I replaced my Sable with an iPhone this summer, but I've still been using the Sable as a turn by turn GPS solution with TomTom Navigator 6.
Since I wasn't using it as a phone, I had the phone (as well as wifi and bluetooth) turned off, and it was working fine.
However, I just installed TomTom Navigator 7, and if the phone is off, TomTom says it's in "Flight Mode" and won't get a lock.
If I enable the phone, TomTom works fine. The SIM card in the phone is deactivated and will not successfully connect to the network. TomTom behaves this way whether I have:
1) an active SIM card
2) a deactivated SIM card
3) no SIM card
Does anyone know of any way to get TomTom to work while the phone radio is disabled? I really don't want the extra power drain.
Thanks

No. It works fine with no SIM card, the WIFI radio disabled, and the Bluetooth radio disabled. But the cellular radio has to be enabled.
I want it to work with the radios all disabled, as it did with TomTom Navigator 6.

hrmm, all i can think of is maybe a cooked rom that functions as a pda instead of a phone, tomtom 6 wouldn't work on my orbit if i turned the phone function off.
i'm not sure but maybe theres a registry key stating its in flightmode, as i've noticed when u turn all the radio's off flightmode is on, and programs read it as flightmode, maybe theres a 1 to change to a 0 someware..worth a look if you have the time

I found some interesting values in HKLM\System\State\Phone. They change when I enable/disable the phone, so I'll try them out.
Do you know of a way to save a copy of the registry, and then compare two copies to see what's different?
Thanks
Nevermind. I got a program that could export and compare two states of the registry, so I saved one copy with the phone radio off, and one with it on, and compared.
There were a few differences. I turned the radio off, and set all the registry values to what it would normally have in the "on" state.
TomTom still said it was in flight mode.
My home screen basically said that the phone was on, but no SIM was inserted. However, normally if the phone is on, and you tap the phone, it turns off. When I did it, the status flickered, but it went back to on, and then TomTom worked.
There's more to TomTom's detection than just looking at the registry.
Any other ideas? :S
does the ttnavigator.bif file get created on startup everytime? as in there under features it says 'PhoneFeatures', i highly doubt it would work but may be worth removing it...
if you disable the radio after launching tomtom does it switch to flightmode? (just tried it switches to flightmode )
i'm interested in this as my sister wants my old orbit as a satnav, and won't be using the phone functions
found this link, i'm not sure if this turns off the phone or not, but its worth a shot

I had to make the file read only for it to not get overwritten, but it still didn't work.

You can't set a SIM pin if there's no SIM card.
And I'm not sure about that having any effect at all. Regardless of whether you have the correct pin entered, you can still make emergency calls, which means it's still talking to the cell towers, which means it's still using battery.

i like some of the today screen programs with shortcut icons that you can use to access your most used programs, i tried trials of both phoneAlarm & Spb Pocket Plus. i have a sx66 through cingular, and my question is, through either of these 2 programs or any other programs is there a quick way to turn off the phone? thanks...
Try this file.
Worked for me quite well on my magician.
I have it combined with tdlaunch to launch application out of the today screen.....
it only disables my radio, never turns it back on. is this suppose to do both?
Yes it should. For me on my magician it´s working.
First run -> turning it off
Second run -> turning it on

Here's a link to another program that does the same. There's a similiar program for turning on/off bluetooth.

I have an HTC Touch Cruise and have installed TomTom 6 that came with the device. When I start it up, however, I get the message "No GPS Device!" in the lower left corner. Any ideas about how to get the handheld to see my internal GPS? I really thought this should work as the TomTom software provided on the CD appears to be modified for the Polaris.

1 Run QuickGPS
2 Ensure that in Tomtom GPS is configured as other NMEA, comm 4, and 4800.
I have the same problem. Did you wait long enough? It takes about 10s or more to initialize TomTom itself and then he starts looking for a GPS device. And indeed I ran QuickGPS too, good practice

If you read the HTC documentation, you'll see that you've to first (before installing the TomTom software) run the QuickGPS fix application. After that, install your TomTom SW, your card. Normally you won't have to change anything to the GPS configuration. The TomTom SW come configured with "Internal GPS Antenna" and should work like this.
Of course you have to be outside when you run the GPS
Be patient the first time. My Polaris take about 2 to 5 minutes before initializing the GPS. After that, 10 to 20 secs is generally needed to initialize the GPS (cold start).

I didn't run quickgps before installing tomtom and it works perfectly.
I reinstall TomTom and choose other NMEA, com 4, 2400.
I will also try with 4800.
In my case, the gps is incredible. It fix gps in 10 to 20 seconds.

