New Live Messenger from Microsoft for Nokia. No update for WM??? - General Topics

This is becoming ridiculous... Microsoft only releases the good stuff for other platforms instead of windows mobile.
Now they've released an updated version for Nokia (Symbian).

Also I remember running the official (previous version) of live messenger on my old Nokia N73 and I was a bit shocked when I started using it on WM since the version for symbian looked so much better...

i really hate microsoft right now. they suck ASS. i really hope this year goes really bad for them

I wish they cared more about wm... I don't think ms have realised that the mobile world is the future. By neglecting their own mobile os they're shooting themselves in their leg.
Or maybe they're sick of it all and are trying to kill off windows mobile???

u obviously are not business minded. why would microsoft give up on a cash machine that is windows mobile.
sometimes its a better idea for them to branch out to other os. increase revenue. make a presence everywhere

Yea I get your point but by doing that they also make windows mobile less attractive... The cash they might win from developing for other platforms they might lose from wm instead.
I've been a symbian user for years before I switched to wm for various reasons. Nokia supports their OS to 100%, they're constantly developing apps and stuff for their platform... With ms & wm it's almost the opposite. It makes people wonder what the hell is going on in their heads since they are not backing up their own mobile os.

There is probaby nothing new compared to the WM version. But yeah it would be nice to get updated stuff for WM before anyone else.

Custom User Interface

Hey people,
I own an E-Ten X500 (WM6). I just can't stand the Windows Mobile UI and I want to make my own one, similar like the iPhone UI. I tried PointUI and loved the speed and how smooth the animations are, but the design isn't what I'm looking for, plus when pressing e.g. messages, you go back to the default Windows UI.
Is it possible to totally replace the Windows Mobile UI? I don't know much about programming, but I know a little ActionScript. Is it possible to create a 'total' UI for windows mobile in Flash? Any tips?
Easy..... Buy an iPhone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
an iphone would be cutting back on functionality alot. I too hope a UI replacement for windows mobile is made, although one based on flash wouldnt be very good i think as was evident from an sms n contacts UI app whose name i cant remember. I dont know alot about wm programming OR UI stuff but i do hope someone comes out with an alternative UI for WM just like we have magnificent UIs for xp etc like litestep.

Yea man I will eventually, but until then (when it's officially out in the Netherlands) I'd like to be able to create something that I actually like

Blackberry STORM

seems like an interesting device.. may not be windows mobile or android but blackberries are very cool.. i wonder if the storm will actually make its mark in our world...
what do you guys think???
P.S. please no negativity or attacks thank you..
If one comes out for AT&T, I do plan on getting one from work and testing it out.
the wm much better

I would get a Storm but not transfer to Verizon from AT&T for testing and messing around. I just sold my Bold and it was a lot better in my opinion then the other Blackberry models. I really liked the bold but didn't stick around because of the limited applications and customization. In addition, it lacks a full email client, BIS just doesn't cut it for me for personal usage and I really don't like how it handled email even with BES. I also had an iPhone and iPhone 3G and after jailbreaking it wasn't to bad and I liked it, I still believe its touch screen is the best out there. All three device types are for three different type of people and although I like to play with a Blackberry I don't see myself switching.
Blackberry Storm Comment
I got a Storm 2 weeks ago and I'm VERY happy with it.
Automatic actualizing of important System-Progs, all Business Progs I need, also a quick and safe handling.
I'm only missing a Navi-Prog for install complete like IGO.

New Live messenger from X1

If I had the cash and if I didn't love my iPhone so much, I'd be very tempted to get me the X1 (short for Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1). Like I said when it was first announced, it seems to be the ultimate Messenger phone:

a slide-out keyboard, Windows Mobile 6.1 with its almost perfect mobile version of Windows Live Messenger... and so damn slick-looking.
Earlier this month a special Windows Live panel was released which syncs your Windows Live contacts and those in your X1's phonebook, and provides access to Hotmail, Windows Live Messenger and a voice-activated/controlled Windows Live Search. More Windows Live services will be added to the panel later on.
>> Download the Windows Live Panel for free from SonyEricsson Fun or directly to your Xperia by going to www.sonyericsson.com/fun.
Note: The X1 was released to limited markets only. Look here for worldwide release dates.

Does someone has the cab file for this messenger.
That seems pretty interesting
I don't think it'll do you anything good, since the X1 is a PPC and not a smartphone!

ported to raphael
not to artemis yet though
There's an interesting concept that I saw in this video that I have been thinking about myself lately on how to develop as a Today plugin.
For a future home/main screen I was imagining a Today screen that is more similar to a PC's desktop. You could have multiple objects open, sitting on the desktop. You would see this from an "eagle-eye's" view so everything is too small to use but big enough to identify which application the object represents. Then you would use an on-screen magnification device to "glide" over the "desktop" and enlarge objects in order to see them or launch them.
I see that this video of WM6.5 and other concept videos of WM7 strive to implement this technology primarily because hardware is able to handle more and more graphically heavy interfaces.
I might try my hand at some development concepts as soon as I free up some time from school and work... But this is a rough artistic render I put together.

Cool... Everything look exactly the same:
- small selector buttons, tabs and start menu!
- Besides the finger scrolling, nothing new at all(??)
What's microsoft doing all the time? Sure as hell they're not improving a lot?
Microsoft is splitting off development time into finishing up 6.5, and rewriting WM7. Windows Mobile 6.5 will not be much different that what we've seen so far... Windows Mobile 7 will.
its to bad microsoft is laying people off (economy)... lets hope that doesn't effect there release date on this (not like they have ever been on time anyways)

What mobile platform are you most interested in programming for? @ O'Reilly'

Interesting poll in O'Reilly' - I'd say, the results are expected:
What mobile platform are you most interested in programming for?
Which OS do you vote for?
I've voted for Windows Mobile, but as I can see Android and iPhone is winning:

Android is growing fast and also iPhone is already the favorite phone of the average user. I hope the situation will change when Microsoft releases Windows Mobile 7. Considering the legions of experienced developers here at XDA, I believe Microsoft still has the odds to turn the things upside-down.
Of course, not everyone that use WinMo phone will give its vote for this OS - I hope everyone will vote fairly.
Palm OS is still going down!
I like much more Palm OS than any other OS
Android is on the move big time; 2010 should be a big year for it's OS!
How about Web OS?
@nathanpc: I don't have any experience with Web OS. I haven't heard much of it. I chose Windows Mobile since the platform is very popular and there are numerous of great applications available.
Needless to say my favorite is Windows Mobile but I also like Android although it is not as fast as I hoped.
I will never buy Symbian/iPhone - both are fast, but I don't like them at all. I had a Symbian phone a while ago and I have to admit it is fast - but this is its only advantage.
I don't have much experience with Maemo so far - but from what i've seen - it is fast and sleek. It is too early for an opinion.
P.S: I noticed WinMo gained some momentum - 9% (25 votes) so far!
Cheers
