i remember what xdadev was...
how many of you too...
it was NORMAL forum about PPC/SM modding, now this place is actually one big mess.
sweet lord, what is happening here now..
instead adding subforum about EVERY moddable(uh..) WM device now we have iphonemoronism everywhere...
can anyone give me link to ppc modding site ONLY?
I agree screw the Iphone, it's not as great as everyone has been lead to think it is. So yeah it looks flashy when you go through it's menu's woopie slap pointui on a PPC and you've got your flashy. Screw the Iphone and macs in general.
Was about to say that I have no interest in anything that starts with a lower-case 'i'. then I realise I use i-Mate. D'oh

I quite like it: bit limited connectivity-wise, poor camera and I prefer drag 'n' drop to Itunes BUT to use the Iphone is a breath of fresh air and has at the very least brought about a change in the way everyone - Symbian, Windows Mobile and so-on is to approach the GUIs of their hansets.
Apple didn't invent the touchscreen but they've brought about a revival of it and you've only got to play on an LG Viewty and an Iphone for 30 minutes each from a cold introduction to realise just how much thought and effort has been put into the Iphone's operation, and how much of a dog everything seems in comparison.
I'm not an Apple fanboy, I don't own one, nor do I own or know how to use a Mac. What I do know is that over the next year or so there are to be some exciting advancements in the world of the touchscreen and I thank Apple for getting Microsoft and Symbian off their arses and thinking about how to make their operating systems NICE to use.
Function is nothing without enjoyment
so imagine enjoyment WITHOUT function.
It was posted in the General discussion area so i cant see how its managed to wind you up so much. Its simply a thread in an online forum not like someones slashed your car tyres. Im no apple fanboy, i do own a Mac (only cos windows is so crap) but have a HTC Touch.
Maybe start a petition to ban iPhone talk here if your so against it?
All of this negativity, come on guys, its just a phone. Its not like the second coming.
However, what gets me with all this negativity is that the modding scene for WM that gives a lot of iPhone style functionality - iFonz, ThumbCal, PocketCM, etc.
Whilst I do like (some) of the functionality of WM, I cannot believe that MS has got to v6 of WM and still managed to have a product with arguably one of the worst user interface experiences that I've ever, er, experienced.
The good thing about iPhone and Mac is the easy of "Getting into a computer for the first time". What I mean is if you are totally computer illiterate (or a computer virgin) it is much easier to understand and get a hang of it than Microsofts OSs. However, it is pretty darn hard to "downgrade" to a Mac once you worked on XP or Vista --- where the f**k is the right mouse button anyways...
I love the User Experience factor on the iPhone, but other than that I can't use it for anything other than a really expensive mp3 player with a phone function.
I would say if your grandma fanny wants to learn computer and how to get on the internet a Mac is perfect for her.
Come on now guys... I can understand iPhone hatred, as this is a WM device (emphasis on WM) forum, but hating Macs? There ARE PPC-using Mac people, you know... myself included... me personally, I have my trusty TyTN II and an iPhone... one for work, one for play. Each have their pros and cons. And ultimately... TO EACH HIS OWN!!!
I love the Iphone vs. all other phones arguments. It's so amusing to see both sides get so worked up. It's like watching a American Football fan arguing with a Football fan from anywhere else in the world (soccer). Yes there are similarities but they are two different sports, therefore the majority of arguments are merely logical fallacies.
My friend put it best, "Apple makes products now for people that want to be told what to do". The Iphone is an amazing piece of eye candy. Competition breeds excellence so I say the people at Apple should give it everything they got. HTC should then try to outdo Iphone etc..etc..this will then give us better and better phones.
@burgertime, what does your friend mean, told what to do? You mean because of our zealot-like loyalty (sorry here, don't mean to sound too condescending or anything, but you have to admit alot of mac fans are simply that - zealots (I'm not one, personally, and though I like Macs, I hate those zealot-like fans). btw, it's outDO, not outDUE

Are you happy now grammar nazi??? Ha ha just joking. Anyways, I think what he was getting at was the problem many WM users had with the Iphone. The fact that you had to "jail break" it just to put anything outside of what Apple tells you is the best to have on the phone. Same thing with the Ipod. Apple has decided that it has the best products so why change a good thing? Where as Windows has been forced to go along with the flo of programs developed outside of their scope. Apple I think will be forced to be open on a programming level.
Just as an example I would much rather own a Creative Zen then an Iphone. Yes the Iphone looks better, but I want to be able to put a WMV file or a Ogg or anyother codec and not have to run through Itunes to do it. Thus why I say Apple says, "you have to use Itunes because it's the best". A lot of people like the simplicity of this and thus carry around their Iphones like a cross.
Anyways just my two cents. I think the Iphone looks wonderful but I prefer being able to have hundreds of programs that exploit the hell out of my phone.

