Tornado:Severe deficiency with Appointment Scheduler ! WHY?

Hello to the Group,
I desperately noticed that even with the new AKU2 upgrade (Firmware version 2.x) it is still NOT possible to schedule an appointment from the calendar and invite PARTICIPANTS for a meeting !!!
(My Smartphone is a Qtek 8300.)
What the hell is the reason for it ?
The calendar on the Qtek 9000 for instance (same as the JASJAR, a PDA), which is otherwise pretty identical however DOES allow inviting people to a meeting.
With availability of DirectPush being able also to invite people directly from your mobile (Smartphone) would make really big sense.
I cannot imagine any reasonable explanation why this important calendar functionality is - still - crippled in the Smartphone version of WM5.
Was this simply forgotten by Microsoft ? or HTC ? Or is there any reason I am not aware of ?
Any chance this is repaired via an update ?
~~~~~~~~~~
Sorry for the unintended crossposting. Wanted to post this just to the Tornado Forum, but mistakenly had posted it to Universal.
Have you tried Papyrus?? IT is a welcome addition to the original calendar and may fix your problem.
No I have not.
I will have a look at their webpage, thanks for this hint.
However I'd like to avoid on the one hand installing a second PIM (I'm using my Qtek 8300 mainly as my business phone and not just for playing around) and secondly I am really surprised how things like that can "happen" at all.
Implementing an Appointment Scheduler which is otherwise quite the same as the one implemented on the HTC PDAs, while forgetting/removing/crippling out any way for actually inviting people to that appointment is more than strange.
Though I am otherwise really satisfied with my Smartphone (especially with the improvements of the 2.x upgrade) this is a really bad bug.
Why use WM6 over WM5?
I've tried quite a few of the WM6 ROMS (The only ones I haven't tried was Ivan's and Darkforce's). But I always see myself going back to WM5 (mostly because I miss video calling). Is it just me? or is there something about WM6 that I'm not seeing? This question is much like Windows XP vs Windows Vista... I just couldn't see any reason to use Vista.
Anyone kind enough to site the major differences or advantages between the two? (except for aesthetics, of course)
I know I could just google for comparison charts or something.. but I prefer various "user opinions" So please don't point me here: WM5 vs WM6 chart... besides, it's not very accurate since most cooked WM5 ROMS does have a few added features.
I agree with you to some extent.
In my opinion wm5 is much stable and made for the universal device that we all have.
Wm6 is not compatible and a beta app. Video call is part of the hardware and with wm6 , in-directly we have terminated that, in other words the world moves towards 3G/umts and we have made our devices fall back to 2G with wm6 crossbow which doesnot have video call.
Also its like driving hard to make wm6 perfect , which will never happen.
Its just like using a car and trying to put in a engine that is not compatible.
So I think uni devices is directly proportional to wm5. Period!
The reason I use WM6 over WM5 is this:
I love tweaking and messing around with my Universal
I'm not afraid of "bricking" it or having to reflash\loose data
I am hoping (sometimes I think, its a false hope...) that a WM6 ROM will be superior to my old WM5 one
Why the hell not?
Like I've said before - this is a forum for developers\hackers\tweakers, if you want a perfect ROM - look to your manufacturer. If you want to have some fun with your Universal (and void its warranty) then look no further!
There are a couple of apps that I find very useful, the new RDP client is much better & I use that a lot, Internet Sharing is a great tool for connecting to the Internet from my laptop on the move. The upgrade to the Office apps to support Office 2007 documents will help people who move to Off2007, but even though I use it I still save my files in Off2003 format so that the rest of the world can read them.
Apart from that I am sticking with WM5 for now because I need something that works more reliably.
I have reverted back to WM5 just after using the WM6 on universal for ~1h everytime. Reason: Its slow as compared to WM5(yeah, ironic ) and few unfixed bugs
But, what I love about WM6..
1)progress bar in Office apps. I love it when it shows the progress while opeing my big word document containing plethora of pics.
2)no 'unidentified driver' problem: many of us were getting this problem under wm5. I didn't experience it under wm6 under that 1h span though (my solution to that problem in WM5: as long as you use wisbar advance2, you will NEVER experience that problem)
3)glossy looks (though I still prefer wisbar advance)(see the screenshot attatched)
4)better phone integration
On the other hand, I m using WM6 on my wizard and its perfect
[img=http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/370/kamalxa8.th.png]
Well, I don't want to switch back to WM5. Mainly for those reasons:
1/ I don't use video Calling because NO ONE from my about 700 contacts has video calling capabilites (that's Germany ;-)
2/ The new RDP-Client is REALLY great and I use it often to connect to my Server
3/ The Messaging features like "instant search" is for me one of the most important, as I use the universal to write about 20 eMails per Day and take notes when i'm at my customers.
