I am having a problem with picture messaging. When I receive them, they are only about 5 -10 kb and they are VERY tiny. Is there any way to set the phone to download the actual file size of the picture sent?
How I tested: I send a 95 kb picture to myself, and when it got sent back to me, it was only 5kb. However, when I sent the picture to my e-mail address, it received the entire 95 kb file. So I know there was no cap on the file size when i sent it, but why am i getting it back in a tiny 5kb? Any help would be most appreciated!
Ok, I'm going to update and bump this back up to see if there are any other reports. I'm also getting tiny pictures on all WM6 MMS messages I receive. I don't do a lot of MMS stuff, but my daughter sent me a 640x480 image and it came in as a thumbnail 160x120 size which is frustrating. I can send out images in full size from WM6, but all images coming into me are scaled.
I've verified that in the MMS settings, Photo Resolution is set to Original size (i've even set it to every other size and it still doesn't matter, all pics received are 160x120).
Is there anyone out there running WM6 that receives full size images? If so, which WM6 rom are you using? What version of Arcsoft is on your phone? I'd like to try to get to the bottom of this.
Just got off the phone with Cingular and HTC. Decided to call Cingular as I saw on another forum (for another type of phone) that if the celluar provider doesn't have the info on your phone then their system will scale pics to small images like 160x120. Cingular of course has no clue about this and claims its an issue with the device so they put me to HTC. HTC checks a few things then puts me back to Cingular...
What I can see is the message I'm sending has a size of 71K and contains a 640x480 image (by doing Info on the objects in the MMS composer of my sent messages). But the downloaded message is only 11K and the objects info shows the downloaded image is 160x120. So this tells me the scaling is happening elsewhere (I even turned off automatic download and I can see the header message I receive telling me that the message size is smaller than what I sent, so its already been scaled).
So is there something on our phones that send info up to the cell tower that tells it what type of phone this is? If so, could it be that WM6 is sending a code that isn't expected by the cell company, so they then scale it to the 160x120 size?
Here's a link to the forum note I found about this similar issue on a different phone. http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=131824 In that thread, it just started working (so they are guessing the cell provider fixed something on their end).
Thoughts? Comments?

Most likely Cingular has a database of their "Official" phones and what resolutions they support. Their system is probably configured to send the small image to any phone that has no entry in the database. The only way you are probably going to get full size images is for cingular to add your model phone running win mobile 6 to their database of phones. My guess is this will be next to impossible to do so youll have to live with it or switch to a provider that wont limit your MMS picture sizes based on phone. If you can get enough wizard users to complain to Cingular they might do something about it.

Yeah, the more I research this, the more I think this is likely the case. Cingular wants to send me a replacement phone (some guy called me back tonight ) said, the guy I spoke to had talked to him aobut my issue, and he was authorizing a replacement for it. I kindly told him I'd have to think about it as I'm not ready to rebuild this phone (little do they know I've done that multiple times in the past few days .
Tempted to fall back to AKU3.3 and test it there (I didn't test MMS any). I've started questioning what WM6 is really buying me right now. Its been fun to play with. May have to switch back to see how it feels and then decide whether I stay on WM6 or not.
This may be your picture size fix.
I'm actually using an 8525 Hermes and not an 8125 Wizard, but I had the exact same problem as you. I think the problem lies somewhere in the setup of the Cingular MMS, GPRS, and Media Net settings. I'm not positive about that, but I do know that (at least for me) my picture downsizing problem went away as soon as I used the Cingular cab file developed by shogunmark, which can be found in this thread.

So if any of you are on Cingular/AT&T and having the MMS picture sizing problem, try the cab. It may be just what your Wizard ordered!

Dude! This fixed my problem completely. Just sent and received a couple of 640x480 images with no issues! Thanks a ton for this info, I honestly thought running WM6 was the problem, but it was in how I was setting up my connections... Very very cool
FWIW: I actually went to the first post of the thread (they are keeping that one updated) and used the second cab in that post:
Cingular WAP MediaNet MMS Settingsv2.cab . I also removed the stuff I added so there weren't extra settings.

Are your MMS settings correct? TMo's instructions have a mistake in them for the IP address. Check and make sure your IP address ends with .50

I am on TMO US, I can send and recieve MMS.... But I have the small video & pic issue. Will try fooling around with the settings, but it seems simular to what the Cingular folks were having.

