Had enough,
sure i shall miss the stuff you can do but tbh for me most avg phones are closing in fast,on ability and im sick to death of crashes, bugs, reinstall's
it jusy aint worth the headache,im off to find a decent Phone
well the more normal "smart" phones catch up
the more advanced their software will be and
the more issues they will get
:s
we're doomed if we do and doomed if we dont
yer your right just phone and msn n email will do me these days
If I would put the energy that I put into my PDA (to get it work properly to keep in touch with my mates), into the relationsships with my friends, they would like me more than now... Most of them don't care if I call then via VoIP or Skype if at least I DO call...
I had a few of things that bugged me about having a PDA ,but i compromised them in the belief that ,they it will be far more worthwhile to have one and live with the issues
but the faults list grows and the good point just arent enough
TBH I don't know what the fuss is about. I have an XDA mini which is fabulous. Never crashed in 6 months and I'm running Tom Tom aswell. The only problem is that it's not working properly now, but that's since it got soaked in my pocket riding from Newcastle to Edinburgh on the bike in the rain. It's still going and it handles everything I do and more without question. I'm sticking with my PDA phone to save me carrying two things around with me (I need all the stuff when I'm running a business).
I have had my last 3 HTC devices from a friend who has bought them, had problems, and bought the next one that comes along thinking things will get better.
I never have these unreliability issues he always has, and they are the exact same devices he has had.
I put it down to the type of person, and knowledge of the device.
Sure, you shouldn't need to be a technical person just to use a PDA, but it obviously makes a difference.
Maybe you just need to stick to a Palm or Blackberry
Jace - I'm interested to know which device you used.
I used the xda2s and the xda exec and got really fed up with both.
I'm not remotely technical and just wanted a good phone that does email and few other bits when needed.
Got the xda mini in July this year and have never looked back. It is a pure phone that does the few extra things I need without issue.
If possible I suggest you try it as you may be surprisingly pleased with it.

In a way, I could understand where the original poster is coming from. But don't get me wrong I love windows mobile devices, but if your like most people, we just want things to work. So when things don't work, your either the type that'll find ways to make it work, or the type that'll just find another device. We have to be honest, those of us that come in and out of these forums on a daily basis with hacks and solutions and those of us looking for hacks and solutions for our windows powered devices are among the few that'll actually take the time out to do so. If you think about it, It can literally take up to 3 months are more to actually get the device operating exactly the way you wanted it. Mabey that's just a little too long for the average person.
I too have felt like the OP, contemplating over and over again, after the countless amount of resets, whether or not I should just go get a fancy nokia n series or something, but I have grown found of my wizard, and its kinda of fun hacking away at its OS to see it become highly operational, kinda like the way M$ should of made it out the box. Just my two cents.
Here is a story about a friend of mine (no point posting my opinion as part of the reason I love my Jamin is the fact that I can tweak it and make little apps for it - so I don't care even if it does require reset on occasion).
Any way this friend has a company phone (a simple Nokia) and he gets a lot of calls on it (part of the job). Trouble is this phone doesn't have BT so my friend complained that at the end of the day his ear heart.
The thing is, this particular friend always told me that Phone edition Pocket PC devices are too unstable, too big and generally useless as phones.
One they he got a MIO a701. At first he told me he was just using it for the BT so he can speak through the hands-free.
Now he just won't give it up. Even when his headset broke he still refused to go back to the regular phone.
Once while on a lunch break 2 minutes walk outside the office, he wanted to log in to his account on our server but for some reason the device couldn't connect (faulty GPRS settings). He begged me to use my Jamin.
I wouldn't let him, arguing that his work station was just an elevator ride away.
Eventually he broke, and admitted that he just couldn't give up the convenience.