4/ (I know you don't want to read it ;-) The nicer looking
5/ My Universal is much faster with WM6 (not with all releases though) as with the original WM5 ROMs.
6/ The Original T-Mobile WM5 ROM is UGLY AS HELL ;-)
7/ I forgot: The Call-List in the corresponding Contact is another great Feature
If I can think of anything more, I'll tell you
I find WM6 faster and - unlike some posters - much MUCH more stable.
I too have been used such reasoning. Unfortunately after a while I came to the realisation that it was a false hope and went back to WM5.
That said, one reason to use WM6 is that the contacts app can query the DirectPush active directory to get Exchange contact details.
same here. german wm5 is unusable, slow as hell and buggy.
Hi,
I'm using WM6 (LVSW's ROM 2007-05-19) at the moment, mainly because I bought an Imate JasJam (Australian Telstra network) but use it on our "3" network and I didn't want to install the 3 Dopod ROM.
I did remove the Telstra customisations, but then lost Video call.
With LVSW's ROM, I now have video call back - Why do you say you don't have video calls in WM6????
I like to play with devices too!
Benifits so far (48 hours use) no freezes, a little faster, nicer looking & navigation plus there's a few new options but I'm not sure if they are useful to me.
Bad points - less memory storage & everyone at work is asking me about WM6!
Cheers! Oggy.
p.s. look further at video calls - it works for me!
REALLY??? Can you please give us more details as how you manage that? Links are good too.
WM5? Which AKU you are you talking about?
Here, the official WM5 release is AKU2, which is so slow that you can zZzZz.
For Cooked ROM, WM5 is up to AKU3.5 which is the one I am using, is with Video Call and fast.
WM6 still does not have video call, but there is a beta VideoCall cab which you can try, some works, some doesn't.
WM6 speed compare to WM5 AKU3.5, speed difference is marginal, but both are definitely faster than WM5 AKU1 & WM AKU2. But for WM6 to be slower than WM5, hmmm, how could this possible.
german t-mobile wm5 rom is quite unstable and unreliable. Some programs doesn't work at all on t-mobile wm5 roms (like cLaunch - ok, I know stupid example because cLaunch doesn't support vga resolutions at all... but it was the first application that came to my mind )
I'm satisfied with the functionality of wm6 roms. there is just one thing I don't like about it - how can I change the keyboard layout of an english rom? I would like to have an english rom but with the layout of a german keyboard - any ideas how to do that?
One problem with that - we have the I-Mate JasJar not the JasJam
Not meaning to flame, but as clarification:
I-Mate JasJam - - - - - I-Mate JasJar
Dopod 838Pro - - - - - Dopod 900
O2 Xda Trion - - - - - - O2 Exec
HTC Hermes - - - - - - HTC Universal
So, your WM6 ROM is different to ours
(How do I know the above? Well, I work for 3 in Australia.... )
hello,
I'm using Wm6 beta rom for testing exchange 2007 improvement with this os and there a lot of new features !!
like html mail format, Simplified Administration, Increased Monitoring and Flexible Policy Management ...
Maybe you were using an old WM5. You must try WM5 AKU3.5 or WM5 AKU3.5.
Not very popular. Probably not more than 25 people owns a Universal in Manila.. and only 3-4 of them (including me) actually bothers to flash their ROMS since they're too scared..
85% of cellphone users here use Nokia since Nokia devices (particularly the N series) have good 3G support. Most PPC devices seen here would be the Atom, XDA II/i, and Dopod 838 Pro.
3G is very good here.. and the reason I bought a Universal is because during the time I bought this (early 2006), this was the first PPC available that supports video calling... So please somebody make video calling work on WM6.. :beg:
Qtek 9000 English ROM
Hello,
I'm new on this forum, and first of all I must say that I am amazed by things I saw.
Now, the question:
CAN ANYONE TELL ME HOW TO CHANGE MY WINDOWS MOBILE ON MY QTEK 9000?
The thing is, I got it as a gift, and considering that its my first WM PDA (I used only symbian and Linux PDAs and never WM for longer period then few days tests).
Now, problem is because it is on French (and I don't know a single word on French) so I need to change it back to English.
I would be really greatfull to you if you could tell me what programs I need to download and install (post a links for them if possible) and which ROM is best.
