USB Key to Smartphone - General Questions and Answers

I was tinkering around the other day and spliced some wires which connected a USB Key directly to my phone. I googled and searched everywhere, but decided to ask here becuase this is the best place. Is there any programming out there that can connnect a USB key directly to a phone for usage? I am trying to figure out a way to do it. I have begun to start to software hack it, but have got no where so far. I'm new at this so it will be a long process. Thanks.

K. I tried that program, and I can't even get a USB mouse to work. What's the easiest way to learn how to create programs? There is so much out there, I'm all confused. Thanks.

Usb Host?

I am currently trying to get usb host functions to work on my pro (if it is even possible). I am wondering if anyone has some info about this that would point me in the right direction. I found a thread on this board from a few months ago about how to make the usb cable needed. I was specifically wondering if anyone has the drivers and other files needed to make this work. Ultimately I would like to hook my pro to an external touchscreen to create a carputer type setup.
Topic was discussed before - afair there is no such function on TP because of lack of power - with USB Host you need to provide power for device connected to TP.

What about using an external source of power like a usb hub?
i dont believe it's just a power issue
it's been up many many many times the last years
with pretty much all htc devices
if you got it working you'd be the first ever who made it work
on any HTC wm device apart from Athena

How 'bout using a Carputer with touchscreen, and a proggie like EveryWan ??
It may not be a solution for you, but the RedFly adds USB host functionality to the phone paired with it and it works nicely with Touch Pro.

not possible...atleast not atm

So does redfly have usb ports? If it does this might be the solution I was looking for. If it is possible to remove the keyboard or move it out of the way and put the screen in the dash I could use something like this. I like that it uses bluetooth which means less wires to mess around with.
I don't want to give up on usb host on my pro yet though. I have read some people saying it may be possible, I even read on a message board someone saying he got it to work with a different htc phone (I don't recall which phone it was). I have also read some people saying it isn't possible.
The pro is the first smartphone I have ever owned (except for the palm centro I had for 3 weeks). I am new to windows mobile phones and am trying to figure out if people actually looked into it and say it isn't possible or just say it isn't possible without trying it. I am not claiming that it is or isn't possible I am just looking for information about it.

USB Failure?

Hi guys,
New to this forum, and I'm looking for some help. Bought a used E650 from eBay, and it's all good bar 2 things - The ROM version is now outdated, and the USB port does not work when I try to use ActiveSync/Windows Mobile Device Centre with it Not too familiar with SmartPhones, but I'm hoping to do some C# deving on this handset, so any help would be appreciated.

Does the USB port on your PC work with other devices?
Can you flash from an sd card like the himalaya?
And if you fix it you can get an up to date update from the orange website!

I'm not too clued up on HTC phones or Smartphones in general, but I'll have a look to see if I can do just that. It's only updating the phone that I want to use it for tbh =/

So that port works. What about the cable. Have you got any other mini usb devices you could try and plug in?
Just thought you should narrow it down and make sure its the phone, and not the cable/port/something else...
When you say the port doesn't work, what does it do? Do you get the new hardware sound when you plug it in?

Just to clarify (And no offence) I'm almost done my HND in Computer Networking, and I've been repairing computers and servers since about 14. It is the phone which is faulty =/ I really wish it was the cable though. I have tried everything, it is definately the phone.
I have contacted the eBay seller, and he's willing to swap the handset for another, but tbh if I could simply update the ROM with a newer Stock ROM I'd be happy without the USB port.
Fair enough. Was just trying to help. Good luck with the replacement. Better off that way anyway, its a ***** not being able to transfer files with USB.
I doubt it that the device has a defective electronic component. Most probably the wiggling of the USB when attaching/detaching the cable has over time broken the soldering on the PBA. But first control the socket for dirt or bended or incomplete contacts.
If you are not a noob what delicate stuff is concerned, disassemble the device and re-solder all contacts of the USB socket.

Can connect ps3 to my laptop screen ?