I have owned a MDA Compact, which was ok but when i up dated the ROM from the TMobile site it fried the unit,
I then got an Exec,i have found that ok for my needs,(being phone, email, msn, web browsing)
but i agree with the above comments for some one not so minded tech wise, then maybe an incorrect choice of device for me
Basically an out the box unit ,is ok,just ok
but to make it decent takes some effort to get the best from the device
Ok they cant make the device suit everyone out the box,i undertsand that
however freezing up and soft resets a plenty, they are just too unstable for me
beofre my job required me to be away for long periods and the Exec fitted my needs ,now i think ill just be happy with less abilitys and more stability
The smartphones and nokias are gaining ground fast, for my needs maye they are better
The upside for me is the way you can alter and personalise the devices
but to be used day in day out as also my main phone there are far to unstable
In my case i had a compact which went tits up after a simple ROM update,
then an Exec which would freeeze and be a bit moody but then when the shutdown.battery problem started ouccruing(got new battery now)i just said to myself
you know what aint worth the hassle
dodgy pics a cheap nokia can match and beng a brick etc etc
maybe id be more suited to a smartphone or just a humble phone but me and HTC Pda just dont work out
I suppose at this point in timei dont have the time to mess around too much with the units
So my ideal maybe my Exec for away from home times and other certain situs but day to day maybe a an all singing all dancing mobile

You hit the nail on the head. You find it fun, and actually know how to get into the OS and mess around with it. There are plenty out there like me who haven't the faintest clue. We want our xda's to work out the box, and thats all. We come on this forum to 'take' information: get interesting apps, ask silly questions etc. I've very rarely ever actually contributed as such.
And then, when something doesn't work, we either continue to bang our heads against a wall trying to get a fix (from you guys, not from ourselves), or we move on.
Getting my xda mini s was my last attempt, and I am glad to say that it has never crashed; is never slow on answering a call; does not look like it belongs in a laptop case; and email works perfectly. The only thing I would like would be a today screen like I see so many screen shots of on here, but I haven't a clue and it would probably slow the thing down anyway
These devices are so young anyway it's no surprise they have problems. Can't wait to see what's gonna be around in 5 years time.....
good point mate
ive just read the hermes prob thread & ive had the exec battery problem
nothing is flawless in life, but it dont help that they release these products with faults
your mayor phone makers dont release units with big issues
i think id seen the light when having the exec battery problem came along and while a new battery arrived,i used a nokia 3250 it was such a nice change to have a device that preformed its functions
i just think we accpet a lot in PDA's that maybe we wouldnt put up with in a PC,Car or phone
we think its a trade of for there many functions for some problems but were do you draw the line
how many soft resets do we do?freezes?
anyone reading this do you feel ive just picked the wrong devices?,if so what do you think may have been with hindsight a better option?

So before I call up HTC and ask them if I have a fualty device, I thought I'd ask the guys here
I got my Touch Pro around two weeks ago, and after getting annoyed with its screen sensitivity (lack off) and the terrible scrolling method they have implemented, I flashed it to RomeOS 1.21....
The problems:
Even when its in the case, the phone sometimes does random things, and yesterday it called my friend on its own, while I wasn't even touching it (it had been on the table for atleast 10 minutes - granted it was face down, but still?)
Does HTC think this device is for people with small hands?? Clicking the cross at the top right and the two buttons at the bottom of the screen are are chore... It wont recognise my thumb pressing on them, I have to point my nail at them!!
Scrolling through the touch flo interface gets laggy esp. when you scroll slowly past internet related sections... Guess this must be a software based problem though.
Scrolling through the contact list is just ridiculous - When I flick the list (on All People) most the time it goes into overdrive and just keeps scrolling. And when I finally find the contact I want and try to click the name (again thumb press), it assumes I am trying to still search through the contacts and moves to another contact.
Using opera mobile is one of the worst internet experiences I have had... I had heard raving reviews about it, but using it I just find everything to be slow - Zooming is laggy, and again clicking sometimes brings up a context menu, or sometimes takes ages to recognise that I have clicked a link and so I have to click that little icon at the bottom right of the screen to see if anything is loading.
Most my problems seem to be related to the touch experience on the device.
Does anyone have the same issues? If not should I call up HTC?
+1 On most of it
The laggy experice is sad, if you cant make something work 100% why realease it? I have the pro now but have had the diamond without keyboard and trying to write with it took about 3 weeks but still you would type wrong. I took my friends iphone the other day and no lagging wile browsing thru menues or when typing not one misstyping.
And how long has the windows mobile been around? 6 years + ? And still they cant get **** to work. I have tried custom roms but they also have bugs.
And if anyone is gonna complain about my iphone experince stfu. Cause after iphone all windows mobile phones are trying to make their interface look cooler, Xperia, Omnia, Diamond etc. etc.

