Differences in the Sprint vs ATT Touch Pro? - Touch Pro, Fuze General

Hey there guys (and gals if there are any), I'm aware of the memory difference between the two phones, but what other things are different between the two models?
Thanks!

Just keyboard and finish-coloring
I only know of the theme differences in the TF3D between the two carriers, as well as the rounded and chrome edges of the Sprint version. The Sprint version also has the dedicated numbers across the top row of the keyboard whereas the AT&T version has the FN keys used to have a more traditional number pad over the right side of the keyboard.
I just got my AT&T version, the Fuze (I refuZe to call it that and will say Touch Pro) earlier this week. I love it, I'm gonna try to write a review soon on my blog. I find if you want to type numbers into the phone instead of looking up a contact, you can just use the touchscreen keys, which is easier than Sprint or AT&T's version of the number pad on the keyboard...

Ah, insightful. I almost never use keys to call people, I use the voice command which is built into the sprint phone. I just hold down the call button and Voice command comes alive. Or when I have the bluetooth headset just click the talk button once on that and say the contact you want to call.
I think windows mobile voice command is the most powerful feature it has over every other phone OS.
Kyle

Ther body of the fuze is WAY better and the keyboard is ALOT better and not just talking about the layout. The feel and push of the keys is much better. The spring on the keyboard is better on the fuze as well. The one big thing out of the box with the fuze vs. the sprint touch pro is the speed. The sprint touch pro is abit faster. Side by side with every tweak I know, the sprint one still out performs the fuze. Plus, the sprint touchflo 3d (out of the box) looks way better than the crappy at&t one. Thats my take. Still, I would take the GSM version any day as the battery life is better and I like the original look of the touch pro (gsm version)

huh, I played with both the Fuze and Sprint one and came away liking the Sprint one better as far as the feel, and the number buttons on top are MONEY.

At first, I felt the same way you did. You really need to play around with them side by side together for a few days to see what I am saying. I felt the keys on the sprint version were stiff andf harder to push in wheres with the fuze they were very snappy and easy. The slidder also has a better spring. Also, the overall weight of the fuze is slightly heaver than the sprint touch pro. More of a solid feel. I know the fuze is a fingerprint magnet but the overall design is better. I'm not nocking the sprint version. It STILL is a great device. I'm just sayin to me, the fuze feels nicer. Also, I could not live without tru MMS. The crappy pic mail program that sprint has on the touch pro is a damn joke!

Anyone that uses provider only services like that is a moron. haha. I could have gotton the Fuze for $100, but the Sprint phone plan pricing is what sold me.

Yes, I know of sMMS and it IS way better than stock sprint pic mail but just the fact that you need to do this on a brand new phone is kind of stupid. Itsw all about what you use your phones for. I get anywhere from 5 to 15 MMS a day on my fuze. When I had the sprint touch pro, I would not get any of them as many of them were video MMS's and sprint does NOT support that. What can I say, my wife sends me alot of cool videos thru out the day on her crappy phone butr when you have kids, it a no brainer!

Yeah, that's why I tell everyone to email me. MMS between carriers has always been a hassle. I'd think that in the future MMS will die, maybe that's why the iPhone doesn't even have it.

The iPhone does not have it because steve jobs is an idiot!! He says its dying but he also said that he will never put blue ray players into his laptops cause blue ray is also a dead end hardware?! LOL!! So many people are crying for MMS on the iPhone and STILL he says he will never ad it in. I really don't think MMS is going to die. Not everyone has email thru there phone and MMS is HUGE in Europe and they are ahead of us in the cell phone bus!

I had the Tilt and switched to the Fuze and now I dont remember ever having a Tilt lol....
fuze do it
I switched from the tilt and now I love my fuze. It definitely feels a lot better in my hand. Feels much smaller than the tilt. I love the VGA screen as well. Some people prefer the tilt due to the extra buttons that it has, but I haven't missed them at all. Hope this helps you out a little bit.