Hi,
Mine works just fine. However, when I start TomTom I also get the message "No GPS Device!" bottom left. After a while it changes to "Waiting for a valid GPS signal..." This is typical if you are not receieving any GPS info because the device can't 'see' the satellites. On the bottom right of the screen you will see 5 'strength' indicators. Tap on this to bring up the next screen. At the top right there will be a battery strength indicator. Under this there is again a signal strenth indicator (with text 0 satelites). Tap on this and you should get the GPS Status screen. Tapping the 'configure button' should show the 'built-in GPS receiver' - tap Select to return. Once you move your device to a position where it can 'see' some satelites this will be shown on the GPS status screen.
In summary, the message really means 'no GPS signal' rather than no GPS device present.
Cheers
Michael
GPS not working, please help!
Hi my friends!
I can't get GPS to work on my TC!!
I know I have to run quickgps first, but ONCE I did, and since that I always get the message that it couldn't connect, try later. I know that there is a file here that I can install on the device, and I did it successfully, but nothing changed.
I have installed the program on the device, it prompted me that it will replace the existing one, and I ran it after a soft reset. Still can't connect.
What is strange for me, is that I have downloaded a program called sirftech, that can tell on which port my built-in device is listening on, but it couldn't find my gps device. It founds somethings on com7 and com9 but to no avail.
on com4 at 4800 nothing happens.
I also install iGO 2006 which is quite familiar here in Europe, but it also cant nor detect neither use any gps. I have been waiting for 20 minutes with this program to get the satellite data, but nothing.
I am lost here!
Anybody having the same problem?
Or my device may be faulty???

My GPS run well on my TC. First of all, I think it is normal that the program "SirfTech" don't find your GPS because the GPS Chipset into the Touch Cruise isn't a Sirf but it is integrated into the Qualcomm 7200 (processor).
Now to come back to your problem I suggest you to redo the TomTom installation. But before, insure to uninstall the previous version (not apply as an update).
Uninstall TomTom
Restart your device
Run QuickGPS
Reinstall TomTom (from the HTC CD). Install it into the main memory of your device, not on the storage card !
Restart your device
Launch TomTom / configure it
Check the configuration of your GPS (into "Change preferences" => "Show GPS Status" => "Configure" (Select your GPS receiver)
Built-in GPS received should be selected by default. If it is not the case, choose this option
Go outside and wait 1 to 5 minutes (should be less). Normally TomTom will work.
Hope it help.
I had the same problem yesterday. The GPS had functionned well but suddenly it would not start anymore. Once I switched the unit off (press the on/off button for about 5 secs) and on again it worked without problems. Probably you can just do a soft reset by pushing the resetbutton.
Thank you for you answer!!!
I have never installed tom tom, because I already have another navigation software, igo. the problem is that i cannot run quickgps, it is saying "Connection failed. Please try again later."
I already downloaded and installed the quickgps found on this forum, but it is the same.
so does it make any sense installing any program until I can't run quickgps?
or should the gps work also without quickgps just slower at startup?
(offtopic: and why my device sometimes does start charging if I connect to usb cable, and sometimes it does not??)

Which ROM are you using ?
Thank you for your post, but I have already tried both the restart and the reset button, but nor helped.
I am getting nervous.
But I have found a solution to my off-topic question: There was a check marked saying "Do not charge the device when turned on and connected to PC" In settings > Power. After I unchecked, it charges from usb even turned on.
I hope that my gps problem is so easy as well, but I just simply can't get it to work...

SOLVED!!!
Dear friends!
Thank you all for your kind help!
I have solved the GPS problem.
I am so stupid that I couldn't find this solution earlier...
So, Under Settings there is an option called External GPS.
It was not set up correctly. Now the GPS program port is set to COM1, the hardware port is (none), baud rate is 4800, and checkbox is checked, this is important. And igo is set manually to use com1.
Now iGO is able to seen 6 satellites from my desk near to the closed window!!
It is not yet found the position but it is working on it (i am patient as quickgps is still not working)
Thank you all and I hope I will help someone else later.
Moire
What device are you using? I have an HTC p3300 and have had this problem foreverr.
NO GPS Device!!! Please help
I bought my HTC TC yesterday. I previously used the Kaiser.
I've flashed to Bepe rom and then installed Tomtom from the CD.
I have not not been able to get any GPS signal yet.
I have read this thread but it still does not work. The yellow and blue icon on the GPS status screen doesnt move either. I have updated the quickGPS software but it didnt help.
I hve off course chosen internal GPS antenna in the configuration part.
Should I configurate the external GPS application or is it irrelevant anyway since I am not using it? and if yes how? What should be the settings (if this is relevant)?
Should I maybe change my Radio version? Can it help?
Please help
Thanks
Edit: After 2 days of trying it, no it works, I was ready to hard reset and installed sprite back-up. I have no idea why it did not work and why it is working now...
Anyway
my first polaris had the problem to get the position after 10-20 min outside a building , and then the sat-Bars on tomtom sat-konfig jumps around with every satellit forever. sometimes my car goes 347km/h ))). so when i press with my fingers hard on the back near the camera, it fixes the Position on gps. This seems to be a contactproblem between the gps-Antenna and the Receiver. I send it back, got a new one, now it runs like it shut.
it shut also run without quickgps, it only starts slower. Quickgps is just downloading a little database with the sattellites what are now in sight.
otherwise the gps-rec has to wait, to get all sats what are now on the horizon .
i think you have a connectionproblem to the internetserver from witch qgps get the data, if you can surf the internet with the polari, qgps shut download.
hope it helps

