Dev bootloader should == SIM unlocked G1 right?? - G1 Android Development

After updating to the new engineering SPL, I should technically have all the capabilities of the SIM unlocked dev phone has. Well, I found an old AT&T SIM, laying around and decided to give it a try. Unfortunately it didn't work, asking me for the subsidy code as soon as it was done booting. Does this mean that there is some sort of ICCID check done by Android and not the SPL? I really want to SIM unlock my G1, but refuse to pay for a code/wait for T-Mobile to give me one.

Simlock is not controlled by Android or its bootloader. It's managed by the baseband processor and the radio interface software.

That's bad... I think I have to pay to get unlock code... no software available to unlock G1 at this time..

Or...... you could just call t-mobile and ask them for the unlock code. It only takes a day or 2 which by now you probably would have had the code

theres a website that does it for you
pay for it but hey
you get the code with in 10 mins or so

AT&T Tilt Unlock Question

Hello, I am new here. I have been reading for days and days now, and I have come up with a question:
I have a brand new AT&T branded Tilt that I want to unlock. I found the Sim unlocker on the stickie. The question is this, AT&T has already provided me with the unlock code for my IMEI number, so if I just use their unlock code will it stay unlocked forever, even if I flash a new rom to the phone? Are there any benefits to using the XDA Sim unlocker versus the unlock code that AT&T provided to me?? Will I still be able to use the phone anywhere in the world with AT&T unlock code?
And what about those internet sites that claim to unlock your phone for a fee, do they work? Because a friend of mine wants to unlock as well, but is scared of the process found on XDA.
If the AT&T unlock code will work, how do I do it??
Thanks for any help.
Still reading!!

The Unlock Code that AT&T gave you should work fine. Once you do a SIM unlock it be will be unlocked forever.

How do I use the AT&T unlock code?
Sorry, but I didn't find any info on the wiki about that.
You put in a non AT&T sim card and it will ask you for a code. You enter a valid code and you are unlocked.
All the Unlocker does is find your unlock code due to a hack on the radio.
I wouldn't be suprised if some of these sites that sell unlocking actually wouldn't just sell the instructions available free on this site.
Its very easy for your friend to unlock his device. Just follow the instructions. Now, don't hold be liable but I'd say there is a 99% change of the hack working. I did it fine. Took me maybe 30 mins to read and then follow instructions.
No Worry, i did the same thing and works..
Call AT&T explain that you need to use oversea SIM at different country while you travel as for business. they will ask your IEMI code and email unlock code within 3 business day, i just get mine and work perfectly without worrying screw up the radio cracking method and $$$ free.
Great this was very helpful. I am hoping to purcahse a Tilt from At&t on my US account then use my China Mobile sim while I am living here in China. The reason I want the Tilt is for the Chinese language software Pleco. How has everyones experience been with the stylus and screen on the Tilt. Are there any other At&t based devices that I should look into or wait for?

I used the free SIM unlocker here and it works great. I like the Tilt, stylus works fine, my finger - not so much lol. I'm looking into getting the Fuze.

Going to Europe

I've got my TILT security unlocked with, new HARDSPL and have a cooked ROM and working well in the US.
I'm going to Nuremberg mid December. Is my phone ready to accept a prepaid sim that I buy over there? Or do I need to do more unlocking?
Thanks
you need to sim unlock
I think it should work. No worries there.
Really,
after all the mods and unlocking I've done "sim unlock" didn't get rolled in there at some point..wow.
So, can I just call AT&T to get an unlock code or have all my modifications messed up going that route?

sometimes they will give it to your if you call them and say you are going out of the country (like you really are) otherwise you can extract the code by your self. You can learn how to do that here. I've used it before, works great.
Well, after reading of the trials and tribulations of those who have attempted this I think it would be easier if I just called them and got the code. The questions now is, since I'm running 6.1 and all the latest and greatest, must I reflash 6.0 and spl's and all that to even be able to call them and get the code or will their code work no matter what I have loaded.
Damn these phones have some heavy security measures to keep folks from screwing with them. 1) have to have a hard spl so that we can flash without getting our spl's replaced everytime by the ROMS we are trying to load. 2) Security unlock needs to be done or we get stuck with radios we might not want to keep 3) sim unlock so we can run a different carriers SIM.
What else is in these things to trip us up...??

Downgrading to 6.0 to unlock?
you wont need to downgrade to 6.0 to put the code in. The unlock code they provide is attached to IMEI number and would unlock the regardless of what software you have installed.
Thanks, cingular is emailing me the code....Last time I did this with my blackjack it only took a few days.

We received your request for the device unlock code for the HTC IMEI ***********. If the equipment was purchased outright from an AT&T store, you will need to fax the receipt to 217-612-7800 ATTN: Device Unlock Team and include the name on the account, cellular number, and the IMEI number. The receipt must show the “full retail price” was paid for the equipment. If the receipt shows a discount was received for the equipment, we will not release the unlock code. Please review the receipt prior to faxing in the receipt to avoid a delay in processing your request. Please enter *#06# from the handset to view the IMEI number.
Thank you,
Device Unlock Team
figured tey might give you trouble.... you could call and complain, but it will probably take just as long as the unlocker and you may get nowhere.

