What do you have to to do make programs appear on the "programs" menu in wm6? I installed a new ROM and have soem apps installed in the storage card that I would like to put back under the programs section.
Thanks in advance
You have to create a shortcut to the app that you want, and then copy it to /windows/start menu/programs
Greetings

Or, if you have installed "Resco Explorer", tap and hold on the ".exe" file then select "Send to" -> "Start Menu as Shortcut". After add all the shortcuts, soft reset the device and the added shortcuts should go to "Start" -> "Programs", (otherwise, they are staying under "Start").
i have a very easy solution ;-)
(if you know how to do shortcuts on a Windows System)
Open 2 Windows with the explorer. With the one you go to the Mobile-Device/Windows/Start Menu/Programs/ - Folder
and the other one you go to the directory of your storagecard, where the exe of the program is.
now do it like in Windows.
Right click and Hold the exe-file, and drag&drop it to the other Window with Start-Menu open. And click "Create Shortcut here"
Here's a solution if you don't want to install a third party application or don't have access to activesync
Thanks to mobinauts for this.
i) Open your File Explorer (default application).
ii) Locate the application's .exe file that u wish to create a shortcut for (usually found in its application folder and also usually the most outstanding icon in that folder).
iii) Tap and hold on it and under the sub-menu that appears, tap 'Copy'.
iv) Go to 'My Device\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\' folder.
v) Tap and hold on an empty space and select 'Paste Shortcut'.
vi) U can then rename the shortcut file by doing a tap-and-hold on the file and selecting 'Rename' (e.g. 'Shortcut to Bejeweled.exe.lnk' to just 'Bejeweled.lnk' or just BW.lnk).
vii) Done = u should be able to access your application from the Start>Programs menu.
Does anybody know how to make shortcut from SD card folder to programs in Topaz?
Thanx
Do you mean how to make a program .exe file that is stored on your SD card so that the program appears in the program list?
If so I use the free "Total Commander" program that is a much better file manager than the WM effort. It has a facility under "File/>>>>>>/Create shortcut" you then select "Tree" and choose where you want the shortcut to appear.
Can't you make a shortcut (.lnk file) and place it in the "start menu" folder?
This is how a .lnk file that points to an app on my internal storge on D1 looks:
59#"\Programfiler\htcAddicts cleanRAM\htcAddicts_cleanRAM.exe"

I'm not sure but probably no. I haven't found in windows folder.exe file for shortcut creating. There are only .exe files for individual settings.
i've created a shortcut to the file and placed it in program files but it doesn't show up on my programs list. i've also tried changing the regestry but it still doesn't show up on the applications list. instead it appears on my start shortcuts with the icon as an empty folder, and it still doesn't open. i'm also having trouble creating the .ink file. can someone please give me more information on how to create the .ink file and where to store it.
thanks
WOW is this really so hard?? Start>File Explorer>Navigate to file>Press and hold>Send Shortcut to Programs then go to the programs tab and click a button and find it.
Step-by-step instructions for HD2:
1. Open File Explorer
2. Open IGO8 folder
3. Find IGO8.exe, press and hold, Copy
4. Press Up, Press Up, Open Windows (Main Menu)
5. Open Start Menu
6. Open Programs
7. Press Menu, select Edit, select Paste Shortcut
8. Optional - rename - delete "Shortcut to" so only IGO8 appears on Programs list
9. Optional - use Edit Quicklinks (must have Co0kies Home Tab & Editor installed) from Home page to install the icon into your home page quick links.

Uhm, yeah this thread is about a year old now, so they've probably figured it out by now....
BTW, its easier to create the shortcut with Total Commander.
I really like Winmo 6.5 and the winmo 6.5 start menu, I've seen a few roms where the startmenu contains folders like applications, multimedia, tools etc. The programs installes can then be found in the according folders. I have the folders , but the programs are not in them, they are just in the startmenu. How can I put the programs in the folders ?

Windows / Start Menu / Programs is where the shortcut is you want to move, and the folders are folders in Programs, just move to the appropriate folder.
how can i change the looks of those folders??

Use your Registry Editor to go to HKLM\Security\Shell\StartInfo\Start - you'll see that all of the existing shortcuts and folders have icon values. Just create similar for your new folder (ie I copied the icon value for the default Email shortcut to apply to a "messaging" folder.
When i upgrade to rom with w6.5 my program are still installed on memcard and works, but i want to add icons under "program" in sense so i have shortcuts easy. How do i get these programs so i can choose it from "add program" Help !

