are people still using tf3d? - Touch Pro, Fuze General

like the title really,
I couldn't wait to get my hands on my TP, however soon after I got it I realised that TF3D seemed to be all form and no function.
I immediately replaced it with Mobile Shell which I find much easier to use.
for example, when I want to phone someone, I hit the contacts button and I have a screen with 16 faces, I hit one and press call. In TF3D, I have to hit (or scroll) to the contact button, then scroll down again to find the person etc.
For text messages, I like to have the list on the screen that I can easily scroll through. In TF3D I can see one at a time only.
The downside...is that MS seems to be lagging behind on the themes front, and I like to have a theme that matches my mood...which is xmas at the moment.
so, my real question is what wonderful options are available to make TF3D more usable?

Unfortunately you don't have many options if your talking about changing the way that TF3D functions. There are a number of speed increases, and a few small tweaks such as the zoom function cab that lets you increase and decrease the size of the text messages in TF3D. If you like having all the contacts on one scren though, TF2D is like that. All the pictures are laid out like tiles. But with TF3D you can just click the contacts button on the bottom right of the screen and pull up all your contacts. TF3D wasn't really meant to be a full-fledged os; just a today plugin that you could use to see a good amount of information.

SPB replaced mine as well
Moved to Fuze (p4600) from p3600. Was using SBP mobile shell. Tried tf3d for about 2 weeks. HATED IT. Looks pretty, but takes too many steps to get to real work. Back to a snappy SPB Mobile Shell on my Fuze.

What time is it ? how do you reply to it with your PocketPC

Have you ever had a nice girl or someone asking you the time ?
surely yes. And I guess that most of you like myself do not wear a watch anymore and use their PocketPC instead.
Does any one know an application that could be assigned to a button to display the clock in FULLscreen mode. And then just pressing on the screen (or pressing the button again; a toggle button would be nice) would go back to the previous use of the PocketPC.
This way to would be easy to show the clock in fullscreen without having to start a heavy application.
Any suggestions for such an application?
Don't know about an app, but why not have the clock to always show in the titlebar?
I have the clock in the titlebar, but when you want to show the time to someone in the street it is too tiny, too small for the eyes.
rlToday looks really nice, but what I would like is just a pop with the clock. I have already too many stuff on my today screen, no space available.
I have just tried Spb Time, the screensaver screen would be perfect, but does someone know our I could launch the Spb Time screensaver screen with the push on a button ?
For this I need to find the command that does start it.
I Think u should try using Spb Mobile Shell...it's definately the right choice for ur need..
Try SPB Mobile Shell
Just released, adds a NOW screen when you turn on complete with clock. Press a soft key to go to today screen.
Using on mine, like it a lot.Only works with WM5.

it is quite nice... especially when driving! but it does only allow 2 screens, the today and the now screen.
Mike, Wisbar Desktop could be a solution, you are right.
I have actually tried it a long time ago, but thought it was just a nicer way to display shortcuts to launch application. Am I wrong or I haven't looked at it enough. I prefer to use the start menu to launch application (I use WA2 by the way, and the cascading start menu feature is really Nice).
Can you have 2 normal today screen with WAD and switch with one hardware button from one another?
I have also looked at Spb Shell, and it seems to me that it is a way to get a simplified and more nice looking PocketPC. But I find the default WM5 today screen more convenient, and I would have to remove WA2 (I guess they can not run both at the same time..)
The other issue it that if someone ask you the time, you have to quit what you were doing to display the clock on the today screen.
Hi Mike, So as I can see with WAD you can create several desktops, create you own shortcuts. But still I prefer to use WA2 cascading start menu.
As enclose I made a screenshot of my today screen. I thought again, what I really need is a kind of screensaver with the clock so that anyone not accustomed to using a PocketPC is not lost with so many things (I guess that even the top and the bottom bar displayed can be annoying) and can just read the time. I going to investigate the command that has to be used to start 'Chronos' screensaver.
try ae button plus