I can check that, but that still wouldn't explain not receiving any MMS... I know there is a CAB file to fix it, but it's for Cingular... I suppose it wouldn't be wise to try that, would it?
It is set to send "original size" but that wont affect "receiving". My MMS sends the entire file size, but all pictures received are 160x120 or smaller. Its annoying.
I have T-mobile.
FYI, my mms works fine with WM5. I first thought that maybe T-mobile had a server issue and downsized pix. But then when i went back to Xelecin's custom 2.6 rom, it worked fine. I even tried the standard t-mobile 2.26 rom. I am only getting small pix with WM6
Possible T-Mobile Fix for Tiny Pictures
Hey guys I was looking at this problem with the tiny pictures coming through on the MMS. I didn't have the problem on MBE but I flashed Not Too Smart's ROM and found this problem. One of the possible solutions I came up with was to unlock the Extended Rom using the UNLOCK EXTENDED ROM WIZARD and the running the setup file to restore this to a T-Mobile (branded?) Style phone. It will keep WM6 on there but add on the other features from the T-Mobile WM5 ROM such as OZ instant Messaging, T-Zones, Hot Spot Locator, as well as all the default settings for SMS, MMS, and EDGE.
As soon as I can get someone to send me an MMS, I'll let you know if it worked.

I don't know. I would assume that Faria's Etended ROM would have over write the T-Mobile extended ROM.
I have the files in a zipped folder, but for some reason I keep getting upload errors. Any help?
Just unzip the file and throw the unzipped folder onto an SD card. When the card is in your device, launch the autorun program. Hopefully it should work. I would probably delete all the previous MMS settings, and GPRS settings that you placed previously.
I know this is a bit old, but I've never managed to fix the problem and I just received a picture message, so it jogged my memory
I've searched the forum, and it seems that everyone having the problem of receiving small pictures in messages has fixed it with either Cingular or T-Mobile cabs. What I'm wondering is, has anybody found a proper fix for it that works whatever network you're on?
I'm on O2 in the UK, and haven't seen anything posted specifically for O2, or in general for people not on Cingular/AT&T or T-Mobile, but I'm hoping someone knows what I can do!
I'm on T-Mobile USA and I have this problem with Crossbow Reloaded 1.7. I've tried searching and CANNOT find a FIX! What are these cab files you're talking about... Do you have a thread you're reading this from?

For everyone with small MMS issue, install this fix. It worked like a charm for me.

worked like a dream - had a quick look at the changes it makes - all in the registry, seems to use a nokia xls for the formatting rather than the htc one... weird...

I really like the yahoo/msn/aol messaging applications that comes with the ATT 8925 ROM, is there any way to extract this program for future use on future cooked ROMs? I'd really like to use the Kaiser ROM on my Tilt, but I really like the messaging App found on the ATT Tilt ROM. Anyone know where I can get the cab file for it? Any help on this is greatly appreciated.
well im+ isn't to bad i think you can get it for free if you know what i mean
I also heard Cerulean Studios is working on an ppc version of their upcomming Trillian Astra.

Check and make sure you are using MediaNet as your ISP. I use wap.cingular and the only one I have ever gotten to work is Yahoo...
are there any clients that'll work on tmobile's network using sms? that's one thing I always liked about old motorola phones on generic firmware.
oz
I had a oz program on my tmobile wizard and it worked great but this one doesn't work for me I have a kaiser with the stock rom and liked this on my buddys tilt?
your post inspired me to do some searching to try the wizard tmobile oz im on my kaiser. I found this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=260893
installed the oz on my phone. I use tmobile usa. I tried a logon and got an im on my computer saying I logged in on another device from aolsystemmsg. But the oz client seems to die. I get to receiving buddy list, and then it says communication error. Doh

