Ok, I can't find the post that asked for details about the TV Out cable, but mine arrived today, so I've attached a few pics of it in action.
When you plug the cable in, you're asked which type of output you want to use (PAL or NTSC). Once you choose, the device forces itself into landscape mode and displays the "Video Out" screen with four shortcuts (Powerpoint, Pics & Vids, Internet, YouTube).
You can choose one of the shortcuts, or just go to the Start Menu - everything is mirrored on the TV screen. I used Coreplayer to start playing an XVid of "Be Kind Rewind". There was a bit of flicker when using the "Qtv Display" option, but the "DirectDraw" option was flicker free, and worked flawlessly. No slowdown or judder at all with my 700Mb file, and the picture quality on the TV was surprisingly good.
Programs like YouTube which have to be displayed in Portrait mode, and pictures displayed in portrait mode are shown with black bars on the sides of the TV screen, while the device just rotates itself back to portrait mode.
Opera looks good on the big screen too, there's a picture of the BBC homepage, with plenty of small text, which is certainly more readable on a 32" screen than it is on a 2.8" screen...
Any questions, ask away, but I think it's pretty self explanatory...
Edit: One more thing. While I was taking these pictures, I received a call. Pressing the "Answer" button put the phone in Speakerphone mode, with the audio routed through the TV - very good quality it was too.
Cool, thanks for posting. I was hoping to hold out for a while, but I think I might have to jump on one of these whenever they are released in the US. Hopefully the CDMA version isn't too crippled compared to the GSM version. I'd switch to a GSM carrier, but I only pay $30 a month for 500 minutes, unlimited text/pic messages, unlimited data, etc. AT&T just can't beat that.
Great shots!!

Dude...I don't know if it's your TV or the camera you're using but these shots are AMAZING!
It looks like I'll be able to sell my projector and do my PPT presentations straight from the TP.
Can't wait!! Thanks for sharing!

The TV's over two years old now, but I still haven't found one that gives a better picture (annoying - because I'm trying find a 42" upgrade).
Camera was just a Nokia N95 that I have to hand, and the pics were shrunk to get them below the forum posting limit.
When you plug it can you touch the TV instead of the phone screen?
JK of course!
Very good quality, even web browsing looks very decent! Where did you buy the cable, and how much did you pay?
The dreaded Expansys, I'm afraid:
£16.99 for the cable
£8.49 for a 3.5mm headphone adapter
£4.06 for delivery
£10 off with a voucher
£19.54 total
I think they make up the delivery prices as they go along?!
Was really worried what the performance would be like when playing videos as I read alot it's mainly for presentations.
Now, I feel ok with the upcoming purchase
Thx man
This is the first device in ages where using DirectDraw in CorePlayer doesn't mean stuttering and page tearing to at least some extent.
And there's no need to worry, performance doesn't alter at all when the TV cable is plugged in.
It can only be a good thing that you can plug the charger into the TV cable though, because the screen stays lit on the device while you're watching through the TV. For a two hour movie, I'm pretty sure the battery would take a big hit...
That is so amazing! Do you think you can post of shot of you going through a PowerPoint presentation?
WOW! that's really awesome. I can make use of that.
The Raphael, Is A Must Got To Have Mobile Device
This is the reason that I have to have this mobile device, the Raphael a superior highly enhanced mobile device, revealing yet to be now technology, TV out, nice photos guys, yeah..........!
Can you try to do remote desktop on your touch pro?
What is the tv-out resolution? is it 1024 x 768?
Does it has vga-out?
thanks.

I'll give remote desktop a go on Monday when I'm back at home.
No idea what the output resolution is, but I'd be surprised if it was anything other than 640 x 480, the image on a widescreen TV appears to be stretched slightly to fit the width.
It's just composite, not VGA. I guess you could try using a VGA cable from an HTC Advantage, but I have no idea if that'd work...

Said three days when I ordered too, but it turned up the next day. Postman was knocking on the door about 30 minutes after I got the e-mail to say it had been despatched...
Does anyone make a mini usb to 15 pin cable? I know you can buy mini usb to RCA cable and then a RCA to 15 pin cable.
I'm wondering because then you could connect Raphael directly to a projector for Power Point presentations for business.

HTC make one for the Advantage. As I said a couple of posts ago though, no idea if it'll work on the Raphael...
Video
Is there any chance we can get a video shot of the performance on the video out? I'd love to see if it would actually be worth it to use as a video player on the road?
Thanks good job!
Finally a reason why I would put a full lenght movie on my phone. Watching movie on a 2.8 inch screen is dumb. It's only for show. Now, With the tv output, I can put 4 movies and watch in anywhere there's a tv. Even on my Mini van's 12 inch lcd.Whooohooo!!

