Anyway get G1 into windows home network? - G1 Android Development

I was thinking if there is anyway to get the G1 t access my home network so I can get access to my network resources and copy file from my others hardrives to my android insted of connect the phone to the computer each time. This came to my mind because it's easy and you will have less oportunity of messing up the mini usb port on the phone.

[APP] SwiFTP - FTP for your phone

I found this cool app in the Market, and wanted to post it up in case anyone else might find it useful. Don't know if anyone else has seen this app before, but it is an FTP server for your phone. You can connect to your phone over WiFi using any FTP client software. It is actually pretty awesome, and I have been using it at work to save files to my phone since I usually leave my USB cable at home.
You just turn on your phones Wi-Fi, Start the server and it gives you the FTP IP address to connect to and your SDcard pops up so you can manage your files as if it was a drive on your computer.
Pretty cool stuff, and also great to show off your phone when at a buddies house and you want to copy a file over.
I can't post links, but you can search for SwiFTP in the market or go to swiftp.org

Nice, I will need to check that one out too.
Hi Dave. i downloaded this file and installed it by typing in a username and password and then typing in sdcard. The port number. I am assuming you are using a WTP program on the computer to connect to the SWIFTP app to gain access to your computer right? I'm not getting any connection. I'm confused, how do you manage to see what is on your computer? Do you need another program on your computer for this to work?

Is there a Remote Desktop applicaion that can copy from PC and save to device?

I have tested team viewer and phone2PC with no luck.
I used to run RemoteTouch on my old Touch HD. Just got a Desire HD and miss the ability to be a thousand miles away from home, realising I haven't got the song I wanted to listen to and copy and pasting it to my SD card.
I've also had a look at RemoteVNC and Xtralogic but they log the computer out on connection.
Is there anything out there?
Here's a link to RemoteTouch, highly recommended for Winmo users
http://t2remotetouch.blogspot.com/
Think Remote Desktop by xtralogic allows save to sdcard. RemoteVNC Pro might do it too.
Almost
Thanks for the reply, they look pretty cool. Only thing that is getting me is that they log the user out so to get any files I would have to interrupt the session. It's a bit of a pain if my girlfriend then needs the computer and I have to give out my password.
Sorry, I should have specified in the first post. Will edit now

No, that's specific and requires me pre-empting what I might forget.
Looking for a remote desktop app with the ability to transfer files that doesn't logout users. Have a look at T2 Remote touch, that app was awesome and exactly what I'm looking for
Have you tried logmein ignition? I can't test it right now, but it should do what you want.

I miss remote touch
One option is to use ES file explorer. It's the best explorer I have found and it supports local access, Bluetooth access, LAN access and finally ftp access. I have tested all these features except ftp. As I understand it though you could create a ftp server on your desktop to share your files over the web and use this app as a client. Another advantage of creating a ftp server is you can access your files through any internet browser.
I'm still struggling with creating the ftp server at the moment. It seems you need a bit of knowledge in web hosting and networking. If anyone can help I would be grateful.
I am using LAN feature atm. I just browse my PC files through the app and copy and paste anything to local SD card. Highly recommended.
Hope this helps.
MyPhonexplorer does the job well although at times it does not work at all for me. Try it. It slows transfer via by or wifi

You could also use LogMeIn or Teamviewer to browse through your files, and copy them to the dropbox folder. Then access them from the mobile. Pretty messy but it works.
Just a tip for easy FTP server setup: FileZilla FTP Server - runs great on WinXP-7 and is easy to setup/use. ES File Explorer works great for ftp access (in my experience).
You should definitely check Browsix (a new app I just released). It has a file manager (+ media viewer) which you can access by pointing your computer browser to www .browsix. com.
The site redirects you to your phone, and that's where the fun starts...
Let me know if you like this app or not.
Thanks,
Stijn

Can you post a video in your thread? I'm very interested in this app but paranoid about clicking unfamiliar links, especially on my work computer. It's only because you only have one or two posts, no offense intended.
Guys, I added some more explanation about Browsix in the other thread. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9714021&postcount=6
Hopefully I can convince you that we are not spam. I took a lot of time to develop this android application

[Q] Application to copy from PC and paste to phone

is there any app for copy-paste from PC to phone and vice versa?
for example, I found some interesting article in my PC, and I want to copy some part of it to my phone.. I could've send the file via bluetooth, email, or USB connection.. but I think it'd be very neat to just copy the text (not the file) from your PC and paste it on your phone..
or in the opposite direction, I received an interesting SMS from my phone and I want to copy it to my PC..
is there any app like that?
I know that the app Chrome to Phone together with a plugin in either Chrome or Firefox on the computer does exactly that! However I don't know if there's in the opposit direction.

It's though 2.2 only and it doesn't work with lower versions of Android because it is a new API.

Hmm then it's strange that you don't find it. It's my first entry when searching on Chrome to Phone.
It's not the latest version but a google search resulted in this thread with an apk-file.