WORD!!! Tilt who??????
I had a choice a couple of years ago to go with a Tilt or a Moto Q. Went with the Q because of size. Had a hard time getting used to no touch screen. Got the Fuze when it first came out and couldn't be happier. Definitely recommended.
If you are like I've been with the whole enchilada in long-press, short-press activations of whatever functions programmed to the hardware keys you will HATE the Fuze because it's a much more finger friendly and demanding device. The keyboard layout is great (much better than the Tilt) and your hate for the Fuze will disappear after 3 days, one good fast ROM later and you wont ever look back.
I like the fuze alot better than my tilt, but I also seen that ATT is coming out with htc topaz later this year which I heard is touch hd pro, might be worth checking out/waiting for
http://www.wmexperts.com/htcs-entire-2009-lineup-leaked
you already know you need a fuze.
Since switching to the Fuze, I don't miss my Tilt at all. The Fuze is the best WinMo phone I have ever owned.
I don't miss the tilt except being able to "tilt" the screen upward - that was nice.. but the tilt was slow, video, and touchflo...
So far I have had my tilt since Nov 2008 and it keeps impressing me. It is just a excellent device...

Doo Eet Noaaawww!
Thanks everyone,
Went ahead and ordered a ATT Fuze today. Not to upset ppl but, got a great deal, $199 and free shipping. Now it's just the wait and finding cabs and ROM's.
Alemaker
199 isn't the best deal today!
As a NEW AT&T customer letstalk is giving them away for free. Didn't work for me since I am for over 12 years a customer but perhaps interesting to know for people coming from verizon or t-mobile.

I have a question about possible trade - Tilt2 for Touch HD?

Would anyone trade a Touch HD for a Tilt 2?
I'm not looking for a trade, just wondering.
Thanks

If someone offered a Tilt2 for a Touch HD it would be his or her dream come true.
There is nothing on the Touch HD that is better than the Tilt2...
The only thing that the Touch HD has compared to the Tilt2 is the damn 3.5 mm headphone jack. Are you serious about the trade? Cause your question doesn't make sense.
So of course someone would trade (give) his Touch HD for a Tilt2.
Is your sentence wrong? Because if it is then this would seem to be a more plausible question: Would anyone trade his Tilt2 for my Touch HD?
The answer would be hell no. Unless the Tilt2 was heavily used, full of scratches and has hardware/software issues, no one will want to exchange it for a Touch HD.
Well I know only diff is that the Tilt gets Att 3G, the button QWERTY, and doesn't have a 3.5mm.
I really like listening to music and I use my phone as an Mp3 player because I dont want to carry a phone and a Zune.
I want the 3.5mm headset jack and don't mind the lack of a keyboard. I was just wondering If I did get the Tilt2 if It would be crazy to try to trade it for a Touch HD.
Thing is I'd have to get a dataplan to get the Tilt 2 to trade for the HD and then I'd have a touch HD that can't use the dataplan I'd now have.
I already have the Incite which has WinMo 6.5 and a 3.5mm, So I guess I'd still use the dataplan when I have my sim in the Incite.
So The question is do I want to stick with the Incite and it's Wifi
or
Do I get a dataplan and a tilt 2 that I trade for a Touch HD and only use the dataplan when the Sim is in the Incite.
Or I do as above but give the dataplan to my brother's phone and Just have a Incite and a Touch HD both with just Wifi.
Too bad I cant get the HD2... XD Because while it's hard to decide how badly I want the Touch HD over the Incite, the only real difference is that the Touch HD has a bigger screen.
If I had the choice to get the HD2 over the Incite it'd be a no brainer. The HD has the Snapdragon, more RAM, more internal ROM, a bigger screen that is capacitive. I dont even mind it doesn't get at&t 3G.

If you don't flash your phone then you are stuck with a phone with older software. Also, the finger friendly Windows Mobile 6.5.3 is probably not officially supported by HTC on your HTC Touch HD, so you probably will need to flash it on your own.
And trading a Tilt2 for that would be freaking crazy.
I'd like you to know that the HTC Touch Pro2 has the one of the best keyboard around, I mean it's better than any blackberry, better than my Nokia E90, better than any android phone so far, and better than a touch screen keyboard, of course better than Palm, etc!!!!!!!!
If anything, trade it for a Nokia N900. Though, not windows mobile, it's processor is faster than the HTC Touch HD, meaning less likely to have skippy music or delay during music playback. Furtheremore, the N900 speaker is just as good as the N95, and most people who know about phones can verify that the N95 speakers are not only very loud, but very high sound quality, and you get two speakers like on a laptop. And it has a 3.5 mm headphone jack.
The Tilt2 also has tilting screen, so you can watch videos while working on a table, which is kinda geeky but whatever.
Tilt2 also requires a data plan if you get it on ATT. So why would you pay for data plan just to use a phone that doesn't support the data plan. Isn't that stupid? And if you are going to buy a Tilt2 on eBay or something, just buy a Touch HD so you don't go through with the trade.