I dunno whether this is the right place to ask about the ps3 and lap.. So i just want to ask apology if I'm on a wrong section. Okay let me get into my question..
Is it possible to connect ps3(ie,play station 3 to my lap screen). From past i play games connecting to my TV, but nowadays mom started watching many drama serial on it. So i would like to buy a new TV but recently i was thinking whether i can connect it to my laptop. So please mind answering. Thank you

Normally laptops have VGA and HDMI out ports that both are "out signalling" ports. There's no way to get image signals in the laptops except for USB that is useless in this case
You should probably get your own Plasma, and plasmas are better in lightning
ps3
Sasan_blue is right about there being no way to use the vga port, but you should look at this. http://howto.cnet.com/8301-11310_39-20067551-285/how-to-connect-your-computer-to-your-ps3/
If I understand your question correctly, your short answer is yes.
The long answer is that you'd have to pull the LCD out of the Laptop, and figure out the pinouts on the LCD screen and an HDMI wire as a PS3 utilizes it. So it's not easy, and you're better off doing it with a spare computer, NOT a laptop you're using.
Definitely can be done if you're brave enough and know how to search for things; this bloke's done it before with a Wii.

A new kind of brick

I have a SCH-I915 (Verizon) which is not recognized by any machine that it gets plugged into. There's no unknown device, no beep of a usb connection, it does beep like a charger has been connected (and gets the red x on the battery icon, indicating the amperage is insufficient), but the PC doesn't recognize there's an interactive device on the other end. I have spent 3 days combing the forums. I can assure everyone, it is NOT a driver issue. For one thing, the same laptop that flashed the wrong firmware and unlocked the bootloader is among those who can't see it. It also isn't visible to the best buy samsung rep or he'd have flashed it for me. I've also used anycut to manually select mass storage or samsung kies. Neither work. After reading many, many MANY posts on devices not being recognized, it seemed to me the ultimate fix for most of the people with these symptoms was a new cable. I just bought a cable and it's the same. The original does me no good, neither does the new one (which is an insignia from best buy). The maddening thng is, it was working FINE (apart from being unusable...but it was able to be connected to any way you like) just a few days ago. It was the factory reset from within the 4.1.2 OS that seems to have changed something. My idea (which may be entirely off base, since I don't actually know the USB protocols is, the tablet gets plugged in and either is supposed to say "I'm here" or the PC asks "who are you?" After that would be steps on establishing what device it is, etc... I think this initial handshake is what's broken. The PC thinks it's got a usb fan or whatever, the tablet thinks it's connected to a crappy charger.
So I've got a couple questions
1) Do they make charging cables which are distinct from the data transfer cables?
2) Has anyone used one of these insignia cables? Was it fine for you?
3) Is there any other nuclear option I can deploy myself? I don't have much faith in those best buy guys. (On a side note, I was allowed to use the guy's laptop to try and get it to work and if I had had a thumb drive, I'd have all the cool imaging software they have...but it was not to be.)
Does it shows up when connected in recovery or download mode?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Premium HD app
No it doesn't
No matter the computer I'm attaching to, nor whether it's in download, recovery, or fully up, the connection appears to only be seen by one side.

Honor 8 won't connect to pc nor quick charge

So, my phone won't quick charge, nor will it connect to pc. Keep getting the divice not recognized and has malfunctioned. Stock everything, cause I can't unlock the bootloader to flash it. 7.0 android. Things I've tried, brand new cables, the charging block is the one that came with the phone. 3 different pcs, windows 7 to 10. USB Debugging, the secret enter code in dialer to the menu to enable hisense or whatever USB setting, enabling it USB to hisense in advanced (its not hisense its something, can't remember its the oem exe) various drivers and Android drivers.. I've tried it all almost. It's not beyond me to take the phone down and replace the port but I'd rather not if it's a common correctable issue. I reset this phone twice to see if a reset would fix it.. Nothing. Anyone else with the issue or something like it? Just wanna root this thing.. This is a "new to me" phone so probably why they sold it if it's the actual port jacked up, it's not a big big deal as my g3 was overheating and dying and I got this for $80.. Figure I came out on top cause the USB c boards are cheap enough. But I hate the glued together stuff cause you never get it exact when throwing it together or at least I don't. Big hands. So... Here is to hoping it's software. Phone works 100% other than that I like it.
Yeah, I know this. Quick charge won't work on the block. I'm not concerned with quick charge on my pc.. I'm concerned with connecting to my pc period. I can't connect at all. The bootloader is locked because I can't connect to pc to unlock it. So to recap. Quick charge will not work on the block at all so I lack being able to quick charge, and I cannot connect to a pc via USB. I have tried all the fixes I can think of in my original post with no success unless I missed something?
I'm thinking I'm gunna have to tear this phone apart and replace the dang port... Lol. Too easy.