Um are you sure about that? I am a iPhone hater, but doesn't mean I won't correct you on how wrong you are. First off. Let me explain some points. the ONLY reason the iPhone is soo popular is because it has a capactive touchscreen, is idiot usable, and is made by apple. If you compare it to the Omnia, it is pretty much very close and I would say the Omnia wins if it has a better resolution. First off, apple tried to base their interface off of previous work. Then winmo companies stepped up and made a better interface. TF3D, Omnia, and Xperia panels ARE NOTHING LIKE the iPhoney crap. Seriously? Do you even see a connection in TF3D and iPhone crap interface? Cause I don't. I don't know where you're going with this one. I could kinda see it with the panels, but then again, you're pushing it when comparing it to the iPhone. I can agree that HTC looked at the iPhone and tried to make a better interface using it as a base, but seriously. TouchFLO 3D looks nothing like the iPhone interface or "whatever the crap interface is that doesn't have a name."
Im not saying that they copyed the entire iphone look. Im saying that after the iphone they all tried making their phones hotter. And that you cant disagree with. And whats with the apple hate in this forum? Are you guys scared of them? Why not take the best out of them. Everytime someone here mentions an iphone its like saying something nasty about your mom.
First off all, apple did it. They have never had a phone on their products list but they made one and its a topseller, for how long has htc been doing phones?

Eh. I'm hating on apple for making a great phone, but killing it and not making it as customizable as windows. The average consumers love it, but the tech savvy people hate that. We LIKE complicated things. Yes, I'll agree that after apple made the iPhone, HTC and other companies stepped up. But that happens. Before, they had no reason to step up. Before the iPhone, believe it or not, people barely ever complained about their PPC. They loved it and HTC had no reason to make it better if we were still buying it from them. They are in for the profits. So now, when they see some people diverting from HTC devices to iPhone and other devices, they decide to make their devices better.
Reasons iPhone was top seller:
WAY WAY WAY too much advertising
Very cheap (Reason for 2nd gen. First gen's reason is: see below)
Too over hyped and too over looked.
From apple
Very "user-friendly"
Many mac fanboys bought the iPhone
I-phones are designed to be idiot proof, hence they sell to mostly idiots with money to waste/ burn.
My diamond has a better resolution, its smaller oh & I can do way loads more things with it than an I-phone can do.
It's kind of like the I-pod issue, overated/ expensive crap...
But we all have our own opinions, its just mines is that the i-phones an overated heap of junk
My diamond doesnt phone any1 unless i make it do, maybe u have a faulty device or maybe u have ghosts in your house that like messing with u ?

Im seeing your point. But also your saying that HTC had no reason? What kind of bs is that. So just cause they have something that works they dont need to evolve? Then I say Halleluja iphone, cause the windows mobile looks like crap, if it wasnt for the tf3d i wouldt have spend that much money on this phones. And you cant hate apple for that reason cause then you should hate ericsson, nokia, sagem, samsung, motorola etc etc shouldnt you?

