Okay I had to repost this. Ages ago when I first got my HTC Touch (Vogue) and finally got the 6.1 upgrade from telus there was a ton of hurdles to get over to get the GPS working...
That said.. my Vogue gets a lock literally within seconds each and every time. It's a pain to go to the touch pro (ATT FUZE) which takes minutes.. if it even gets a lock at all in tomtom. I'm just wondering if a similar fix that was used for the Vogue could be applied to the fuze..
I'll list the process below and let me know what you guys think.

This process is a bit.. not tedious or anything but just safty's sale for a good read look at the thread linked below for a guide to getting the QPST program working.. how to get it to connect to your phone etc. Side note.. You have to install the WModem drivers on your computer in order for it to connect properly and you'll need to install the GetSPC program on your phone in order to get the service programming code. That said.. you also need to download the QPST program (obviously). All of which (including the guide) here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=TitanGpsFix
You'll need to run the GetSPC program on your phone. when you open QPST and you add the COM4 port and you open the service programming it should say your ESN HEX at the top put that code into GETSPC (again GETSPC runs on your phone) and then it will generate your SPC..in the service programming click read from phone and enter the SPC it generated for your and it should work. Thats the code you need to get access into the phone via QPST.
Now follow that in order to connect to the program and go pretty much to where you have to put in all that information ghettofreeryder gave us. Make sure you redial the ##3424 code to get out of the settings in your phone.
Then once that's done. Download a1Jatts smartgps cab which will activate the smartgps in the registry of the phone. Do a soft reset and you are good to go. Make sure you put in ALL the right information. I forgot to put in an 8 in the PDE Port Number at first so I had 889 not 8889. I didnt get any quicker locks so checked and put in the right number and worked like a charm. I got locks on 6-7 satellites in my basement with a few seconds.

Now obviously the IP address wont be the same as thats the IP for Telus.. but .. I mean come on.. my phone literally gets a lock in seconds even indoors! So this has to some how be able to help us out with the touch pro! If it cant maybe some variation of this method can.
okay so we're up to almost 300 views and not a single responce.... I take it that means no one really has any idea's if this would work or not. I'd give it a shot myself but I have my wedding in 5 days so I dont really have time to mess around with this.. maybe after though!
to my mind the 300 views are because of the title of your thread. most people searching for a solution for the gps problem do it because of the lag. fixing satellites is as fast as with my kaiser. the only problem is the lag.
i´m sure you would get a quick fix when you disable agps and use quickgps.

I have agps disabled and update quickgps religiously, but I'm not sure how much quickgps really helps. When I've been using the gps regularly, I get locks (in TomTom) in under a minute. If I haven't used the gps in a few days, even with a fresh quickgps update, the satellite screen shows the position of 6-9 satellites, but the gps still takes 10 minutes or more to start reporting data and secure a fix.

GPS Issues
I have similar problems on my AT&T Fuze. On the first run of google maps or Pocket CoPilot it works great with a lock on of usually 1 min.
But if I need to shutdown the app for any reason and restart it, then the software will say, GPS not found, then GPS found looking for signal, then go back to GPS not found and keep cycling like this.
What usually fixes this is a soft reboot. I certainly hope a patch can fix this.
It is a pain, especially when my Tilt did not do this.

TURBO GPS fix on Touch Pro
(contrary to many of the GPS fixes offered on the net)
I read a lot of fixes on how to make the Touch Pro lock on to GPS faster. Being an ex-owner of toshiba G810, which is the fastest GPS PPC i tried ever before, and noting that it uses the same GPS chip as in the Touch Pro. I tried to emulate the settings in the registry, and i got an excellent result, so would like to share that with you.
1) Many of the fixes on the net talk about turning off the A-GPS , i think this is "wrong" thing, cos when A-GPS is turned off, it would not be able to use the valuable satellite data downloaded from QuickGPS. Therefore, i use Advanced Configuration Tool to turn it back on (ENABLED).
2) I changed the HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver\Drivers\GpsOneDevice\PollInterval -> 500 (default is 1000),
which is the same figure as in my Toshiba G810 before.
3) keep the log files untouched, i.e., DO NOT delete:
\windows\GPSLogFile.txt and \windows\GPSLogFileBack.txt
(if you have deleted those 2 files before, just create 2 blank .txt files with those filenames and put them back in \windows. When new GPS data comes in, it will append to the blank files, older data get deleted once reached the 32K limit set below.)
4) keep maximum size of logfile to the default which is 32K
Voila, now my Touch Pro always get 4 to 5 BLUE bars on my mapking (which mean dead lock on!!!) And it it wont fluctutate lock on and off intermittently.
Really urge you to try it, and let me know if you get the same results~~