As long as we're correcting, you never closed your first parentheses. I'll get it for you. ) There you go.
Oops... my bad. I can see why you're the sarcasm merchant.
About Jailbreaking, that's gonna end on June 9th, when Apple is (sorry, feeding off my own Mac/iPhone/Apple rumor sources here), but Gizmodo has a source that claims that iPhone 2, and also iPhone 2.0 (that's firmware update/ROM update to WM) that will introduce the iPhone App Store (including free titles). Hence, it'll be more of an open system, not to mention it'll support (in addition to the original Y!Mail) GMail, Exchange, AOL, .mac mail to be pushed.
I think the reason so many people strongly dislike the iPhone (or anything else 'Apple') is their misleading manipulative advertising. They don't just say "we're great" they say "we're great, and everyone else sucks". This is offputting as is the super saturation advertising.
They act like they invented the touchscreen (give me a break).
Instead of saying "the iPhone doesn't work with a stylus, Jobs says "stylus's SUCK" in an attempt to properly indoctrinate the fanboys. It's nice to use your finger, but Styluses have their place too.
Apple fanboys sit on their asses in front of the TV and wait for Jobs to tell them what they want instead of getting on the net and finding out what's really available out there.
Jobs just makes me sick. They say he has 'Vision', I say he has 'Tunnel Vision'. He doesn't care what the people want, it's what HE wants. Like the sealed battery, Pocket PCs quit using sealed batterys 5 years or so ago because THAT'S WHAT THE PEOPLE WANTED! Same with Dpads, buttons and keyboards.
I have an iPhone that I got cheap because it won't read a simcard. This is a common problem with the iphone. Have you ever heard of a phone that won't detect a simcard?
Finally, Itunes absolutely sucks (as does quicktime and any other piece of apple software you may have the misfortune of installing on your PC). Unfortunately, the free itunes alternatives available on the net do not work with the iPhone
And finally, you don't own what you buy from apple, THEY do. At least that's the impression I get by their attempts to prevent you from modding or actually doing what you want with what you purchased. (another example of Jobs' meglomaniacal tunnel vision. He somehow knows better than you what you want.)
Good pic, but that is not the new iphone - 1st that pic is quite old now and 2nd that pic is meant to be the 1st iphone in a black case - but don't get me wrong that design is not half bad for the iphone.
However this is a Windows Mobile site - and however good the iphone may be it is not in this section
In many nag lists on negatives on the hd2 (or WM (65)) one mentions the Lack of Applications compared to Android or Iphone.
The challengers argue that the mass of iphone apps are doubles tripples quads.....etc.
in an attempt to make things concrete; Let's list what apps are really missing?
Games with quality
Fun and small games, ex: Angry Birds
Tunewiki
Layar
Wikitude
And a few mores

4. Lots of other things I can't think of right now..
Sports score something that can give u in real time NFL, Baseball, Basketball, NCAA, scores in real time with score boxes etc Sportacular comes to mind
Something to track UPS, USPS, Fedex packages (Deliveries on iPhone for example)
Tip calculator
Something similar to qTweeter where it allows you to update facebook/tweeter
Before anybody calls me an Apple fanboy I love my HD2. I came from an iphone 2g/3G 16 gig and will never go back but it is lacking a few apps!
It really is. I hate how everyone refuses to acknowledge and do anything about this (both Microsoft and HTC). Fact is, I just think either the programming part of it or business part of it just fails to impress any of the programmers. They decided to either do iPhone apps or Android apps. NOW Windows is coming out with WM7, a new way or programs and it's just throwing a wrench into the system of all the past windows mobile phones. Seriously, who monitors this **** and just says "it's ok, do it".
i love my hd2 more than my iphone just because of the big screen... but its lacking of apps is a major letdown...