does anyone know how to permanently disable wifi on a at&t tilt 8925, or know where I can find out from. by permanently I mean remove or disable the wifi antena, or some kind of program to edit the connection manager and remove the wifi on off switch.
try to delete this registry with registry editor: (it will ruin your registry setting about wifi, so wifi is permanently disabled, as your request)
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\comm\TNETW1251]
and
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\comm\TNETW12511]
and
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\CommManager\WLAN]
and for the comm manager: make sure you dont have any text written "WLAN" in here:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\CommManager\5]
@="DataDisconnection"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\CommManager\4]
@="3G"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\CommManager\3]
@="WLAN" -> remove this, change to something else (ActiveSync, etc)
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\CommManager\2]
@="Bluetooth"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\CommManager\1]
@="Phone"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\CommManager\0]
@="FlightMode"
there, you wont have any wifi in comm manager and available wifi,.
which editor should I use, and do u also know how I could delete bubble breaker and solatire
This worked somewhat for my somewhat bricked 8525 with WM6.1 (couldn't get radio working). There wasn't a "TNETW1251" but something similar "TNET..." Only problem was I set it up while WiFi was enabled so now it searches for WiFi and there seems to be no way to disable it.
I will eventually put those Registry items back so I can see what the deal is. Does this work similarly on an HTC Fuze? Whether I can disable WiFi will be a determining factor in whether I will buy the Fuze.

I don' mean to pry and if it is none of my business just say so, but why go to those extremes when you can just " shut it off" in your comm manager.
Two login names Joe? or two separate people coincidently named Joe.
I am a man with little self control, who is relying on the strength of God and His guidance for wiser choices. I love my 8525, but I "done it in," so I'm thinking of upgrading to something newer that has the same features. None of the other phones had the QWERTY board like I wanted. I use a program called Pocket eSword and have a ton of notes and highlighting in it. I may just continue using my 8525 as a PDA and get something simpler, but I also like the idea of an all-in-one. I also like using Word and Excel. Any insight would be appreciated.
Has anybody tested this?

TURBO GPS fix on Touch Pro
(contrary to many of the GPS fixes offered on the net)
I read a lot of fixes on how to make the Touch Pro lock on to GPS faster. Being an ex-owner of toshiba G810, which is the fastest GPS PPC i tried ever before, and noting that it uses the same GPS chip as in the Touch Pro. I tried to emulate the settings in the registry, and i got an excellent result, so would like to share that with you.
1) Many of the fixes on the net talk about turning off the A-GPS , i think this is "wrong" thing, cos when A-GPS is turned off, it would not be able to use the valuable satellite data downloaded from QuickGPS. Therefore, i use Advanced Configuration Tool to turn it back on (ENABLED).
2) I changed the HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver\Drivers\GpsOneDevice\PollInterval -> 500 (default is 1000),
which is the same figure as in my Toshiba G810 before.
3) keep the log files untouched, i.e., DO NOT delete:
\windows\GPSLogFile.txt and \windows\GPSLogFileBack.txt
(if you have deleted those 2 files before, just create 2 blank .txt files with those filenames and put them back in \windows. When new GPS data comes in, it will append to the blank files, older data get deleted once reached the 32K limit set below.)
4) keep maximum size of logfile to the default which is 32K
Voila, now my Touch Pro always get 4 to 5 BLUE bars on my mapking (which mean dead lock on!!!) And it it wont fluctutate lock on and off intermittently.
Really urge you to try it, and let me know if you get the same results~~
Cheers everyone!