Please write back to see if it works welll for you. And make sure you use QuickGPS once afterwards to get the satellite data before you start GPS.
I don't have any kind of data connection with my network so AGPS is useless for me, however I did try changing the polling from 1000 to 500 and I managed to get a lock with GPS test within a few minutes inside my own house! Can't remember getting the same results before.
I can only agree that
1 - touching log files is BAD.
2 - reducing poll interval will improve the GPS lag slightly
3 - keeping A-GPS up - in my country there is no A-GPS data available since thats the data provided by the provider over the local network cells. I dont think it has anything to do with the data from Quick GPS. But i might be wrong. Anyway, Quick GPS is your friend.
4 - if you have fix problems its usually either not having Quick gps data or trying to get a fix in a bad area or under a shielded windscreen.

Actually I was hoping to reduce the delay of map in garmin or oziexplorer (which are my favourites) in higher driving speeds. I tried garmin while driving over 200 km/h and there was a damn nasty delay on the map. Of course it was a stupid risk to watch the screen during these speeds
I tried 1000 (default), 250, 125, and 64 Pollinginterval and none of them were as fast as 500.
well it would be slower because you are polling to often then. best thing to do for your gps speed is update your radio to 1.12.25.19. it doesnt take long to do. then make sure agps is enabled and update your quickgps data. increasing polling from 1000 to 500 might help but i havent tried yet.

Thanks for your testing.
It seems that Toshiba G810 polling setting (i.e. 500) really works for a lot of us.
I was originally so amazed at how G810 could do it, and was so sad to see how bad my Touch Pro (which costs twice compared to the G810) is performing.
I'm glad at least now i can make my Touch Pro just as fast.

I have not had issues with mine with warm or hot starts (most was 30 seconds). What I need to know is from a cold start, how long it takes to perform a fix (you can verify using the HTC GPS tool).
To do a cold start, reset the unit with the button near the USB connector or if you have StartXP, use that.
I think wildboy did do a soft reset, it's kind of standard on XDA.

Without AGPS? Or is quickGPS similar... can't remember I forget now
agps needs to be enabled for quickgps. agps hindered gps on older radios. the newest radio works really well with agps and quickgps.

I kinda figured as much, but I just want to be sure. Mainly because with my current settings I am getting the same performance, except when I have a cold start. I am trying to figure out a way to get better cold start performance.

Will those/can those files be generated by a program other then quick gps or visualgpsce?

Just install AdvancedConfig, this will allow you to edit the buffer size of the log files and verify their are log files in that ROM. Then you just need a Registry Editor to adjust the polling time.
Pretty strange but I haven't modified mine at all and it locks on in about 10-15 seconds which I think is pretty good, or isn't it?

Sorry, slight miscommunication..
I'm using EnergyROM 2, and i'm familiar with Adv. Config & Registry editing..
Default setting was no logging, and I can't point adv. config to the log file that doesn't exist.
If i just make ablank log/text file, and point it, will that work? Or do the log files need to have certain information in them in order to not screw up?
I am currently following a few websites to keep my news upto date with my ATT fuze. I have tried just about every single possible solution to get my GPS to work. Disabled aGPS, tried GPSTest, flashed various ROMs, tried various GPS programs, change poll interval to 500 ms, etc, etc.
I have owned this phone for 4 months now and I have yet to get a satellite lock to work. The closest I ever got was GPTtest running showing 6-7 different satellites in view, trying to connect to about 3 of them. I left that running for nearly 2 hours, and no luck. Whats the deal?
Please do not tell me to use the search function because I have searched XDA as well as google, and they all end up in the same place of speculation on why the GPS might not be working, but none of the said methods actually make it work.
It works man. I ran 6.5 beta with Google Maps installed. Took me to a location I've never been to and back.
xgm541, before using AGPS, do you have the right gprs settings for your phone? Have you confirmed that your gprs works?