OP... you are looking at it entirely wrong.. its not about what specific apps it is missing....its about being able to get a specific app at any given time whenever it is that i please.... The Apple Store and Android Open Source Market provides this... Whereas Windows fails sooo hard in that category... There really is no argument... and anyone that defends windows position in this... is either EXTREMELY easily satisfied (like 5 yr old satisfied) or just so blind and ignorrant that they fail to see the obvious truth...
i happen to be one of the users that go onto the windows market and other markets thats surfaced on my hd2 and simply "browse" for cool/ interesting apps that might be fun to check out or play with... I rarely go in with a direct set on initiative to download a specific app... nor do i know of any that does so... its usually browsing the selection.. and that is what we are all talking about... the selection... being able to download something whenever it is we feel like it..
yea??
please don't bring something like this up again in these forums... its bad enough that as a windows mobile user and FAN, you make me go and praise the opposing OS's... but i'm not arrogant to facts... i simply tell it like it is...

There are a couple of these on Marketplace, best one for me being ezytip; more than does the job... Otherwise I agree with everyone else, apps are missing no question about that.
I think ditg asks a very reasonable (good) question. The answers some people come up with are -don't take this personally- pathetic. All I read is there's a lack of games, apps that actually ARE on the market (tip calculator for instance, how many do you want?) and 'and lots of other stuff'. You have to look further than just Marketplace. There are many sites on the internet that offer apps, free or not.
The only real difference as I see it, is that IPhone apps are aggregated to one place namely ITunes whereas WM apps are all over the place though XDA probably comes close to a "marketplace" for WM apps.

you obviously took it a little too seriously... nor did you understand... yes.. i know that i can find app all over the internet.... but what the anroid market and apple store does is offer everything in a convienant location... sure.. call it what you want.. but something so simple like that is a pretty big thing... it's in one simple, easy to access location, organized, and REASONABLY priced... whether it be free or a couple bucks...
its just overall better...

lol if you want to be smart about it.... you did ask for my opinion........
but yea.. try not to take my sarcasm too far... although my initial thoughts and points stay true and valid... i respect your views... but come on... who are we kidding.... although not everything is "black" or "white" if you compare our selection/market to the other OS's, the answer is kinda apparent...
but hey.. to each his own...
The iPhone is a phone and it has it's own operating system, it's own apps and it's own store. Windows Mobile isn't a phone, it's an operating system that a lot of phone manufacturers use. That's why you can find apps all over the internet and not in just one store. I do understand, but I doubt it's a benefit putting apps in one store. Sounds to me a bit like phone-communism .

if you want your lowend user lollypop buy an Iphone.
if you are a though one that like to put your hands in deep s**t to see how thing really works then HD2 is the truth.
Well, I've been following development of this for a while now, and today i got an e-mail saying it was released.
What is it? Well its a device that connects to the audio jack of a phone (mainly iPhone, iPod touch etc...) and you can then use a program to send IR commands to any devices you own. Currently the company only support apple products though.
The program that is made by thinkflood has a huge database full of commands for all types of devices, makes an models. It can also learn commands by storing the IR signal from a remote. IT's pretty basic, however i have no knowledge of programming for android my area is web design and programming lol.
Therfore I am asking if there is anyone who could make such a program for Android devices? The accessory costs $49 roughly £32. And in my opinion is well worth the money as this type of universal remote would be priceless. We all love our wifi and bluetooth remotes for PC remotes etc, now I'm sure i speak for a lot of people when I say it would be awesome to control the whole shebang
Well I hope someone agrees with me and decides to pick up this request, I also hope that i posted this in the right section?
Thanks for listening, any questions just reply here. Also google thinkflood redeye mini for their website and info about their products.
Come on, anyone?
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App
I emailed them and they told me that they are starting development on android the beginning on the year
This is highly interesting and old Android phone is both cheaper and more flexible than some overpriced and crappy Logitech remote.
Let's hope Thinkflood releases and Android app soon!
I e-mailed Thinkflood today and got this response:
Thank you for your email. We are in the very early stages of development for Android, and are starting with integration for the Wi-Fi RedEye. Once we have that mastered, we will consider moving onto development for the mini.

