i'm kinda crossposting here as well (i got HTC universal)
what are the alternatives that we have???
Photo Contact PRO sucks -- i really dislike its interface
SPB Mobile shell -- looks good, kinda what i'm looking for, except SLOW and DRAINS battery like crazy
i'm curious if HTC came out with an updated Contacts app on its newer models. I read about "HTC Home Photo Contact tab" but have no idea what it looks like...
anything else i missed?
PS. can somebody post pics of what Touch Pro has??? or even a video... THanks
PS2: if it looks like this http://i.gsmarena.com/vv/newsimg/08/06/htc-touch-pro/gsmarena_001.jpg , then I GOTTA TRY THIS!

SPB Mobile Shell isn't slow and doesn't drain my battery at all.
Have you tried the latest version ?

I am sorry, but are you looking into replacing your uni with a TP?
Please dont do that! You can buy the TP, but please keep the UNI as well, its the best HTC device ever, and it probably always will be!

Hi!
I recently got my Polaris, it is great! everything I ever wanted, but
....IT was PAINFULLY slow sometimes (a lot slower than S730, TyTN II and even the Touch Dual. ) (no this is not related to videodrivers, although they are needed as well!!)
So I spent some time figuring out why, and I found it!
The swedish rom is packed with stuff, like opera, and other things. Among this are the well known "Big start menu" and "Task manager"
Not sure which of these are the bad guy, but I disabled both and what do you know, the device is A LOT more responsive! (now it is a fast (well everything is relative) as a TyTN II and the other 400mhz devices)
Still need the videodrivers though for hardcore gaming and videoplaying (although coreplayer does a great job here!)
How do you disable the Task manager?
Kind regards,
Svante
You know what? I think you're right! Tested on a french "SFR/Vodafone" ROM.

You go to "Settings -> System -> Taskmanager"
Go to "Button", unckeck "Activate fastmenu on today screen" (or something similar since I am on a swedish rom)
again, not sure which of the two that makes your device slow as hell...but it sure does make a difference.
The appearance of the cube is much faster than usual!
Very strange but that works, folks!
I strip mine down to the core - nothing loads up apart from PocketPlus.
The culprit is definately the Large Start Menu thing I never use the Task Manager as I prefer WKTask. Thanks for the tip

Yes you do... Check that out!
Thanks for trying to help but really, I don't.
Thanks..seems to work on the dutch HTC rom also.
My device is a lot faster when i uncheck both applications.
Really usefull tip!!!

I don't have taskmamager either...my phone is a O2 Orbit 2 UK ...although there is some kind of O2 app running in the lower right of the screen in the home page....maybe thats the culprit...because my phone is running crap and slow...compared to my brother's Orbit 1....
This is one retarded phone !
I have installed absolutely nothing at all....everything is factory.
GOOD PHONE......CRAP SOFTWARE.....ESPECIALLY O2 BRANDED...This really needs sorting.
worked great, i got rid of the large start menu only
i kind of like the task manager thing..
if anyone knows of a replacement that is less of a resource hog i'd love to test it.

Try WKtask. It's different from the HTC Task Manager, but really worth (at least) a try!

I also have a (UK) XDA Orbit 2 and (sadly) it does not have the Task Manager icon that you show in your screen shot.
For those of you that have a UK 02 Phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=368836
The normal HTC apps that everyone else got, we didn't get so you either manually install them or not. The O2 task manager applet is the biggest memory hog, I got rid of it. Those that do want the Task manager, there is a post on tweaks in the Polaris upgrade section with cabs - get em there and install em.

I can see a small white line above the task bar, which is a shame, but I'm only being extra fussy!