I actually love the opera browser on the diamond & i especially love the way it zooms in & out with the wheel, maybe its just cause your not used to it yet or maybe you just have made up your mind already & just hate your diamond pro ? wasnt it ?
either way I think the way opera runs on a diamond rocks, seen a sh*t load of phones. pda's with "so called internet" & the way the diamond runs with opera is the best ive experienced yet. I tried out an I-phones inet use on a m8's & found it a bit limited shall we say, sure the touch is great but the actual ability of it's browser's total crap.
my other 2 cents worth on this arguement here
just my 2 cents here..
i love opera..i find it very easy to use. The only problem i have is that scrolling through the bookmarks is slow (without the scrolling bar)
as about the finger size, i have to say its a matter of getting used to.you have to get used to where exactly you have to touch the screen with your "big" fingers to get it right.
Calling on its own: This is related to the phone unlocking andthen the screen touch does the rest. What you have to do is make sure its locked when not in use. There are many applications that do that. I use sensor lock, others are throttlelock, s2u2, etc
Personally i dont have many issues with the contact list. Then again, you can always type the first letters and it will find them in no time..so no real need to scroll unless you have to.Dont forget you can always use the dpad and the ok button to select (if you cant do it with touch)
Thanks for the replies... I didnt really compare this to the iphone, so not sure why all the iphone talk :S.
I spent the last 20 minutes, repeatedly re-aligning the screen till it recognised my input well, so I guess that issue is fixed.
I then downloaded a contact replacement, so now its kind of better (apart from the fact I have to go to programs to reach contacts) - anyone know how to replace tabs so I can link it to my new contact manager.
I am going to try Skyfire as a replacement to opera mobile...
And as for Iphone being for idiots - I was one of the first to get the Ipod Touch, and whenever my friends would use it for the first time, everything worked fast, and it was easy to use, so your right it was for idiots lool.
My belief of why the Iphone is so popular -
When I first handed my touch pro to my friends, it was dog **** slow, and they got really lost when it went into the dirty winmo interface. Because I paid over £400 for it, I defended it to no end, saying it was the first firmware and it would get better. But this is what seperates the iphone to every other device. When a newbie uses the iphone, it just works and works quickly. So word of mouth of the product is excellent. Even though the HTC touch pro has more under the hood and better features one time users never see it, instead all they see is a slow interface with steep learning curve.

Be aware of the fact that Skyfire is only partially working on VGA displays -- changing the orientation and possibly some other operations will cause glitches. They've promised a VGA version, but they haven't suggested when that might be available.

Not to keep the iphone praise/bashing alive but....
I owned WM phones/PPCs for the last 6 years and have loved them. But with any techie I became bored with my Kaiser once all the fun had been lost with rom flashing. It was time to find a new phone to mess around with and flash crap on. I picked up an Iphone just for fun and immediately though "wow, it's fast, intuitive and simply works". I quickly bought a Touch Diamond and started to compare them head to head. the Diamond had a great screen. But it was slow, very slow, even with tweaked roms. I sold the Diamond about 2 weeks into owning it and have not regretted it one bit.
BUT, I do plan on buying a Touch Pro and getting rid of the Iphone. The iphone has its issues like any phone but it has worked almost flawlessly for months now and never slows down like the diamond/kaiser/wizard/hermes/excalibur....that I have owned.
Is the iphone for idiots/sheep? Probably, but for me it was nice to have a phone that simply worked, and worked well. I just miss the big things like mms, cut and paste, OPERA, file explorer, TomTom........ I am willing (I think) to go back to a slower phone for more options.
one last thing, anyone who has actually used an iphone will agree, thier onscreen keyboard is the best in any device I have ever used. WTF was HTC thinking with the Diamond's onscreen keyboards. There almost worthless in comparison. I can type almost as fast with my iphone's onscreen keyboard as I could with my kaisers built in keyboard.
HTC has a long ways to go with the TF3D interface, it is very slow. I like the idea of it but the implementation is just poor. It has been 3 or 4 months now since I last used it so maybe it has gotten better.
Guess I will see when the Touch Pro hits AT&T's shelves later this week(I hope).

Idk what you're talking about lawl. The only brands I would ever think about owning and have owned is Samsung, Sony, and HTC. I despise all other brands. So I guess yeah, I do hate all other brands besides these 3. TF3D is fast on my kaiser so I have no idea what some people are talking about it being slow. If you people don't like your diamond/touch pro, just stop whining and move on to the iPhone if you think it's so great. I guarantee you'll miss a lot of features if you've been with WinMo for a long time.
Seriously people... are these faults due to a bad handset? or is it a widespread issue?
As for skyfire... installed it, and I could only see half the app!! Shame - there online demo seemed so good.