Changing Contacts to Touch Flo style

I love the new Touch flo interface. Perhaps I am asking too much but is there a contacts program with this type of interface? It is the biggest thing I notice when using the phone - most other programs are nice and black/grey but the contacts is plain old WM style. I have the random access installed which helps a little but I would prefer the whole interface. Any suggestons?
Thanks
Allan
Have a look at PocketCM Contact
Its not bad but feels a little buggy in use Any other suggestions?
Contact program
Try vito contact fun. amazing contact program. wery good and colorfull.
Bjørn
Norway
Do you have a link to it?
Thanks
Allan
Allan,
Link is here : http://iwindowsmobile.com/contact-manager.html
Although a little confused about why you say PocketCM feels buggy?
I've used it since it came out, think it's a lovely piece of software (and considering it's free it's a right bonus!!).
I installed it, changed the theme to Touch and my keyboard went down so I couldnt see the bottom menu options, the colours meant I could sometimes see the contacts, sometimes couldnt. I couldnt close it since it also got rid of the top start menu bar - just not nice to use really. I want something that feels familiar.
Get ya. The other link should be fine then, it's really nice, not used it much so don't know how customisable it is, but for about a fiver you can't really go wrong.
Had a look at the FunContact and it is better but 2 things wrong with it (1 Major, 1 Minor).
1) (Major) I do not want to wait a few seconds every time I access my contacts for the program to load - and I do not like the lack of button to close (have to select menu and then exit).
2) (Minor) Still doesnt fit in theme-wise with the HTC theme - customisable colours would be great.
So, I am still on the look for something to replace the boring old outlook-style contacts, anyone?
Thanks
Allan
this is the best, IMHO http://sunnysoft.com/software.php?idarticle=296
I have used both PocketCM and FunContact. I found PCM to run a bit slow on the TC even with the latest .20b version. FunContact is the more polished of the two but I found two annoying issues: 1) splash screen when loading the app, and 2) there's not a quick way to exit the app besides going thru several button presses.
The Sunnysoft app looks interesting but it has the same awful letter bar as the default contacts app. I like the finger-slide type of FC and PCM.
You could minimize it then the next time you open your contacts it will open without going through the prolonged startup.

Is Touch Flo3D silly junk?

I disabled touch flo 3d right away because it seems like pointless eye candy. It seems like a sloppy rough integration that is a greater impedance than an assistant. Or is it just me
Have you modified it with the tweaks to enhance the performance? All it is is really just another shell, your preference there.
its the first thing i disabled. in my opinion its pretty darn ugly...except for the weather thing, its kind of cute. but i like having all my stuff on the home screen where i can see it all at once
As you can see, you are clearly outvoted. They had the same poll over at ppcgeeks (How many are still using TouchFlo3D) and of the 320 people who participated,80% were still using it.