I'm sure it's gonna perform OK. The phone's resolution is 640x480. A dvd quality is 720x480 so It will look fine fasho.

Hi All,
Before the site went down someone had asked if it had an external mic.. which is does not. The only thing i can think of if somebody would be kind enough to help me out so everytime i plug the Diamond into the car kit i run a program which changes the registry to allow mic to be enabled while in cradle. As i do not have those skills was wondering if somebody could help me out. Willing to donate to anyone that help me.
Regards
Ray
So that thingy you got there acts like a headset?
I guess it's possible to find the registrykey for enabling phone mic while headset is active...
yes that is right...... all it does is just transfer the sound via FM transmitter to radio in car. all i need help with registry keys. a program like diamond tweak would be cool where you could just enable and disable.
i am also interested about this product. Could you please tell me if the car charger charges the phone's battery or the transmitter's (if it has one)? And a second one:can i use the transmitter without the charger connected?
Can you link to the seller you bought this from? I'm looking for the exact same thing. Also interested in getting the phone mic working while in headset mode.

The charger that comes with it doesn't look like it'll work with the Diamond, based off of these pictures (non-usb). And does any1 know of an American/English site I could buy it from?
I've just ordered one. I expect it doesn't just power the FM transmitter but also the Diamond. I am hoping to get around the microphone issue by using bluepower to enable my bluetooth connection when it is charging and then using a bluetooth headset. I don't really want to use this FM transmitter/charger as a hands free device, but just keep using my bluetooth headset instead.
I will report back it this all works when I get it!
Ok, the thing finally arrived.... After 20 minutes of playing around with it, it is already broken.... Here's the story:
It arrived with no instructions (not that any are needed) and appeared to be of poor quality manufacture. Not like the Brodit one which I intended to replace with it.
My Diamond didn't slide in very well at all. It took a lot of fiddling to get the male charger into the female diamond mini USB. They weren't lined up very well. I expect that as the Diamond is far superior in quality, it is not the Diamond that is at fault but the charger/transmitter.
Once connected, the music quality was very good at times. I compared this to my ipod (which is connected directly to the car arial) by playing the same song on both. The music quality from the Diamond was actually better, so the FM transmitter was working well indeed.
However, there are intermittent "noises". I don't really know how to describe these as it was not typical interference, but kind of basey crackling. This was very intermittent though and this could be caused by being tested in London where there are hardly any frequencies free. I contined my test on various frequencies even when not moving the car and this noise was there on all of them....
I think this would have been enough to make this device annoying enough to be binned in itself.
A third attempt at inserting my Diamond in the cradle was much easier. Well, that's what I thought.... The male USB in the FM transmitter had actually broken now. It had slid back into it's casing. The only way to retrieve it would be to break the damn thing open. Enough was enough. I had finished my experimenting with this thing.
To make matters worse, the thick film on the home/back/talk/end part of my Diamond is now peeling off. I assume my struggling to get it in this FM transmitter cradle had snagged it. That's a real bugger because I guess that as it has now started to peel off, it will continue to snag on everything and eventually tear off completely. I'm not sure how this will affect it's functionality, but it certainly won't help. I expect the capacitive sensor in sensor scroll will no longer work once it has peeled off fully..... Probably time for a Diamond 2!!!
To conclude, my advice is not to buy this product as it (1) may harm your Diamond; (2) waste £20odd; and (3) cause frustration with the "noise".
The good points with this though, if you do decide to go ahead, are that you can use a bluetooth headset (with Bluepower). So if a phone call should come in whilst you are listening to music, you can simply take the call through the bluetooth headset and the music is automatically turned off. The microphone on the headset is used....