The HTC Touch HD does not have a snapdragon, has less RAM, and less ROM, and it is resistive.
The HTC Touch HD2 has a snapdragon, more RAM, and more ROM, and it is capacitive.
Thanks for confusing me. Next time, pay attention to the series number, and report the right number, or you will get different answers.
For the Touch HD2 yeah the swap seems plausible, if you do it now, you might get a swap, but I suggest keeping your Tilt2 unopened and 100% brand new. Do not peel any stickers or anything. If you have to get your hands on it use latex gloves, but do not peel the sticker on screen.
Next, you have to swap it with someone with a used HD2 who really abhors his HD2. But soon, the HD2 for T-Mobile will come out, and it will be impossible for you to find someone to swap an HD2 because it has become more valuable for the Americans, and they wouldn't want to swap you. Why? Well because the ones with the European Touch HD2 are going to get the American version for T-Mobile. So right now there will be people more willing to trade it for a brand new Tilt2.
Or, if you are smart, just go month to month with ATT until the T-Mobile HD2 comes out. I heard that month to month on ATT doesn't charge you more, it just means you can cancel anytime or renew a contract for a brand new phone.
But when the T-Mobile HD2 comes out, transfer your phone number to T-Mobile and sign a contract with T-Mobile for an HD2 with a data plan that you actually use.
BTW...I think that swapping it will be very hard, and what you are doing is crazy, and I knew it when you said that you "weren't looking for a trade" you were actually looking for a trade, cause obviously if someone wanted to trade you would trade.

Sorry about that, it was a typo, the HD you bolded I meant to type HD2.
The point of this thread was just to find out if I got the Tilt 2 if I could trade it for a Touch HD because I really want that 3.5mm. Are you considering switching to T-Mobile for the upcoming HD2?
well I'm currently on my dad's family plan so I'm not sure, plus I dont know how much the HD2 will cost even with new contract so I'm not too sure about that.
The problems with getting a contract with T-mobile is that Calls between my family and my best friend and I wouldn't be free. Plus I'd have to get the T-mobile dataplan which I dont really want especially because it's not as good at at&t's

I wouldn´t trade my Rhodium for a Blackstone
So people would trade a HD2 (Leo) for the Tilt2 (Rhodium)?

Well the HTC Leo costs 800 dollars.
The ATT Tilt2 costs 500 dollars.
The HTC Blackstone costs 500 dollars and if you are lucky may cost around 300-400 dollars.
Tilt2 trade for Blackstone is a guarantee.
HTC Leo trade for a Tilt2 is almost impossible.
Not me, as hardware keyboard is a must.
Even if Leo has better specs...I prefer Rhodium!
I'd be willing to get and trade a tilt2 for a HD2... question is should I get the Tilt 2 and try?

You can try. It's not that I think it's a bad idea what you are doing, but it's that it's really hard. I wouldn't do it because the HD2 is a league higher than the Tilt2, and it's hard to get someone to trade his HD2 for the Tilt2.
to me the HD screen and integrated buttons are much more appealing while the Tilt 2 is really just the next generation of a long line of HTC phones. Now that the HD2 is out, I think the Tilt 2 has lost some luster and this wouldn't be such a one sided trade anymore. I may even consider it, lol.

HTC Evo

Who will be switching from Touch Pro 2 to HTC Evo?
Evo available at Sprint for $299.99 - $100 MIR = $199.99 + Tax on JUNE 4
Be ready 'cause there will be a line.
No way and not for an extra 10 a month for 4g that isnt that much of any upgrade
no keyboard = no EVO for me
EVO Pro....no THERES a tasty thought
No 4G where I live...so not for me either!l
Sorry going over to the evo side looks but will probably be back
We'll see
Just bought one from someone who went to Google I/O. Comes with 30 days free service. I'll try it out, and if I like it, I'll set it up on my main number and sell the TP2. If not, I'll sell the EVO.

