Windows Mobile lock device - General Questions and Answers

Hi,
How does Windows mobile lock the device using the today tab? is there a exe it invokes when lock is press on today screen?

lock.exe in your windows folder

Is there a way to envoke the device lock, the one requiring a password.
Thanks

Hi,
i can't find lock.exe in Windows folder

Hey guys this cab will allow you to assign device lock to hard keys. Also I included a seperate device lock.exe which will put the phone into lock so you can map the .exe with whatever app.
Enjoy.

Thank you so much Mikee4fun, you rule!

Thanks for the app but it is not working on my HTC touch diamond. I installed it allright and I can see it in my programs list but when I click on it nothing happens.

Hi!
I think I have the opposite problem.
After definition connection to my work mail server, my HTC Touch HD (Windows 6.1) is locked automatically every 20 minutes.
It is very disturb especially during using navigation software.
Each 20 minutes I should stop my car and unlock the telephone.
Company security policy did some changes in the registry and now not possible to disable the lock option.
Any suggestions?
Regards.

It does with a bit of work.
This is how you do it:
- it works!!!!
In the directory you installed the Mobile Developer Power Toys, find the "Activesync Remote Display" directory and RTFM ......
Basically, all you need to do is copy the two files in "C:\Program Files\Windows Mobile Developer Power Toys\ActiveSync_Remote_Display\devices\wce400\armv4t" to the \WINDOWS directory on your WM5.0 device using ActiveSync.
When you fire up the shortcut for ActiveSync Remote Display on your PC, it *****es that "The OS or CPU of this device is unknown to this application" - just click OK and your WM5.0 display will appear in the main window!!!! The first time that you start and stop the remote display, your phone/device will give you the "This program is from an unknown publisher...." message, so just say Yes and it won't ask you again.
The only caveat is that you seem to get the remote display icon (windows logo in a circle) in the notification area (where the battery and screen rotation icons are) one position to the left each time you stop and start the remote display. No big deal, but can look a bit weird after you've stopped/started about ten times
Give it a go - the quality of the display on the PC is as crap as ever (and zooming it only makes it worse), but it's still nice to be able to compose a message reply on a full size keyboard from time to time
Cheers, Mark.

Excellent, thanks
works like a charm..
Do you know why they got rid of some of the toolbars and buttons on WM5?
for example, there is no send and receive button on the outlook window, and no speed dial button on the phone window.
Thanks

Com port config app for Google Maps

Here is a port selection utility I wrote to configure GMM and other WM5 GPS API based applications on the Smartphone platform. Unzip, copy to your phone and run to select comm port for GMM to use.
Tested on HTC S620 but should be ok for DASH and other WM5 smartphones.
Enjoy!
NOTE: Changing the "enabled" state requires a phone restart to take effect including the initial run
Very nice work. If I hadn't already done it on my dash i'd test it for you. But I don't see why things would differ.
Good job, this should be very helpful to others.
Great job, it works on my dopod C720w. Thanks a lot!
thanks a lot worked like a charm i had done all the registry work but still without success but used the program to set to com6 and gmm finally saw the bt gps. thanks for the little program.
Thank you very much. Works on my Moto Q.

This app is for WM5 Smartphones.
PPCs have GPS config exposed in the settings page.
Thanks! Works fine on my SDA.
works great
Just thought I'd note to any n00b's out there that you need to have your phone app unlocked to make this work (due to teh fact that you are making registry changes). Don't ask me how I know
works on my tmobile dash, love it
Need Help
Hello folks!
Could someone please let me know how to setup the application - like the details on how to choosee the COM port?
I have installed the GoogleMaps and while installing the GPSCOM application, I had set it "Enabled" and selected 'COM6' and saved. Still, when trying to connect from GMM, I am getting the message, unable to locate the GPS device.
Any Help?
Thanks.
Try this on WM6
Hi,
What is the worst possible scenario in trying this on WM6?
working with the blackjack
I have a blackjack and the registry is locked for editing. When I ran this program I got an error along the same lines.
"
GPSCOM.exe
ExternalExeption
An error occured creating the registry key.
RegistryKey::CreateSubKey+0x65
RegistryKey::CreateSubkey+0x8
Form1::ctor+0xec
Form1:Mail+0xa
"
Is there a way to unlock the registry?
My Q doesn't run executeables (exe). Did I miss a step to run GPSCOM.exe on my Q?

You need to set up a new outgoing com port to your GPS device.
Go into the communication manager.
Select settings/bluetooth settings
Menu/ COM Ports
Menu/ New Outgoing Port
Select your bluetooth device and make the port number the same as you used in the GPSCOM app (I think it defaults to 6). Then when you run google maps and track location (GPS) it should totally work.
Doesn't work with my dash for some reason.
Am I missing something?
Where exactly do I put the file? Because when I execute in my Dash, here's the message I get.
Error
An unexpected error has occurred in GPSCOM.exe.
Select Quit and then restart this program, or select Details for more information.
Details:
GPSCOM.exe
ExternalException
An error occured creating the registry key.
RegistryKey::CreateSubKey+0x65
RegistryKey::CreateSubKey+0x8
Form1::ctor+0xec
Form1::Main+0xa
Can anyone please help.

You need to app unlock to run unsigned software which needs to edit the registry. See the first link here:

Not working on Q
I had Mapopolis working with my Route66 BTGPS on my Q but really like GMM. Installed GPSCOM set it to Com1 (also tried com9) and now both Mapopolis and GMM lock up just after the select device screen.
Help, please

Want to stop TomTom using Windows Button to start

After having installed the HTC cab for TomTom (just the app + one free city map) on my Orbit 2 I noticed that TomTom has hijacked the Windows button.
I've been through every option in the TomTom settings, but can't find a way to stop this.
Can anyone advise a simple way of making my windows button go back to its original purpose (brings up the start menu) - other than uninstalling TomTom (I can work that out for myself!)
Thanks,
Roy.
Try the Settings of WM6 !
Mine is german, so i can´t tell you exactly what to do.
I mean it has to be Menu-Setting-Keys
Key 1 is what is changed by TomTom.
Change this setting to whatever you like.

