Syncing gmail contacts - General Topics

Before I got my WinMo phone I had all my email accounts in outlook, along with my contacts and calendar. I consolidated all of my email accounts into my gmail account. Imported all of my contacts and calendar entries.
I downloaded my emails to my phone through an IMAP connection, I sync my calendar entries between the phone and gmail. Is there a way I can sync my contacts from my phone to gmail without going through outlook on my computer?
I want to eliminate the middle man (my computer) in all the syncing so all of my stuff is available through my phone or gmail so that way if i'm at a friends and don't have my phone or computer I can still access information if need be.
With the contacts, in case its not clear enough, I synced all my contacts from outlook to my phone when I got it. I then imported all of my contacts from outlook into gmail. Now I get a call on my phone and then add that number as a new contact. How do I sync that new number into gmail without going through outlook?

tried looking here?

I was searching syncing gmail contacts windows mobile instead of pocketpc and gsync wasn't coming up on my search. Ill have to give it a try later. OGG Sync says it does contacts but the only thing I can find on it is calendar.
Thanks for the help

Gsync doesn't sync contacts from the phone to google. Somebody has to be doing this?

Try nuevasync.com

plexo.com + rememberthemilk.com + mesh.com = complete outlook replacement
Is paid service ($50/yr) but is by far the best I've ever used. Will sync your contacts and calendar with device/outlook/google/yahoo etc. I also use rememberthemilk to sync taks online, and Live Mesh for files and photos. Using Linux as a main OS forces you to find all the best-of-breed non-MS solutions, it's entirely possible to ditch outlook and still have 100% functionality replaced with online cloud services.

[Q] Sync Calender?

So I have 2 main email Adresses conected with my Phone.
One is my Xbox live account and the second one is the Primary calender and Gmail account I use. Both are Gmail Accounts.
The Problem is that the calender syncs neither of those accounts.
How do I fix that?
it is set to Sync in the options.
Thanks in advance!
wp7 can currently sync the 'main' calendar from any of your email accounts. It wont sync either of them? It should be able to sync both calendars if you want to (only the primary calendar for each).
Thanks for the quick reply
so I tested it with both accounts. It does sync the calender if I enter the date on the pc, but it does not sync it back to the gmail calender if I create the event on the phone.
hmm..that is weird. I put things on my phone all the time, and they end up in my online calendar as well. Although I just use my hotmail calendar.
Try unchecking the sync with calendar box, and redoing it. I really don't know why it only sync's one way, maybe somebody else can chime in?
I know thats the weird thing.
So i did some testing the primary email acc is the [email protected] addy, but the main acc I use is the other one.
If i use the calender on gmail it wont work, but it will copy from the hotmail cal to the phone but not back to the hotmail cal.
And my main acc doe not sync at all.
it is very weird, maybe because I have two accs?
I just tested with my Google Calendar. Put in an appointment on phone, and it was up online within seconds.
Then I deleted that event online, and was taken off phone. I then added a different one online, and it was sent to the phone calendar almost instantly.
Worked very well, so not sure whats causing your issue

Outlook connector not syncing?

I downloaded the outlook connector and went through the entire tutorial and i believe i set up my contacts and calender correctly. All the contacts and calender entries from outlook are now in my windows live account, and are also on my HTC trophy.
The problem i'm running into is now that it doesn't actively sync and keep my live entries up to date. If i add a new contact in outlook, i dont see it in live or on my Trophy, and the same with new calender entries.
I feel like i'm missing something small, but i just cant seem to figure it out. I tried deleting the live calender in outlook and recopying it again, and that worked to show new entries, but it still does not actively sync with new entries.
Make sure you're adding to the right calendar and contacts, there is at least 2 of each, contacts will have something like contacts and then contacts from "live account username", calendar you'll need to tick the box for calendar from "live account username" and add your entries to that calendar to get them on your phone. As an aside do you only use outlook for your live account?
No i use outlook for business email, contacts and calendar.
I'm attempting to delete the entire Live account from outlook and also clear my contacts, and calendar from hotmail then add everything again. Hopefully it works this time.
So just so i'm correct in my way of thinking, once Outlook connector is configured correctly it should automatically sync your contact and email 3 ways between the WP7 Smartphone, Windows Live, and Outlook? and for most people is this working flawlessly?
Yes thats right, anything you add to Outlook against your Live bits will sync to Windows Live which in turn will sync to your phone and any combination of adding on one will update the other two, it's not instant but will all catch up eventually (think mainly down to how you have your sync intervals)
ah, now i see where the confusion comes into play.
Only the Live(hotmail) profile in outlook will sync with the rest. Not my original profile. SO that means if i create a new calendar item in my regular POP account, i have to copy it over to my Live account in order for it to sync with the cloud, and then my trophy.
Seems like the simpler thing to do would be to use gmail calender sync. At least that doesn't require redundant sync's.
at least we know that MS thought it through

[Q] An app or way to sync contacts, email, and other stuff without google?