Yeah, I'm really going to miss Skyfire until they issue their VGA upgrade (that is, assuming AT&T brings out the Fuze first! -- it seems like the two companies are competing for who can delay the longest!). I use it for nearly all my browsing on my 8525, and I like it a lot.
Look, the iPhone haters can hate on the iPhone all they want but you can't dismiss the fact that Opera Mobile on the Touch Pro is barely acceptable. Mobile Safari beats it i'd have to admit. Like an earlier posted mentioned, it's slow as bollocks...OMG is it slow. Slow to acknowledge any input, slow to refresh/redraw and so on. Granted it's better than Explorer but just barely.
I played with a friend's G1 and the web browser puts Opera Mobile to shame by a long shot. I was jealous. Now i still love my Sprint Touch Pro but gravely disappointed in the web browser, it could be so much better.

Eh. Haven't noticed about Opera. Could care less about opera. I use Netfront and Skyfire But skyfire is out of the race till they develope it for VGA
is the opera complaints here applicable to all users? or is it limited to a few % of lemons out there?
if it's a lemon issue then i'm not too concerned...
and look guys...every product has some flaws and may have lemons here and there...even apple makes lemons - 1% of 2nd gen iphone...10mil translates into 100k...that's aweful lot of lemons don't u think?

Lolololol I love that.
hey, about a week ago i traded my fuze, and... holy crap i feel as if a blight has been lifted off of me. I cannot believe i have spent this long using this fuze thing. I mean it is alright, but the phone is so annoying to use (and yes i used to say it wasnt, but when you really use an easy to use phone, you realize how ****ing annoying the fuze is)
litteraly this treo is like a god send
Things i really like about it over the touch pro
1 way better battery life
2 HEADPHONE jACK, now i can actually bring my phone to a house, and play music there without having a retarded addapter
3 the speakerphone and sound (is like 10x) as good, you cannot even compare it
4 the screen is suprisingly good, and considering its almost the same size, i barrely even notice the res cuz... the touch pro has way to small of a screen for such a high resolution
5 THe buttons, ooo, they are just so nice. I can actually do stuff on my phone EASILY! like super easily
6 GPS works significantly better, no comparison
7 Call quality is better, and louder
8 video recording is better , but pictures are worse
9
...
what i like more about touch pro
1 it seems a bit stronger, incase i drop it
2 i guess the screen is better
3 its a little faster (but honestly the treo performs perfectly well)
4 accelerometer ( but really like... i think i can live without it considering all the other bunuses)
i was origionally debating to buy a Touch pro, or Treo, and went with the Touch pro due to all the better reviews and things.
man i wish i just went with the treo
it just puts a smile on my face, its just
so easy
pretty
fast
and and
awesome
THIS IS SO DISCUSTING!!!
I think i might have just vomited in my mouth slightly.
let me go grab a paper bag for ya. this disgusts me as well. whoever you traded your fuze to must be a lucky guy and knew what he was getting himself into. mad kudos for that guy
Thats funny I was just the opposite of you. I prefer the Fuze because of the endless customization. And the not so stupid ass screen size! Also after about 2 months of use the phone became very slow. To each his own I guess
im sure you dont work for treo or anything like that eh?
if by chance your THAT stupid, do us all a favor and GET OUT OF THE GENE POOL!!!!!!
lol
yes, for endless customization