Also, make sure you flash your radio if possible. Read up on the radio thread and i am sure other ATT users have posted the performance of GPS based on the Radio.
I am not an ATT user, as i am from Malaysia. So i am unable to help you on the AGPS part.
I second arvin's suggestion on flashing a radio. If you're in the US, I highly recommend 1.12.25.19, I have AGPS and GPS logging disabled, use GPS Test and always get a cold fix in less than a minute outdoors.
yeah ive got no issues with it, used it last weekend in the car and worked perfectly.
GPS definitely works. Flash the latest leaked AT&T rom, and just try it out. Don't flash cooked ROMs but the stock leaked ROM. If GPS doesn't work in that ROM then something is wrong with your particular phone. I'm in California and I get locks in under 7 seconds, and I'm using wm 6.5
GPS is about all that im unhappy with, on my fuze.
It does work, i placed a 3 stage multicache using only my fuze with googlemaps/GCz last week and everyone whos found the cache say my coords. were almost dead on. (coords were an average of around 20 readings at each site)
My trick (doesnt work fast but it works) is to turn on gmaps let it sit there for
1 min while it gets a lock, then switch to my gps (geocache) program and i have nps. I cannot get any other programs to lock or hold the gps without first running the googlemaps program. And everyonce inwhile as soon as i turn it on ill lock up 10 birds. Doesnt make much sense, and i too have played with all i could find (agps,baud,comport, windows settings etc)

I am using the standard HTC-ROM. All of these settings have been extensively tested in Europe the Netherlands. These are really the optimal, after testing many buffersizes, pollintervals etc. The most crucial one is PollInterval and SleepOnNodata needs to be equal or larger than PollInterval. Disabling or enabling windows GPS logging does not matter, as it is only used for debugging according to MSDN. If you start using AGPS (I Don't!) then make sure all settings are correct to download the info from your provider (mine does not support this and thus it is turned off in these settings).
0) Assuming that the hardware is still OK do the following:
1) Go to settings > System > external GPS.
Check if all options are still normal.
Program port is COM4.
Hardware port : none.
Baudrate : 4800.
Access: Check automated GPS control.
NOTE that an external connected GPS (e.g. Bluetooth device) unit will have a baudrate of 4800. The internal which resides at Com4 has a standard baudrate of 57600. These settings need to be checked to make sure they are still this way and it will also give Windows automated control of the GPS system.
2) You need to install Advanced Config 3.3.

With Advanced config 3.3 under GPS:
1. disable A-GPS
2. disable GPS logging
3. logfile name must be empty
4. old logfile name must be empty
5. maximum size of logfile must be 0
6 delete the files : \windows\GPSLogFile.txt and \windows\GPSLogFileBack.txt
After these settings the tool will soft-reset your mobile.
3) Then edit registry with TotalCommander

- Multiplexer\MaxBufferSize -> 512 (by default not present, you have to create it, make a Dword value)
After these settings are in place, restart / soft reset your device.
4) Run the program QuickGPSfix and download the new data.
This step needs to be repeated anytime it is outdated.
5) Download and install the HTC GPS Tool.

Upon starting it should show COM4 and a Baudrate of 57600.
Go outside the house, preferably with good weather.
Hit the "Open"
Hit the "Nav. Int."
Leave all as is, no need to change the options.
You should now start to see the GPS data flow over your screen in the grey area. Wait patiently, the first fix can take up to 10 minutes (afterwards it wil go faster). If it fails it sometimes seems to help to move around a little bit and to reboot your device if it takes way to long (+10 mins).
See if you have any red bars below the satellite numbers (signal strength per satellite) When you get a fix, the bars and satellites to which it is connected will show up green. If there are no red bars here, no data flow etc then there is something wrong with the ROM / radio combination and your phone.
Close this program if you have a fix.
6) Start-up Google maps. Wait for it to download the basic map information, so you don't have any interference from the "now downloading data" message. Then start the GPS use. Fix should now go fast. Once it has a fix you can start moving towards your destiny.
From now on use HTC GPS tool to get a fix.
Close this program, start the program with which you want to use GPS.