Please write back to see if it works welll for you. And make sure you use QuickGPS once afterwards to get the satellite data before you start GPS.
I don't have any kind of data connection with my network so AGPS is useless for me, however I did try changing the polling from 1000 to 500 and I managed to get a lock with GPS test within a few minutes inside my own house! Can't remember getting the same results before.
I can only agree that
1 - touching log files is BAD.
2 - reducing poll interval will improve the GPS lag slightly
3 - keeping A-GPS up - in my country there is no A-GPS data available since thats the data provided by the provider over the local network cells. I dont think it has anything to do with the data from Quick GPS. But i might be wrong. Anyway, Quick GPS is your friend.
4 - if you have fix problems its usually either not having Quick gps data or trying to get a fix in a bad area or under a shielded windscreen.
overtweaked?
I changed the pollig interval to 100... is it milliseconds?
I haven't tried it yet but would it be a battery drainer like this (100)?
Actually I was hoping to reduce the delay of map in garmin or oziexplorer (which are my favourites) in higher driving speeds. I tried garmin while driving over 200 km/h and there was a damn nasty delay on the map. Of course it was a stupid risk to watch the screen during these speeds
I tried 1000 (default), 250, 125, and 64 Pollinginterval and none of them were as fast as 500.
well it would be slower because you are polling to often then. best thing to do for your gps speed is update your radio to 1.12.25.19. it doesnt take long to do. then make sure agps is enabled and update your quickgps data. increasing polling from 1000 to 500 might help but i havent tried yet.
ok i changed the polling and with my radio and quickgps i got a lock in under 2 seconds. i havent seen any gps device that could do that.

Thanks for your testing.
It seems that Toshiba G810 polling setting (i.e. 500) really works for a lot of us.
I was originally so amazed at how G810 could do it, and was so sad to see how bad my Touch Pro (which costs twice compared to the G810) is performing.
I'm glad at least now i can make my Touch Pro just as fast.

I have not had issues with mine with warm or hot starts (most was 30 seconds). What I need to know is from a cold start, how long it takes to perform a fix (you can verify using the HTC GPS tool).
To do a cold start, reset the unit with the button near the USB connector or if you have StartXP, use that.
I think wildboy did do a soft reset, it's kind of standard on XDA.

agps needs to be enabled for quickgps. agps hindered gps on older radios. the newest radio works really well with agps and quickgps.

Just install AdvancedConfig, this will allow you to edit the buffer size of the log files and verify their are log files in that ROM. Then you just need a Registry Editor to adjust the polling time.
Pretty strange but I haven't modified mine at all and it locks on in about 10-15 seconds which I think is pretty good, or isn't it?

Sorry, slight miscommunication..
I'm using EnergyROM 2, and i'm familiar with Adv. Config & Registry editing..
Default setting was no logging, and I can't point adv. config to the log file that doesn't exist.
If i just make ablank log/text file, and point it, will that work? Or do the log files need to have certain information in them in order to not screw up?
This took me a while, but I finally figured it out through trial and error. I know there are a few options out there for tethering, but this has always been the preferred way to tether when I was using the Diamond. It's wireless, you can initiate the connection from the PC, and it gives you better battery life than WMWiFiRouter or HTC Wifi Sharing. Best of all, you DO NOT need to initiate a DATA connection on the phone before connecting to your PC! Just fire up the BT DUN connection on your PC, click Dial, then browse the web!
Here's how we do this:
Install DotFred's TaskManager
Click select Menu, Tab Options, Select Tab, Services. Find "CM Guardian", click and hold until menu pop up and select "Set Manual".
Make the following changes on your TP2 with a Registry editor:
1. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing]
Extension="" Delete the "isext.dll"
2. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing\settings]
ForceCellConnection="Sprint"
3. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\OEM\Wmodem]
Check Profile=0

That's it! Re-pair your TP2 to your PC and BT DUN should be available as one of the services. Create a new DUN profile on your PC, leave username and password blank, and set dial number as #777. Click dial and you should be able to connect... just like old times.
Thank you so much for posting this. I have been ripping my hair out over this. However, I am on Verizon and thus my HTC Touch Pro2 has somewhat different entries in the registry than Sprint does. Does anyone know how to get DUN working with the HTC Touch Pro2 on Verizon? I bought a laptop specifically with Bluetooth just to use my phone as the modem but cannot get it working for my life.
After I did all the registry edits I could that you mentioned (even though all of them were not available since I'm on a different provider) I noticed when I try to dial out for a SPLIT second I will see "Dial Up Networking" listed under Bluetooth services. Windows promptly gives me a dialing error and that service on my phone disappears.
Anyone can give any pointers?
I don't have a Service called "CM Guardian". I have a custom ROM, would that make a difference?