and no, to all the other great things that the Touch pro doesnt just for its nice screen and a bit more custumization.
i prefer being able to come over my friends and play mp3s at his house anytime i want without adapters, and having very good battery life.
my treo pro plays mp3s for about 7-8 hours
before running out of batteries
and really, the touch pro is like a new device that is so new that is has failed in so many ways. The buttons, the headphone jack, the speakers, the battery life
i guess the only thing they didnt fail on is making it so crappy
that everyone had to custumize it to even make it useable.
The Treo definantly has the TPro on the headphone jack... but the low earphone volume can be corrected... you did an even swap though... i mean as far as $$$ the touch pro is worth more?... glad your happy with the Palm though... ill definantly stay with my Touch pro its fully customized and i LOVE IT
the palm might have the headphone jack but its not hard to find a small extusb to 3.5mm adapter. thats never my issue. everything else i think the touch pro does better. better keyboard, better screen, faster processor, more ram, better camera WITH FLASH, the accelerometer, fm radio. it also has better app support being a 4:3 rather than 1:1. htc also has a long standing relationship with windows mobile so it has great things to make it better like tf3d, the task manager that actually closes programs, a much better dialer (default dialer is an eyesore, palm!), and alot more. htc phones also have followings and development, like how the touch pro already has 6.5. the gps on the touch pro was a bit of a special ed student but with the new radio you get a lock in seconds and because of the better hardware it has faster polling so gps is better on the touch pro. i really hate that tiny spongey keyboard on palms. im sure you love your palm but i find it hard to believe that the palm would be better for me so you shouldnt tell me to convert.
well the 3.5 mm adapter is a total pain in the ass, like... since when do i need adapters to just listen to music peacefully
Yes, all the hardware / custumization is great, but the treo already comes with a light rom.
Touch, needed cuztumization cuz it just sucked so much. I have no need for TFT3D on palm, because all the hardware buttons do the same thing.
I use WSktask, and it closes all programs that arent running.
I basically put allll of my Touch Pro apps on my treo, and the only one that doesnt work quite so well is GSPlayer mp3
Its just for the touch pro i have to read forums, download stuff, roms, radions, bla bla bla
the treo.. i dont have to download it. Its a finished product. If you buy it, yo can use it rightnow.
if you buy a touch pro, you cant use it till you reflash it, and do all that stuff to it. Its such a pain in the ass to keep up with it.
I must say the treo actually seems to load webpages even faster then the PRO
most of my friends have liked the TREO siginficantly more with the pro. No one was really impressed with my modded, and romed/ radioed cool Touch PRO
but everyone loves this phone.
The custom Treo dialer is pefectly normal. I dont even look at it. If i want to call someone i press the (keyboard) letters of their name and press call
i never open the cal app first.
TF3D is only needed when you have all touch and ****ty ass buttons. If you have good buttons, there is no need for it. I got a button for calendar, for messages, weather and schedules are on the desktop, interenet is a softkey
wirless has its own button
camera has its button
and its so nice to have 5 people use speakerphone from my one little phone, and hear everything pefectly.

