HTC GPS Tool question - Touch Pro, Fuze General

So when I'm in the satellite tab i see the sattelites but than it says "Mode 2: Fix not available". I have been struggling with getting my GPS to work and maybe there is a thing I could make the fix available?

bump......

Hiya,
Try this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=427888
Everyone has problems with GPS and I wish that HTC would fix this. However i used the Elite RC3 ROM last week and they seemed to fix it on mine so it might be worth trying custom Roms.

I tried that but it still doesn't get a fix. Also when I put a new rom on my phone and use SPB backup to restore my contacts and programs, will the programs work? It would be too much installing for me after I flash the new rom.

What i do is this. I have an 8GB expasion card in mine so i install all the programs/games i need to that. i also use PIM backup to backup all my contacts.
All i do is run PIM backup to backup messages, contacts etc and copy all my shortcuts from the programs menu. When you hard reset or flash all you will need to do is restore the PIM backup, restore you shortcuts and you're sorted.
However if some programs require serials, you will need to enter them back in again as this is saved in the registry on the device it self. Any personal settings for those programs should be saved too providing it saves them to the storage card.

Restore Programs after ROM Upgrade

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone is familiar with a tool for backup of the installed programs before update and restore them on the new ROM? I tried with Sprite Backup, but than I had to hard reset because the device hang after Splash screen. Such a tool would save a lot of time. Greetings!
No No No No No No
The reason you should NOT restore after a flash is that any backup program (Sprite, SPB included) must by its nature backup things like registry and datbase files.
If you restore then you will overwrite the information that the very clever cookers have spent all of their time fixing to make the ROM stable.
Equally backing up PIM data (contacts, calendar, tasks etc) using this type of program and then restoring can cause problems. If you can - sync with PC first and resync after the update. Then you are guarenteed compatibiliy.
If you must backup on the PPC then use programs like SMSBackup and ContactsBackup. These export and import the data rather than taking a copy.
I know it is a pain and takes a long while but I strongly recommend reinstalling after an update.
If anybody knows of a tool that can automate the installation of a number of CABs please please let me know.

I had this problem with mine. The only way I was able to get mine back was to re-flash the phone back to the ROM I was using when I backed up my contacts originally, restore from the SPB backup file, then back up the contacts again using a different backup software, one that works with WM6. I used PIM Backup.
just let activesync backup your contacts (the phone ones, SIM contacts aren't touched by flashing anyway), and once you set up your partnership, with the same name as before, it will ask you regarding the conflicting files between your computer and phone... just choose to replace phone's files with those found on the computer.
Works for me every time, no matter what I'm upgrading from and to.
I agree, I just use spb backup for my programs, but leave the pim backup to either the PC or exchange
rgds
I think I will reflash to original rom, backup, and then reflash again.
spb backup
have ou considerd unzipping the backup on your desktop with the app that spb provides andgetting your files that way

Backup everything before new room?

Hi!
Im looking for a software that will backup everything before I install a new room. I would like to save the settings etc.
cheers!
Ok there are a lot of options depending on the amount of time you want to spend either before or after upgrading (or both), this one SASHIMI http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=538513 will do everything (well it sure looks like it anyway!) but seems very complicated to setup.
There is also SPB Backup & Sprite backup which I believe do a good job.
I haven't used any of these, I nearly used SASHIMI, but wasn't prepared to spend the time setting it up.
For me I use PIMBackup (search) which does a fairly good job for the time you put into it, I then backup other programs manually, for me that means Voice dialing, single file reg settings (make as I edited them to start with), plus then anything else I can think of.
You get out of the process what you put in, I decided I didn't want to spend ages preparing and would sort out reconfiguring my device manually after.
Backing up from one ROM and restoring onto another has the potential to cause you problems.
Some backup software (like Sprite) has different restore levels available depending on whether you're restoring to the same ROM, a different ROM or a different device, but I've never had much success with any of them.
The general recommendation appears to be a clean install from scratch, and use backups only for restoring to the same ROM in the event of an emergency.
SPB Backup
I had the same problem. I wanted to try another rom, but before I wanted to backup all personal settings and programs. Therefore I've dumped my ROM completely with Radio and then made a complete backup with SPB Backup.
After that I was able to flash other Roms and restore my own whenever I want.
Is there any such software thats is easy to use to backup the ROM before trying another. Got a T-Mobile Compact V but don't know where to get the stock ROM as a backup so I can flash some of the new ROM's avaliable.
For me pim backup does the job great. Quickly and easily saves contacts, messages, emails, appointments etc.

To backup your ROM (not the Radio unfortunately), you can use DumpMyPhone.
Then with the tool RebuildROM you can create a flashable version of your original ROM.
This is only to backup your ROM. It's not for your applications and not for the Radio or the SPL.