I'm using the ATT test ROM and google maps with street view.
Works better than any phone I've ever owned when the test ROM or a derivative is running the show. Matching radio must be used. I've tested the Ralphael 1.12.25.19 (shipped with test ROM) and the Blackstone 1.13.25.24 so far.
Messed around a bit more and got instant 10 sats after changing to
baud rate of 9600 on com4... i guess the windows management of the gps is most of the problem (?).
I had the same exact problem as you. I couldn't get a lock no matter what I tried, I was thinking of going back to the Kaiser. I then decided to change my radio from the .32 to the 1.12, left GPS Test running for about 30 minutes, still no lock.
I was standing on the balcony of my apartment....
Then..... when I got into my car I tried again and I got a lock in under 30 seconds..
Not to insult your intelligence by any means. BUT, are you outside in the open?? Because once you have set those settings that everyone here has asked you to do. It should work.

Change the stock radio. I believe this to be the main culprit. 1.12 works good. then set your standard GPS settings to Baud 96**** and to COM 4. Run GPS test in the open, outside.

I get a lock in under 1 - 2 minutes every time. However, I am having a problem with the speed of the GPS. I use TomTom 6 and sometimes my triangle cursor wiggles oscillating from left to right. I don't know why. and also sometimes it is delayed.
I have yet to find a fix for this, I would be glad if someone can please help. I'm not sure if this is a video problem or a GPS problem.
Worked Both Ways
I've had my Fuze since just before ATT released them, and the GPS worked fine for me, once I could get a signal, obviously a big issue. I followed all of the GPSidfix cab etc and they helped, had to load GPS Test to prime, once it got a full lock and said running I could use Google, TomTom 6 or Livesearch and get instant locks.
I don't flash ROMs, but finally broke down and put the ATT Leaked Rom on my Fuze, and bammmmmm. GPS is almost instant in every single one of those applications, we're talking 2 or 3 seconds when I'm outside. I get locks in my house when I'm by the windows as well.
I haven't driven today, so I can't speak to lag etc or other issues, but once I knew the lag it never bothered me that much. Overall, the new ATT Leaked ROM has been awesome for GPS.

I can second or third... that.
Firstly, I don't mean to invalidate any previous comments, posts or fixes, or insult anyone's intelligence. I just merely report my VERY UNSCIENTIFIC findings.
I've had my ATT Fuze (HTC Touch Pro) for about 3 months now, and I've tested various GPS apps in the quest of finding out whether the hardware is the one to blame for the GPS POSITION LAG. I'd like to share my personal findings so that it may help others.
The ONLY GPS application that I can say that come very close to NOT having GPS POSITION LAG is Mobile Navigator 7.3.1 (build 137). On top of that, this version of Mobile Navigator is the only one so far to be ALMOST right on when the destination is reached. Other applications that I've tried always show the destination is 2 or 3 houses down the street.
The following applications I've tested all have position lag: one previous version of MN7, IGo8, TomTom 7, iGuidance, Garmin XT, and NDrive.
Did I use the registry tweak as suggested in previous post and did it resolve the lag?
Yes, I did try the tweak. But personally, I don't think it solved the problem.
Did I change to different ROM or Radio?
No. Everything on the phone is stock ATT Fuze.
So, is the hardware or HTC the one to blame for the lag?
Sorry! YOU have to come to the conclusion on this one.
I have a related problem, with the GPS device freezing (?) at high speed. I drove recently in Germany, and up to 120km/h my navigator (HTC-TP + Destinator 7) worked fine. When I drove faster it just stopped tracking, and resumed when I slowed down below 120km/h resumed.
Anyone experienced that or has an idea how to fix it?

