Extra Icon Squares in Programs Tab ? - An Easy Fix - Touch Pro, Fuze General

I have noticed a number of threads on this issue, which I came across on my Sprint Touch Pro a few weeks back. After posting my fix to those threads, it occurred to me that a separate thread posting the solution to this issue would be useful for searching purposes.
As annoying as it is, this is actually an easy problem to fix, and does not even require a soft reset.
TF3D can have a maximum of 18 icons (2 screens of 9 in a 3x3 matrix) in the Programs tab. Sometimes TF3D allows the creation of additional squares; however, these additional squares are essentially useless, since you cannot assign a program to them. What's worse, they cannot be deleted from the interface, leading to a Gremlins-like proliferation of empty squares on the Programs tab.
They can be removed through the registry, however, by deleting the additional entries and (most importantly) leaving the proper entries alone.
First, open your registry editor (I use PHM RegEdit, there are plenty of others). As always, BACKUP YOUR REGISTRY before making any changes!
Navigate to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Manila\ProgramLauncher\"
There are 18 proper keys, listed from 0 through 17. Any keys that do not belong will have numbers above 17. Delete all keys other than those numbered 0 through 17. Exit the registry editor. If you are on the Programs tab, navigate away from it, then back, and you will see that the rogue squares are gone.
That's it.

Small tools for WM5

Two small tools I made for WM5:
NewTray adds a menu with all "New" entries (like the New menu in PPC2000 to WM2003SE) to the system tray. The icon's a small yellow star...
(Sadly, not all entries work fine on all devices, since WM5 has no native New menu, nobody seems to check them. For example, new message doesn't work on P525...)
RemapSoftkeys allows to modify the softkey allocation on the Today screen. It only modifies registry entries, so you don't need to keep it installed after you set your new values...
Both ZIP files contain the PPC executeable, i.e. you have to copy the contained file to the PPC and execute it there. For NewTray, it'd be usefull to create a shortcut in the startup folder. To do this, run the file explorer on your PPC, tap&hold on NewTray.exe, select Copy, then go to \Windows\Startup (or localized name, e.g. \Windows\Autostart for German Windows), right softkey, Edit > Paste shortcut.
I plan to show the menu if NewTray.exe is executed again, so you could open the menu with a softkey, currently this is not possible.
Thanks for the apps.. but to burst your bubble, there are already some software that do what yours are doing.

I know that, but it's got a quite different approach. It has its own menu, while I read everything from the registry.
This means, that WM5NewMenu has some better features, like sending SMS to given users, but on the other hand requires more memory, isn't international (labels like "Appointment" are read from the registry, too), and (afaik) doesn't realize new/modified "New" entries (e.g. TextMaker or PocketInformant).
Its a matter of taste and needs what you prefer. Some people wished for s.th. like that in another board, and it was only about half an hour to write it, so here it is...

OK, didn't know of that one. I just read some queries about how to modify the softkeys in the Today screen, and most of the times the answer was either WM5NewMenu or AE buttons. Since it's not too hard to modify a couple of registry entries, I wrote this small tool...

Modify Tomtom 7 menu with tomtom.mnu

I've made this modification for version 6 of tomtom and now I'm trying to do the same with version 7. The modification works as well, but I haven't found a really full list of version 7 tasks, in particular I can't found the task for the new help button, for the map modification menu and for the popup menu.
Anyone knows these task strings?
would like to know these to, tried some combinations in the mnu file, but they didn't seem to work. seems there is no SDK anymore for v7.

Ever wanted to reorganise your Tom Tom Go's menus? Want that special option on the first screen not 3 clicks in? Well you can.
Starting with the default menu
First of all you need to create a folder called:
SDKRegistry
in the root of your TomTom system's SD card or
/TomTom/SDKRegistry
in the first level (the root) of your PDA system.
Within that folder create a file called:
TomTom.mnu
Both the folder and the file names are case sensitive. Now paste the following into the file and save 1- Main menu block
MENUBLOCK|BLOCK_MAIN|BTM_GPS_POSITION|

This will exactly replicate the existing main menu pages and structure (only GO 300), and the preferences menu pages (all GO). Pages start with the command MENUPAGE, individual menu items start with MENUITEM.
Additional Options
In addition to the basic menu items, you can also change the icon and text for each item. The following should illustrate how this is done:

As an example,

will replace the Navigate to icon and the text underneath will be Travel!