TF3D brings an essential level of style to Windows Mobile.
Surur
Style, schmile!
If I wanted style I'd have the Jesus phone that Apple makes - with one of the great cases from Vaja.
Instead, I want to look at my screen and gain information. On my day, on the stock market, on the weather and on the number of messages I am currently blowing off.
I too liked the weather bit. I also appreciated that TF3D goes a good job at memory management. Maybe when I get the time to learn how to customize it, I'll return to TF3D.
For now, though it is back to WinMob running Pocket Breeze in full screen mode with panels for pA and Pocket Weather.
I really like it. It gives me access to what I need to see when I glance at the screen (except tasks) and finger-touch access to programs.
It does screw up maybe once a day though requiring a soft reset. I applied the mods recommended and they made my TP freeze a lot so I changed them back to default.
It's actually a great enhancement to WM. almost everything that needs to be readily accessible is "touchable" no need to get irritated and use the tip of my nail to make sure I press it just right. Even the corner X close button works almost flawlessly because the screen touch area is now flush.
I know there has been some whining but this really is the best match, easy touch interface for the simple phone stuff, and the ability to use a keyboard and a stylus for things that just aren't feasable to use efficiently with a finger on a touch screen.
I'm a very happy camper with the Fuze... well except for that ****ing GPS crap.
I'd also like to add that I think most of us really created and adapted ways to be able to not use the touchscreen for a lot of things, and with good reason considering how much I hate using a stylus to navigate a UI. So I think a ton of us bring a certain baggage about using our fingers because it just really did always suck that bad. Which thanks to HTC it really doesn't now. Plus this screen may not be like the capacitive Iphone but man it's definitely a lot smoother, the word "silky" comes to mind with how it feels compared to my Tytn.
I'm not sure which one of the 2 voting options is meant to be good
Some people are just afraid of change. As there still millions of windows 98 users out there. LMAO, people need to move with the times
Touchflo3d is indeed the most beautiful interface I've ever seen. It remained for about one month on my mobile phone. After that I still installed pocket plus (the program who puts icons dirrectly on screen and used only one tab in which I put all my programs).
Reason 1: functionality. It takes several moves in TF3D to do simple tasks. For example if I am in the home screen I cannot start with a single click an app. I have to scroll (and be quite carrefull to go in the desired position) and after that start a program etc. Imagine if in Windows you would be forced to use start, programs every time if you wanted to use an program...it'll kill you. That's why we activate programs by clicking the icon on the screen after all...it's the fastest way. All in all, to be clear, if it would be a contest between a TF3D and a Pocket Plus-type of program, everytime the pocket plus device will "click" the application faster, while in TF3D depends on where TAB are you..
Reason 2: familiarity with Windows way of activating programs. As I said before it's more simple for me to simply activate the icon on screen and not bother with some paradigm of displaying emails or SMS (and related to that, do you want to be able that someone can take a look at your info by simply scrolling to that tab? I don't)
Reason 3 -not quite a reason, but a proof that this a better interface in my opinion: the simple-icon-on-display type of interface is actually validated by the Iphone which we all know as a beautiful device at least.
I like Touchflo3d, but I missed my usual today screen setup.
The easy answer is to use secondtoday, that way I get the best of both worlds, one tap on the screen switches between them.

maybe thats why I'm having so much trouble with the touch screen. I tap something,,,, wait 5 seconds,,, tap again,,,, wait 6 seconds then give up and get out the stylus. Maybe I should re-enable touchflo to stop this problem

James, you'll really find SPB Pocket Plus really nice. The thing with it is to remove all the tabs, as they really only generate useless clicks to navigate where your program is, and in final squeeze in one tab only the icons you need. I have 3x5 icons(with no text and large size enabled) and if I really think some of them I don't really need - like powerpoint and so on.To give an exameple this is what I consider usefull:Comunication Manager, Resco Explorer, HTC Album, Igo, Camera, Excel, Word, Coreplayer, sms, activesync, radio, opera, 1-calc (a very nice calculator) and notes. And supplimentary I have enabled the calendar and date plugins in today screen. This is a very nice setup - eficient - and if you set a non transparent background, very nice, kinda stylish look. Now, I have seen that you complained about precision of tapping - beware that in the margins and corners of display you'll have sometimes to get out the stylus. Give that pocket plus a try.It really made my days.

Definitely NOT at all. We must be on different spectrum of the universe. I like TF3D a great deal, make navigating the phone intuitive and seamless. It is just you.
Without TF3D, my Sprint TP would just be any other run of the mill Win Mobile big screen phone. My 39 cents.
TF3D is totally kickass! I love it for everything. Althought I do wish they had the map intergration that they have in TF2D. I also want the stocks tab and am waiting for the hd manilla to be perfected . Other than that, the original htc theme, with q-style font, my personalized background, tweaks from diamond config, and stock fuze rom, it runs pretty darm fast. Only did a soft reset once and that waas because I was attempting to run a qvga application and it crashed.

