ATTN ALL AT&T Customers....Check your internet package!!! - Touch Pro, Fuze General

Ok so I had a temp phone before I got my Tilt. Had unlimited internet on it and everything and when I switched to the Tilt I upgraded my internet plan to the $29.99.
Well seems like it didnt actually get onto the plan. My internet got cut off today and I called to figure out what was going on and it was because my bill was too much....i had racked up almost $3,200 in per kb internet usage.
Everything is being taken care of and I will not have to pay that, but I just figured I would just inform yall. If you have the incorrect internet plan you will get charged per kb used and AT&T will not contact you.

They really should contact you if anything on your plan is changed. It makes no sense that they do things like that and not tell you.

i got the temp phone for a week while waiting for my tmo contract to run out and when i called to get my number ported back over the lady went over everything again, plan info, add ons, etc.
thought it woulda been caught right about there...

I've been an ATT customer for 10 years and they consistently screw up billing, I have found if you call them they are pretty good about canceling additional charges.

Yeah thishas been talked about over at the kaiser forum. If you have a the 29.99 media max i beleive package you can have it as long as you dont abuse it. This will notify ATT that you are using the media max package that is not intended for PDA;s. They will then unleash gods **** on you which you will obviously fight off then buy a regular PDA package and att wins.

I must agree - I had a similar instance. They managed to cancel my original text messaging plan (1,000 for $10), and instead of putting the correct one back on (it wasn't offered anymore), they gave me whatever was close to it.
I logged in to check my status one night and noticed it. Turns out some idiot at the store changed my number by mistake, then realized it. They switched my plan back for me, as well as gave me a credit on my account, which gave me about 2 months free.

That's a couple of billing errors in that post. Data overages are capped at $99 and should in no way reach as high as $3,000 as long as you stay in the country.

Seriously, guys (and ladies if any in this thread)
There's something called personal responsibility and why you would think that a mere $30 media net plan which is intended for non-PDA phones would suffice your PDAs needs is ridiculous. If you read the literature, it is more than evident and more than clear.

I'm not so sure the average person gets the difference between PDA plans and MEdiaNET plans. In fact, if you go to a Premiere site and read the descripion for the Fuze, Samsung Blackjack II, and several otehr "PDA" phones it states in the description under Software and Connectivity "MEdia Net -- Wireless Internet access (designed for mobile devices)*" so why on earth would the average person believe that these devices cannot be used with MEdiaNET Unlimited plans? For thaty matter, why would you beluieve that it could not be used with an Unlimited MEdiaNET plan? What is it in the description that you understand that the rest of us do not that we are being "ridiculous" to think that these plans were intended for our Fuze?
To make things more confusing, AT&T began offering MEdiaNET unlimited plans (starting at $15) for devices with full keyboards including the Samsung Propel, Pantech Matrix and Slate. So is the average consumer suppose to understand that the price is tied to the underlying operating system? Windows Smartphone Edition is $15, WM6/6.1 is $30, Symbian is $15, Apple is $30, where does the insanity end?

ok, i'm confused now. The offical data plan for the fuze is the $30 plan. What happened with me is that i havent fully decided between the fuze and my e71, so i called in and added the e71 back to my account and added the $15 medianet unlimited plan. i've been switching between the phones (more time in my fuze now) and when i check online, it shows the fuze as my phone and the $15 medianet plan is added to it... should i be scared? do they check regularly? if they do catch it, will they just put me on the $30 plan or would they charge me pay per use? thanks

I've been using Medianet for about a month now, coming off of using it on a blackberry, and I haven't had any problems. I check my online account regularly to make sure there aren't any changes in the data plan.

So you are saying that I can use my Fuze with the $15/month media net package instead of the $30 one?

can you? yes. is it the correct plan? no. are you going to get caught? probably not. do i need to stop answering my own questions? yes

Here we go again, I guess I have wasted over 180 posts regardind this SAME situation. I have explained in great detail over and over again how and why this happens. Maybe the mods need to modify the search button to 100pt font.

I don't think that I understood your other posts regarding Media Net on my pda...can you please elaborate? So can I use Media Net on my pda?

