I am looking for some help with "shortcuts" or ".lnk" files
I am using a HTC Tilt 8925 with WM6, but I think this may be a more universal issue.
I went into Windows > StartMenu and added several new folders, and then moved the .lnks formed from program installations into those folders.
For instance, folder "Refererence" now hold Dictionary, Lexipedia, Thesaurus, etc.
All was OK for a while, but then I started to get error messages about 2 application .lnks that I had moved into a subfolder. The funny thing is, the links actually work! It's just that randomly, I get a WM6 message that there is a problem with " Programs > XXX > AAA "
Does anyone know how to make a "new" link, to replace these old links? I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program and then moving those 2 .lnks, again, to the subfolder where I want it to be, but it happened again!
Thanks for any and all ideas!
PS: I have SK Tools installed; I thought there was a shortcut tool, but I cannot find it
Go into Program Files then whatever application you want the shorcut for. Copy the exe file then navigate to wherever you want the shortcut and paste shortcut. Rename the shorcut to whatever you want and the link is done!
Having said that if your shortcuts work sometimes but not others I cant see how it is a problem with the actual shortcut. You may need help here from someone more experienced than me.
After uninstalling some programs the folders remain in the menu's this is probably an extremely stupid question but i cant work out how to do it i assumed you would be able to create modify rename folders as much as you like much like you can with desktop windows but if you can i cant work it out. please could you help a noob to windows mobile.
Thanks
open a file explorer
go to /windows/start menu
look for the folders/links you wanted deleted...
Thank you I was looking in the wrong place i was just looking in programs, cheers!
my pleasure dude
Ok so I flash many roms. I love them all and can never find one that I want to keep...lol
I think we are all like this some times
well one thing I hate is when I load a fresh rom up everything is so clean in the programs folder. Then i load, on average, 2-3 games, and another 2-3 programs to the rom to top it off and make it my own. Then I go into the programs folder and everything is all clutter f.... well you know.
There are new folders every once in a while, and all the programs just sitting int he "PROGRAMS" folder. I want to be able to sort everything out and place the icon for each program into the correct folder in the PROGRAMS folder.
How do I do this? THanks
go into your my device section, then go into windows, then into startmenu. You'll have all of your folders and programs there. Move them around as you wish.
Hope that helps

no sorry didint
any other help?
Use a file manager -- Total Commander works good -- and browse to \Windows\Start Menu\Programs. From there you'll have all the shortcuts and you can create new folders and/or move the shortcuts as you see fit.
One thing I would recommend is using Sashimi. It has the ability to automate installation of applications and it also can move shortcuts so you don't have to do all this manually.
Hi all.
I want to make icons in the program folder for applications that aren't installed on the device, but run off of a memory card. For instance, I run putty from the memory card, as it is a standalone .exe file. It would be easier to go to programs and launch it from there, rather than go to a file explorer, direct it to the memory card, and then click on putty.exe. Just want to save myself some time really. I know it can be done because BackupPIM does it.
Thanks for any advice.
PS I tried searching first, but it was a fairly specific thing and so I couldn't see any results. If you find any, shame me for being a noob, and point me in the right direction.
Thanks!
you go to the exe file that you wan to place in the program menu... then copy it.... then go the program folder and paste it as short cut... I dont know whether this will helps you
Shortcuts are text files with a *.lnk extension that you can place in \Windows\Start Menu\Programs folder. RESCO Explorer can do this for you (Send to Start Menu as Shortcut) or you can do it manually as explained in the WIKI. Hope this helps.

Make sure if you do it by hand you do it plain text
Here is a tutorial.
Thanks guys that worked absolutely perfectly, just copying the file and pasting the shortcut. It's funny to think that you know so much about Windows Mobile, and then realise you don't know something so simple as this!
This will make a huge difference in my day to day life. It may even mean that my partner can now use TomTom (any more than clicking three buttons and she is annoyed, lol). This question and answer section was a great idea by someone, don't know why it didn't happen sooner.
Cheers! Keep up the good work.
Thanks
You guys are REALLY helping us noobs out allot. This worked like a charm.
One day we might have the "smarts" to do the same for others
By the way, I suggest you create a cab (you can use WinCECabManager) to have the *.lnk installed in your device so that everytime you flash a rom or hard reset you can just intall it.. I create a cab for all programs running from the storage card. one cab and i have all the shortcuts i need in my programs menu
Dear nir36
Can you explain that how we can create a cab of shortcuts the programs stored in mem card
Best regards
Get Quickcab 2.0 (hacking forum). It's pretty self explanatory to use, but when you make the cab, make sure in the name field that you name it 'mycabname.cab'. If you don't put in the extension, it doesn't work (at least not for me, lol).
The easiest way to set up the cab is to put quickcab in your c: folder, then inside that folder copy your start menu from your device. Delete all the links in the start menu you don't need, then just send the individual folders with the links into the \windows\start menu\programs directory shown in quickcab. Select 'no uninstall' so the cab doesn't go into the installed programs list. Having the named folders on your pc makes things much faster. You don't have to create the directory for the cab, and everything's organized properly. Do not create an empty folder in the cab file-this will give you an error, and a stupid command window will open, leaving you very disappointed.