TomTom7 also isnt working perfectly for me. It seems to be about 3-5 seconds too slow. It shows me at the street after I have already passed it. I made the registry setting changes that were posted earlier and will test the lag this afternoon ( it may be the Polling Interval being set to 1000 vs 100 i hope. I will report back to say if it has helped
First of all, i apologise for the "catchy" title.
For this past week, i have been flashing my TP, with various firmwares / radios etc. However, i decided to go with the new stock ROM released by HTC,

But i am sure this will work even for users of different ROMS.
Anyway, with this and alot of other ROMS, i faced this issue. Poor GPS reception. Mind you, AGPS is not included in the Asian version of the ROM, since we don't use it , and most probably AGPS uses data connection, which is quite expensive here. Anyway, even after tweaking the registry (followed one of the great threads here), the GPS was horrible. After updating the quickgps, i took my phone, and placed it beside my window. About 10 ~ 15 minutes later, it had fixed it self to a few sattelites. 10 ~ 15 minutes is alittle bit too long for me.
When i took it outside (after re-starting the phone) it still took about 10 minutes to get a signal. Later on, it becomes even harder to fix to sattelites after a few reboots. I don't know what the problem was.
I read around the forums and there was a thread about the RADIO, 1.12.25.19. People were saying how good it was for the battery life of the phone and especially GPS. Some even claimed to have gotten a GPS fix within 10 seconds, and some could even get gps singnals indoors. I flashed my RADIO to ver 1.12.25.19 and there still wasn't much changes on the GPS part.
Today morning, i decided to hard reset my phone and then play around a little and to my amazement i found a gem. So here is what i did.
After hard resetting my phone, i didn't install apps. I didn't apply any registry fix for the gps. Everything was in it's original state. I installed Msoft .net CF 3.5 . This is because it is required to run an app, GPSTOOLPRO.exe , so it could hunt for this sattelites. An alternative to GPSTEST, but i like this better.
So here is what i Did. **my quickgps isn't updated**
I went to
Start > Settings > System [TAB] > External GPS
GPS program port, I set it to (NONE). Then i pressed ok.
Then i clicked on External GPS again.
This time my GPS Program Port value is (NONE) and i went to the Hardware Tab.
GPS Hardware Port, you can put in any value you like. Mine was COM4 and the BAUD RATE is 115200.
Somehow once you press Ok, and you come back to the same menu, You will see that your GPS hardware Port is set to NONE, and your BAUD RATE is it's default.
I am not sure if i am the only one facing this issue , but it's no problem
After setting up the GPS hardware port and the BAUD RATE as above, Do not close the menu. Also Make sure , [Manage GPS automatically] from the Access Tab is enabled.
From here, Do not press ok. Let the menu remain and run in the background. Then i went on the start bar, went to file explorer and ran my app, GPSTOOLPRO.exe to search for sattelites and get a fix.
The Result= I could get satelite signal about 12 of them almost immediately & fix in less than a minute. I could also get a fix indoors where previously i couldn't. The GPS certainly has improved.
Do take note, I tried using gpstest but it was unable to detect the port. So i suggest searching for "GPSTOOLPRO" around XDA and use that instead.

Anyway, even after tweaking the registry (followed one of the great threads here), the GPS was horrible. After updating the quickgps, i took my phone, and placed it beside my window. About 10 ~ 15 minutes later, it had fixed it self to a few sattelites. 10 ~ 15 minutes is alittle bit too long for me.
When i took it outside (after re-starting the phone) it still took about 10 minutes to get a signal. Later on, it becomes even harder to fix to sattelites after a few reboots. I don't know what the problem was.
I read around the forums and there was a thread about the RADIO, 1.12.25.19. People were saying how good it was for the battery life of the phone and especially GPS. Some even claimed to have gotten a GPS fix within 10 seconds, and some could even get gps singnals indoors. I flashed my RADIO to ver 1.12.25.19 and there still wasn't much changes on the GPS part.
Today morning, i decided to hard reset my phone and then play around a little and to my amazement i found a gem. So here is what i did.
After hard resetting my phone, i didn't install apps. I didn't apply any registry
fix for the gps. Everything was in it's original state. I installed Msoft .net CF 3.5 . This is because it is required to run an app, GPSTOOLPRO.exe , so it could hunt for this sattelites. An alternative to GPSTEST, but i like this better.
So here is what i Did. **my quickgps isn't updated**
I went to
Start > Settings > System [TAB] > External GPS
GPS program port, I set it to (NONE). Then i pressed ok.
Then i clicked on External GPS again.
This time my GPS Program Port value is (NONE) and i went to the Hardware Tab.