Before you start were you have no clue, read the facts.....
1. As far as AT&T is concerned, for a PDA you must have PDA personal 30.00
2. You can get away with media net 15.00, but you need to trick AT&T.
3. As far as the Op's post goes, he must have had a idiot change his account.
4. Whenever a "upgrade" is performed the system WILL NOT allow media net to be carried over or placed on to a PDA.
So if you want to say "poor kd8" I will say to you... When you have worked with SBC>>>AMERITECH>>>CINGULAR>>>AT&T, and know every aspect of the system and how to trick it, and even publish that info for all the users here to save some cash, once you have done that and become what I have with AT&T, then talk SHI* to me, until then DONT. For those interested on how to trick the system SEARCH "kd8dns media net" if you still dont understand P.M. me.
And of course if you don't have any data plan on your account you will be charged PPU "pay per use" and that is 1c per KB.

There is a difference between PDA PERSONAL and MEDIA MAX
MEDIA MAX---Regular non PDA devices---15.00
PDA PERSONAL---PDA devices--------30.00
As most know I can answer any question regarding AT&T.
If it regards your bill or feature's, P.M. me
I can explain all the tips and tricks.
As far as overage ALL ALL ALL data overage is supposed to be capped at 200.00
but this also depends on if the correct device's IMEI is updated on your AT&T account. Your online account is CRAP, it means nothing. The only thing that is accurate about it, is the fact it can tell what LOCKED AT&T device you are using. DONT TRUST IT EVER!!!!!
And yes, you can use 15.00 media net on a FUZE, I have personally set this up for at least 40 members here!

Thank you for all of the info KD8DNS. if possible could you PM me? I would like to know more about setting up my Fuze on the $15/month plan. I already flashed my ROM to Da_G's ROM.

Here is how ya do it (AGAIN)
1. place sim in a non pda device.
2. Power on, dial *#06#,
3. Wright the imei number on paper.
4. Call customer care and tell them you lost your pda and need to update your account.
5. Have them remove PDA Personal, and add Media Net Unlim (15.00)
6. Say Thank you, and hang up.
7. Place sim back in PDA and don't use more than 3gb a month.
8. You can even tether with this. Just don't go crazy.
Any other question's FEEL FREE to p.m. me, As I am here to help.

Bell $7 unlimited data plan for touch

So... about that $7 unlimited plan with bell...
WHOO DOGGY... what a story.
so my friend is the cell phone guy at future shop. one of the other employees there just got a touch with that plan. accoring to them and their rep. the plan is unlimited "mobile browser" but for the touch the mobile browser is data use with the exception of tethering. now we looked at the touch, there was no special browser or anything, just IE like the Titan. so...
i have had issues with my phone for over a year... im on my 5th phone (under future shop warranty) and im still dropping calls and calls dont come it. im 100% sure its not the phone.. im on my 2nd Titan and still... anyways... in a pissed off rant with customer service on saturday about all this i asked if i could get the unlimited $7 data plan offered with the touch. i said i would pay for it, i just want it. they said it was not an issue and it was done. i had it.
now before i saw the post about this plan, i heard all over the radio in kamloops here that the touch comes with a $7 unlimited data plan. and the bell dealers backed this up. so i browsed the internet all night. was streaming video and music etc. i checked my data useage through TCARE... i waited 2 hrs and texted TCare... it came back as 2.9 mb.. which is what i had before i started browsing. perfect... so i downloaded via torrent a 10 mb file... waited 4 hrs or so.. checked TCare.. still at 2.9 mb...so i proceed with some serious downloading cause i was sure it was all good now...
that was this weeked.
so this morning i checked with bell on another billing issue.. when she saw my current charges for this month she choked, coughed and sputtered, and put me on hold to talk to her manager. I had racked up $19,000 in data use in a weekend. this was because data devices do not have the capability to use the mobile browser service.
after a few hours of "dealing" with bell. they realized this was their **** up and will fix my account.
fair warning to any bell customers (or potential bell customers) regarding this plan.

So where is the scam, they fixed the problem didn't they? I will also add that you gigabyte downloaders ruin it for everyone. All you can eat doesn't mean you can or have to stuff your jacket pockets, you know
How exactly is this a scam? As much as I hate bell, they realized they made a mistake and they fixed it. I assume you didn't pay a penny of that $19000 bill?
This is standard fare for bell customer service. No news here...
the scam is that they are offering a $7 Unlimited data plan that isnt a data plan. its mobile browser. and data devices cant use mobile browser, they use data. and how do us "gigabyte downloaders" ruin it for everyone? unlimited is just that, with out limits... i should be free to do with it as i please. if i wasnt going to use an unlimited ammount of bandwith.. why would i get an unlimited plan. yes they did credit me the $19,000. but bell is now telling me there is no unlimited data.