Yes, some Rom chefs may have eliminated this service. I know MightyMike left it in his Rom, but I have not tested others on the TP2.

Would this service be in WM6.5? If I download MightyMike's ROM would it be in there or is it only in WM6.1?
Thanks for this.

MightyMike's Rom does indeed have CMGaurdian. I cannot speak for other TP2 Roms, but his does.

Can anyone give any pointers on getting this to work on the Verizon version of the phone? Been searching high and low!
There is no "CMGaurdian" on my phone. I did a full search for it and it's nowhere to be found. I have the stock Windows Mobile 6.5 rom. But it looks like without being able to set that as manual, I have to change the registry everytime I end up having to restart my phone. But even when I do that, it still goes back to phone as modem after a few minutes instead of staying on Sprint.
Awesome!
Thanks for the info. The connection sharing wasn't working for me anyway.
Just an FYI, you can optionally edit the registery to set the CMGuardian to Manual.
Open a reg editor and navigate to [HKLM\Services\CMGuardian]
Locate the Index key and change the value from 2 (default) to 1.
So anyone on Sprint TP2 with 6.5 stock rom actually got Wmodem to work? I've spent about 24 hr trying just about everything with no luck so far.
I made all the above reg changes, have WModem v02 installed on my TP2. Activate the wmodem prog, connect to computer with usb cable. When i try to connect on my computer, it stucked on verifying user name and pass. There is some sort of data connection going on on the phone itself, but the computer connected to the phone couldn't seem to go pass that "verifying user name and pass"
Much appreciated any help or comment. Thanks
Just wanted to add that I found this thread useful, got the registry entries and made a cab for it. This is for Sprint only! Download, install, and go, no need for registry editing!
Problem tethering via Bluetooth DUN to pspgo
Ok, I am pulling MY hair out on my ATT tilt 2. I am trying to use my fone as a bluetooth modem for my pspgo.
It seems that my Tilt 2 receives the data from the pspgo, but its not sending any data to the pspgo, when I test the connection the tilt2 receives about 9-16 bytes, but it says sent: 0 bytes.
I have energyROM july 16 2010 WWE winmo 6.5
Manilla 2.5.20161332.0
Build: 23563.5.5.0
I have seen vids of people doing this on the Raphael (FUZE) and other phones
I keep getting this connection error on my psp: (8030000B) I have tried so many dial #'s, changing settings, PDAnet,
I think the problem has something to do with:
it being WinMo 6.5 or
The custom ROM has disabled something in the Bluetooth or
Since the ROM is custom, the psp wont recognize this for some reason because just like the WIFI router; the carrier doesn't know I'm tethering. or
I have the wrong Dial-up # or
Authentication settings or Initialization command is wrong or
I need to use a Proxy network
Some other reason ( The ROMS BT stack) whatever that is lol
Does anyone have this or similar problem? Or know whats happening here?
Any help would be awesome!
Thank you
Worked Perfectly
After making the changes you suggested, this worked perfectly on my TP2. It's so funny, after I initially got my TP2 and tried it, I instantly gave up. Now that I'm a month away from going to a new carrier, and most likely a Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, I got really interested in getting this working. It was a breeze using the Resco Explorer Demo with included Registry Editor.
TP2 Stock WM6.5
Doesnt work for me. I dont have CMGuardian.
I went ahead and edited the registry anyway and still didnt work even after rebooting.
I'm hoping someone can help figure this out... Trying to tether with my new Xoom!
Thanks a lot defcon6, I was looking for this some time ago, but no look, but know, looking for some other thing i found it, thanks again
Same here, stock 6.5 rom and no CMGuardian. Did you ever figure this out?
Never mind, I did run the cab from pengc99 and it worked fine. After soft reset of the phone, it never got out of the "modem negotiating" state but running the cab again fixed it. Now if I just could find the equivalent to CMGuradian I would be all set but this is at least working.
Bluetooth setting to ALWAYS ON?
Thanks to this thread and the pengc99 file, I successfully (quite some time ago) paired my TP2 via the bluetooth to a Nexus 7 tablet as well as an android phone, but each time I turn on the phone, I have to go through the following steps:
1. Select Communication Manager
2. Turn ON the Data Connection
2. Click on Bluetooth
3. Select one of my paired devices, such as the Nexus 7 by clicking the large "+" icon
4. Select Bluetooth Networking
5. Select the "Share Internet Connection" option
6. Click Continue on the bottom
I tried various registry edit searches here and on google, but cant' find any way to lessen these steps or preferably have the Bluetooth sharing set to ON at all times. If anyone knows how to simplify this process, please post the stops or file that will help us all.
Thanks in advance