sadly for me, this doesn't seem to work. i hard reset yesterday and am running on a bloat-free fuze stock rom and radio. I installed google maps, att navigator (only way i can EVER get a fix after 5 minutes), and CF 3.5. Trying this now standing inside my bay window facing the a river with lots of open sky and i'm not getting anything
i read the thread this morning about teh .19 radio and i can't wait to try it out this weekend!

I would try the leaked AT&T 1.12.25.19 radio. It supposedly opens up more slots for sats than the previous radios, which should help getting a fix.
Also which stock ROM are you using? The one it was shipped with or the leaked one? I would upgrade to the leaked AT&T one because it enabled aGPS, which works wonders in getting a fix.

If you don't have a data connection (too expensive) then how can you be using QuickGPS?
If you do have a data connection then I highly recommend upgrading your rom to a 5.08.502.1 derivative along with keeping the raphael radio you just tried then changing your settings to the public AGPS servers described in Da_G's AGPS thread in the Raphael ROM forum.
this probably doesn't help any, but I have a TP that is about a week old, flashed with mighty rom, radio 1.03.15, and I can sit in my living room, two windows completely covered, and I can get 9 satellites to lock in under 5 seconds. This works in google maps, igo8, really any gps program. I do not use quickgps (I think that is what it is called) or anything else. mine has worked great from the day I brought it home. I have only tried a couple of radios and all worked fine with gps. I am wondering if the newer ones are "better" on gps?

After updating from ICS to JellyBean, my gps cannot find or lock onto any satellites.
If I enable wifi, its accurate to 20meters.. If not, it won't lock even after 15 minutes.
Any help is greatly appreciated-
mine has been similar in PA2.00 and CM10.
It actually will lock after a long time. Sometimes up to 30 minutes.
Interested in any answers... I noticed in the gps.conf file agps appears to be off. I don't know if that is the issue.
Unfortunately searching for a fix just reveals too much information with a lot of supposed fixes, but no consensus so far as i can tell.

Actually agps was turned off to improve lock times...some people noticed no difference with it off, others noticed huge improvements with half the lock time
You can change it to true, then wipe cache and dalvic cache in recovery and see if it makes a difference

It seems like a lot of people are having problems with GPS in jellybean, and some aren't. There's so many 'this worked for me' solutions, but I'm starting to think it's coincidence.
Someone mentioned installing and running copilot once. Did that. it didn't work. Without root permissions what could it really change to improve anything?
I ran Faster Fix. It edited my gps.conf file (which it doesn't tell you that it does) It didn't help. it might have made it slightly worse.
I found a few other gps.conf files for jellybean ROMs, but haven't tried those yet.
This is how we learn and share our info, by trying. Just make a back up of anything that you want to change or replace.
GPS works perfect on my PA Jelly Beaned Infuse. First I ran GPS Test, it took a good twenty minutes if not more for it's first lock.
But now, I get a lock in a few seconds.
GPS Test, is free in the market.

GPS Test has kicked my GPS in the butt and got it working with almost every ROM I've flashed. Once you get over that first delay (downloading satellite data?) the first time you run it, it locks on fairly well afterward. At least, that's been my experience

I've already done that. It helped the next time I ran maps. When i left work yesterday I had maps give me turn by turn directions home. It took a couple minutes to lock, but after that it was working.
Then this morning I tried again. It wouldn't lock at all on the way in to work this morning. (only a 15 minute drive)
I also tried editing my GPS conf file this morning. I tried using ES file explorer, root explorer, and flashing. All three resulted in an empty file. ES says it was successful. Root explorer gives an error message 'there was not enough free disk space to complete the paste operation'
Flashing says it was successful, but again, it ends with an empty file. 0 bytes.