That is a fact you did not include in your original story and I hope someone can come back a confirm it. Your limitless comment makes me glad they shut you down
I'm not going to argue about the definition of "unlimited". but this is just the same old crap they pulled with broadband DSL. Advertise "unlimited bandwidth" but with a maximum cap per month.
You should take them to court since they obviously advertise "unlimited mobile browser", but they make no attempts to define what "mobile browser" is. As we all know, http data/torrent data/ftp data/etc.... is all the same and everyone that signs up is signing under the pretense that it's unlimited data since they have at least clearly said that mobile browser is *not* "only WAP data".
I saw this coming from a mile away. I bet they left the definition of "mobile browser" open so that they can arbitrarily cut off the heavy users like you. Good riddence IMO. who in their right mind is going to d/l a torrent via a cellphone connection? I bet you didn't even limit your upload limit so you were uploading constantly 24/7...

The mobile browser thing is something that came up this morning. All weekend they have been advertising here in town "Unlimited DATA". On the radio, in the stores, no mention of mobile browser. Everyone is being told that this plan is unlimited data. That is why I said its a scam. The fact that I went about using the plan's "unlimited" feature is beside the point. Had I only used 100mb i would have been billed for that 100mb. The point of this thread is that Bell is offering an unlimited data plan, which is really unlimited mobile browser, for a device that cannot use mobile browser. Please stop flaming my excessive data useage, when thats not the issue at hand.
Well.. bell just called me regarding an issue I am having with text messages. This guy sounded like he knew what he was doing... so I asked him about this data issue. The Bell touch has been provisioned to connect to the internet VIA the mobile browser connection. The connection is the same as data, but it just connects to the $7 unlimited mobile browser plan, and doesnt bill data. That way they can offer unlimited data on the phone for now until they get unlimited data plans. Its been provisioned that way from HTC. The idiot who signed me up should have known this and not signed me up. Quick ending to the story.
If you go to this Bell page and click on the ALL tab then the Touch, a sub menu on the left says "Email & Internet" for 7$ a month.
EDIT: Then you've got the Media who, as usual, is completely confused and confuses everyone.

Actually, I think the fact that clowns are telling some guy that his unlimited surfing shouldnt be unlimited is laughable.
The OP does have a legitimate concern (though he went about it completely wrong).
Facts:
1) There is a promo for the HTC touch w/ a $7 unlimited "data" plan
2) OP misuses the unlimited data/mobile browser plan
3) OP gets pissed off when bell charges him $$$
4) Bell reversed the charges, but in the end, Bell's Unlimited "data" plan is not really "unlimited" nor is it for "data".
EDIT: purelitium pointed out the OP was using a titan. The $7 plan clearly says this only applies to non-PDA phones (which includes the touch), so I'm in the wrong. Thanks!
No he doesn't have any legitimate concern
1. He was trying to use a feature designed only for the Bell Touch(Vogue) on his Titan.
2. I've never seen it advertised as "unlimited data", it's unlimited Mobile Browsing, there is a difference.
3. Bell figured out their mistake, corrected it.
I don't see where there's a problem.
I'm on the $7 plan on Bell, and I've had no problems, because I'm using the proper equipment (Touch).

(for compatibility reasons and otherwise) stay the HELL away from samsung phones... There was nothing with what chancet said, other than (based on common sense) 'ruining' it for other people by having torrents, streaming non-stop 24/7. While I do agree that one should respect other users and understand that hogging network space is just going to cause other users to experience crapper service, the issue here is that Bell is stating that the plan is "unlimited" when in fact, it is not.
THAT's the main issue. I don't understand why people are so quick to defend Bell (or any company) as if they're going to get a reward or something.
Plain and simple, if using data isn't unlimited, don't advertise it as UNLIMITED.
Also, just because those of you 'experts' check out the forums 24/7 and know all the details, doesn't mean the average joe does! So you may know that they "never" advertised it as unlimited DATA but rather unlimited browser. Well I suppose the average joe is supposed to know the difference between data and browser? Let's see we have bad Bell reps who don't seem to know what they're talking about and do a good job of misinforming others (due to lack of supervision or simply lack of training). We have radio stations, newspapers, all calling it unlimited DATA (do a google search), etc. Please don't speak as if your knowledge due to being on these forums (as well as the fact that you're generally INTERESTED in telecommunications stuff) is the same as what the average user should know.
I bet if a users sends 10,000 emails or something Bell would still send em a letter for 'abuse' even though they are technically following the 'do's and don'ts' for unlimited mobile browser (no streaming, VOIP etc.).
It's definitely not unlimited. Stop advertising it as unlimited!