Got my $50 preorder first day it was available. I was drooling over the HD2 until it was announced it was coming to T-Mobile..... this is the chance to get a very similar phone with a better operating system (AND FOR SPRINT!!!)
I don't know how anyone would turn away from this phone....even if you are only in a 3G area.... show if off to everyone you know that has an iPhone and watch their jaws drop!
BTW, who in their right mind would pay $30 to tether when the phone has been rooted before it started shipping.....(?)

Nope, just using an Corporate Employee Plan with Everything Data wireless plan. I have 3 lines that split 1500 anytime mins, unlimted text/data/gps/nav, and AnyMobile Anytime for $120/mo
On the "iPhone" bit, the people I know that have those POS's are so dense they think the TP2 is worse BECAUSE it has a qwerty keyboard.... HA HA HA
No bluetooth dialing so I'm staying with the TP2
I upgraded from the original touch to the HTC Hero for about 2 hours. First time I tried to voice dial in the car I nearly wrecked. Went straight to the sprint store and traded it in on the TP2. Even though sprint says you can try any phone for 30 days they neglect to tell you about the $35 restock fee. (Boo sprint) I've fallen in love with the device. It wasn't immediate love but after the upgrade to 6.5, it's as close to perfect as I've ever seen. I can't believe Google in all its infinite wisdom would leave such an important tool off the latest release.

Froyo 2.2 does include bluetooth dialing, and voice activated text messages (That supposedly works very good..... we will see). Any N1, Droid, or EVO users should get the OTA update within a few months of this coming out. Those creative enough can get it much quicker if you know how.
I look at it this way: I have done nothing but gone up with windows mobile phone - HTC Titan, HTC Mogul, HTC TouchPro, HTC TouchPro2.... the software gets a little better with every revision, but never really gets me too excited about what it is capable of. (At least until MaxSense is released) And even that is a USER driven addon. The first time I played with Eclair on my TP2, I knew it was time for a change. I download the Android SDK and the Froyo emulator...........it is like the first time using and actually understanding Linux........ actually, it's EXACTLY the same. With the exception that with the EVO, you will also have a huge 4.3" screen, front facing camera, and one of the fastest processors available in a mobile phone. And this is for $150 less that I paid for the TP2 (Bought in middle on contract - so picked it up on ebay new for $400 just after it came out) vs. $250 for the EVO after the rebate.
i don't get why so people are so high strung on thinking that android is better than wm from my experience with the android builds it seems to not be much different or anymore or less capable. however because its not Windows , the fact that i just got s free tp2 and that i don't have 4G coverage here in my area (chicago suburbs) i will have to pass on the evo untill someone manages to port wm to it and/or when 4G is available in my area.
I love my TP2, but I liked more the Imagio's sleek design, no slide-out keyboard though... To me, the Evo looks like the Imagio, but running Android, not my choice of OS but it's "ok".. +1 to have a WM "Evo"

To be honest, I would have loved the HD2 had it come to sprint. When I heard it was going to Tmobile I felt a lot like I might as well hang onto the TP2......When I saw the specs for the EVO i litterally thought " wow, its an HD2 with some extra stuff..... but it runs android." This is where I started playing with android on the TP2, started asking people I knew that had an android phone what they thought about it, went to the cell phone stores and played with all the phone ( thats a bad habit anyway :->) I don't want to come out rash and say that this OS is better than a WM Phone..... it is just different. It has a lot of useful features, different UI customizations, and most obviously - different from what I have been using for quite a while now. Is the EVO the best phone ever made??? It might be now.... but I doubt it....
Is it the best phone Sprint has to offer? NO DOUBT, YES IT IS!
I am sure the new iPhone will get everyones attention, and verizon will be stepping up it's LTE towards the end of the year.... we will probably see at least 4-5 MUCH better phones than the EVO before the end of the year. But this is as good as it gets for sprint for at least the next 6 months, maybe even a year.
Yeah, HD2 is very very nice. Just not CDMA
The WM preference is personal, since I program .net and I can write my own apps. Is there a .net android compiler out there? I don't know..but would be nice to know of..
Can't say that I know of one..... - as .net is MS's baby.....
Off topic: This seems absolutely ludacris to me, and would be considered "illegal" due to the fact that the phones are not licensed as such, but has anyone ever tried to port Windows Mobile to an Android handset?
Not that I would have much interest, but it seems as though I have read here and on other forums that if a user could dual-boot into WM and Android (ie GenY Dual Boot designed for WM Phones) they would be more inclined to at least give android a shot. (?)
Figured it was worth throwing out there.
It's HTC's lil secrets (booting addys and hardware drivers) they can if they wanted to, but do they want to?
Here is a good one, same processor, obviously same of a lot of stuff that compose the devices, can an HD2 rom be tested on an EVO? hmmmm