With the gps.conf file I'm going to go leave the phone out in my car with gps on and see if it locks.
I understand that developers do a lot of work on this. I'm not trying to be a jerk. I just see a lot of people having the same issue and no agreement on a solution or even what the actual problem is.

I believe this is because there is no solution. If you want to try to help solve the problem, "adb shell" in and start tinkering.
You'll quickly find that GPS is anything but an easy thing to fix. A good SUPL provider for you may be completely different for others.

that app run... :45 minutes later it locked (GPS icon on Status Bar stopped blinking and showed locked, solid) with 7 satellites.
waited, rebooted the phone, and it locked in about 3 minutes.

Now that is an actual answer.
I suppose part of the problem for us noobs sorting through 300 page threads is all the filler with people saying "great rom omgz so awesome" even when they are posting on the first page and the ROM hasn't even been up long enough to do much more than flash it and swipe through the home screen.
All through out the CM10 and PA threads there are people saying GPS is working flawlessly... and then other people saying they have some fix. I guess people aren't supposed to post frivolous stuff in the dev threads, but they do.
Anyway, I ended up going back to GB as GPS is something I really need.
Hey guy's, i've also been having allot of issues with GPS just not being what it used to be, and it's pretty obvioius that this is an issue across the board for all JellyBean roms. I think those who mention that "GPS works flawlessly" don't quite understand the issue with AGPS (Assisted GPS), or they are not quite testing it thoroughly enough to see the problem.

That being said, i have been doing allot of digging in the hopes that someone out there has a solution to the problem with AGPS on the CM10 based ROMs on our phone.
To clarify the problem: AGPS does not seem to work and Initial lock times from a cold start can take several minutes, (this is not normal if AGPS is doing it's job). To clarify further, no one is saying that GPS does not work, it does in fact work, it just takes it's sweet time to lock and it seems to rely on pure GPS to download ephemeris data from the actual GPS birds for satelite lock acquisition, rather then downloading AGPS data over the network to speed things up. After the initial lock though, GPS functions as it should. After this point, if you do not use the phone again for several day's, it seems that upon first firing it up again you will experience the long delay in first lock. This is especially true if you keep GPS services turned off ussually to conserve battery. Those who report GPS is fine are probably keeping GPS services on all the time, and your GPS is probably working in the background at times and obviously will start up allot faster then it would from a cold start. (This is where i believe all the conflicting info comes from!)
The only info i have been able to find that did actually have an impact on my lock times was the thread below.

I just started testing this out yesterday and i have seen some positive results. But i would caution those of you out there, and say that this is probably not a "fix" per se, but it did help cut down lock times in my case and at the very least it is a very inoformative thread that everyone should read.
What i have realisticly been able to achieve from a cold start is about 75 seconds to lock at the fastest. i.e. GPS services were off, i turned them all on, and now i started up GPS Status or GPS Test to get a lock. After that, as long as I haven't rebooted my phone it takes only a few seconds to lock.
How i tested, i started GPS Status, I then went to Tools --> MANAGE A-GPS STATE -> RESET (This is important to ensure you are clearing previously cached data. We want to make sure your previous cached info does not skew the effects of your changes.
I then replaced the gps.conf with the one contained in that thread, and i also made the change that was suggested in the Notes section that suggested modifying or adding a line in your build.prop file to "ro.ril.def.agps.mode = 1". This change set's your gps to use AGPS in Mobile Station Based (MSB) mode. For reference, setting it to "2" would set your AGPS to function to Mobile Station Assisted (MSA) mode. (Mode 1 - gave me more accurate initial locks at the expense of a bit longer lock times, Mode 2 gave me slightly quicker initial lock times, but was rather flaky and my position drifted quite a bit until GPS was running for quite some time.)