I agree. Let's not turn into a bunch of iPhone cattle. They stick to their phones like cult even when plagued with numerous problems.
Get SPB mobile. It blows TFTD out of the water.

touchflo 3d blocks access to system tray

Hello. I am a bit unhappy Touch PRO user because I love touchflo interface but would like also to use system tray-controlled software like openvpn or vsUtil.
I already installed secondtoday (also replaced the "Phone" softkey with it) but there is no way to make REAL tray icons appear there, only fake launcher stuff with Homescreen PLusPlus. The way left to access tray-controlled apps is to quit tochflo today plugin thru loooong series of taps thru settings.
I-d love an alternative such as make real tray icons still appear in Secondtoday or a lightweight tray icons porting popup app. Any other ideas/clues how to get an easy access to tray icons from touchfo....
Thanks for reading
Looking forward to hear Your thoughts
I agree.
My office forces us to use the Good email system. That software uses its own version of the email client, calendar and contacts. I'd like to reassign the tray "buttons" to point to the Good programs rather than being stuck with quick links to now unused versions of email, calendar and contacts.
Ira
Hi,
did you find a solution to the problem in the meantime?
Without the trayicons i have to choose between a pretty finger-enabled gui or using my universities WLAN.
Kind regards,
samoht
[double post]
i assume you are talking about enlargetitlebar which which gives you easier hits on the "system tray" notifications. you should be able to disable it in the registry. mess around in hklm\software\htc. there might be an enable dword you can set to 0. i dont have it installed on my rom and i kind of miss it so i may try to get it back on my next flash.
No, i refer to the system tray at the bottom of today screen as shown in this screenshot.
The manilla interface is drawn on top of it and theres no easy way to access it. I have to disable touchflo in the settings, then start openvpn and afterwars reactivate touchflo. This is annoying... too bad openvpn relies on this.
oh yeah. forgot all about that thing. havent seen it in years. try a tf3d to today switcher thing. ive seen ones that it changes the left home tab soft key to the words "today" which lets you have a second today screen and today items and i guess the system tray too along side tf3d. ill try to find it again.

Contact Manager, SMS, and Dialer Quesions

I am new to WM and I love all of the customization that can be done. I am looking at a few different apps to run along with SPB Shell and I can't decide what to do. I have three apps I am looking into all with pros and cons. If anyone can help point me in the right direction that would be great. Thanks!
Phone Extension
The main thing I like about this app is the fact that it has a dialer. Dialers seem to be few and far between on the Omnia (WQVGA). Everything else here is good but doesn't really jump out and grab me like the other two. When scrolling through the contacts it tends to get jumpy somtimes.
PocketCM
I love this app (especially with the htctoucher gloss theme) but it is missing two key components: a dialer and a call log (I know you can look at it along with sms, but I would like a separate one). My favorite part has to be the SMS feature. It looks so professional and I love the text bubbles. It does have a tendency to jump around and not run as smooth as the Resco Contact though. With a dialer and a call log I would definitely go with this (if I could get it to run a little smoother that would be better too). I saw that Htctoucher has a gloss dialer that goes well with the contact manager but it doesn't work in WQVGA.
Resco Contact Manager
This program runs the best of the three but I would like for it to be skinable or at least have another color option. It definitely runs the smoothest of the three, but it also is missing a dialer. I like how it has a threaded read of your text messages but I wish it had one that functioned more like PocketCM's. One that had the look with the text bubbles, and one that allowed you to type right at the bottom of the screen while still seeing the other messages. This program does run with two flaws though. The phonepad doesn't stay up when I hit the button sometimes and the taskbar displays at the top over the program.
In all I am looking for an SMS app that looks like the one in PocketCM, very professional and lets me type while seeing my old messages (I tried out SmileySMS but it's not nearly the same). If possible I would like that to be integrated into a contact manager with pictures in the contact list and a call log to show all incoming, outgoing, and missed calls. And finally a dialer that goes along with the other two. Oh and if you could get all of that to run smoothly together that would be amazing.
Thanks!
(I am know I am being picky, but I figure I would see what thoughts others had. Thanks in advance!)
