Disable On-Screen Keyboard? - Touch Pro, Fuze General

I hate this, I never want to see it again!
Is there any way to make it disappear forever?

Not sure if you would want to do that you might need it. But you can make it so it does not AUTO POP UP eachtime your in a screen that uses it. Do a search for auto pop up

I hate it and want to remove it entirely - isn't that possible? I've never used it once and don't intend to.

hmmm...I have never used the hardware keyboard...only the on screen one...

Hmm not sure about removing it but you can disable it from poping up.
I dont mind it, comes in handy for typing in something very short when I dont feel like waiting for the screen to reorient while the keyboard pops out.

Have a look at this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=341959
There are 2 solutions listed, NullKB and FakeSIP. I haven't tried them as I use both keyboards depending on how much text I have to input and whether I have the stylus out already.
Good luck.

Fuze on-screen keyboards

Hey, this is only my second post here. I kinda feel like a leech since all I ever do is look around and try to gain some knowledge for myself.
But I was hoping nobody would mind and maybe try for some help.
Anyways, I tried doing some searching through the forums but couldn't find anything on this.
About a week or two ago I just updated my fuze to the htc 5.11.502.2 rom.
Besides the stupid problem of texts not getting marked read I have found another weird little problem.
My on screen keyboards are a little messed up.
When I goto "Phone Keypad" (whether it be for SMS or anything else) it brings up the keypad and looks how it is supposed to. Although whenever I click a button to try and spell something out... well it does not give me a letter at all, just the number associated with that button.
Then if I goto select my "compact qwerty" keyboard it does the same thing. brings up the keyboard and i see the letters, but whenever I hit a letter it types a number instead.
then sometimes it will actually show the numbers... but the "ABC" box will be greyed out and i wont be able to select it.
yeah i know i suck for using the htc roms, but i never really wanted to put the effort into looking for a custom rom, there are so many choices i didn't even bother looking. i would have gone crazy because there are so many choices and i am a very indecisive person.
so anyways. do i have to hard reset? or is there some quick fix i can do?

Disable ALL on-screen keyboards?

Is there any way to totally disable the on-screen keyboards? They come up by default in some programs and they are annoying as ... especially if you have a hardware keyboard.
get nullkb
and sipchange
and make nullkb default
Somebody with a more solid answer will probably be along shortly. I don't believe you can actually remove ALL the SIPs, but I DO believe you can keep the keyboard from ever popping up by default (although I believe a few individual programs will still pop it up).
edit: or somebody with a better answer will be along before I actually hit "post."
I had the same problem when my wireless keyboard stopped working and somehow that on screen keyboard appeared. I posted here and a MS person helped me. Spend some time in Ease of Access and you'll find out how to turn it off.

[APP REQUEST] Trackball as phone "Send" button

(please delete the other thread)
N1 suffers from one simple but debilitating hardware limitations - lack of hardware buttons.
Since trackball clicking is rarely used, it would be nice to assign a different function to it.
The first function coming to mind has to do with the fact that the device is a phone -
make trackball into a "Send" button.
This is what it should do:
1) whenever not in the dialer app, clicking trackball should bring up/start the dialer.
2) when in the dialer app, and a phone number was entered, clicking trackball should dial the number.
3) when there's an incoming call, clicking the trackball should answer the call.
I know some people with arthritis who would kill for such an app.
Thanks.
If such an app. were to be created, how about the case where the foreground process requires the use of the trackball click? Then every time you clicked it, the phone dialer would load.
I also don't personally thing the Android APIs would allow such a global hook (w/o root), but I'm not the best dev. out there so I'll let the more experienced respond to that one.

Well, that's the whole point.
You mean like a game? So far, games might be the only programs where you HAVE to use trackball for functionality.
I think all other programs allow touch screen input in place of the trackball.
Since I never use the trackball for anything, and I've seen a number of comments with the same sentiment (ie "trackball is useless"), I'd gladly trade the entire trackball function (including moving the cursor with the ball) for the ability to have a hardware "send" button.
I'll personally pay 50 dollars to a man/woman who can make this work. Then they can collect the money from thousands of market goers who'd would prefer a useful hardware button over a useless one.
Just a small bump.
why is this in the development section?
/sarcasm
jesus people your right stuff like this should be posted next to / under/ above threads like Cyanogen and Amon_RA
And how would you handle the movement of the ball when it rolls? I find when in recovery, it doesn't take much for the trackball movement to register and overshoot the options I am aiming for if not careful. Obviously a sensitivity setting would be the recourse for such a dilemma but still...or were you thinking that anything beyond buttonOn (false function obviously) is ignored?
Technically you could go as far as to have the tracball pressed trigger the dialer. From there you can scroll to call log, contacts, favourites using the trackball and then scroll down if you so desire.
I do find it odd that the phone has this hardware button and rarely is it actually used.
I think being able to touch the trackball and force the phone out of sleep is a sound expectation for this phone...the fact it isn't there is odd.
just get a sense or blur rom, that fixes everything

hahaha...
in other news, plenty of people have no interest in senseUI
One more bump.
Someone should really write this program.
Using the trackball to bring the phone in and out of sleep would drain your battery. That trackball is way to easily pressed (ie in your pocket) to be of any use as that function, but I would love the phone/send function. Would be wonderful as I hate having a phone shortcut on my homescreen.
Would be willing to pay or donate as well.