For the record, when ANYONE looks at my phone, they always comment on how awesome it is and all the features it has.
Never have i ever heard somone that has any palm device go WOW that so FREAKIN AWESOME!
i dono..
the touch pro looks cool when its unfolded
when in normal mode it looks like a rather basic phone with a pretty small screen for its cabaility. Its buttons suck too, both in response, and in button quality. Like the volume buttons feel so cheap and easy to press. This is not the same on the treo
the new treo looks rather impressive, i dont know how many of you have actually looked at it and used it.
but it really looks nice, and the screen is really nice and really bright. like... its pretty sweet
and i can navigate all my menues and options just using the dpad, calendar, msgs button.
and since i leave them open, they always appear instantly, and i dont need to do any TF3D sliding my finger around to do anything. i press 1 button and its done.
I agree ice. When everyone looks at my phone, they are all amazed, and when they start to use it, they are even more amazed. And you shouldnt get a phone just cause it "looks" pretty, you should get a phone that will perform well and can adapt. If you want a pretty phone, then get a treo, but if you want a good, customizable, reliable phone, then get the Fuze.
...and the God said,"let there be bozos..."
Without ignoramuses like this the world would be less colorful...more cheerful and peaceable, no doubt...but mos def not as interesting. This guy obviously is starved for attention, or just plain home-schooled.
But honestly, its a toss up as to who is more foolish...this guy for needing to be spoon-fed his gadgets OR US for even humoring him with a response?!?
*mg!*
ps...and oh yeah, can the camera on your little (be)Treo's do this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bjeWehQrKjs
to each its own but there is no way you can compare the two enjoy your Palm but theres no way im giving up my TPro im enjoying the tv out looking at movies converted with projection's video converter
touch pro is still better in every way. nothing you have said so far made the treo sound better. you may just be convincing yourself that it ok you bought a worse phone.
also when it comes back to your adapter issue, extusb allows more than just audio out. try connecting your treo pro to a tv. and sharing youtube videos with your friends. or doing a powerpoint presentation at work.
well if you dont like customizing then why did you come to a website that has "developers" in its link and where people develop new software to make your phone better? You say the internet sucks on the TP. Did you use internet Explorer? Also I want to see you get a fix on a GPS signal within at most 2 seconds with your internet turned off.
hey for the first several people that posted on this thread dont flame the dude for trading his TP for a Treo, if its his decision then let it be, the raphael isnt for everyone, but to the thread starter "youre making a not soo smart decision" reasons would be
1.Treo has VERY limited customization compare to TP
2.it doesnt have light sensor and g-sensor
3.You can NOT even switch it off u have to take the battery out
4.treo feels like plastic unlike TP feels very solid all though minus the fact if u have the FUZE the back feels very slippery
5.Camera picture quality is very excellent with TP
6.the TP can be WAY faster than the treo with the proper ROM and setup
7. advantage with G-Sensor u can add aps like Touch InCall tweak which would make ur life easier by switching from in ear to speakerphone without pressing anything
8. u can still play music WITHOUT the adapter thats IF ure gonna be listening to internet streaming music(but if ure referring to listening with head phones yes i do agree the adapter can be a hassle but it doesnt bother me)
9. GPS locks almost instantly even indoors
10. FLASHING is the big + with TP customizations
but those are the reasons why id still keep my FUZE(TP)
like i said though enjoy your Treo, ure always welcome back to the forums for anything involving TP
P.S. i think youll be waiting for the TouchPro 2?
the touch pro is the epitome of windows mobile. forever customization and development. always a project to make it better. if you dont want that then i dont think you want windows mobile. the iphone or palm pre would be the solution. not the palm treo pro. go for something already customized for you in a way someone else things is better and have it developed on their time.
Hi Guys (and girls),
I've been a long time lurker in this forum and finally joined up partly to thank you all for the help I have gleaned from these pages over the years, absolutlely invaluable and it's saved my life more than once so many thanks to all of you, and partly to post my thoughts on the new TG01 which Orange just gave me.
I've had smartphones for years but have never really got on with fully touchscreen devices, to me a phone is primarily that, a phone, and I like having physical buttons for such things as dialling numbers, to me that just seems like a minimum requirement for a phone, being able to dial a number. I also don't like having to find some shade just so I can make a call and have never had a problem seeing some buttons even in bright sunshine. Over the years I've had a lot of HTC devices and the one I liked the most was the Orange E650 branded 'candy bar phone', I had four of them in total and to me it was just a great mix of form and function but then my last one broke so here I am with the TG01 becasue Orange no longer supply the Touch HD.
So the TG01, hmmm, what a missed opportunity. Why Toshiba didn't wait for WM 6.5 I don't know, maybe they know more than we do, but the interface they've come up with is just rubbish, it may have beem acceptable a couple of years ago with those low rez icons but since the iphone, nah. I have downloaded the Spb interface and frankly without it the phone would have gone straight back to Orange so why Toshiba didn't just lisence it from Spb in the first place is beyond me, would have cost them what maybe a buck a phone? Or less? Instead of which they slipped some guy in their software department 50 bucks to work through his lunch break and come up with their interface, and this from a company that makes laptops, what were they thinking? Maybe what they were thinking was, 'this will get us by until WM 6.5 comes out at which point we'll ditch this and so will all our users'. Also, why no sensor so the phone knows when it's by your face or in your pocket? Jeez guys!! The reason I canned my first touch screen phone three years ago, it was an Orange M600, was because I kept doing things with my ear when I was speaking on the phone and that was THREE years ago, come on Toshiba it's not rocket science, it's a phone for goodness sake, people want to talk into it!
So, there's my 5c, as I need a new phone and there's nothing else grabbing me I may keep this one although just this morning it has started playing me up when I make and receive calls, callers can hear me but I can't hear them, the speaker is just dead and swithing to speakerphone doesn't help so I think it's a software bug rather than a hardware fault. I had put S2U2 on to prevent the 'answer a call with your pocket' phenomenon but I've taken it off again in case it was that which was causing the problem, we shall see.
Once again thanks for all the advice and I may keep you posted on my thoughts on the TG01, if I keep it.