Got Fuze - How to get MEdia Max Back?

I bought a Fuze at no commitment today, and after I left the store, I noticed that the sales rep took off my MEdia Max 200 Bundle and replaced it with a PDA Plan. I had asked him not to touch my account.
So how can I get the MEdia Max bundle back? I have been poking around online in my account and can't seem to find a way. Any help would be appreciated.
have u tried puttin your sim in another phone ..changingit to the medis max online and then switching the sim back into the fuze??..idk ..jus a thought
Try to convince them that you're using an old phone again...otherwise I don't think you can get it back. Talked to one of the sales people today and he said they're really cracking down on that lately. I still have Media Max, so we'll se how long it lasts.
*Decided to check my phone before bed and I can't get a data connection any more...the salesman said they were actively blocking medianet data plans on these phones, looks like he may have been right.
Bummer. My old phone is a Tilt, and before that an 8525.
Manage your account online?
1) Go to https://www.wireless.att.com/olam/dashboardAction.olamexecute
2) Change device to something like the Shine or Vu
3) Change data plan to MediaNet Unlimited/Max
Doesn't require calling or otherwise lying to a person over the phone.
I can't say/promise this will work with the Fuze -- but it did with the Tilt.
I personally like AT&T's service, so I'm glad to pay an extra $10/month for internet service. YMMV so I respect others decision to pay less if the service isn't working well for you.

I just checked this in my account options and switched my phone from the Tilt to a Samsung A117, but the MediaMax bundles/options aren't available. It still only lists PDA plans, with a minimum add-on of $30/month for unlimited data and $35/month minimum if you're looking for a bundled text option (200 message). Things aren't looking good if they do a check on my features when I upgrade to the Fuze. Has anybody else had their MediaMax taken away/replaced who switched to a Fuze?
This is odd but a nice surprise...after my data stopped working altogether last night I checked it again this afternoon when I had time and noticed it was back working again. I checked my account online and it still has MediaMax, so I'm not sure what my issue was.
If you have an old phone that is supposed to be on Media Max like SMT5600, put the SIM in that phone, make a call, and also open up a webpage.
Now try to go online account and see if you can change the dataplan.
If not call customer care and tell them you have decided to return the Fuze and are now back on your old phone and would like MediaMax put back on the way it was before.
That's what I did and it worked for me
If you all do actually change your pda data to media net. you WILL NOT recieve your rebate, for those that have already done it, kiss that rebate goodbye. For those who have not, wait till you get your rebate then do the sim swap data change.

There not stupid, you have a 30 day return policy, cust care can see when you got it (its updated on your account) and if you have returned it, by the date of contract.
The same exact thing happened to me at the store. The rep. told me he was "leaving my account exactly as it is" and when I got home, I had no data plan attached. I angrily called care and demanded my Media Max plan back and was able to get it back but noticed the next day that my data plan seemed to be bottlenecked. In the course of calling tech support for help, they saw that I was using the FUZE, told me that I needed to change my plan for it to work, and then changed it. Low and behold, my FUZE is working as planned.
I may or may not try to switch back at some point to the MediaMax plan since I do have an old 3G handset lying around.
For those of you who are going to attempt to add an older phone IMEI to your account, make sure that your device is 3G capable or your account won't get the "UMTS Attach" feature which automatically gets added when you add a 3G IMEI.
i have a few different old phones lieing around and everytime i put my SIM card in one of those phones and visit the ATT website my device is automatically updated. However, i still can't enable media net. Does media net only work for the phones listed on the ATT site for media net?
Why is MediaMAX more desirable than the PDA + 200 text plan? Aren't both unlimited data and 200 text for $35 a month?
MediaMax is $20/month
You can get MediaMax with unlimited data and text for $35/month whereas the same with the PDA plan is $50/month