week one

1st off i have been using WM since WM2003 on the MPX220 then went to the apache then touch pro and really like WM. but I figured the awsome hardware for the android phones would be worth checking out as i dont see anything for WM coming in the near future. let the Captivate testing begin.
rooted and figured out how to get my contacts off outlook to google account.
got wifi tether. but as i have been comparing this phone to the iphone 4 jailbroke. i feel i am sadly going to change my alegance from WM to android to Apple OS =(

That seems very uncalled for.
I am coming from the iphone and I'm starting to agree with the OP. If it wasn't for the terrible customer service experiences I've had with apple, I would be considering moving to the iphone 4 too. If samsung doesn't fix the stalling and gps issues soon, I'm not sure what I'll do.

im giving this phone and androinfd another week to mess with and compare
I was a huge iPhone fanboi and have LOVED my iphone 3Gs and iPad, but I must say with the problems with the iPhone4, I decided to get the Captivate instead and can't be happier. The phone is great out of the box, but you know what, I LOVE tinkering with stuff (I am an IT Manager for a major clothing manufacturer) and playing with computers is my job, and I have to say I LOVE the freedom and ability to be able to do what I want to with this phone and make it look and act like anything.
I just remembered why I'm not going back to the iphone. Dropped calls. I haven't had any since getting rid of my iphone until just now . A call dropped between my captivate and friend's iphone 4. I love not dropping every third call like I used to. People love to make fun of att for their "crappy network", but I've never had a problem with them except when I owned an iphone.

are you refering to the dropped calls due to holding the phone with out a case? because i havent had a dropped call on it so just curious.
I'm referring to iphones having very high dropped call rates in general.
As far as the lack of apps goes id be a little patient. Android is growing fast, and apple has had their app store quite a bit longer and has had a larger dev base in the past. Before long enough devs will be on board android to equalize.
I must say that if the ip4 remains att exclusive apple ia going to get steamrolled in the next year or so just by the sheet weight in numbers

HSUPA vs HSDPA v 3G etc etc... The captivate is capable as the radio supports it, but the stock rom got a chop somewhere in the line. We (XDA) are working on fixing that easily.
There is something wrong with your captivate if you are getting such poor download speeds. I didn't test upload speeds but I just got 946kbps down with two bats of coverage.
Hsupa doesn't affect download speeds.

[Q] how is it, Mytouch 4g owners? tell me please. :)

Hey guys!!!
I'm just wondering what you all think of the mytouch. I played with the g2, and I like it. I like the keyboard, and the screen looks better to me IMO.
However, with gingerbread proally coming out soon (PROBABLY) , that'll slow updates, for the MT right, because of mySense?
I LOVE THE MT4G. LOVELOVE.
I use facebook a lot
I text a lot
I like more customization
i'll probably root, overclock, and flash a custom rom when a lot of them become available.
mySense seems allright!
i consider myself an intermediate to advanced smartphone junky.
What phone should I get, and how do you like it?
I'm also worried that it's been a few months since the g2 came out, and its not even at the front at my TMO store anymore. I don't want to sign a contract and want another one before 3 months.
but the mt4g is! ideally, i wish they would add that g2 keyboard to the mytouch 4g and keep that z-hinge, it seems cool to me.
thanks!
so, should i get it? hows your experiences!? thanks.
its really important, i need a new phone before monday .
cmon guys please. 12 views, noone replies?
i just am deciding if i like mysense, and if its worth losing that amazing keyboard the g2 has. though the screen is only .1 inch bigger, the mytouch screen seems way bigger! i like it in my hand.
Well I have no experience with the MT4G yet as I am gonna get it today. My first decision was to get the G2 but after doing countless research (youtube reviews!) and comparisons of the two, I fell in love with the myTouch over the G2. The hard keyboard of the G2 doesn't really matter to me, the onscreen keyboard is good if not better with Swype. I prefer vanilla android over other UIs but mySense seems to have a lot of interesting tweaks and features that I might enjoy having. If we don't like it then there's rooting of course as I'm sure there will be plenty of roms available soon. The updates are the only thing that have me a bit worried but like I said, rooting the phone might ease the pain of dragging updates by flashing 2.3 roms if available.
Not sure if this might help but its worth noting i think.
Good luck on choosing your next phone!
I've had both the G2 & the MT4G and I'm a lot happier with the MT4G.
The G2 seemed too bricky for my tastes and I really didn't use the hard keyboard to compensate. MySense is not as good as full fledged sense but it's not a huge difference.
I know not too long after gingerbread comes out we'll probably have a Rom to flash it on our phones so updates don't worry me so much.
I think it really comes down to if you want a hard keyboard or a front facing camera. I chose the front facing camera & less bulkiness

