I downloaded and installed Google Maps Mobile, but can't find it on my phone (not in Programs and can't find the file using Google Search). I read on another forum that there is a cab for easy installation.
Can someone help me get it up and running?
Thanks in advance.

type in your number and it will send you the link to download the cab
Already did Google Maps Mobile install process
Thanks for the quick reply, Joel. I already had the link sent to my Fuze. I clicked install and it seemed to go through the installation process.
But I can't find the program anywhere in my phone. Am I missing where to look for it?
Please advise.
when you clicked the link did you rn the cab after it downloaded or did you just click the link and download the file
next step
I didn't run the cab because I couldn't find where it was downloaded to?
Can you help me find it?
Thanks.
try looking though your my document files to begin with, do you have a storage card
Not there
I looked in My Docs and nothing. Cabs usually install into Windows, but nothing there.
I tried Google Desktop search and XP search in my Mobile Device while synced to my PC and gmaps didn't show up.
I read about amazegps. Any thoughts on alternatives to Google?
you might try tomtom for turn by turn directions, but your phone has to support what phone do you have.
another way to find your google maps is to download it again and select where to save it so that you can find it
Thanks for the assist
I appreciate your taking the time.
I'll try downloading again, but not sure there is that option on my Fuze. I'll explore other GPS options.
On a last note, I have a 5 MB limit on Internet use. Does GPS eat up a lot of data?
Thanks again. Over and out.
Gps does not use data, however google maps streams the maps to your phone though your internet connection when you use it and only uses gps for your location.
On tomtom however the maps are local on your phone, and is free of internet restraint
try here..... it is in the kaiser/tilt section but it should work on your phone, you get to download one free map.

EDIT: ps you may need gps test to kick start your gps on

no, google streams its map data, you can't download their maps to allow you "offline" use

GPS Question: I know there is the paid AT&T navigator and also google maps. My question is, on google maps can you get voice guided turn my burn for free to avoid the $9.99 monlthy navigator subscription? If not is there any other free voiced guided turn by turn solutions in the android market for download?
App Quest: I heard that you only have "x" amount of memory to downald apps REGUARDLESS of the amount of memory you have on the phone or added by a memory card. Can someone shed some light on this for me.
Yes you can. Go to the market and download the update that's available for Google Maps. Then once in Google Maps go Navigate and it will tell you to download and install text-to-voice. AFter doing that, you get a "Navigation" icon in the applications folder, use that one instead of the AT&T Navigation one.

Yep, Just tested it out today (after removing the ATT nav app), and it works great. Took a while to pick up a GPS lock since its cloudy out today, but once that was sorted out, it worked just fine.
Hey,
Wish google maps wouldn't require INTERNET connection and would work offline.
Since this is currently a fact...
I'm writing an application on Android and looking for Map Lib SDK that will enable me to display objects(layer) on top of a map in OFFLINE mode.
Having problems find one. Will appreciate your help.
I doubt Google will add offline feature ever. I have modded Google Maps app and added maps caching (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=737119), but you need something for Maps API. I want to mod Maps API as well, but I have many more important things to do right now, so maybe in the future.
Thanks for the reply.
It sounds too good. I'm going to try that.
From you description, I just need to copy the zip folder to SD card.
I'm new to Android, but shouldn't I install any *.apk?
Appreciate your elaboration on installation method.
Another question.
Once it'll be installed, how to store maps in SD card and make google load them offline. When phone connected to the internet, will it take the map offline or from web?
Thanks
Ohh, I had mistaken. I wanted to give you this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=630887
But as I said: this is an app with caching, not Maps API library, so it doesn't give you possibility to cache maps in your own app.
Is there a place to download all US map info for the GPS feature on this device? I got lost today and it wouldn't ever establish a new route because I "lost data connection", but it continued to track my position just fine.
I would suggest using an alternative app. I use google map but have copilot as a backup. The copilot let you download and store maps on the device. Google map let you cache map tiles but to cache the whole US probably to big a file. If you must use Goole map only, check out the Brut's version