So basically what you are saying is, if your Media Max plan is taken away (and I do have one, using it on my current Treo 680 happily) when you begin using the Fuze you just have to suck up the fees for the high PDA data plan until you get your rebate back months later, then at that point stick the sim in another phone and try to switch it back?
Call me crazy, but I have a feeling that AT&T has implemented certain tracking features with this phone that were never present before, such as limiting internet access and being able to fully track usage and data plan automatically with this phone.
Reasoning:
1. I logged into my account online and where I usually see the feature "UMTS Attach", it was replaced with "Tracking Feature UMTS" from the date that I got the FUZE.
2. When I switched back to MediaMax instead of the PDA Personal Plan, my internet worked flawlessly until later on that day when I was getting bottlenecked speeds of 25 kbps max until I called care and re-added the PDA Personal plan.
3. HSDPA disabled by default and the normal reg. changes which would stick no longer function properly.
4. MUCH tighter feature control on this handset than on any handset prior to it: GPS doesn't even work until you download AT&T Navigator, TF3D is completely contstricted by AT&T customizations, Opera comes with AT&T proxies hidden buried in settings etc.
Overall, I think that AT&T has worked very closely with HTC on this phone in particular to reel in advanced users in an attempt to keep them in their walled garden.
Thoughts?

What im saying is when you upgrade to ANY PDA, the condition of getting your rebate is the correct feature. I.E. Pda Personal. When the rebate department check's to make sure its still active and the rate hasn't changed as well as the feature then your rebate is processed. If any of the required criteria has changed you will get a postcard saying DENIED. You really need to read the conditions of the rebate witch is stated on the rebate itself.
As far as the Rep changing the feature, this is a gray area. The upgrade of activation WILL NOT allow you to proceed unless the PDA personal feature is added. So in case of upgrade this is why most of you are seeing media net taken off. The rep is required to tell you if a feature is going to be changed, however when it is changed the WSA (wireless service agreement) you sign before leaving states changes made. Calling and griping will get you no were, due to the fact it is impossible to change back to media net if there is a PDA tagged to the account.
So you have a option, keep the PDA personal feature (it works better than media net anyway) Or don't get a PDA. However, when you go do your upgrade, new line, add on whatever. Make sure you know what you are getting. You would not get a credit card without knowing the intrest rate first would you?
You can do the SIM swap trick but wait till you get the rebate.
As far as the feature tracking and control on the phone itself. For the love of god FLASH A ROM. Most senior members and ROM cookers that have ripped the stock rom apart have a general idea why im saying this. FLASH FLASH and FLASH some more. AT&T really did a number on this rom!!!!

Quick question...
I currently have the $20 iPhone data plan and was wondering if I was to install my sim card into the Fuze would att know and how?
I want to keep the visual voice mail option in case some software comes along but if not then I can just use my old razor.
Thanks in advance..
You could do it for now but they will probally find out eventually as it appears att is able to read ur imei over the network and know what phone you use..
My wife has the Tilt with the $20 data plan and had it for a year already with no issues. My concern, is the iPhone $20 data plan differnt the the $20 Multimedia bundle plan?
I think I would have to change anyways since I am unable to send MMS, right?
Theoretically they can find out but I am sure they don't check each and every IMEI to make sure everyone is compliant. You can use the MediaNet unlimited(MNU) or any other unlimited data plan(iPhone) with the Fuze without any issues, I have used MNU on the Fuze from GoPhone plan that I had before I signed a contract to get the Fuze. The MMS will work as well because it's the iPhone that does not have MMS functionality, Fuze has it.
unlimited data plan
the sales lady at the ATT store here in houston said that they will detect the type of phone you are using, at if it is a FUZE, they will AUTOMATICALLY upgrade your data plan to the $50/month pda data plan.
She told me in order to the get the discount that comes with a two year agreement, i had to sign up for this plan. Currently i pay $35/month for unlimited data, so i just bought the phone straight up without the discount.
I had a nokia e70 and now i am using the fuze for about a week now. I logged into my att wireless website to pay my bill and look at data usage, and noticed that ATT had changed my phone/device to the ATT fuze.
So the definitely know what type of device you are using, but i am waiting to see if they start charging me $50/month for my unlimited data.

i recently changed from the Tilt to the Fuze and sure enough my type of device changed as well. However, i still have media net enabled.
Unlimited data for $50 bucks????
Don't they have an unlimited data plan for $30? $50 is absurd?
This begs the question then, can they find out if you use your phone for tethering even though you haven't paid for tethering?

They're totally full of it or terribly ill informed. I had nearly the same conversation in two ATT stores, except they were trying to push the $30 data plan on me. Net result was that if I wasn't prepared to sign up for data they'd give me $50 off for signing up for two years!
Anyway, I ended up checking my account online and upgrading through their website. $349, no data plan required. (note: I believe the $50 mail in rebate does require you have both a voice and data plan).
It's not just that the iPhone won't send or receive MMS, but you don't get the MMs service with the iPhone plan. I just recently changed to the Fuze from the iPhone and had to change my data and texting plan. However when I had the iPhone I called and told them that I used other phones for work(with the iphone sim) and they added MMS to my plan, after alot of arguing.

