi, that happened to me when I overclocked my Wizard to 221MHz i think, dont remember now, but the SD card data became corrupted, with WinXP I could see the directories but the data was unreadable, I just formated the SD card in WinXP and everything was fine again, just lost all the data..
cya,
the drop down or "start" menu. i cannot see the card anywhere on the pda. i installed wm5torage, and was able to see the card on my laptop as another drive. and i was ale to get the files and open files ect... but i got real happy until i went back to the pda, and still not there. so the card is ok, and i was able to get the data, but whys it not showing up... ??? its a g3(?) and running wm6. hope this is enough info to get started. thanks!
this just happen to my mda also.. i had to call tmobile and get a new one.. the port went bad.. it would only work if i pushed the memory card down far as possible but once i took pressure off it would disappear
Before going through all the tech support and purchasing new cards....try this...as this has happened to me many and i mean, many of times...
apparently you may have for your email attachments to be stored on storage card, then you may have done a soft reset, and quite possibly an email attachment was downloaded before storage card was initialized... so it is possible that a folder named storage card could have been created and your actual storage card may not show or be shown as storage card 2
What I did was take the card out, and delete the sotrage card folder and then reinsert the card and it shows up propperly, hoping this is what happend to you, this may do the fix.
If not, im not sure of what to do...but just a little help from my side.
killa, i tried looking through all the folders, but i believe there are some i cannot find??? i tried to do the search, but it says that search only goes through the my documents folder. do you know where you found the folder? thanks for the help.

Not too sure what happen to your device...but the Storage Card folder usually shows up in the root of the device just as the actual storage card does, as a matter of fact, the actual storage card would typically show up under the folder named storage card, and your actual storage card would show up as storage card 2.....hope i dont confuse you with that, but it seems that your problem may be an even more deeper problem than this, hope its not, but hopefully we can help you get this resolved.
the wm5torage program let me backup the files. the pda is still not recognizing it but i believe its a software issue obviously if the pda doesnt see it but my laptop does. i have the option of formatting the drive. i havent tried it yet, but im not sure if that will help anyway. i dont see how formatting will help the pda see it, but its another option right?
Why dont you try first on inserting other mini SD card first if your PDA recognize it then you might need to format the card. . . if it doesnt then its a phone problem? did you unlock your extended rom? it is also a reason why storage card is not available. .
Just one thought....It may be possible that your card is formatted in NTFS, then your card will only be readable in desktop but not in PPC
i was able to format it through the laptop as fat32. but it still isnt seen on the pda. i am on a business trip with a laptop and all my other peripherals are at home and i am two days away from being there. so no, i havent tried the other card/put the present one in the card reader ect... all that stuffs at home. i just dont see how all of a sudden, out of the blue, its no longer visible. i even hard started the pda and formatted the sd... it has to be a software issue. noones had this prob with faria crossbow? btw, thanks for all the tips, i try them as i read them!
Man, make it simple
You say that the Desktop PC sees your card, right ? Well , copy all you have on the MiniSD to the computer
Insert the MiniSD in the Wizard, and format it with any software that is able to do that(ex. RescoExplorer)
Then it should work, right ?
If you cannot see it at all from resco or similar, then reformat it into the PC and see that it is FAT not NTFS ... I don't remember which one Fat 16/32 but I guess that 32
Good luck

ya, the card is seen but only when i use wm5torage and activate it. but it still isnt seen on the pda. when i did that, i formatted the card through the laptop as fat32. still not seeing but im finding info on alot of the forums here. i even tried the reg value change suggestions and that didnt work. im starting to think it maybe a bad card? but then why would i be able to see it on the laptop through the mobile usb connection??? grrr...
Then Hard reset Time if all solution you have seen have failed. . . you can backup your contacts using active sync or any third party software will do. .
Hi,
just to advise:
i bought a microSDHC 8gb kingmax Class10,that i swapped with the supplied
one but after only 10 hours of my desire's use, i had a message "sd card appears as read only etc" so it's corrupted(not yet having time to format it on my laptop)
So i put my Sandisk 8gb class4 back, so far 24hours still functionnal
so perhaps a defective one
This has happened to me using my G2. I have gone through 3 SD cards and lost some very important data. It has gone as far as completely killing 2 of them and not being read by computers or data recovery machines designed to get the data back...