Download ES file explorer. You can add your computer as a lan drive (over WiFi) then any folders that are shared can be viewed on your phone. you can copy any file over. i have apks on my computer. If i view them with ES file explorer it coppies them to my phone then installs them. i also transfer music over this way. It might even work the other way if you change the folder permissions on the computer

wow.. I'm not using WiFi.. I'm using bluetooth instead, and it works really well! shared a folder on my laptop and copy-paste from and to phone in that folder.. neat!
Dropbox.
Just install it on your pc, sign up for an account (it's free but you can pay for upgrades to storage size) and install the app on your phone. Tada! Any file you put into your Dropbox folder is downloadable via the Dropbox app. It works both ways!
Edit: Oops just read your entire question. Hm well I guess you can use dropbox but then for your purposes you'd have to copy paste said text to a note app and then upload the note file to dropbox..Can't think of a more direct way.
Maybe you can find an app that has Google Docs integration. Either way you need an internet connection.

I use this all day.
I have a text file and folders that I just edit on my pc and I have it directly here on my iPhone, bb and android phone. It's the best app I've ever used. I have shares folders with friends and I can share files and pictures with them directly from my phone and then it also shows up on my pc the next time I turn it on. It's fantastic.

[Q] Easy way to send files to Phone

Hi guys i was thinking how useful Chrome to Phone is and the ease that it has brought me, and i was wondering if there is a similar app that will allow me to send files from my pc to my phone (and maybe vice versa but am not too bothered about that).
Rather than using bluetooth, maybe an app that you could just right click on the file and give an option to send to a phone over the internet.
Does anyone know of an app like that?
Thanks in advance
Dropbox
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
yeah i have dropbox, but you cant right click on the file and send it to phone, you have to copy the file into the dropbox folder and then go onto the dropbox app on your phone then navigate to it and then download it.
Thanks, but i am looking for something that will immediately download it straight to my phone, just like chrome to phone does with websites
DROPBOX
I think dropbox is the best you're going to get...the only this that is quicker than dropbox is adb one the computer but that defeats the whole not having to plug in anything.
There is also adbwireless (though not as user-friendly since you have to use the command line---there may be a script or something you can do to add the command to your right-click menu though). You can also run an FTP server on your phone using something like SwiFTP. Then just map your phone as a drive on your computer. Then it's just simple drag-and-drop.
well maybe if there arent any option it could be a great idea for a developer, i not being one, have no idea how to do that, but i think it could be a great app.
SugarSync lets you set up a folder that will automatically sync to your phone. It can be any directory you choose. Not quite as simple as chrome to phone but works similar to dropbox with 5GB free.
I use windows 7's built in bluetooth software to connect to an app called bluetooth file transfer on my phone. Of course, you need bluetooth hardware on you computer to do this.

You could give WIFI Explorer a try. Connect your phone through WiFi and navigate to it's IP in your internet browser. You can upload/delete/copy/move files. Only disadvantage is that it's only for external storage access...
http://www.androlib.com/android.application.com-dooblou-wififileexplorerpro-Awzw.aspx
Samba File Sharing. Never used it myself, but heard good things.
There's also FileExpert. It can start a file server, that you browse to on your computer, then upload through an HTML form. (When started, it pops up the URL to use)
I usually use AndFTP, which requires me to have an ftp server running on my computer. All the browsing is then done from the phone.
Alternatively, SwiFTP is an ftp server for the phone - then you can run the client on your computer and browse from there.
SwiFTP gets a big +1 from me: Two minutes set-up, and then whenever the App/WiFi is open, your phone is accessible as a shared drive: I'm using this for everything but 500mb+ video transfers. I can just drag and drop e-books/APKs/etc from folder to folder and they're instantly on my phone.
On a related topic: CIFSmanager is a great App to browse your PC files from your phone, and then copy/paste any over. I use both daily

+1 on this app also. It's not perfect by any means but there have been dozens of times I have just forgotten my usb cable or simply needed quick access to push or pull something off my SD. It's really a pretty decent app and it does get the job done quickly. It has a free and pro so you could always check out the free and see if its like what you want.

This works great in the way is as simple as write the 4 numbers code and drop the file to the PC browser, but it's slower as it uses the upload speed (uploads the file to somewhere), so for large files is slow. Wifi Explorer is much faster because uses the speed of the router (which is different from the ADSL speed). FTP is also very faster.

[Q] Transfer Files Easily

Is there any app that allows you to make a folder on your computer which you can just drag and drop files into it and it then downloads to your phone instantly.. or near enough to it?
I don't want the hassle of having to (as an example) placing a file into drop box > open drop box > locate file > save file.
Is there any such thing?
Dropbox has a feature like this. You download the application on your PC (OS X, Linux, or Windows) and you set it up with your personal infomation. It'll create a folder and that folder is a synced folder.
It'll be automatically on your Dropbox and then you can download it onto your phone via the app or vice versa.
Edit: This is just a folder on your computer. Completely breaks the use of using the actual Dropbox site.

Okay.. after trying them all out... here's what iv found.
Can't seem to get drop box synced so that it automatically downloads onto my phone. I have synced enabled.
Pushbullet is prettttty good! Only thing is that i have to open the app and save the file
Airdroid is perfect except that it only has 100mb (free)
And after thinking about it.. Google+ is pretty good for sharing pictures between phone and PC.
I will keep using them all until i find the one that suits me most!
Thank you all! (i will thank you all later since iv gave 8 thanks already today lol)