It wouldnt work.
I had the iPhone also right before i just got my fuze.
If you just put the SIM card in the fuze, u will be able to make phone calls, and text. But once you try to use the Internet, it will fail. You will be able to use WIFI, but not Edge or 3G connections.
When i went to by my fuze, they gave me a new Sim Card. And even WITH THAT...once i got home i wasnt able to connect to the internet using 3G, i had to call AT&T support and they said that they still had the "iPhone" information in their systems...so they were sending an iPhone Signal to my FUZE, which apprently was incompatable.
So, I guess the iPhone receives a different signal than "regular phones."
I also had $20 data plan. But now i have the $30 data plan for my fuze. Since the $20 iPhone doesnt exist anymore, since the the 3G iPhone came out.
Can you please explain what do you mean when you say iPhone uses a different signal? I still think you should try your SIM card with the Fuze before signing up for a more expensive plan.

yeah, it sounded like a load of crap to me too. unlimited data is unlimited data, i read as much as i could on the ATT website about my data plan and it does not mention what type of device you can use with each plan.
i am pretty sure she was just using some sales tactics to get me to upgrade my plan
this unlimited data plan ($35/month) also includes the unlimited text and sms. I know they used to offer all that for $20 a month, so if you were smart enough to sign up for it when they offered it you, you should be able to keep it and use it with any phone.
I was also told I had to upgrade from the $20 to $35 plan (unlimited data, 200 messages).
And they are able to detect your phone, I got the 8125 from ATT but when I upgraded to the 8525 I wasn't eligible for the discount and it was cheaper to get one on Ebay and move my SIM card over. When I got the Fuze they checked their computer and saw I had the 8525 even though it was off and the SIM card was now out of it (they must have checked and updated sometime in the last 2 years).
If you want unlimited data just own up to the fact you've going to pay more.
what i've been doing with cingular/att since the wizard days was place my sim card in a non-pda device, like say a motorola razr or something simple like that. Call them up and tell them you are no longer using the PDA (be it fuze, tilt, 8125, 8528 etc). They'll see what phone your using, actually they'll ask for that phones imie, put it in there system and allow you to switch to the $15 unlimitted medianet plan for non-pdas. Then switch your sim back into your pda.
I'm currently using my tilt with the $15 unlimitted media net plan and have been using this plan with my past 3/4 winmo ppcs. I even tether quite a bit and, knock on wood, haven't been "caught" yet.

im not really sure of details, but that is wat i understood when i called the Customer Support and thats what the tech guy told me
But yea, i guess u should try it and figure it out
also if u use the iphone plan on another device and you get a voice mail, you will recieve a jibbirish text message which is what communicates with the visual voicemail on the iphone.

Are you sure this isn't because of the proxy in the Fuze settings? Because when I swapped my sim from my iphone to a n82 or a tilt when I test drove one, the connection worked perfectly though I still couldn't receive any MMS....
$19.99 a month
I have an old 19.99 plan. It works with my iphone, tilt, and fuse.
When getting another phone, they liketo change you plan around but after a couple of call ins, they can put it back on. I also have an older phone (like 5 years old) that I give the imei number, they change my internet back to the old plan, ...
Everything works fine.
I know it works for a fact!
Now if you just bought the HTC Fuze and want a data plan of course they are going to tell you its $30/month because its a PDA. They already have your IMEI number from your purchase when you walked in that store or called att to buy this phone.
Also, each time when you call the sales/customer support please be advise your conversations are monitored in their notes so if you try to be slick and thinking you are going to pull one over them they already have your previouse conversation in their systems.
This is how its done if you want to save $15 a month then listen up!
1) Wait until you get your mail-in rebate check becuase they will check.
2) Call ATT and tell them something funky is going on with the phone and you cant use it until you can get a replacement
3) Tell them you are going on a business trip so you cant wait until they ship the phone and you are going to have to use your old Motorola V300 or anything old laying around.
4) They will ask for your IMEI number and give it to them
5) Tell them you dont want to get charged $30 or $35 for this and give you the $20 Multimedia plan until you get back a month later. (They may say we will pro-rate your bill. Tell them NO! because you had issues before with being pro-rated, just change it until I get back)
6) Dont send your phone in because you have to leave in two days and dont have the time now, you will exchange it when you get back. If they send you another phone then dont accept it when its mailed or just exchange your phone and dont call back.
7) Change is done in their system and there you go..
REMEBER: You are the customer, so when they start to tell you they cant do that or push you away then tell them..THEN GIVE ME SOMEONE WHO CAN HELP ME!! Show your frustration from waiting and different information from their sales reps. Stick to your guns and dont back down. You may need to find someone who actually cares about their job and you can tell who they are..
Good Luck
This is what I noticed between the the iPhone and Media Net data plans.
*iPhone:
Pros:
-Unlimited Data, Visual Voice Mail, 200 text messages
Cons:
-MMS Disabled
*Multimedia Net
Pros:
- Unlimited Data, 200 Text Messages, MMS Enabled
Cons:
- No Visual Voice Mail, Not for PDA's
I had the MediaMax200 plan on a few phones and it worked fine on all of them including the 8525 PDA. I was going over my 200 text limit so I tried to switch to the MediaMax Unlimited text plan for $35. Everything seemed fine, but I got an email that stated I was using a PDA and the MediaMax Unlimited wasn't eligible for my phone. They removed all plans from my phone and said they were gonna charge me for each text and internet pay per use. I just said screw it and got the $50 PDA unlimited plan, (My work discount gives me a 22% discount on this though, so its under $40)
Anyways as long as you don't change data plans, they don't care or check.
Also I was very upset about what they did, so now I abuse the crap out of my data plan. I send thousands of texts and use a crapload of data just to get my money worth.