Menu Blocks
There are three types of menu block,
BLOCK_MAIN
BLOCK_PREF
BLOCK_CURSOR
The BLOCK_MAIN deals with the main menu pages, the BLOCK_PREF deals with the options that appear in the Change Preferences pages. To make changes to the BLOCK_PREF add a line to the bottom of your .mnu file. BLOCK_CURSOR describes a block of pages which may be displayed in the context of a chosen map location. At least the following tasks are applicable: TASK_PLAN_TO_MAPLOC, TASK_NEARBY_POICAT, TASK_CENTER_ON_MAP, TASK_DO_ADD_FAVOURITE, TASK_CURSOR_INTO_POI, TASK_TRAVEL_VIA.
Look at the original menu structure, in the first block menu (BLOCK_MAIN) , MENUITEM|TASK_MENU_PREFERENCES| item call MENUBLOCK|BLOCK_PREF|BTM_GPS_POSITION| (the second block menu).
MENUBLOCK|BLOCK_PREF|BTM_GPS_POSITION|
This begins the preferences block. You also need to add a MENUPAGE entry
MENUPAGE|TASK_PAGE4|Preferences 1
Note that the number in the TASK_PAGE (4) is a continuation of the previous MENUPAGE TASK_PAGE (3) entry from the BLOCK_MAIN, ie TASK_PAGE counts start at 1 and go up every time you add a page, regardless of which block it appears in.
Here's a quick example, which if appended to the menu listing Starting with the default menu will change the preferences screen to only allow the flipping of the screen orientation
MENUBLOCK|BLOCK_PREF|BTM_GPS_POSITION|
MENUPAGE|TASK_PAGE4|Preferences 1|
MENUITEM|TASK_ROTATE_DISPLAY|
Additional notes
Bear in mind, that the GO runs Linux as its operating system and that file and directory names are case sensitive.
Lines within the menu definition file must be terminated by a Linefeed character (0x0a) or a Carriage Return / Linefeed combination (0x0d,0x0a). Macintosh users must take care of that, as their editors normally don't insert a Linefeed.
These options have been tested in software versions 5.1, 5.2, and 5.440 successfully. It may work with other releases, too.

Program tab question (Fuze)

In my programs tab, Ive put 6 rows worth of programs. The 7th row shows up with the positive signs to add programs. When I attempt to add a program on the 7th row, the icon and the program aren't added. Is there a fix to this or am I stuck with the empty 7th row? I've also searched these forums and elsewhere for this same problem but no luck. Thanks in advance.
This is actually an easy one to fix, and does not even require a soft reset.