Good Looking man, preciate that review. I think i'm just gonna stick with a simple cassette adaptor to play music through the car. That way you don't have to worry about the static noise.
That's unfortuante that it's not the best build quality. How snug is the fit? I have a Sprint Touch Diamond so I might have to get the Touch Pro version to ensure it fits, but it might not be snug enough. More importantly, I'd rather get the phone's mic working with it and just activate the mic when in handsfree mode.
I live in Australia and on the first moderately hot day the whole thing pretty much fell apart, turns out they have used cheap hot glue to join every piece.
First the pole going into the suction cap fell out while i was driving, so i repaired it with decent glue. Then, later the mirco USB plug sticking out of the base disappeared inside, and after i pulled the holder apart i found it was also held there with the same crappy glue.
Anyway i would not recommend buying this car kit but if anyone could work out how to enable the microphone it would be much appreciated
I have combed through forums, read article after article, but I cannot find an answer to this question.
But first, I should introduce myself. I'm a long time lurker but first time poster! Thanks to you guys, I ordered my G tablet a few days ago and it should be coming in today!
Secondly, I wanted to thank all the developers and members on this forum. You guys (and gals?) have been an invaluable source of information! (And a seriously effective form of marketing! Viewsonic should be paying you guys!!)
Ok, now onto the question. I've been reading that the microphone on the tablet is... sub-par. And I've also read that there is no way to have an external line-in. My question is, is the microphone replaceable to add more sensitivity? Or is it possible to wire up the microphone so that instead of a microphone we install a 3.5 mm jack in its place? As a songwriter, getting song ideas down into a program like "songmemo" or "4-tracks" is going to be pretty important.
Once I receive my tablet (after I study for finals ), I'm going to take it apart and see what is possible. (also, thanks to "t3h_g3n3r4l" for the hardware breakdown thread, now I know what I'm getting myself into!)
+1 An alternate microphone would be great, or even better the ability to use any external mic. I also use both those programs listed, but the built-in mic is a little issue. I would assume a small preamp circuit could be made to fit and attached to a 3.5mm jack and soldered on in replacement of the current mic, but I have not opened mine to check, otherwise it would be nice to add software that could handle a usb microphone.
My tablet still hasn't arrived yet! I have a pile of accessories that have already been delivered and no tablet! This is killing me. I really should be studying for finals but this waiting is making it hard to concentrate.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. The only reason an external usb mic or even a bluetooth headset wouldn't work would be because the software. Unfortunately I'm horrible at coding so I don't even know what it would take for a fix like that and I'm not going to post some egregious request.
As soon as my tablet comes in, I'll pop it open and see what I find. If the microphone is wired in, then I think soldering in a 3.5 mm jack should be easy. And if the signal is low, you could always use an external pre once the jack is in.
The only issue I can see is if the G tab uses one of those cell phone "button" type microphones. I'm not familiar with how those work. Though I'm sure there's a solution even for that.
What I am trying to figure out is if you can use a headset mic because if you can I can solder up a 3.5mm jack with a preamp, and also the software is already built in android to handle a headset mic.
*Edit* Headset mic is a no go I guess on to another idea...
Alright, so was delivered.
Once I finish writing this essay, I'll take this baby apart and see what our options are.
Hopefully this help. Its the chip that handles the audio made by realtek.

Thankyou that will help greatly! It appears that the chip has multiple stereo mic/line-in inputs including one that has a built in preamp, so now the question is will android allow us to utilize those inputs if we hook them up allowing us to use not only the internal mic but an external plugged into a 3.5mm jack? I think some testing is in order ....
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
*Edit* I opened my G-Tab and it is quite possible to replace the stock mic with a 3.5mm jack, but you will need some serious soldering skills (very small solder points) unless you just cut the wires to the existing mic and reuse them (leave them soldered to the board) which I am not to keen on. As far as soldering another input right to the chip, this is also possible (again you would have to have some real skill with the iron as they are also very very small soldering points. It might be easier to write a usb driver and software to use my m-audio box lol (and I am excellent with a soldering iron). On a side note I saw they got ubuntu 11.04 working on the gtab so once they get the sound going in it, my usb m-box should work great (I may wait for this option. Ardour would be nice)
Beeeeaauuutifull!!
Though, I'm a bit wary to try anything on my brand new G tab. Heh.
Oh but it looks so promising!
Edit: Ok, now I can't see the pinout you posted..

I have to agree, as the app is quite expensive and not quite stable yet, at least it needs some hand-holding to get everything working.
Hello Folks!
Maybe thats a dumb question, but why not?
So this is the situation...I have an really old and big TV at home, which only has RCA Inputs. As I watch a lot videos on youtube/other websites, I was wondering how to get these videos on the TV for maximum comfort
So this day I found an old TRRS->RCA Cable back from my Nokia N95, which seemed to work (checked it with a measuring instrument; it's the OMTP Standard). Looks like this.
I was enthusiastic and plugged it in, turned the TV on - the sound was running nicely, but there was no video. Ok; I thought 'maybe it's only a software issue and I have to share the Nexus' screen anywhere'...but I could not find it.
So I was browsing the whole afternoon to find a solution and I found this on reddit. I know, that this was possible with an old Galaxy S and some HTC Devices.
Is it true, that the TRRS Jack in our Nexus 5 can only be used for Microphones?
Is there no way to say the device via software to use that ring on the TRRS as video output?
Does anyone know if the board is configured or is it hard-wired only to work like this?
I'm running newest OmniRom 4.4.4 Nightly.
Please don't say "buy a new TV ans use HDMI, buy these, buy that"...as I'm a poor student I don't want to spend a lot money
(been thinking about buying the new RasPi which has exactly this feature, but I don't know how good video streaming is working with this one...)