Sounds like their still working on Android support.
+1 for this shizzle
Thanks for posting on this old thread and keeping me informed I forgot I made this thread haha.
Nice to know they are currently working on it. This along with my wifi remotes, such as XBMC, Eventghost and MCE Remote will working brilliantly I'll sell my logitech Harmony remote then.
Red Eye for Android is out. But no sign of the mini version. And I dont know of anything similar in the market.
The only issue I have with these mini IR adapters is how powerful they are. Don't get me wrong I'm all for consolidating gadgets, but after setting up Logitech Harmony's, I think they are much better and are worth the extra cost, plus you won't lose the tiny adapters. With that said, if you have an old android phone, this is the perfect mod, no need to throw away that phone!
An a similar note, logitech is releasing an IR blaster that works with their Android App, essentially, so long as your on the same wi-fi network, your phone/app sends commands to the IR blaster which is staged in front of your devices. Very similar to Pear actually.
it sux they spent any time on the wifi version. thats crap. the mini should had been considered first. but of course they want everyone to spend boat loads of money initailly.
ok, first off im not a developer. Most i can do is some front end web development. im a designer, so most of the time i just expect things to work. that being said, i also understand and appreciate all the hard work that you developers do, this is in no way me complaining about developers. I basically just want to understand a bit more. Why are we able to make Playstation emulators? which to me seems like it would be 10x more complicated than, say... an ipod classic emulator which is no where to be found. to me it seems like you'd be able to create some sort of app that was a framework where the ipod classic OS could run on. now, like i said, i am no developer, and i realize there probably is a completely legitimate reason, i just want to understand that reason. if there isn't, and its just a matter of someone taking the time to do it, this is my plea for that to happen.
now, you may ask "why do you want that? there are perfectly good mp3 player apps on the market if you're not pleased with the stock"
my response is: yes, i know, and if all i wanted was an mp3 player then there really wouldn't be any need for an ipod classic emulator. unfortunately the ipod has a lot more features than just an simple mp3 player. the organization system being a major point, as well as the fact that it is by far the BEST way to listen to audiobooks. the ability to skip through chapters and have chapter titles and remembered playback seem like simple things to me... but i do realize they are the result of lots of hard work. unfortunately no current player on the market can do all of this in one... let alone just the audiobook functions.
so this is why i want an ipod classic emulator, and want to know why there isn't one yet.

To put it onto layman's terms
Its apples copyrighted code so it would be illegal
So even if we wanted to, apple would Sue us and remove it from xda
The PlayStation systems run on a form of Linux, and so do our devices so that also plays a role since it makes porting that much easyer
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App
aah, so Sony doesn't care about being emulated where as apple (due to the fact that it is a product that directly relates) does. that makes sense. but then if its just legal issues... wouldn't it still be around somewhere? legal stuff hasn't stopped people in the past (ie: beautiful widgets) and there are a ton of iphone skins you'd think would be copyrighted.
Emulators work because they don't distribute the copyrighted proprietary content with the emulator. That's why you have to go find a bios file on your own.

For one reason apple will come down on you like none other and the other reason is apple has a unique code, unlike Linux it isn't open sourced so if it was to be done the software would hafya be reversed engineered for our devices
To be honest and no offense to you at all
its just too much trouble for the software

aah, i see. so because of the way apple is set up, everything is copyright so you couldn't even make a frame to hold an OS w/out breaking some copyright. ok, well thanks for the info!
Steve Jobs dont like it.

I really don't like Apple at all because of their proprietary and self obsessed tendencies. You can't do much of anything that they don't allow you to do. I have been on an Android platform since it came out years ago. That being said I am now producing music and I have been seriously considering getting an Ipad because they have several top notch synth apps and DAW's like Garage Band. The only thing I can find for Android is things that you hit a button and it makes a sound. You can't record into the program or do much of anything. Am I missing something? I would love to stick with Android, but Apple is beckoning me after all these years.
Obviously I am new to the forums, I was discussing this with a guy who told me to come here and if there was a DAW type app you guys would know about it or at least know what is in the works or why it is not coming out.
As a sidenote I have been following this thread on the android Google support forum about this very issue.
If you look up in the android code developers board at code.google dot com /p/android/issues/detail?id=3434 (won't let me post outside links so I had to separate a bunch of stuff .. just fix it to go to the link. it isn't a nefarious link it is google.

No suggestions yet?
Weather you need to make music entirely on phone or you have a studio and you just need more functionality with android devices, I think these two apps can help you.
I'm pretty sure you must have heard of FL Studio Mobile, I've been using it for a long time now and I can say it is the best DAW for Android. It has all the features that you will need as a producer. If your phone is powerful enough then you can produce any genre, there's a few things missing though, like orchestral instruments (there's a very few of those), also synths are not like top notch but they does the job if you are skilled, also Auto-Tune isn't that good yet.
Or you could also try Cubasis 3, it has a free demo version on play store, known as the Cubasis LE. This one is way better and powerful in terms of features but the only reason I wouldn't say it as the best one is that
1. It's not available for all devices.
2. It's really expensive.
But if that doesn't sound like much of a problem, you can try Cubasis, it has more orchestral instruments, better synths, better visuals.