It is 18 months old so batery isn't very good (I havent tested it yet because I can not operate it on French ) so please take that as a option when you propose me something.
Also, I will use it mostly as a communicator for internet access (GPRS and WiFi) e-mails, chat programs and less for calls and messages so take that as a option too.
All I need is a communicator which can provide me access to my mails and internet and manage to last one day ona one batery charge (I mostly use GPRS, I know that WiFi uses more power)
Once more, THANK YOU and I hope that someone of you will help me to meke this beauty runabe for me.
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Uni_ROM_Upgrade
And I would recomend THIS rom. Be aware WM 6.x doesn't have a fully working video call though. So if thats your thing then stick to WM 5.0. Otherwise WM 6.0 is streets ahead. One last tip is read the Universal WiKi well first, it saves a ton of questions later.
Have fun
Jay
P.S. welcome to the forum
Thank you all... but I've been reading aboru this bleck edition ROM and I see lot of people are complaining on it (especialy on BT, WiFi and GPRS which is important to me)
So please put me a link to a normal clean ROM (WM5 od WM6 I don't care as long as it is reliable and debugged, manufacturers ROMs also if you have)
Why We Dont Have The New Skins etc - Cotulla ?
Hi
I am Very New to this Stuff , i have an Old Mag . Imate JAM
i upgraded it it work work like a charm , i have few questions , hope you developer will answer it , i am seeing that only Cotulla is RELEASINg new roms so i have added his name in POST Title ,
I have a Tornado Already , (smartphone with by default wm5)
i upgraded to that one , and that non touchscreen mobile have HTC Home Screens , and Sliding Panel and Sliding Panel Media etc .
even the same sort WIZARD have roms like htc touch ,
than why We Dont have these functionalities in our MAG
is there any software or hardware resitractions involved , ?
i was just much curious about this , so i am asking This .
Hope the devolpers and Cotulla will not mind to answer it
Thanks
HTC Home (and the rest) are additions to the ROM, you can search for them here in the forum and you' probably find them all (or some alternatives). As an example, I'm running HTC Home on my Jam with no issues.
I think that Cotulla is trying to keep the ROMs are small and streamed as possible to offer only the basic functionality (this is great for devices with smaller RAMs, such as mine).
You can install HTC Home yourself,Cotulla only want to make clean ROMs,because someone would like HTC Home but someone wouldn't.
Too many additions will slow down your device and drain more power.
Ok , Got The answer , Thanks for It .
Any Short and easy method for Installing HTC HOME
thanks
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3779878&postcount=46
Thanks for The Link
Its working but my device is bit slow
but any link for
sliding panel
i wanna try this
I'm sorry but I just have to respond on this. Cottulla makes a small OS for the Magician on purpose, like xiaojin1985 said. And after installing the Home you say your device is slowing down... of course it is! Old device with new memory draining features will slow down your device. Plz remind to read .
^^^
I am 100% agree with you as now i have test it myself .
But
i have seen how much Slow the magician become after installing HTC HOME ,
but maybe i can afford that slowness if the sliding panel will work on magician as i love them.
so as i said
is there any chance for sliding panel plugins
thanks
(sorry for bad English)
Im New! Perhaps some new ideas
Ok first of all I would like to thank everyone here at xda-developers for all the hard work and time you put in everything you guys do.
And I would like to apologize for a few things
1) I m really sorry i can not support you guys financially because i dont have a credit card and money is very very very tight (i had to trick a girl in to buying the Touch Pro for me as a "gift" ) , i know it's painstaking work
2) I apologize for oppening a new thread I don't know if it's right place for it
3) I'm sorry for my bad english if I misspell something my english is somewhat rusty
4) I'm sorry if my ideas or thoughts will be the one's of a noob (but it's better to be one for 5 minutes then be one a whole life)
5) Sorry if my imagination is a bit wild
So with that out of the wey let me introduce myself and i'll get straight to the point
My name is Laurentiu but my but my friends call me Sayr
I'm from Romania (a small insegnificant rat hole of a country, if you don't know where that is just think DRACULA)
I live in Bucarest
And i'm 23
The Touch Pro is my first HTC phone and my second Windows Mobile powerd phone , my first was a E-Ten GloFiish X500 which i found on the street one day , and i loved Windows Mobile and with the things I could do with it since then.
I thought it was perfect till i started to search the web for apps and stuf and ran across this site and seen all the possibilities and started to tweek the phone but it got me thinking about how can it be better thanx to you guys.
So i would like to throw in my 2 cents. and ask your opinion .
- Is it possible to extend the Comm Manager to include the hidden settings for : beam , data connectin , 3G , etc... alongside the standard on off settings?