It is the battery meter. You can disable it in "preferences" by long-pressing on the X area
Ok if some1 could make a tab with a GOOGLE Search bar and GOOGLE Maps launcher thatd be awsome!
I assume you mean something like this. This is a screen shot from the M2D google tab. It is quite handy.. or was when I used it on my HTC touch.
Wouldnt be a bad idea to have it as a tab in the 3d version if someone hasnt done so already

Yet another toy... if you like this kind of fetish get an iPhone. It is the best in that area. Do not forget what PPC means.
You just can download it here: *CLICK*
Tried it and it does not work. Getting an error when I want to apply anything in settings...
Yes this looks great ,but how to download it? on developers site there is no download link ...
Ups got it
click on the title of the post.. then it will forward to the download
Hmm doesnt work.Error.....
This is what the site says about S'Skin Lock
S’Skin Lock Application has 1 setting menu to set locking time and screen backlight.
Currently they are working on Samsung Omnia only, I have tested them on HTC HD2 too but they aren’t running. If any of our readers got them to work on their devices let us know.
it's on
http://www.wmskins.com/blog/sskin-lock-new-animated-lockscreen-application-for-windows-mobiles
must have hardware detection inside, even on samsung it only work on certain model.
i would like to have that 2
i checked and it requires the flashlite_mmi.dll
it is available in Omnia2 dump OS.nb.
Dont know if it uses any more sensors from Omnia. I would like also to use this one on HD2. Any more advance ppl could help maybe?
Deleted.......
has anyone contacted the developers regarding a htc compatible version?
We can try to install the adobe flash lite 2.1. Now I can swtich on the setting button in the startMeun. But the srceen lock still can't run. >_<

Whether I have sent an e-mail having asked there will be a support of other phones. I look forward to hearing. And program YellowMan, Butterfly I have started on the HD2 but G-sensor does not work in the program.
But the blocking picture is displayed also an unblocking works correctly. In Butterfly the butterfly flies at a touch to the screen as is shown in video, but the back background is static.

Maybe we could trick/hack the G-Sensor or smth.
I really don't see anything impressive in that. Actually useless to me. Just as a a guy at the begining of post said: Iphone like fetish... Nice, but useless.

Why can't we have something nice, even if it's useless?!
I completely understand: The iphone is a toy, the HD2 is a powerful device with endless productivity possibilities... But why does that have to mean that the opposite is also true - Only the iphone can have cool toys? Never understood that argument...

Curious to know, after looking at the demo video for Windows Phone 7 (or windows mobile 7 whatever), is there some sort of widget we could put on our screens, or has anyone heard of one, that can show off our recent calls? I think that would be handy indeed. I'll do some more searching but I didn't see anything yet, if I find something, I'll be sure to edit and update this post.
Thanks

lol thats the first thing that I thought but hey.
to the OP all you have to do is hit "phone" on the rosie bar and it will bring up all recent calls.
I'd like a widget like this too.
yeah yeah yeah, it may seem stupid but let's put this into perspective....."dildroid"? Need I say more?
Anyway, yeah dude, seriously....would it have killed ya fingers to type out the extra letters?

Looks like the guy wants to copy something that was demo'd in a winmo7 phone.
I think it's a good idea, recent calls widget would be nice, along with any of the other "tiles" or widgets they have going on in the new winmo. One of the greatest parts of being an open OS is that if you like the idea that someone else has came up with, you can take that idea and run with it.

just looking down at a widget on the homescreen would be even easier than this method if it was available

im not sure but all i was getting at is that if you like the widget im sure a dev on here would have the know how to pull the .apk from GDE and make it a stand alone widget for any android system?
Edit: thats only IF you payed for GDE...
Hi, everyone! I have created a concept based on a joke with Apple copying some android features for the ios5 (wich i think was a step in the right direction). So, the "next google phone" looks a little like the iphone and the fiction-ad plays with the taskbar matter. By the way, the new taskbar i introduced is a concept too. It would replace the hardware buttons with a second monochrome display, adding more functionality and saving more battery power.
Well, enough talking.
Let me know what you think about it.

Maybe the pictures did not shows enough.
Well, it actually would act like the current normal hardware touch sensitive controls, displaying the same signals: back, search, options and home, just like the current ones.
But...
Once the screen is off and you are listening to music, it can act as the player controls, or even the unlock slider without need to power on the screen all time. It would notify you about new email, sms, missed calls when screen is off. But once the screen is unlocked, it get back to it's normal four button functions. Touching the notification unlocks the screen and takes you directly to the related app. Touching the back symbol on the right, marks the notification as "seen". Its more or less how it should works.