Ok, i reinstalled a couple of programs, then i get the shortcut in right place, but programs like tomtom i doesn´t want to reinstall i will try your way. But i don´t have resco, any regedit program will work, right ?
Here is the right way to assign a shortcut (and WM6.5 "Bronze" icon) for any program
This can be manually added to the registry or via .REG or .PROVXML
This example is for a standard REG (RGU) unicode text file, and will add a start menu ("bronze") shortcut with anasociated icon for a software called "goleada4.0", which is installed in "Program Files\Alcorcon" (just an example, not a real app, just wahtever came to my mind first )
Code:
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Shell\StartInfo\Start\Tools\Goleada4.0.lnk]
"Icon"="\\Profgram Files\\Alcorcon\\Goleada4.0.png"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Manila\ProgramLauncher]
"\\Program Files\\Alcorcon\\Goleada4.0.exe"="\\Program Files\\Alcorcon\\whatever.qtc"
Notice the last line MUST be empty, following the standard .REG / .RGU syntax
Hope this helps
Wow! That's complicated. Why not just use the file explorer on the device, navigate to the .exe, copy and then go to Windows/Start Menu/Programs and paste a shortcut there?
Or you can use the attached programme.
Any idea?
for some programms...they don't work in combination with sense.
they appear changed in winmo but once you add a quicklink there is the old annoying icon.
anyway overall Bing SUCKS and always slows down my HD2.
I could change the Icon with HComber.
Thanks, but hcomber didn't work, too.
Any idea where the icon is located?
Same problem for the Voice Recorder.
Try this :
1) Make a duplicate of the shortcut (e.g : "Garmin Mobile XT.lnk" when duplicated, Copy of
"Garmin Mobile XT.lnk")
2) Rename "Garmin Mobile XT.lnk" to "Garmin XT.lnk"
3) Use CSMI or JWMD to change the icon of the new shortcut created...
4) Now, add the newly created shortcut and see whether the icon has changed in the
Sense shortcut in the home tab menu! ( I did this and it worked...for a couple of my
shortcuts that changed in WM but didn't in Sense)
5) If it works, now delete the old shortcut and you're good to go...
***Hope this helped...
@Carina
Thanks, but how to find the shortcuts? Where are they? For example, where can i find the bing shortcut?
Try looking for the .lnk in \Windows\Start Menu\Programs...
It worked! Many thanks!

I have used the other method on this thread (ie, creating shortcuts); but this way my start menu gets cluttered with all the shortcuts due to me not wanting to delete the original "system files" - I get a warning (eg/ Word mobile, MSN Messenger).
What is the best way to get around this problem?
You just have to do the following:

What if CSMI can't apply an icon?
Delete all files located in \Application Data\HTC\ProgLauncher
Change that icon with CSMI
Remove the application icon from the homescreen
Just add back it back in Sense homescreen.. that's it!
That, however, applies only to HTC Sense: if you want Windows Mobile Start Menu icon to be updated (this applies to v1.2+ too), just soft-reset your phone!
Update!!
I've found a bug/feature in manila which prevents some icons to be changed.
Since many users were complaining about not being able to change some icons I've started investigating the problem and found that if you try to use a custom icon which have the same filename of one of the images found in \Windows then Manila will always load that instead of your customized one.
In order to easily fix the problem, just rename your icon
This bug affects ONLY manila, therefore in the start menu everything will look fine BUT in the Homescreen you will always have the original icon!

Ok... I've got to the bottom of this now.
After changing the icons seemingly ok last night by renaming them, I turned the phone on again this morning and some of them had reset... nightmare!
To solve the problem, I used a combination of renaming the icons and deleting the relevant .bmg files in \Application Data\HTC\ProgLauncher (ie, following the guide you quoted).
For anyone reading this in the future, I will make two notes:
1. If you can't find the relevant .bmg file in the ProgLauncher folder; you simply have to rename your icon and then change it with CSMI - it will then appear in the folder and should change the icon with no problems (you won't have to delete anything!).
2. If a .bmg file does exist in the ProgLauncher folder, just delete it and change the icon with CSMI. If after a reset the icon goes back to the original, just change the icon name.
Doing this I came across a problem with the 'Bing' logo. The program icon doesn't populate in my CSMI list - even without filtering. As I write this I have not yet searched about this particular problem (it seems that this thread was started for this issue though!); but if anyone can help, it would be appreciated.