Thank you. One of very few people who seem to understand this problem.
Anyway, the community's reluctance to implement this feature is a seeming indication of difficulty to do it. Maybe Android OS isn't that flexible; or maybe it's just too new, so people haven't really learned yet how to do things with it.
After all, the Win Mobile OS has been around for ages, and sure enough, as soon my Sprint Touch Pro2 was released, I had an app to rebind all the keys to whatever function I wanted.
Perhaps, in the future, we will see an Android app like the one I want. But, to my greatest disappointment, it may be years...
bump bump bump
I'll bump it one more time.
Any progress with this feature?
Another month has passed...
Has any developer figured out if it'd even be possible to make an app like that?
Thanks.

Disable predictive-like text thing

Posted this in HD2 general, might not have been the right section as no-one seems to be paying any attention, and I really want to sort this!
May be a stupid question, I've searched my phone and the net and couldn't find anything, though I'm not sure what I should be searching for anyway.
I'm hoping someone can tell me how to disable the box of words that pops up when typing something, trying to predict what you might be trying to say.
I'm sure it's only been showing up recently, possibly since I installed an application or something, as I don't remember it being there when I first got the phone, otherwise I would have asked this question by now.
I've attached an example of what I'm talking about.
I've tried going into Text Input Settings and enabling / disabling Spell Correction, Word Completion (XT9) and Word Complection (ABC) (all off at the moment) but it doesn't seem to make any difference, and it's really bugging me!
Any help would be really appreciated!
disabling those options and resetting the device does the trick for me.....
btw what kind of keyboard are you using there?
also you have an "options" when selecting the keyboard input, in that opting menu you need to disable them there too.
I've tried a number of different combinations of settings and resetting the phone in between, just doesn't seem to pay attention to the settings.
Also think there's something weird going on as the XT9 and ABC doesn't make any difference when using the normal keyboards, it no longer has the XT9 style text prediction instead of this blocky word suggestion. Though I don't care about the missing XT9 mode, I just want to hide this.
Also, I'm using Swype keyboard, which was installed after this happened in the hope it would hide the word suggestion, but no such luck
Anyone? Anything?
Really want to sort this, but need assistance!
Try going to HKCU\ControlPanel\Sip. If you have the key 'suggwords', change it from 4 to 0. You may need to soft reset. There are many other settings that can be tweaked in there as well. You could just change 4 to 2, so the suggestion panel doesn't take up as much real estate. Still, it will occasionally obscure a control, which is annoying.
Perfect! That's exactly what I wanted.
I knew someone would know!
Many thanks.

[Q] Disable SMS wakeup / notification pop-up on WP7

Hi Everyone,
I have searched Google and must say I can't find any solution for changing SMS WakeUp / Notification pop-up.
It is so annoying when the screen lights up.
I would also like to be able to disable that it shows the message in the top statusbar.
I have unlocked my phone by finding the "ChevronWP7" unlocker tool and send (by e-mail) the "ChevronCert" to my WP7 HTC Trophy and installed the certificate. Downloaded "Tom XAP Installer v1.2.zip" and installed "RegistryEditor 1.1.0.0.xap" where I have tried several registry fixes found on different websites: "modify-sms-notifications-in-windows-phone-7" but nothing worked also found a solution here and the same again nothing i working:
[HK_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL]
"DisableSMSWakeUpEvent"=dword:1
Could someone help out I would really appreciate....
Thanks.
Bump please
Bump...Lookin for the same thing
Sorry guys, but why would you want this? I hate it on my Android. I have to push the power button every single time, which in turn, kills my hardware buttons.
At least you guys go to your lockscreen with a notification at the top, I had to download an app to wake the screen and it bypasses the lockscreen and I text/call people every single day lol. I wish it would just GO TO THE LOCKSCREEN!!!
Privacy, of course!
Bump.
@Dj21o: With respoect, I can think of at least one good reason why this setting should be "settable" and that is privacy. I may be in an environment where I don't want just anyone to be able to see an SMS as it arrives just by looking at my screen.
The fact that you would prefer it this way is, of course, good, too, but I think ther choice should be in the hands of the user.
Don't youy agree?

Yeah, it should be available for those that want it, and for those who don't... It is a simple setting that make it a big deal for users, and I can totally see where you are coming from. Sometimes my phone unlocks, and that is swiping left to right. I imagine it happens much more swiping up lol.
There is a site where you can put down ideas for developers to look at, and people vote for them. I can post the link of the site if you want.
Here is the site, you can post your ideas accordingly to what type of idea it is.

I just want to know exactly why you want this? Yes it can be abit bright at the first glimpse but isn't there a bigger risk for falling asleep if you just press a button, instead of actually opening your eyes?
Nothing against what you like/dislike, I'm just asking, why.

I want it too because I have Whatsapp group where people keep messaging all the time. And the screen remains on all the time. which simple means that my battery drain faster because screen is always on.

I have the same problem
Any news about this???
So, disable Toast notifications in WhatsApp? That's a (required) per-app setting, no need to request an OS feature for it!
Why you don't flip you phone down? If proximity sensor detect something close to phone display it will don't turn display on when toast notification pop-up.
