Since a few days I have this weird dialer problem. Normally when I look up a name in de dialer and I scroll down the list, the dialer always shows the number of that contact. This function suddenly disappeared.
when I type for example 323 I would get a matching list of contacts. When I scroll down that lis, 323 would stay in the upper bar instead of displaying the corresponding number of that particular contact.
Does anyone have a solution for this?

Hi,
Assumming you have multiple numbers assinged to a contact, (home, work mobile etc...) can anyone tell me how to set/change the default number used for a contact in the HTC touch Cruise (Polaris)?
Also, according to the manual when using the TouchFlow Cube to dial a contact there's supposed to be an icon in the top left corner of each contact to tell me which number is currently the default - this isn't appearing in mine. No biggie, just wondering if anyone has it.
Thanks!
Open Contacts, highlight the contact in question and press left/right on the d-pad to cycle through all the numbers you have for them - the one displayed is the default.
exactly what I needed - thanks mate!
and just to answer my own second question!
In order to get the icons to appear in the top left corner of a contacts picture, you need to have added the same contact twice in touchflow. When you add a contact, you have to choose which number to assign. Add a contact twice using a different number and the icons appear to distinguish them.
Hi,
I have a little annoying problem. One of the contacts in the favourite list has the default action set to "Send Message" (I'm talking about the little icon just below the photo and name).
The problem is that all (but one) of my favourites have the default action set to Call Contact (the little earpiece icon) except this one.
I want to have every action set to "Call Contact" but I can't find any option where to change it.
It's the only phone number I have for this contact and it is filed under Mobile.
Can anyone help me with this?
scroll down to the contact, then press right or left
I think he is talking about the favourite contacts and not the contacts app. only way i know to do that is to delete the contact and then add them again and you will be able to choose between send message and call
The contacts app in KitKat displays huge letters in a box when there is no picture available for a contact.
I find this very annoying, and confusing.
How can I turn it off and get the old behaviour of showing an abstract puppet image?
My contact settings include photos in the phone app.
When those people call me their caller ID and number are shown on the incoming calling screen but not their photo.
I note that if I disable the default phone app and use a 3rd party app (True Phone), there is no caller screen at all, just ringing. Therefore, there is no way to answer the phone. So, the default phone app has to run and the incoming calling screen must be generated by that app. However, I cannot find the setting and of course I can't find any setting for including the photos.
Could someone please help me include the photos of contacts in the incoming calling screen?
Thanks
On my phone with Android 7.0, I can set a photo for a contact only if the contact info is saved in phone other than in SIM card.
After a contact photo has been set, the photo will be shown on the incoming calling screen.
I don't believe that I am using contacts from SIM but the phone.
But, how do I tell?
I can't find that setting either.
I am using Android V6.0.1 (Marshmallow).
Edit: Just noticed that a picture is indeed showing but it is so dark that I didn't notice it before. However, I also notice on the picture there is a word written saying "Unknown" in the middle of the picture. What does that mean?
Just updated the stock Phone app and the picture now shows correctly.
However, the sticking problem of the "Unknown" is still shown.
I have attached a screenshot of the phone's call screen showing the picture and the word "Unknown" in the middle". I have blurred the phone number and street name.
Hope this helps someone point me to find the cause of this.

If all your incoming calls are showing as unknown, contact your service provider and ask if there is a problem with your account (service?) as it may not be a problem in your phone.
But if only incoming calls from some particular contact are showing as unknown, contact this guy and ask if he/she has hidden his/her caller id in his/her phone settings.
For example, setting to turn off Caller ID on a Huawei P9 as below.
Open Phone app,
then tap Menu icon > Settings > Additional Settings > Caller ID > Hide Number
Be aware that the number is only hidden on Voice calls not on SMS/MMS.
I think I may have tracked down the problem.
It's not the account or service provider.
I use a 3rd party lock screen (Start). I didn't think about looking at this because the incoming caller screen is generated by the default google phone app. But, if I disable the Start lock screen and go to the default screen the incoming caller screen does not have the "Unknown" banner. Therefore, I believe that the Start lock screen intercepts the incoming caller screen and inserts the "Unknown" banner for some reason. I am unable to find any setting in Start to remove this so I have emailed the authors and now have to wait for their response.
While I am on the incoming caller screen, where can I find the settings for the incoming caller screen?
I am setting up a new Moto G7 Power (1955-2) running Android Pie. My current phone is an LG Stylo 3 with Android 8.
On the LG I made liberal use of the direct dial widget to have a page of one-touch dial icons for people I regularly called. The nice thing was that the DD widget icon shows 'Mobile", or, "Home", or, "Work" directly on the icon with the person's name as the label. That way, I could have multiple numbers for the same person side-by-side on the page and easily distinguish which icon to touch to dial. Works really well.
Now, on the Moto G7 Power with Android 9, the same direct dial widget icon process results in an icon that shows a handset object on the icon with no indication of which number is programmed. So, there is no way to tell the difference for mobile, home, and work DD widgets for the same person.
Any suggestions on how to get the same functionality on my new G7?
Your thoughts are greatly appreciated!

Can you specify which app exactly you use? I can't find "direct dial widget" ...
Go to a home page with some open space.
Press and hold. The screen will pop up with choices.
Select widgets.
Scroll down to Contacts. There should be at least three choices for contacts. Direct Message, Direct Dial, and, Contact.
Press and hold on Direct Dial. Drag it to an open spot on the page.
A list of contacts and their numbers will pop up. Chose one.
The widget will be on the home page.

yes, it got it - maybe the only fix of the problem is to have different names for each number for the contacts you want in the widget :>
Right now, the best solution I can find is to link to the complete contact record instead of a single number for that contact. So, instead of a quick, direct dial for a person, I touch the contact icon first, and then chose the telephone number I want to dial.
I wonder if changing to another launcher, like Nova Launcher, would give more options.....?