AT&T has just changed Unlimited Internet Usages terms, can I cancel without fees now?

AT&T has just changed Unlimited Internet Usages terms, can I cancel without fees now?
At&t has changed their internet usage terms to include the banning of audio/video streaming and data tethering. This means Skype, Slingbox, and other video streaming services possibly youtube...
http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/03/...s-terms-of-service-to-forbid-video-streaming/
While I do like their coverage I find all these limiting factors extremely frustrating. I did not agree to these terms when i signed up, the only thing i agreed to was 5GB cap which I was not happy with either... I use skype a lot to call my family who live in Canada and enjoy the occasional slingbox stream but if i can't do these things anymore what the point of 3G, crappy web browing on a 2.8" screen? What I do with my bandwidth is my buisness as long as I don't break that cap i agreed to right?
Since they changed the terms of usage am I allowed cancel my service without early cancelation fees? If so I will be taking my buisness to T-Mobile and getting the new Touch Pro 2 when that comes out but until then I will be using a non 3G month to month payment plan

Honestly, I believe a lot of TOS agreements are like this, no matter who the carrier is.
As long as you stay under the 5gb cap you should be fine. I think the reason they put this in there is because those are the things that use the most bandwidth.
You can always call their retentions department and tell them why you want to cancel and talk to them. I believe if they changed the TOS and the TOS was a part of your contract then they're voiding the contract, but I'm not sure about that since they're not changing rates on you.
Well I realized that there isn't really a way for them to track what i'm actually doing but I think this is just rediculous, ATT should really take out Unlimited wording in their advertising.
Another reason I want to cancel is month after month I have to deal with bills that absolutely make no sense, I was happy with T-mobile for over 4 years with no problems and the only reason I went back to ATT was because of the FUZE.
My area has a lot of competition for wireless contracts and that how I scored a free ATT Fuze, I bet with a little patience I can get a free Rhodium if I look hard enough...
ok when u meant unlimted internet usages are you talking bout the "personal PDA plan?" or the "tethering plan"??? cuz i got personal PDA plan on mine and i go on youtube through my fuze alot i dont see any changes whatsoever...plz someone tell me
Just a thought..... they are NOT going to enforce that because they have 3 services that they offer that include it... Cellular Video (CV), Mobi TV, and whatever the Mobi XM radio service is...
Just don't go over 5GB and if you do, chances are you can get out of it. If you get charged, PM me and I can tell you how to get out of that one.... ALSO, for those of you who don't know, a change in your TOS is a way to get out of your contract and cancel service without paying the cancellation fee... just a thought... Google it for specifics on what to say on the phone... their TOS has a loophole for you that will allow you out if they change something....