User Interface differences with 6.5

As everyone who has been trying the new ROM (or even looking at the screen captures) knows, the UI has been changed significantly. Since most of the providers don't plan on making 6.5 backwards compatible, this isn't a major problem for most users. We aren't most users: So THANK YOU to our chefs.
Anyway, there are a number of UI changes. Some I've figured out, some I have questions on. I'd love to keep a running list, if that makes sense. I'm also happy to move this post elsewhere or acknowledge someone else's work. (I did search.)
So, here is my list thus far. I'm happy to have links to additional information on any of these topics.
Touch. The touch-based actions feel much better. (I get the impression from reading XDA and other forums that AT&T limited access to some of these touch actions. With the "cooked" rom's, this goes away.) The faster I slide my finger, the faster the scrolling in long pages or lists of contacts. It's not perfect, as I sometimes find myself intending to scroll and getting a click instead. (This is not different from before.) On the browser (and other apps?), flick-scrolling gives you any angle, rather than strickly up/down or left/right. I would like a tutorial for all the touch actions, though.
Home page. This is quite variable. The default seems to be CHome, which has large text/graphic bars for each element on CHome. I like that each gives underlying status when they are the selected bar, and then you can go into them further of course: email, friends, weather, etc. Many of the CHome apps have a scrolling functionality that give you additional access without having to open the underlying application. CHome is modifiable with a special editor, called CHome Editor and located in various locations, depending on the build. This lets you set which bars show up on the list and where they are located. (It would be nice if this linked to the Today settings editor and visa versa.) As usual, there are many home page options, and one more graphical option is Manila2D / TouchFLO2D (possibly a standard option). It also takes some getting used to.
Start list. Rather than a simple list, this is now the hexagonal grid of icons. I've seen a number of people say this is a direct response to the iPhone icon / application list. While it may be easier to view, I don't like the UI and lack of flexibility here. I keep forgetting where things like the Photo Album are. My current ROM has three different places to find "settings" type of tools, and there is no way (that I can see) to move things between groupings and explicitly set what icons I want where.
Internet Explorer has a much better experience - mostly. It operates full screen, and a double-tap will zoom into a readable area. (I think it actually zooms into an underlying html section, which I find comforting.) I don't understand why IE seems to shut down when I have only OK'd out to the home screen (not closed it). Big question: on a web page with a data entry field, why won't the text entry area scroll with my typing? Other question: Should I use a different browser?
FYI: The keyboard map for function keys is different than the default for the AT&T Tilt. This can be fixed by following this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334911
Camera: The camera has never been anything to write home about, but it seems to have gotten worse. I see a thread on the main section for the Kaiser that talks about a new camera app that looks a lot like the one that comes with WM6.5 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=355587). Question: Is there any chance to improve the the options and operation of the camera?
Feedback welcomed.

Registry REG DWORD DATA Question

Hi all,
I am learning how to back up my registry settings (using SASHIMI - thanks bengalih), and I have a few quick questions that I suppose can be posted in one of many post regarding SASHIMI, but I decided to ask a question here because it is not srictly connected to SASHIMI, and more people can find this info usefull.
The background problem:
I am trying to back up my favorite Contactx Order in favpeople Manila tab. I found th place in the registy where the data is stored:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HTC\People\FavoriteOrder]
There, for one of the people the data stored is:
"0"=dword:8000003E
(in HEXadecimal , or 2147483710 in Decimal values).
I have checked if the same reg value is always added to the same person (last call person in registry - for example) , and the answer is positive.
The Questions:
- is it possible to find out what is the connection between persons and assigned numbers (other then to change the settings, and then look in the registry for assigned DATA value to specific registry key)?
- I took the favpeople as an example, but the different types of Reg Keys has for DATA values (Programs, different settings...) - What about them?
and even more important:
- will the same numbers be assigned to the same people after:
- Performing hard reset (I assume they will be)
- Changing the ROM (again - I assume they will be)
- on the other WM device (I know that there are small differences in registry settings among diff. devices, but once that person find out that different registry location - can he use the data backed up from previous device or must he start drilling trough registry settings from start)?
Thank you in advance for the answer,

p.s. - some programs use reasonable words and terms for registry DATA value, and that puts the smile on my face as everything is transparent and clear. Others, unforunately, adds this "crypted" data and I get frustrated when I want to insulate data that should be stored as the back up...
Hi,
am I asking in a wrong forum
I did a hard reset, and the favorite people I restored (by SASHIMI) are messed up. Wrong people, wrong order...
Am I missing something?
The tab order, program shortcuts and lot of other stuff came up OK, though
Is it posible that DWORD is randomly dedicated with new (hard) reset?
For example:
I make a back up of the registry with certain DWORD dedicatred to certain people (the ones I put in my fav people tab), and then if I add/ remove people from my contact list, the sequence is disorderd, and the back up performed after hard reset puts wrong people in the fav people tab?
Thanks for eventual answer,
Cheers,
p.s. - is there any link where I could get some BASIC info about mentuioned stuff (dword etc) - the search is useless, as every third post uses these key words...