The only way I know is to move them into a different folder. If you REALLY don't want them to show up, you could zip them up and delete the originals. They's about as good as I can suggest I'm afraid. Either that, or stop taking pictures of your girlfriend/gentials lol.
Too much porn on your phone, am I right guys?
Did u try to hide them with total commander or other file manager?

Changing the file attributes doesn't help. The album apps still show them. This is one of the things that bugged me when I made my "Hide Folders" app. It became a little pointless when certain applications didn't care about the "hidden" attribute.
Hi there
I use a Software named "Secubox". With this, i can create a virtual storage card which I can mount and unmount if i need it.
Its also encryptet, so the data stored there is secure and you have no access, if you don't have the password...
Works nice on my HD2, the only solution for this kind of data ;-)
else: put your pictures in a subfolder in Program Files... Album will show them only if you browse there....
Tip with the Program folder does it for me ! thank you!
Hi,photos in touchflo3D come by default from DCIM folder on your storage card . You can create a new folder called from example DCIM2 an put here photos that you don't want to see in the Touchflo3D .

That works for the very front of the GUI, but if you click on albums, you get to see the folders with images in them. I believe the above suggestion of putting your images in a program files sub-folder stops that happening.
Also, if you were to use the pictures & videos app, you can browse the folders all over the phone, so it's still not 100%. I think the suggestion of a secure, encrypted area is the most secure of the lot.
Either that or take my previous advice, and stop taking c**k shots lol.
Hi, I wrote the following script for my TP2 which did the trick. You need to have Mortscript installed.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=548841
Hide Photos
Not sure if this helps but what I do is :
I have on the SD card, a folder with all my data in called imaginatively Data.
In there I have Videos, Photos, Documents, and Hidden.
And pictures I don't want to be seen in Album, I put in the hidden folder.
Then in Total Commander :
Select the folder
Click File
Then >>>>>
Then Properties
This allows you to adjust the attributes.
Click Hidden, and click Recurse subdirs. (If you don't do the recurse, it will hide the folder but NOT the images within).
Then click OK.
Reverse the process when you want to get them back.
It's like 5 clicks to hide, and 5 to get them back.
No need to rename or anything, I found it works for me.
Hi,
create a new folder for private pictures and add to Album ignored list.
Example
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\HTCAlbum\Ignored]
"Maps from TomTom"="\\Storage Card\\Western*"
"TomTom"="\\Storage Card\\Navigator"
"Musik"="\\Storage Card\\Musik"
"MSMetaData"="\\Storage Card\\MSMetaData"
"Camera"="\\My Documents\\Templates"
"MMS"="\\My Documents\\UAContents"
[COLOR="Red"]"Private"="\\Storage Card\\Private Pictures"[/COLOR]
with friendly greet
starbase64
yep
the upper post doesn't work, but no doubt the easiest way to do it is posted up by jaknife with recurse subfolders hide method
Another solution.. in the thread [REF]*Leo Hints & Tips*, at the tip no 64:
"64. Disable Unwanted Folders From Showing in HTC Album
Don't you find it annoying that HTC Album Shows lots of images you don't need to see when you select Albums like GPS poi icons? Now you can tell HTC Album to ignore certain folders.
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/HTC/HTCAlbum/Ignored and add a NEW STRING VALUE
Eg if there is iGO8 in the root of the Storage Card you would create a NEW STRING VALUE with Value name iGO8 and Value Data \Storage Card\iGO8
This will include all subfolders inside the iGO8 folder. Save and reset."
works only in HTC Album, not manila interface
Hi,
Thanks to starbase64 and traianboala , I have tried the ignore string key, and works fine in albums program of HTC, but the images still appear on manila Photos & Videos (that is on the manila interface) any solution or another ignore string / list for the manila interface?
Sounds like you got alot of self made home private spicy photo's/videos..
stop taking pictures of your girlfriend/gentials lol.

Encryption programs
Secubox costs $39.95
http://www.aikosolutions.com/products/secubox-for-pocket-pc/
FreeOTFE costs $0.00
http://www.freeotfe.org/mobile_site/index.html
Guess which one I use! and FreeOTFE works great on my HD2! just remember to format the volume you create as a FAT32.
Works!!!