Yeah, in the English version its Start/Settings/Buttons, then change the one that says TomTom to <Start Menu>
thanks
Thank you to both of you.

Does that work with the Touch Cruise, too? I ask that, because the Touch Cruise has a GPS-Button instead of a Windows button.
PS: I don't own a Windows Mobile phone, but want to buy one in near future.
Yep, curiously the icons for the buttons are for mail and calendar, just like the first two buttons on most WM phones.

But I want one key to open the Windows Start Menu and one key as OK key. Can I assign them like that?
yes, you can assign any application and some functions without troubles.

Lock Screen on WM 6.5 (Automatic UNLOCK)

Hi,
I tried to find a way to unlock my original WM6.5 Unlock Screen via MortScript or similar tools, but i can´t find anything.
Is there anybody who knows about a solution for this Problem? Something like a smal tool which i can execute?
I use the WM6.5 Unlock Screen together with Auto Lock (CSDEVCTRL)
For those who don´t know what i mean with WM6.5 Unlock Screen, klick here (google Frame)

First off you would have to have the lock screen NOT block all buttons.
So you could have something to map to the mortscript.
Second, I'm not even sure if there is a click and hold option for mortscript, which would be needed to have the lock screen unlock itself by sliding the slider.
I just did a quick glance at the mortscript 4.3 manual and didn't see the click and hold option. I would suggest asking for help with a mortscript in the mortscript examples and accumulation thread.

That´s a hint for me. CSDEVCTRL has a keymapping-function for unlocking, maybe i can write a mortscript in addition to this keymapping-function.
But I´m still locking for a easier way to unlock the phone. I found out, that the process which is in foreground while device is locked, is gwes.exe. But i can´t find any arrguments that can control this service. (All arguments i tried caused into a crash...)

Maybe write a mortscript to just end this process?
Not sure if that would simply unlock the device or not.
If so then that's kinda retarded on microsoft's behalf.
But AutoHotkey is in the process of being ported to WindowsMobile.
It's slow going since it's developers working on it in their free time; but once it's finished that will give you the functions you're looking for to write a macro type of script to unlock the device.
But as of right now, just trying to kill that process is the only idea I can think...
Here's a mortscript that will check if gwes.exe is running, and if so it will kill it, if not it will pop up a message saying there is not gwes.exe process.
Code:
If( ProcExists( "gwes.exe" )=1 )
Kill( "gwes.exe" )
ElseIf( ProcExists( "gwes.exe" )=0 )
Message("There in NO Gwes.exe process running.")
EndIf
Exit
Otherwise this one will just kill gwes.exe if it's running.
Code:
If( ProcExists( "gwes.exe" )=1 )
Kill( "gwes.exe" )
EndIf
Exit
Make sure to save the script as
scriptname.mscr
and have the latest version of mortscript installed (located here).
Thank you for your help. But killing gwes.exe causes the device crashing, too.
Yeah, I was afraid of that.
Well if I think of anything I'll let you know.
Until then, here's a bump for the thread.
Hi,
is there a possibility to do a screen unlock application which can be activated by voice commander? the situation is this...
I used voice commander to launch google maps while my hand is busy when the screen is lock. however, i will need a program which can be initiated by the voice commander to unlock the screen so that i can navigate the maps. Right now i will have to unlock the screen the normal way which i find voice commander redundant since i'll have to use my finger during lunching anyway.
Can you help me on this? Many thanks in advance. =)
Bump
Looking for this too, as I want to have a time scheduled mortscript run some programs in the morning, but the lock is the problem now. Added this to my watch list.
I want it
Hello,
I need that too !
Please if someone knows how to unlock the screen with a little exe or something, just tell it
Thanks
I know this thread has gone quiet but I was searching for a solution too & came up with the following:
ToggleDisplay(ON)
MouseDown( 240, 775 )
MouseUp(480, 775 )
If you don't have a WVGA device with slider at the bottom, you'll need to adjust the values.
try it!
WM6.1 test OK!

[App link please]HTC lock app

[SOLVED]
s2u2 deletes a file called lockscreen.exe from the windows folder so just had to find that and install it again.
[solved]
i've tried to search for a locking app that i like, but s2u2 doesn't let me play videos, smart lock bugs my phone and it blacks out randomly and pocketshield costs too much for what i am looking for.
i like the HTC lock, the only thing i don't like is that i have to go into the start menu to lock my phone, is there an app that i can shortcut?
i've looked in the windows folder for a lock program hoping i could just copy and paste a short cut and quick link it, but i couldn't find one. (if there is a way like this what would the program name be?)
if there isn't a simple way like that is there a CAB out there?
thanks.
S2U2 works great for me, and why play video when phone is locked??
For the default WM6.5 lockscreen, there are some autolock tools, but you have to search. Always search before post.

i think that he/she may mean that s2u2 locks the device when video is playing (ie after whatever timeout).... the solution to this simple... add your video player to the exceptions list in s2u2 settings.
ye s2u2 times out and locks my phone. i've added numerous files that are related to that player to the exeptions but it made no difference. either way i would prefer to keep the regular locking tool but would prefer a program for it so i can quick link it.
i always search, i tell others to so it wouldn't be fair if i didn't
but my searches always lead to s2u2 or pocketshield so i've posted the request. lol most of the threads that are about this end up being about s2u2 and that's why it is hard to find a solution because most people settle for s2u2.