I discovered this settings using the advanced configuration tool
Because this setthings are very handy to have at hand
I know for certain that Beam is permananty activ by default, but i don't know for certain but i think that Beam uses up battery, i'v seen some improvement in battery power since i turned beam off , but perhap it's just mai imagination.
Data connection on/off setting is is also great to have at hand because in some apps it it doesn't startup automatically wen the app needs it or it doesn't shutdown after you exit the app , for example Skype 3.0
And 3G on/off setting is also grate
- Is it possible to have a program thet emulates Port 80? meaning that i can connect to the internet using the phone form a computer or laptop using the Port 8080 on the device,
Let me give you a example becaus i dont know technical talk, this is wath the guy over at vodafone technical support told me in regard to way i cant connect to the internet using the phone with the data plan i have , (is the only one available for prepaid cards in romania, there is another one but is way too expensive 1€ per MB , the more affordable one is 4€ per month and is unlimited , but it only work's on the phone) he said that the computer connects to Port 80 but the phone connects to port 8080 on the proxy server and the proxy server will not accept a incoming connection from Port 80, so can a bridge program be made to tel the proxy server that it is sending and receiving data from a app that uses Port 8080 when the PC tries to access the connectin , same same is true for some apps they will not accept this tipe of connectin becaus of the port difference, this port restriction closes many doors.
- Is it possible to make a phone lock that is simple and efficient to us and that eliminates annoying things.
Wath I'm thinking in in terms of features is:
*Automatic lock on sleeap
*Disengag via 2 second pres on center of the D-pad
*Lock screen wen incoming call but unlock after answering
*Obtional password protection
Very simple an comfortable to us, no annoying settings, no timers
Form me and i'm sure for many it would be the perfect thing to to avoid answering unwanted calls by mistake , calling by my mistake if phone turn's on in pocket, etc .....
- XDA tab, a tab in which you cand view the forum and a particular particular thread of your choosing and respond to postings in real time
and if posible to set it up to view other forums to?
- Bug Fix , when i set a ringthon other then the default "bips" for the SmS , mms , e-mail .... it doesn't stop ringing even after I read the message , it shod stop the moment i press the message tab,
Can this Bug be fixed? (i have standard/default rom)
- A minimize tab , ok we all know that we can set the "X" to close the apps completely a very nice feature provided by HTC but , some times we dont want to close a app for example Acrobat Reader or Opera or YouTube but want it or not we have to, it would be nice to have a tab to minimize one or more apps in while acces other apps and and sweach between them
Ok I'm back,
- So so another idea I'v got is for TouchFlo can TouchFlo asspacialy for the landscape mode,
ok so it's cool to have a TF interface like in portrait mode in landscape mode because the default one is horibal , but wath if we can make better use of it , to have different tabs in landscape mode then the ones in portrait mode that are more usefull in landscape ,
in landscape things like the pepel tab, standard home tab, pictures tab , music tab , etc , are not usefull,
but things like connectin manager tab , today tab , something like a mailing list tab , a programabil sms or email tab (by programabil i meen you can set it up to text or mail with a cerit contact or grup in that tab) , a skype tab , etc ...
- a radio tab for the inbuilt radio
- a small keymaping tweak to make "Enter" on the hardware keybord the send key via "Fn + Enter"
(i do aloat of texting that is the main reason i wanted a phone with a full qwerty keyboard, like 60 to 100 a day 2000 - 3000 a month i use it like messenger so it will be a lot nicer if the key was maped that wey , for pepel ho do a lot of texting)
- is the GPS recever on all the time ?
or it just start's up wen a'n app need's it ?
if it is permanantly on dosent it wareout the battery ?
can a on / off switch be made to tur it off wen it is of no use ?
Hi & welcome to XDA.... there really is a lot of information here for your phone - pretty much if you can think of it then it'll be here somewhere... just a quick idea reading through your post, the software to lock your screen have a look at PocketShield - I use
it and have to say the author is fantastic, updates almost daily and it's really cheaply priced for what it does (think it's under £7??) I've been using it for a while and think it's excellent, but that's just my opinion...
Anyways, hope you get some more answers to your questions, don't worry abou being a n00b, we all were at one time!!!
MadMic
Thanks for the heads up MadMic i'll look into it and
I'll look around the forum for more info so i can learn how to put my ideas in practice
but i truly wish for a few how-to's on how to do this things , on ware to start ,
wath is wath and on wath software's / programs to use , the basics, you know ,
in plain language ...
are there such things?