im running the OEM Kaiser ROM and have had no problem using the OZ messenger (i only use it for AIM though. haven't tried yahoo or MSN). as someone else points out, make sure you are using MediaNet instead of MyISP. that was the first thing I did when i flashed the new ROM. i checked the default internet connections in everything and made sure it was all set to MediaNet (i also removed the proxy within the MediaNet settings but doubt that that would effect it).
WOOT! Thanks been looking for this and it works on my 8925 I'm using yahoo and aim.
My brother has a vzx TP2 and is having a problem that I can't find the answer to. I don't experience the same issue on my AT&T TP2 so I came here. His phone starts a new thread for every MMS he receives instead of showing the mms in an already existing thread from the same contact. For example when he sends me a number of sms they are all in one thread, then he sends a pic and in the same thread i get a little icon that i click on to open his mms. On his phone the icon is not in the same thread, his phone starts a new thread for each mms he recieves. I have searched the forums and not found anything (could be my search parameters) and I have scoured my phones settings to see if that is a setting. Now I know I have WM 6.5 and he is on 6.1 but my last phone had 6.1 and is functioned like mine does now, so I have to assume that this is either a vzx problem or a problem specific to his phone. Any ideas?
It's not a problem just the way it is. Which sucks by the way if you get a load of mms's, really disorganizes my inbox.
Posted this before to see if someone might know if it was recodeable but my post got treated like it had the swine flu! It's def a problem with the arcsoft mms software. I had an omnia with a different version of arcsoft and it worked fine.
Dont think you can port the version over though, way to integrated in the manilla system. I hate manilla, all spb ms3 for me.
Thats interesting to know. we both run spb ms3.5 and while mine runs well, his has the aforementioned problem and he also has an issue with the messaging program freezing and not opening requiring a soft reset. Does your messaging refuse to open sometimes as well?
I have the same issue with Sprint so it must be a CDMA thing. On my TP I ran an extracted version of arcsoft from the treo pro to fix it but tried installing on the TP2 and it doesn't deliver messages.
What version of arcsoft does the cdma tp2 come with?

Mine is showing version 5.0.94.128
Hmmmm unless I am looking at the wrong thing I am showing composer version 5.2.0.37 from arcsoft. Of course I have WM6.5 and a GSM version of the phone.
That would definitely be a reason there are differences. Did you check your brother's to find out what version it is running?
I am waiting for his reply. I do find it odd that my last phone (kaiser) when I upgraded it to 6.1 from the AT&T official release my arcsoft messaging client worked fine....I may have to see what version it is when I get home.
hmmm....I sort of just noticed this issue myself. I'm running the Verizon TP2 and it does indeed put MMS in a seperate thread. I'd be interested in a fix as well if anyone finds one.
Is there any kind of Solution to this my TP2 does the same thing every MMS is a New Thread and like chetqwerty said it really disorganizes the Inbox.
I actually thought this was done purposely. It was the same for me in 6.1 (6.5 too) on my TP2 and XV6800. I am used to it so I have no problem with it and I think its easier then going through tons of threads to find a pic or video.
Hi,
I've recently HardSPL'd my phone and installed EnergyROM Photon. The one thing I am missing from the stock ROM is the program/app called "Text Message Retry." It used to attempt to resend my SMS's if they didn't go through, now they are just dumped into "Drafts" and it doesn't try again. This was very useful since my work environment (networking equipment lab) has spotty service in some locations. Could anyone/has anyone seen a *.cab for this? I'm thinking about seeing if I could use SK Tools to pull it from the stock, via reflashing to stock and making it from there. However, I'm not sure if I could use SK tools to make a .cab from something preinstalled.
Any advice would be appreciated...
Also if there is another program out there that would do that same thing that would work too.
I presume your carrier is Verizon? I have seen this on a Verizon TP (1). I tried to extract it and run it on a Sprint phone but no joy.
I too, would like to see an "auto retry" solution for failed SMS.
That is correct, I'm using a Verizon TP2. I actually found one late last night, it was said to have been from a Samsung Omnia but it looks the same as the one I had, minus the icon. I've not seen if it works yet, so far no missed SMS's today.
It is located:
http://forum.smartphonejunkie.com/f551/omnia-package-189721/
I might go wander around and try to test it but we've been busy today.
Interesting... If you are a member of that site, please post the file here. I'd be curious to see if it works with Sprint phones.
Thanks.
I'm home now and have the .cab file, now lets see if I can upload it. I'm not sure if its working yet.
Does this actually work if your vzw? also that for a wqvga device. the font is super tiny
i wantr this app to but for some reason it did not come with my phone either. TMobile
I discovered that in 6.5 it is included as a service. I think it should be running on everyone's phone so I kinda gave up working on it. The reason it came in the stock VZW ROM was because that was 6.1
