The IM app seems to be working great. However, is there a way to get an audible signal/tone when I receive a message and the phone has gone to what I guess is standby?
i.e. I'm chatting on AIM. I set the phone down to do something, and come back a few minutes later. I open the phone to find a message stating "A message has been received would you like to open the conversation?" But I never received an audible tone.
Is there a way to make it chime even when the screen is black?

I have developed a strange issue as of late with my text message notifications while my Fuze is in standby. When I have the system/ring volume up, it notifies me just fine, even when in standby, but when I put it to vibrate I get no notification (besides the flashing ring) of a text message or email. This only happens when I am running a rom that is not stock. The problem goes away when I flash back to stock, but re-appears again if I flash to a custom rom, regardless of which chef's rom I use. Any help would be much appreciated, as its killing me to be stuck on this stock rom lol.
this happens to me to , you should try G-profile . look it up on google or search it here .
basically you can make a profile that overrides all other profiles and if the notifacation only works for a period of time you can make enough profiles that it switches before it stops notifing again . :] good luck !
Thanks for the advice, I will give that a try if all else fails. I would really like to figure out the root of this issue, rather than a work-around. I have noticed questions about this issue pop up in other rom threads, but no answers seem to have been posted.
Edit: The phone functionality is unaffected by the change from tone to vibrate, it works as expected when I receive a phone call. The text message and email notifications, however, do not.
I have the same thing on the ROM is my sig.
The only way I found to make it work is that you have to check the Vibrate option in the Sounds & Notifications for the alert you want.
For example...New Test Message...it wouldn't vibrate if that was unchecked, but if I checked it, then it vibrates just fine.
for me i get text notifications but no email notifications :[ . i use the app for the work around because people have actually been mean to me saying that its impossible to not get notifacations :[
I have the same problem. Ive checked vibrate under text and all, yet it does not vibrate and only does the flashing ring. What should i do
Hey guys,
As the title says, I'm brand new to the Captivate.
When I'm having conversations over text message, is there any way to make the incoming texts appear on my screen in the order in which I receive them? Right now all of my typed messages appear at the bottom of my screen, and if I receive a text I have to scroll all the way to the top to view it.
For example:
Friend: Test
Me: Response
Friend: Test
Me: Response
If messages were typed in this order, it currently appears like this on my phone:
Friend: Test
Friend: Test
Me: Response
Me: Response
Is there any way to change that? I love everything about this phone, but it's getting obnoxious having to scroll up 10 or 15 texts every time I receive a new one from somebody. Thanks in advance.
Honestly, the simplest fix is to use handcent or another third party messaging app.
Edit...I see you are brand new to the captivate.....you heard of the inspire? Might want to give it a thought.
Hmmm... It's certainly not supposed to be like that. My phone always showed the messages in the order I received them, so something is wrong and I couldn't find anything in the settings to change it. You might want to try Handcent from the market, there's a free version and it is EXTREMELY customizable. I mean, it's down right ridiculous how much you can customize every aspect of your SMS and MMS using it. Maybe that'll be a simple fix for your messages not appearing in order. If you decide to go with Handcent, make sure you turn notifications off in the stock messaging app or else you'll get two separate notifications each time you get a text, which gets annoying pretty quickly.
EDIT: I guess I type too slow, newter beat me to the punch
I get the a very similar (or even same) thing running Cog or stock. What I have noticed....this only occurs if your reply has the same time stamp as the received message i.e. if you receive a message at 9:46pm and reply to it within the same minute (in relation to your phone's time), also 9:46pm, your message will show out of order.
Hmm....now that I look over my messages...I have a MILD theory...
Messages are organized in chronological order, but the time stamps do not include seconds, only down to the minute. Afterwards, the system has to organize by something....so it goes to Name. My first guess would be if the message is sent from someone with name that comes before "Me" alphabetically, their message (send at the same minute) would appear first, and vice versa if their name is after "Me." Errr.....maybe it is by phone number, not name.......errrr....damn, that doesn't hold up 100% either now that I have looked even harder.....jeez.....only 1 message might jump up?
eh, I've just learned to live with it. Can't be too picky. Every phone has its little quirks. Just depends on which ones you want to deal with
I had the smell issue with either stock or handcent messaging apps. The problem to me was the time in my region being sent by the cell towers was off by about 70 seconds. When I would travel to another region of the country, I didn't have a problem.
I solved it with a program from the market called ClockSync (though I'm sure there are others) which sets the correct time on my phone.

I have posted here but recieved no answer. I figured my question belongs here anyway, so I won't bump the other thread.
I am trying to use Hangouts as my default SMS app (It is also currently the only SMS app installed on my device) because I do like it. However I noticed that sometimes I don't get any notification when I recieve a text message, no vibration, nor sound nor notification in the status bar. As a result, I miss quite a lot of texts. Notice that I do recieve those texts, if I check the app they are there, text bold to indicate they are not yet read. I just don't get the notification. Also, most of the time I do get the notifications without a problem. So to be clear, this is about some SMS's, not about all.
As far as I know this happens when I recieve the message very shortly after I put down my phone (my routine: send text, press 'backbutton' once to get in the hangouts overview, and then I press power to shut of the screen and put the phone down.) If I get a message let's say within half a minute of me turning of the screen I won't have a clue I recieved the message until I go look in hangouts to check. This happens often when someone is quick to respond to my own message, but could maybe be happening with other messages I recieve in that time. I don't think this happens to messages I recieve when the screen has been off for a time, but I can't say that with certainty.
I have a HTC One S currently running CM11, but I had this problem on stock ROM too. However never with the HTC stock messaging app.
I have found similar problems here on the forums, but no satifying answers. I hope someone has a solution?

Hi
Since I flashed the Nougat update, I have a problem with the incoming call popup.
When I receive a call while using another app, and I answer the call, it opens in full screen.
I want it to be like it was on Marshmallow. (keep the call in the popup)
Is there any way to fix it?
Thx.
try with double tap on the multitask icon.
It's no good enough.
What if I'm watching a video or playing a game?
Instead of moving to the call activity -> turn on the speaker -> go back to the privious app, I want to keep the call in the small popup like it was before.
call on pop-up dialog box seems to have been removed since update.
The phone answering issue was the first thing I noticed with the Nougat update.
I loved that feature, I can't believe they got rid of it.
But yet the messenger is still like that.
Are we sure that there is no way to get that feature back?
I have been looking everywhere for a fix to this problem. I loved that I could play, browse or do anything without an incoming call interrupting me.
Is there really no way of changing it back?
At the very least, I hope that they bring it back on another update.
Hoping there's a fix. I don't always want to answer the phone when I'm doing something. It was easy to ignore the call before, but now it pops up full screen and when I decline the call it locks my screen.
I had been looking everywhere for this setting thinking it was reverted. Now I know it was just removed. I hope they patch it back in.
I do not know if I have a unique problem or I changed something in my settings but I have spent hours online and on my phone trying to figure this out. If I get a notification and pick up my phone within a short period of time (less than a minute or so), whatever app that notification came from launches and displays the item that sent the notification. For example, if I get a text message or email and pick up my phone with the intention of launching my web browser, the text message or email will pop up on my screen before I can do anything. This is great if I want to read that text or email but often I do not want to do that until later and it irritates the crap out of me to have to close that app and go where I intended. I think I may have changed a setting and cannot find my way back to the setting to turn it off but not sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I am posting this in case anyone else runs into this problem. I finally figured out it was not an S8 setting, it was a Gear watch setting. I turned on Smart Relay in the Gear settings and caused this.