Wow, what a warm welcome, thanks Orb I really am lost for words.
lol...gentle and ever so lovingly bit your head off.lol.
Anyway, I got to play with the TG01 recently and I think it a huge foward step in terms of hardware and an even bigger step backwards in terms of software. Its almost like the phone isn't even being challenged by they system that it runs. Compared to my Touch HD, lag is dramatically reduced and the feeling of moving from one thing to another is silky smooth. Bad news was it my old HTC Touch (no HD) was ten times better than this phone when it came to the UI. Blew my mind when i figured out they didn't even attempt to skin windows, just create the ugly striped shell. Huge screen and I was sitting there doing the corner of the fingernail tap just to hit those small icons and little spots on the WINMO interface. This phone plus HTC loving= best phone available. I mean i really took a step back and got to understand how far HTC and samsung have come in making winmo usable.
I didn't get to put any programs on to the phone but as you did I figure SPB3 is probably the best way to go. And no comment about the terrible call quality, I just text my friend now cause it sounds like he's in a hollow room with bad reception ALL THE TIME. Good luck my friend. Probably should have waited for the Omnia2 or picked yourself up a TD2, this is the price you pay.
Thanks
Hey Style 1. thanks for the feedback and best wishes. As I said I may not keep this phone but I can trade it for around £300.00 without blinking and I also have two brand new Treo Pros that Palm gave me so I'm not too concerned, if puch comes to shove I'll pick up a Touch HD somewhere and I shouldn't be out of pocket on the deal. I needed to renew my contract anyway to get access to the unlimited data package Orange are doing now so all in all I'm good.
As to the phone I agree with your take on the GUI but you really should see it with the one from Spb, it's like a different device and we both know it needed to be, it would have been back in the box and back to Orange the same day if the Toshiba interface was my only option. Now all I need to find is a good 'slide to unlock' programme that works for this phone and I'm away, tried both S2U2 and TouchLockPro to no avail so maybe I'll give Pocketsheild a whirl, got any advice on that my friend?
Hey everyone. my girlfriend is looking to get a different phone but doesn't want all the data plan and stuff the smartphones have. i read somewhere that the touch pro doesnt need a data plan is that true.. Also Is this thing laggy or anything i have heard the diamond is a bit laggy. if so do the cooked roms seem to make it smoother and more reliable.. thanks for any info!!! its greatly appreciated. just wanna know whats shes getting into before she gets one
If I'm not mistaken. any phone that you purchase off contract/third party can be used without data (I could be wrong here). Probably best to get the newer phones as the TP is not the best of the best but it'll get you by, IF you want to compromise price. Other than that, it's not a bad phone, I honestly have no desire for a new phone at the moment. I've had mine for more than two years and I am liking my current configuration. Let's put it this way, if she like using a phone with an outdated OS, then by all means! If she wants something more, I'd go with an Android device... IMHO
well she has messed with the new smart phones and she was just like its just to much for me. i don't need to use any of that stuff. she has an lg env touch which of course isnt a smart phone. She doesnt want to spend a whole lot of money on a phone that has a bunch of things that it can do but she wont use it for. Well she wants one but And i have seen some android roms made for the touch pro? im not sure. she likes the keyboard and all that. how is the touch screen on it? and you can get it in GSM right? i was probably going to flash the energy rom on it for her and all that. how much better is it then the env touch.

Just as R^7Z above, I've had my TP for over two and a half years now, and am still immensely happy with it (not meaning to say though that I don't occasionally yearn for something faster and flashier). I've dropped my TP countless times onto concrete and tiles, and even have it fly off the back of my motorbike onto the road and get driven over by a car - and only had to replace the battery cover! So it's definitely a sturdy 'phone.
If your girlfriend's used to capacitive touch screens, she probably won't particularly like the TP's resistive screen. Though if she's got long nails, she might actually prefer it (I remember a colleague with long nails complaining when she got an iPhone 3).
EnergyROM might initially be a little daunting for her with all of the extra functionality (multiple screens, etc), but the layout's very easy to modify with the built-in tools, so you can make it easier to access.
The best thing about the TP now as opposed to when I got it, is the price. You can get a brand new one from China for under $300 including postage - I originally paid almost $1.2k for mine in '08.