and yes I always dismount the card from the phone after unplugging the USB cable
Hi, perhaps you could tell us what brands/size were involved(editing your post) if you dont mind
@gtrab : i a newbie for android, is that important to unmount the card after unplugging the usb(shouldnt it be rather before ;-) ?

LOL yes I meant "before"
and yes, it is important to unmount any USB thumb drive or USB card reader before removing it from a Windows PC
I am not sure if this is related or not, but I found Windows trying to use the card to "accelerate windows performance" or something like that (its an option that pops up when any USB gets connected, I never enable it, but I found a windows-related file there and I just deleted it)

Hello, I had Transformer about a year now. I have installed CyanogenMod 10 (JB 4.1) but the problem i have as my microSD card that I just bought will not get recognised in Transformer. I have "Samsung 32gb Class 10". It works fine if I put it thought the adaptor to the docking station and get recognised straight away. I tryed to format it to FAT32 and then insert it in the microSD slot but still same, it just does not wont to know it. I Kingston 16gb Class 2 and its absolutely the same problem. Can it be that the microSD slot it knacked since I've bought it? Please help someone.
P.S Mount SD card comes up in the Settings > Storage but after i press it in couple of minutes table says "Unfortunately, Setting has stopped"

I think that you must be right. Your sd card slot must have problem.
But before any coclusion you have to see some things. What rom do you have? Did you try it with a different clean install (after making a nandroid backup for not loosing everything)?
I have kingston 16gb class 4 and I have no problem. (FAT32)
Finally I couldn't be surprised if sd card slot is mulfumctioning from beginning cause mine has problem with internal mic from beginning.
i am on CyanogenMod 10

#1 Ensure that the contacts for the SD card are clean.
#2 Give the slot a quick blow out with some compressed air or such. NO VACUUM CLEANERS.
#3 After doing the above steps, put in the card, then power down. wait about 3 minutes, and power it back up into normal boot. These should get the device to see it and accept it. Other wise you may have gone and goofed up the locking mechanism inside that is not allowing the contacts to seat correctly. This can be resolved by a tear down and rebuild with a good service tech.

Right, Scratch all that about disassembling it. I restored to Stock ROM.
I go to Settings > Storage and there is:
SD CARD
Mount external storage device
I press on it and its saying "Preparing external device..." but Setting freezes, after i try to copy anything on the microSD card it says "Insufficient storage". So i dont know what to do.

Plug it into the computer and see what files are there. May just need to clear out some things. BUT I am beginning to be more inclined to say that there is an issue within the card itself. If the tab can see it it should be able to mount it. If it is saying that there is not enough space, either format it via the computer and re try or take it back and tell them that it is a bad card.

NTFS won't work. I'm sure you are aware of that. Format it from your phone, THEN put it back in the tablet. If it is still the case, then you have ruled out the card being the issue, and are back to that it could be dust / dirt / debris in the port, OR that you have a faulty port.
I revert to the stock Asus ICS ROM from there website. Reformated microSD card to FAT32 with Long formating. Wiped all data from Tablet. Insertet a card and it might show straight away or not show at all or after pressing Mount External Storage, Setting will freeze and message with Wait or Close will pop up. If the microSD mounted and the SD card sigh apper in the bottom of the screen near clock i can get in to the card and creat folders, but if i try to copy something in it, it says Insuffician Storage. So i dont think it something with the card or a port, because it can detect the card accasionly and get in to it. So is there any way to do something with the main software part, not the android it self with something that android installed to or there is nothing that android get installed to? Thank you