After making the changes to gps.conf and build.prop i rebooted my phone. When phone reboots, i then go back into GPS Status app, select settings, Tools --> MANAGE A-GPS STATE -> RESET, and then back to settings, Tools --> MANAGE A-GPS STATE -> DOWNLOAD (This should force the phone to attempt an AGPS download, if it hasn't already done so upon launching the app).
I have seen this same gps.conf being used in the newer RemICS-JB build. However based on the lack of feedback in that thread, i don't know if this is the golden fix we have all been looking for.
Even though this may not fix all your issues, i hope at the very least it helps clear up what the actual problem is, and how AGPS is supposed to work.
** Important Notes: **
- The version of the config that i was using was the Download the Google Specific No-SSL v3.1
- If you use the SSL version, then it will also require that you download the certifcate file. It's best to just stick with NO SSL as is explained in the thread.
- You should also note that i have cleaned out all the live wall papers, face unlock, and allot of other crap that i don't use to free up space in the /SYSTEM partition. I now have aproximately 21MB free in this partition. I think at least part of the problem with certain ROM's is that they have the /SYSTEM partition filled to the max with virtually no free space at all. I'm no expert on the subject, but i'm guessing that the AGPS data get's downloaded to this partition some where. Obviously if there is no space, then that would cause issues. Several others have reported shortened initial lock times after making room in the /SYSTEM partition.
- Another mistake people are making when testing AGPS and reporting false info, is having their WIFI on when testing GPS. To isolate the issue guy's you need have wifi off and you need to use a tool like GPS Status or GPS Test that shows that actual lock to satelites. You cannot properly test this and see the issue by using WIFI and turning on Google maps. Google maps will look at your reported wifi position and to you it looks like bamm.. i just got a lock in 2 seconds to withing 50 meters, wow these guy's are nut's, my GPS is awesome. Guess what.. your wifi and google maps is awesome.. not your GPS.. lol
- If anyone is familiar with running log's, it would be great if you could do a comparison of before and after. Showing the log of a completely fresh JB build, that shows that the AGPS data is not being downloaded, and then another log after all the changes above (including freeing up space in /SYSTEM) and hopefully it will show that AGPS data is now being downloaded and utilized. I myself am not familiar with logging data on the infuse, so i cannot and will not call this a fix until someone can actually show with real log's that AGPS data is now being utilized after these mods.
Thankfully, I'm one of the lucky ones who have always had a working GPS. It worked great when I was running AT&T stock Froyo, really good while I was on XDA GB roms, and fair > good after I went to PA JB. By far Scott's latest release of PA JB has been the best in this respect, but I can't help but tinker now that I've turned into a Droid zombie Strictly speaking the stock GPS configuration included on Scott's PA JB ROM worked charmingly, but I still had an issue whenever the phone went into deep sleep (say overnight without using it) the GPS lock the next morning took almost as much time coming from a sleep state as a cold boot. So, Like DaMeatMan I decided to give http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1881655 a go. I chose the flashable option, and like DMM also edited the prop file. I picked the Google "no SSL" version 3.1 instead of the AT&T specific version. I figured I would give that one a try.
I'll keep everyone posted, buy my first impression (could be placebo effect) is that this configuration file and modification actually does improve over the original PA JB configuration by a small margin. Reported accuracy is better (by 10ft on average). Satellites in view and actually locking are 1-2 better than before. My main hope is that I can actually fire up Navigation in the morning and get working directions without having to fire up GPS Test first and relock all the NA satellites. I travel a lot, both for business and outdoor sports (hunting and fishing), and I have come to rely pretty heavily on GPS. I got spoiled when I got my first GPS capable phone because that meant I could leave my handheld GPS at home most of the time and that was one less thing I had to carry.

I have been have many of the same problems as others in this thread but I tried the fix in the S3 thread quoted above and it seems to have helped for right now. The first time I ran GPS Test after rebooting it did take a while (5-8min), but after that I get a lock in few seconds. I used the Google "no SSL" package also. I will do some more testing tomorrow and see if its reliable.