maybe because this is the 15th "how do you like your mytouch" "is it better then the g2" thread.
people need to learn how to read before they start typing
I have had the G2 and now the MT4G and although the G2 is a very very good phone I must say that I believe the MT4G is the best all around phone I have ever owned, I also have a Vibrant and a Nexus One at this time but I am going to sell the Nexus One. All of these are Great phones IMO but the G2(hinge issues, connection issues, radio issues)and the Nexus One( touch screen issues at times, signal issues) and the Vibrant(virtually no GPS until just a short time ago, lags etc.signal issues) do not seem to compare with the all stability of the MT4G of which the only issue I have found was a slight glitch in MMS messaging which is now covered. All of this is obviously just my opinions but if I had to go with just 1 phone right now it would be the MT4G

BOO-YA.
I gave up my mint N1 for the MT4G. I know there aren't many ROM's for it yet, and God knows how long it will take to get Amon_RA, but it took a good month before there were ROM's to flash for the N1. With Android 2.3 so close to being released it's just a matter of time before we get a vanilla gingerbread ROM for this device.
The Mytouch is a great handset but after using it for a couple of days I'm not that impressed....I will be selling or trading mine soon...

I just got mine hours ago and am loving it. I got it because I've always wanted a Sense device, and the hardware is second to none (for now)...2nd gen Snapdragon and an outstanding 768MB RAM!

I'm with ya... Came over from an Evo and just can't get used to the hard keys at the bottom instead of the touch-keys. Also experiencing some automatic re-boots (3 in three days) and some text sending problems (I already turned of the Teklia). If the Evo had been a GSM phone, I would have brought it to TMO (sprint really sucks in this town). I'm looking for a GSM Evo-clone! My only other choice will be ATT in about a month when they come to town, but they don't have any decent androids yet (sorry, the samsung captivate just doesn't do it for me... the touch screen is terrible)

Nexus One owner who absolutely loves the My Touch 4G. Will always keep the N1 for the almost instant upgrades but the hardware on this My Touch is 2nd to none. This phone has it all and it all works. I'm getting use to this non vanilla Android for lack of a better word but using Launcher Pro this thing is dynamite. Best phone to date besides the Nexus One of course. Seriously the My Touch 4G is probably the best phone I have ever owned. The Nexus One will always be my go to phone, I'm just always drawned to that thing.
PS
The HSPA+ was just flipped on in my town. Live in a suburb outside Boston and getting between 3.5 to 5.5 Mbps on download and 1.5 on upload. I was usually getting around 900-950 kbps on the download. What a major diifference and these speeds are in my town and most surrounding towns. T-Mobile is killing this area with their great network. I am in freaken heaven. Thank You T-Mobile.
Those speeds are on my Nexus One. My Touch 4G is higher.
I had the EVO for almost a month (trial period). While I agree the bigger screen is great, it seems a little more washed out, maybe due to the fact that the same resolution is now scretched to accomedate a 4.3'' screen. The capacitive buttons on the bottom was a wash for me. I find myself accidently hitting them sometimes. I much prefer the physical keys. Battery life on the MT4G is much better. I could never manage to squeeze 10 hours from the EVO (moderate use). So, I chose the MT4G over the EVO. The only thing I did like about the EVO was the original SENSEUI on it, Tmobile's version is a little sloppy. Just my experience and opinion.
Your device is clearly defective, get a warranty exchange. That, or your lying.

LOVE the hardware, but don't like Sense. Waiting for CM6 to come out. You could always pick up a used Nexus or Vibrant for $300 or so. Or buy this one from T-mo for $450 ish without contract and then trade up later if you really want...