Do you happen to know when they last updated it? I Bought for my WM phone a couple of year ago & was really disappointed. That was because my address of 7 years couldn't be found. I ended up sending it back & sticking with TomTom. Unfortunately we are limited with Android with gps programs with down-loadable maps.
With the new version of google maps you can go to Labs (from the menu) and enable a limited form of map caching. It downloads 10 square miles around the area you long press on and you can use it without a signal. You can store up to ten so I basically stored my local area and popular places I go.
Google's obviously working on map caching and this is the first sign of it. Give it a shot and see if it works for you.
Double posted by accident... don't know how to delete.
Hello everyone,
I've got a pretty simple question which I sadly couldn't find an answer for and I was hoping someone could maybe help?
I am going on holiday soon and I've created a map on Google Maps on my laptop which is saved to my google account. Is it possible to load this on my Google Maps app on my phone so that I can use it (offline if possible) when I am away? It is just a map with some places I want to visit rather than a route etc.
I tried playing around with the app but could seem to get it working.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

At this case i don't know if it's possible, but if you use google labs from maps at your device, you can cache maps you need offline.
There is no possiblity to calculate routs with this offline version, but you can search for places.
Check it, with opening maps -> Settings -> google labs -> check cache map (i don't know what it's real name in english, sry, but i'm sure you will find it^^) -> go back to normal mapview -> choose the middle of the map you want to cache -> open this point and at the bottom should stand something like save map to cache or so.
With this method you can save 16x16km area around the point you chosen. Up to 10 cached maps are possible and they can overlap if you want to.
Zooming and stuff like this is possible like everytime routes calculation is not possible.
Many thanks Tectas, that is a big help. I just tried now as I hadn't seen this function before.
OK it doesn't import the presaved map but it's still a very useful offline solution.
Much appreciated!
Not sure which version it was, but I used to use Google Maps Off-line, and cache wouldn't expire (if I'm correct). Due to lobby or any other rotten (commercial) reasons, Google Maps Off-line is not available anymore in many countries, like (some) Brazil (cities), as an example.
So, I'm looking at the latest Google Maps version which allows us to download the maps again, and use it offline.
Or maybe a way to cache it without the need of scrolling it manually, at several zoom levels...
I don't know - Something that could help on browsing offline Google Maps.
Could someone help on this?
And also point me (us) to a location where to get and install it?

Is 6.14.1 the latest available?
I've found some 6.14.3 around, but I'm not sure if someone here has really tried it, successfully. [[[ DONE, and it's okay: ]]]
http://93.114.44.238/viewtopic.php?f=399&t=517147
Note 1: I have successfully installed the 6.14.3 version above, but I'm not sure if it works as it should due to the fact I'm looking at DOWNLOADING LOCAL maps currently not available anymore, that WAS available to download until some jerks decide we need to keep paying to access it from other sources; but I still couldn't. So, if you want to install and try the Google Maps 6.14.3 (Mod/Nav) and try it, get it above, and please post a feedback.
I just did this:
1. In Titanium Backup, selected Maps and cleared cache and wiped data.
2. I did the same with Street View, and uninstalled both.
3. Made a reboot.
4. Renamed the APK to Maps.apk (don't know why, but did)
5. Allowed unknown sources
6. Installed the APK
Note 2: I have successfully installed the 6.14.1 version (which may be the same as above links), and it worked as well. But NO solution for what I'm looking for.
http://forum.mobilism.org/viewtopic.php?t=417690
Bottom note: Then, you'll probably like the latest Google Maps 6.14.3 (offline Navigation Mod)
And, how can I download a map that is not available for downloading anymore?
Again, it used to be and I used to do it...
And many cities in Brazil are still downloadable, but not those that interest me.
Thanks for any input, and most important:
Enjoy!
I got update from g play for my map, before only, which saves the map and can be seen at offline also.
My problem was it created lots of cache on my sdcard..really annoying,so uninstalled.
Try disabling the log files, if that's what you mean : )