You won't see any difference until you go over the 5 GB per month limit.
Well it doesn't really matter what plan your on since this pretty much affects all 3g wireless connections and the 5GB limit applies to everything including broadband usb connect thingy.
Nowadays it easy to stream large videos, like yesterday while i was waiting at the doctor's office i decided to watch a short 30 minute episode of "Better off Ted" and that easily went over 130mb. I never used more than 2GB a month but there are alot of people who use their phone's 3g much more than me so i imagine they get pretty close to that 5GB.
The way I see it is since they revised their TOS it will make it harder to argue your way out of a large bill.

seems like at&t has a problem now...but im always on MSN messenger, and surfing on opera, myspace, here, youtube at times etc....u think i might reach pass my limit by the time my billing cycle ends? i mean i wont be surfing 24/7 on it but ill be on msn messenger constantly oh and also i listen to the internet radio like 2-3 hours a day...i need ur advice thanks
UPDATE: ok soo i called in AT&T about this and well they only said its gonna against the Tethering and USB broadband services NOT the Unlimted PDA Personal plan that u can get for $30 a month, soo i guess its all good...for now
My friend just got out of his contract because they changed the TOS and he wanted the g1 (android) phone so he called them up told them he didn't agree and if they didn't let him go without the fee he would sue. They dropped him like a hot potato lol
Last mont I went way over 5GB tethering, torrenting and watching hulu all the time. No word from att yet. already paid my bill. No extra charges.
I have unlimited PDA personal+200 txts. No tethering. I reviewed on att website and as far as I understand that lingo, 5GB limit pertains only to PDA+tethering plan and to Dataconnect (for laptop cards).
See it yourself here: http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-phone-service/cell-phone-plans/pda-personal-plans.jsp
Here is my data usage directly from my bill page:
Internet/MEdia Net
UNLIMITED
Used 11054.71MB of Unlimited

$10 unlimited media max web question

i got a question for all you guys using the (dumb phone) internet on your Fuze.. i have got an unlimited messaging family plan and they said i could add the unlimited web to a dumb phone not my fuze... so i gave them the imei number off an old razr and now they have my fuze and the razr on the account on the same line... i told them i only use data on the razr and i use wifi on the fuze... so my question is (i know this has been talked about before) am i all good or can they tell the difference between when im using the razr for data or the fuze for data.... the only reason im asking this is because they know im running the fuze on the same line also and i dont know if they can tell the difference?
They can't tell the difference. I've done exactly the same thing as you stated above and I've been using it this way for months now with no issues.
your good
yea - same here - got the media max 200 and use my phone to skype, slingbox, modem when on road trip ever few weeks and log into my camera system to view live streaming videos - use about 150K KB a month on average.
You got no worries!
sDs
I have done the same thing. I have Unlimited Texting and Web for $30
Just make sure to swap phones a day before calling AT&T about your account. And make sure that they didn't take your plan off once in a while. I do streaming download mp3's, P2P and more.
thanks guys... thats what i figured... i just wanted piece of mind that i was going to be ok using it.... and i only use it for light browsing anyway... but should i switch and use the razr sometimes or am i good just using my fuze 100% of the time
you can use ur fuze 100% percent of the time. this has always been a grey area for at&t but u paying for some data is better then none at all. i too have done the same for years now. its hard to seperate who uses what in terms of kb. yes pda's use more data but with the likes of celluar video and other at&t media features, even regular devices can use a lot of data. enjoy!
I've kept the same Data Package for years. I upgraded to a Fuze from a Samsung Blackjack. The sales guy told me some BS line like, "well the Fuze requires a faster data package because the Fuze is a faster device and the data on the cheap plan can't keep up."
I actually don't have any other phone's IEMI number on my account other then my Fuze. When I call Customer service or visit a store, they say I need the bigger plan but I tell them that it is working perfectly fine and to leave it alone.
ha ha i love squeaking by... these big carriers make hella dough... i just think its bull that both plans work exactly the same but they charge you more for having a more expensive device
Now will I get 3G service on my FUZE if I gave ATT an IMEI of edge/2G dumb phone?

Probably but I think MEdia Net would be cheaper
Yeah you will get 3g no problem, as long as its in your area.. There is nothing different between the pda plan and the medianet plan..
I pitched a fit to ATT one day about it, and I was told becuase my phone had a keyboard they want me to use the more expensive plan.. I guess because I can type in websites faster lol =/
You guys who use medianet, how much data do you average a month that you use? I think I use in the range of 200-300MB, I try to limit though to stay under radar.. lol
**edit**
Also not 100% sure on this, if you will get billed extra rather, but make sure you are using wap.cingular for your gateway and not ISP.cingular.. Supposedly you could get charge every money if you use the isp one.