As a lawyer, I need to be able to sync my phone to and fro with confidentiality for my clients. I was able to do this before with my palm treo(legacy device), but now that I have made the leap into the new smartphone age I realized that androids sync with google on pretty much everything so I was wondering if anyone has any idea how to sync all of the stuff on my sensation without sending any information to google.
Also what is this tmobile theme engine they are talking about in this post:
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/bring-elegance-to-your-sense-3-0-device-with-slate3duniversal/
When setting up your phone & using a gmail account, go to Accounts & Sync & uncheck syncing of contacts.
Then you can setup your e-mail accounts & contacts through HTC's exchange setup. This will not go throught google but will sync your phone to the exchange account directly.
Contact Sync
You could try using Microsoft Exchange as your email client. I use Exhange along with with my google email.
omar when i go into accounts and sync there is no feature to stop the syncing of contacts and also what is this htc exchange setup. Also i checked my gmail account and the contacts that are synced on it are only from the ones i input into google voice not my phone, but some contacts that are favorited on my phone show up on my gmail contacts as starred on android. So here is what im wondering: Does the phone only sync the contacts on my google account not all the contacts on my phone that i transfered for example from another phone

Your phone should sync each type of contacts seperatelty.
As for accounts and sync, tap on your google account and it'll open an another screen were you can choose (check) what you want to sync.
htc exchange, by going to accounts & sync > Add Account > Exchange ActiveSync.
This is only in case you have an Exchange Server to sync with.
I exchange email via Gmail only from my PC. I also have that same account setup on my phone (it is not used there), since Android requires it.
Since I do not want my Contacts/clients residing on Google's servers, I have Gmail sync turned off.
With Gmail sync turned off, can I now configure another non-Gmail email account, have it sync with my PC (direct via USB, Wi-Fi or Bluetooth), without these Contacts ending up on Google servers?

Sync contacts / calendar with Outlook to tablet?

Ok, we all know Google likes everyone to use their email programs but in reality there are millions of people using Outlook with email and has a ton of contacts in there. I've been searching all over the place and I cannot find a way to sync my Outlook contacts / calendar with this tablet. Is Google really playing this dirty, trying to make it impossible for people to do this? One of the reasons I liked Android was because of the freedom, but if you don't use "Google" apps you may have a big headache. I can very easily sync all my Outlook email/contacts/calendar easily with the Apple ipad/iphone. Even Apple realizes people use Microsoft Office/Outlook.
Try: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cz.psencik.simple&hl=en
Or:
Calendar: http://support.google.com/calendar/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=89955
Contacts: "If you Export your Contacts CSV file in DOS format instead of Windows, your Google Contacts will sync like a dream." -every website.
As stated above, what I did was export a csv from outlook, and load that into my gmail. Contacts synced. The next thing I had to do was get gmails app "Google Calendar Sync" that runs on my computer. It periodically updates (both ways) my outlook and gmail calendars so they sync
I used Google Calendar Sync before having access to an Android device, which took over the calendar maintenance. I have no clue, however, if it still supports the current versions of both Outlook and Google Calendar. Back in the days it worked beautifully though.

[Q] Why New Contacts App Has Syncing Issues?

Some of my newer contacts are not synching with either my Google Contacts or my Outlook.com contacts. I'm on a Nexus 5 running Android 5.1.
I use Outlok.com for my primary repository for contacts and calendars, however I use GSyncit add-on for MS Outlook (desktop) to sync my desktop Outlook contacts and calendars to Google. This way I can use Outlook.com or Google Calendar / GMail to access/share my calendar and access contacts depending on the situation.
Everything is working fine on the desktop end so that is irrelevant to this problem (so probably shouldn't even have wrote the above paragraph - but just in case.)
I see there is a new Google Contacts app on the phone and on the web. I noticed this when I clicked on the People app and it said the app was missing. When I go to the web version of Google Contacts via my Google account, there are no contacts there! All my contacts are still in Gmail though of course.
I see that when I attempt to edit an older contact on the phone, it first prompts me with which Google account I want to sync with. I don't need to sync my phone contacts directly with Google, I just want to sync with Outlook.com -> Outlook -> Google (via GSyncit) but I suppose it wouldn't cause a problem if I just had the phone sync to both accounts (probably will then need to disable GSyncit contact sync between Outlook desktop and Google).
What is weird is that it is like Google made the mistake of launching this new contacts app, but there's no notice or migration instructions on the changes with the new app. I just happend to discover something was "unhooked" by trying to edit a contact! I just discovered the new Contacts app on the web by Googling, Google Contacts. I'm technically saavy and somewhat of an Android Wonk, and am surprised this is all a surprise!
Do I have to go try to edit every single contact on the mobile Contacts app now to select which Google account it syncs with? I HOPE NOT!
At the risk of appearing dumb I'm leaving my original post for background. It appears this is (not surprisingly) all a Microsoft issue. When I went into the Outlook.com app on my phone, when you click on the Contacts and Calendars Sync setting, nothing happens! Come to find out this app is no longer on the play store. It appears to have been replaced earlier this year by the Microsoft Outlook Preview. Installed that app, and it doesn't and an account type to the phone! So it appears, unlike the Outlook.com app, it won't sync calendars and contacts with the native Android calendar and contacts app. It's as if Microsoft is trying to make you use their new app instead of the stock Android apps that just sync with the Outlook.com account? Please say this isn't so!

Title: How To Sync Contacts & Calendars with Native Android Phone Apps?
Reply
Hi,
Unfortunately , by design, it is not yet possible to sync your Android phone contacts to your Outlook.com account.
Note: At the moment, you can only sync Outlook.com contacts to your android phone.
Please provide your suggestions/opinion as a feedback to the development team. To do this, click on the gear icon on the top right corner of Outlook.com homepage and select 'feedback' from the dropdown menu.
Hope this information is helpful.

However, this isn't that big of a deal as I come to find out, even though there is no longer an Outlook.com account type on the phone any more, you can use the Exchange account type and use server address: s.outlook.com and then you can sync everything. Why the MS Tech didn't point this out it baffling.
(big middle finger for you Microsoft)
