HTC S710 ROM update

Hi, I'm new to updating ROM's....
I want to update my S710 from its original ROM version 1.15.405.2 to the one i found on the site: RUU_Vox_HTC_WWE_1.34.405.1_4.1.13.54_03.10.90_Ship.
My radio version is 4.1.13.37_02.83.90. Can I use this update on my phone or not? Does the radio version's need to match?

You should have no problem using this ROM to update your S710 as I used that ROM for a short while when it first came out, I then moved oveer to Dr. Gonzo's New Guava ROM, and I am now using his WM6.1 ROM, been using it since his first test ROM came out and I am now using his latest WM6.1 v1.0a ROM.

Roland, simple question. What is the advantage of upgrading ROM's? Newer features? Faster software? Just curious I guess. I just got my 710 and wondering whats the buzz with all this rom and 6.1 stuff. Thanks!

To have the latest on your Vox offcourse.
Just like Rolandh I have updated my Vox with the WM6.1 rom from Doc. Gonzo.
And the new features and the increased stability are great.
Futher more I noticed the response of the software in some areas is better.
So all pro's and little con's.

The official HTC WM6 Update added a Network Setup Wizard and Office 6.1 to the ROM. Dr. Gonzo's WM6.1 adds Threaded SMS, New Internet Explorer Mobile with the ability to set your own Homepage, a better Home/Today Screen and some extra apps that Dr. G has added and is more responsive and a little bit more stable than WM6, and as Chongie says to have the lates version of WM on you Vox aswell.

Having only added Gregory's HTC plugin to this phone, if I wanted to add Dr. G's WM6.1, what is the proper way to do so? Is there some precautions I need to take first?

Hi,
There is not much precautions to take, apart from taking backup of your contacts, that is and making sure that there is battery backup to your PC, so that the update process is not interrupted. Because once you update the ROM, all your data will be erased. Its like formatting your hard disk drive. If your vox is network locked (mine was not) then you need to unlock the phone first. If you download Dr G's latest ROM, then you will find out how to do it (there is a step by step guide that comes with it).
Honestly, if you followed the guide, there is hardly any chance of screwing up. And once you start using the 6.1 ROM, you will surely wonder how the hell could you ever have used the original ROM that came with HTC Vox

Wow, appreciate the awesome explanation! Thanks! As far as locked or unlocked, I'm assuming its unlocked. Bought it off Ebay, stuck my sim card from t-mobile in it, turned it on and worked like a charm! Have heard the term "bricking" phone, which i'm assuming means locking it up, correct? Since I wasnt the original owner, are there certain "codes" or info off the phone i need to get first? You know, like some software info or phone specific info?

Hi all, has anyone got or know where I can get an original HTC ROM 1.28.405.3 WWE for my new Touch Cruise?.

Many thanks omaga, already looked and the closest was Official test 1.28.405.1 HTC ROM from xda-ftp. Not sure about using a test ROM.
My version 1.28.405.3 WWE.
There was a program i came across for the artemis to dump a ROM from it straight to the memory card, but can't remember where I saw it.

I also need the original 1.28.405.3 WWE ROM for my Touch Cruise. Has anyone got it?
I "upgraded" the radio to a newer verson (old was 1.58, new was 1.64) and ever since then, my GSM reception has gone bad. Calls drop out, and I get maximum 2 bars reception. When wifi is on, it kills the GSM reception.
I downgraded the radio back to the original (1.58.21.23) but the problem persists. I even put the original SPL on there (so no more HardSPL) but still no luck. Even a hard reset didn't fix it.
Any suggestions?
I downloaded the WM6 rom from the HTC site, but that's an older version (1.25.405.1).

1.28.457.2 WM6 rom
I use this. This according to me newer and better. This is a fast and stable version.
Why is this not rather good for you?

and i've seen my friends new HTC touch cruise working with wm6.1
i wanted to know if i can upgrade my mda to a rom that looks exactly and does the same function as the touch cruise with all the cube and touch flo thing?
and if yes can u plz tell me where to get it from ?
and is flashing my device a safe process ?

he sends you to the Guide for newbbes to unlock and get winmobile 6 or 6.1 on his wizards..... so if you want in your wizard the same os that you have in you touch go here...

if you want the cube just download it, search for tnt cube 1933 1620 and earlier cab
maybe the os 1620 is more glossy but you can try the 1933 from him too.

Probably. Try the TNT PRO ROM, and load the cube separately. Nobody's cooking with the cube any more. Manila is the new flavor du jour. Frankly, I think you'd be much happier with Hornet 4.5...

after trying different roms i finally settled on nbd v.9.2 it looks exactly like htc touch and its so fast too

Standard ROM

Hi,
Sorry to ask but I have spent a while trying to find an answer.
My HTC Touch Pro touch screen isn't working. I am using TAEL rom and since installing the touch screen has stopped working.
I would like to flash back to the orginal 6.1 Windows Mobile ROM, but I can't find it. Does anyone know where I can find it please.

Flash official Touch Cruise 6.1 onto Orbit 2?

I have done as much reading as I can take but I'm still not clear so decided I should post and ask outright.
I have an O2 Orbit 2 and would like to "debrand" the phone, preferably with a clean standard ROM. Am I able to flash my Orbit 2 with the official HTC Touch Cruise Windows Mobile 6.1 available from the HTC website?
I have successfully downloaded the update but wanted a guru to give me the go ahead before I potentially destroy my mobile.
Also, if I am going to use their official update, do I use their official instructions?

I'm now getting the feeling this is not such a common request. I have done some more reading and I now believe the Orbit 2 and the Touch Cruise are actually quite different internally. Which make me think maybe this is a no go...
Does anyone know if it's possible to get my Orbit 2 into an as new state, like when I first got it from O2, but without any of the O2 branding included.

you can flash the official HTC rom from Touch Cruise, but you must have Hard Spl at first .

Looks like I managed to get it working

I managed to flash Hard-SPL (from the link provided) and then the official Touch Cruise rom onto my phone. Everything is working great.
Can anyone confirm this is the most recent version of Hard-SPL because it is referred to as V2 but I am seeing links to versions as high as V7 elsewhere. Are these newer versions or are they intended for different phones?
Also, if I step to bootloader it still has the "SPL-2.20.Olinex" string displayed on the tri-color screen. Is this what I should expect or should it have been overwritten with the SPL from the Touch Cruise rom I flash on since Hard-SPL?

Don't worry, everything is alright.
Official ROM does not include Bootloader, so you still see SPL-2.20Olinex in Bootloader Screen.
Flashed my Xda Orbit 2 with official Touch Cruise ROM too.

Awesome. I much prefer the Touch Cruise ROM. The HTC Today Screen thing is brilliant. Also the ROM seems to be less cluttered and is definitely working more smoothly than the O2 original.
