xbackup problem - General Questions and Answers

Dear Sirs:
I would like to thank you for this nice website.
I have a problem I wish you can help me with.
I have an I-mate, PDA2, it I had to make a hard restore as it stopped responding suddenly. I keep me back up files in the 'storage' location. When I started the "xbackup' I made a deadly mistake be executing the "back up" button instead of the "restore" and the old back up was replaced by a new empty one.
Is the any chance to have these files beck
I appreciate your help in advance
Best regards

Imate JAM- upgrade- pointer stuck after restoring.

I've got an iMate JAM,
which is the samller version of the pda2k with 128mb of memory,
i had some software problems and the local supplier said its a known problem in this software verson. so they took it to upgrade it.
after upgrading, the telephone worked, however,(here is the problem)
i tried to restore my old data: contacts, emails, txt msgs, ...etc.
after restoring the pointer (touch screen) didnt work! i tried every thing that came into my mind ... restarting, soft reset , ... and nothing worked.
the only solotion was to do a hard reset. the device worked perfectly after doing the hard reset but i dont have my data !
i took it back to the agent who simply said: we're sorry you are not the first one... but you cannot restore your old data after upgrading!!! !!
- a friend advised to post the issue into this website (CUZ THEY'RE REALLY GOOD) he said!.. i really wish i could find a solution to my problem.. i need to restor my old data .
thanx.

Can not restore my backup.stg file on a S100

Need help. I`m going crazy for last 3 months!!! Needed to send my S100 for repair and did a backup. when got it back and tried to restore backup.stg file goes almost until the end, but.... then does not load 4 dll and some databases that I think are from from the outlook. I have set the Regional Settings as previously, but does not work. The fact is that I have everything back except all my telephone numbers and outlook contacts that I have collected for the last 3 years!!!
NEED HELP!!! Thank anybody!! ??
I think I had the same problem months ago. I assume you get some error about files/databases being in in use/locked.
My suggestion is you get a copy of SPB Pocket Plus (trial will do) & activate the safemode option. This means that if your device softresets twice within 30 secs. it will offer to boot in safemode & that's what you want in this case. So softreset your device twice within those 30 secs & go into safemode. Now restore your PIM data etc. Shouldn't be a problem now.
Pls respond if this works cause I didn't try (just didn't knew then) & I did loose my data at that time. Now I use Sprite Backup which is much much better.
Succes, M
Thanks oltp for the reply. I am afraid but that did not work!! when I try to restore the backup.stg file from the S100 using the xBackup option the start button doesn`t even come activ! If I try to restore from ActiveSync>Tools>Backup/Restore and then I click "Restore Now" it comes with a message like this: "the selected backup file is not valid. Please select another storage file".
Can you help me?
I'm very afraid I can't help you then with xBackup. Did you ever synced all contacts & appointments with Outlook, so you can sync. them back to your device?
Don't delete your file right now, maybe I can experiment a little with xBackup today & work something out. No promises though.
Best advice, too late of course, use Sprite Backup next time.
Regards, M
Once again thanks for your effort oltp. I`d appreciate you could work out something as I also lost the backup file that I had fm the outlook. I rely completely on you.

Hi,
You could try to connect your phone to your PC as an external HD and do a recovery with some app like Recuva

[Completed] How to recover an SMS.DB from a crashed phone. Messages from a deceased person...

Hello Android gurus,
I would be VERY gratefull if someone can help me with this:
Short version: A week ago a very good girlfriend send me a couple of SMS messages. I only could read some of them and then... my phone started to bug, install all kinds of cr*p etc. To try to solve the problem I reinitialized the phone, (after making a backup on an SDcard) , tried a hard reset, but nothing. Brought it to a shop but they said "nop, we cannot restore it properly". Finally I bought a new phone. So that's not the problem. Unfortunately, a couple of hours after she send me her last messages this girlfriend died from cancer, and I would have liked to read what she wrote to me. So I have this SDcard where I found a file sms.db which (I suppose) contains these messages. Is there any way to recover what's in there? I don't need it on my new phone. Any format would be fine. A text file or whatever.
Long version:
2 years ago I bought an Huawei G740. And because it had a lot of bloatware on it I rooted it with SuperSU. Don't ask me how, because this was 2 years ago and I don't remember how I did it. I have some reasonable IT skills , but I'm far from an Android guru. Anyway, phone worked fine for 2 years without any problems. Then, as described above, just after I received these messages from her (and I didn't have time to read), my phone was powered off. Don't know why because I never power it off. When I started it again, it started to install all kinds of cr*p. Useless apps, links to porn sites, popup windows with adds etc. And worse, the whole phone became unusable. It kept switching from one application to the other, showing all kinds of ads etc. So I decided to do a reset from the parameter menu (backup on SD card and reinitialise). That didn't solve the problem. So I did a hard rest (Power+volume up) and wiped everything. Same problem. As soon as I start it, all cr*p comes back. So I brought it to a "professional phone repair shop". Next day the verdict was "No, we cannot do anything because of this SuperSU app". And I bought a new phone (a Samsung Galaxy). So my phone problem is solved, but now remains the question : how do I recover the sms messages that are on this SD card???
I would be EXTREMELY grateful if someone can recover what's in there. I can send the sms.db (or any other file that you may require) to whoever thinks he can recover it.
Thank you very much.
Thank you very much!
I had a look at the link but that's complete wizardry for me.
I don't have a rooted phone and I don't want to restore all my apps, data, pics etc. I don't want to restore anything on my new phone. Just recover what's in the SMS database into a file (txt or excel or whatever).
Is it enough if I send you the SMS.db? If so how to send it to you?
Thank you
Hi !
I`m afraid that isn`t possible to just use that file on a different device and read the messages , this is not how it works with the android providers files, you can use it only on the same device and OS that it was created before
There are third-party applications which can backup the specific files suck sms/mms/calls and the created file can be used only by that application
The only possible solution for you may be to fully restore a nandroid backup with that file inside and to have a working system
For more info just google it " sms.db "
Good luck !