No unlock codes available for LGL95G (Tracfone Straight Talk version of P999)

Just to let people know that if you buy an LGL95G (P999 hardware) from Straight Talk (Tracfone) you cannot ever get the unlock codes for these phones. Tracfone does not allow unlock codes for their devices to be in the manufacturer's unlock code databases; and contractually restrict manufacturer's from doing so. That is where all the unlock code providers, including my source, get their unlock codes from for LG phones. If you buy one of these devices thinking you can get a cheap unlock code please do not buy it. Also, Tracfone has their own carrier id (310999) so a sim from AT&T or T-Mobile will not work regardless if the phone works on their network with a Tracfone sim. The only unlock option is to find someone with special software that can unlock the phone, but this process is very risky and can blowout the IMEI or worse possibly bricking the device. IMEI repair can then be attempted but it is not always successful. If you want to use the phone with Tracfone Straight Talk service that is great, but please don't buy them expecting to ever get them unlocked.
i have a lgl95g and i pay only US20 in Nicaragua to unlock it  , and work normally with the sim of my carrier (Movistar), the unlock is with box service!!

Hardware unlock is the only available method as I stated above codes are not available. While hardware unlock has a good chance of success there is still the chance of bricking the unit as the hardware unlock downloads NVRAM, modifies it and uploads it back to the phone. If something goes wrong and the NVRAM that is usually never touches gets corrupted the phone is dead. You are lucky it worked for you.
The guy unlocked sucessfully 2 p999 without problems the mine and my friend's p999 both from trackfone the only thing is that i have RARE baseband ( i dont know if the baseband is of trackfone or the guy put in on in the unlock process) the baseband say NOV 07 2011 :S

Who can unlock those bloody TMOBILE UK handsets ?

I have a Nokia E6 from TMOBILE UK and nobody online is able to give me the unlock code for it... It uses some merged network or something.
Anyone ?!?! Unbelievable, first time in the world a company totally locked the SIM and no one in the world can open it.

I thought you need an unlocked bootloader first? To do that i did it with fastboot for further info goolg eit.
You can ask T Mobile for the code themselves. They charge £20 I think. But probably that's only £10 more than the net. Call 150 from your phone.

[Q] Need Quick Answer Sim Unlock

I am about to buy an unwanted contract upgrade Z3 but it is locked to another network. If I unlock it would this mean the bootloader is unlocked or not?
I do not want to loose the DRM protected camera features and the sellers network is refusing to give him the unlock code until he has had the phone for 6 (!) months.
The SIM unlock code will not touch the bootloader so your DRM keys will still be intact.

And using one of the paid unlock code services online is possible with the Z3?
I was under the impression that newer phones could not be unlocked this way and had to be rooted.
Root has nothing to do with SIM lock.
Usually the code works the same way whether it is obtained from the operator or a separate online service. However there is normally a delay from when the device is released and when unlock codes from online services become available. So I cannot say if they have them available for the Z3 yet.
As long as you use one of the reputable online services you should be fine as they will only advertise it if it is available.

You can use SIM unlock codes on network locked phones straight from the shop - so no rooting or anything needs to be involved. You just insert a different SIM, then an option should come up to insert the SIM unlock code.
It gets more difficult to find exploits for rooting newer phones without unlocking the bootloader. But that is a separate issue.
Hope that helps.
You are confusing two different things.
If your phone is SIM locked, you'll only be able to use it under whatever company's network it is locked to. It doesn't make a difference whether it's rooted or not or whether the bootloader is unlocked or not.
You can probably unlock the SIM lock through a paid service (IMEI unlocking) although with newer phones is a little harder to find a service that will do it.
Look at several unlocking services (there are many online) to see if they can unlock that phone before you make the purchase.
Brilliant. Thanks for the help!
Anyone care to recommend a good online service to use?
The carrier will do it for free usually. Find someone who currently has a subscription
They said it would be 21 days before they would release the code for some reason. I've used a paid online service although even they ae saying 7 days.

Real delivery time for Sony codes from 3rd party service is 3-7 days. These 3rd party unlock codes come from manufacturer (Sony) and they support all Sony models. No matter if the model is just released etc. If you are using good supplier with history and your phone has at least 2 attempts left to type unlock code (is not hard locked) it's very safe process. Good luck.
Not asking for code
I have a brand new Z3 locked to T-Mobile.
When I insert my own sim, it does'nt ask for unlock code. It also says at the top of the notification bar that the phone is network locked and I can only make emergency calls.
Can you please help me on how to get the phone to ask for an unlock code so that I can enter one and unlock the phone.
Thank you.
Device unlock apk.
Do you have that in your app drawer?.
If you don't go look in the mods n apps section I just posted a link to the app you need. There is no way to make the t-mobile D6616 ask for an unlock code. At least no way I found. T-mobile r jerks.

You are right about T-Mobile though!
Thank you for your response and I will keep trying...