SPB Backup

hello,
I asked in some other treaths also but no 1 could give me a ''good'' answer, I have a question about SPB Backup.
If you have made a backup from a cooked ROM for example Artemis 12.0 and you go to Artemis 14.0 can you use the backup from 12.0 also for 14.0?
or isnt that posible?
Already many thx

It is possible with spb backup to apply any backup to any new ROM, it has a feature called "ROM upgrade mode"..........
BUT..I wouldn't advise to apply a previous system backup to a new ROM, sometimes it will be ok but, with many ROMs containing Many updated packages and applications it mostly causes more problems than it is worth!
However! SPB also has a custom restore feature which will allow you to restore PIM data or emails or documents or System data and a combination of any of these.
I am just looking at the program now and it seems that you can customise the back-up of whatever files you want to include, In fact ive never noticed how much you can choose before now! you are able to basically tick or un tick any file or folder within the rom, and include the registry or not, but you can only back up and restore the entire registry not parts of it which is a shame.
My advice is to try it out, the program has a very good full program trial period of about 6 backup and restore operations without a time limit so you have plenty of time to try all its functions.
I hope this is helpful to you
realy much thx for your answer
I dotn have the trail but got also the key so i can use it as many as I want
I just will make a backup then before I go run it will tell later if it worked

I've been using SPB backup for a long time and learned that it's not a good idea to do a full restore. If you're upgrading from an old to new rom as you mentioned I recommend to do a "Customize" restore and restore everything EXCEPT for PIM data, Emails and System Data. If you restore PIM Data and Emails you'll end up with duplicate contacts and email once you sync with Windows Live. And if you restore System Data you may end up importing registry bugs that were fixed in the new rom. For importing PIM Data only I'd stick with PIM Backup as I use that soley for importing my calendar entries.

No, what will happen is that SPB backup will ask you if you want to go into force ROM upgrade mode, and it will try to downgrade the ROM to the same as your backup, which will cause errors and force you to have to do Task 29. Trust me I learned this the hard way.

Best HD2 Backup App?

What is the best app for backing up contacts, text messages, contacts, and, if possible, system settings? I've heard of PIMBackup but I didn't know if it would back up all the stuff on the HD2.
EDIT: I want an app that backs up to the storage card, NOT an online service.
EDIT2: Freeware
Thanks!
Microsoft MyPhone works pretty well for that

I mean an app that backs up the data to a folder on the storage card.
Sprite backup is very good
I've been using it for a long time to backup to SD card. Can set schedules and create auto install backups so that you do not even need it on the phone if you want to recover the backup.
Indeed SpriteBackup is best backup app. Restored backups having all this what you select to backup. If you perform full backup and restore it after new ROM instalation, then you have exactly the same settings, files and other stuff like b4 ROM instalation.
Resco Back up
Been using this for ages.
Very robust and flexible. It has saved my butt countless times.
I have detailed the use and "how to" for a previous post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5993369#post5993369
Have a look. It is a $$ item but you can always go for the trial first.

I'm quite sure that it won't be so. If you launch either SpriteBackup or Resco Backup getting a file and then you flash a new ROM, nobody makes sure that the system will work as well as expected. Newer ROM might have different settings or different driver versions and it will be necessary not to overwrite them in case the system gets stuck.
So, if you need to back up, make sure to save and restore all the items which don't affect either system settings or drivers.
I know retyping all the settings gets your goat, but there isn't another way out of it....... It's better off not to make mistakes and reinstall one application or patch at a time.
Cheers
Holly words. I forgot to tell about this. Performing full backup with tool like SpriteBackup is ok, but like you say, if new ROM was added, then when restoring should be selected only data like contacts, calendar, appointments etc., otherwise (when it's just refreshing system with HR, on the same ROM) performing full restore is best choice.
hi
what about spb backup is that any good?
thanks

thanks for reply will check it out.
The same options have SpriteBackup.
I am sure they all are good. I use Sprite Backup. Have backed up and restored many times. Also just upgraded my ROM and then did a restore where the phone was the same as before the ROM update.....except for the new ROM, of course.
Also, Sprite has an HTC deal for 19.95...

I use Sprite and it works fine. I already owned it so
just ported it over from the old phone. Just remember to check your settings before you do a restore and back-up. They seem to change. It also forgets it is registered and I have to re-enter the user name and pass code after a hard reset to restore. The process complete message also is hard to check the box ok. They just need to make the target bigger.
thing to note, before playing with roms, download the latest stock rom update for phone, because you will have to flash it, then use your backup.. you need the rom you used to backup with so you do not mix roms, been there and had that problem, lucky I had my rom on sd card, so what ever your backup tool you need the rom it backed up. also the only thing they can backup is what is on phone, it does not backup the rom install
have used Resco for at least 3 years now, on 2 different phones and across 4/5 rom versions, very good product, I have even restored files on my HD2 that where backed up on my kaiser.
also restores across rom versions on my HD2 no problem (backed up under 1.66 restored under 1.72)
SPB Backup....
I tried Sprite for several months, tried restoring backups, there was always some problem or other, the most common being that after a restore the phone would randomly not switch on, requiribg a soft reset.
I've now tried SPB, and so far, it seems perfect. Also easier to use.
My 2p's worth.
resco backup works fine for me
I use SPB Backup.
- Allows you to do a full back-up including storage card to phone/storage card.
- Allows you to skip previous back-up files
- Can create a stand-alone file
- Can customize restore your full back-up like PIM, Text, Email, Documents, BUT leave out system files when doing a ROM upgrade.
The list goes on and on...
