TF2D Background Image Change - General Questions and Answers

Hi everyone,
I'd like to make a TF2D theme where the background would change according to preset dates. Somewhere in the TF2D the program already changes the AM PM image by using the time. Can anyone think of a way to make this happen by using the date?

no, its not possible unless you wrote an outside program that would update the xml file and reset the program for you. am and pm change the same way the "clock" changes it reads the digit and apply a corresponding picture file, this is written into the program and cannot be changed unless you have the source code, which we do not have and is why we continue to reverse engineer the software.

Thanks for the reply. So I take it that the phone apps have two files for the programmer. One is the source file and then the program file is made from that. Kind of like when I use flash. I have the fla file while the webpage gets the swf file.
Maybe some day we can do this. I thought it would be cool to do a 12 Days of Christmas theme with a new bg for each day.

make Pictures and Videos program shows whatever you want

hello everybody,
i found something very nice and useful that you can make it shows any file you want.
and that done by this registry:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Pictures\Camera\OEM]
"SupportedVideoFormat"="*.wma;*.midi;*.wav;*.rm;*.wmv;*.ram;*.ra;*.mp3;*.mp4;*.avi;*.3gp;"
i added real one files to pictures and vedios w/o any problem, the only thing you have to do it, just add *.xxx; to that registry. (.xxx the extension of the file)
any new foundation i will add it

How to change wait load cursors?

Does anyone know what file contains the wait/load cursor animation? Some say it's a .dll file while others say it's this file called gwes.exe.040C.mui.....
reason i asked is coz in the older EnergyROM builds, or more specifically the build 21921 released on July 14th 2009, that rom has this purple wait load animation cursor and i like it a lot, but then it got changed to what we have now, a circle with blue dots, and i think it looks ugly.
I've been wanting to change the cursor for a long time but was often busy etc etc, now that it's the holiday i'm finally gonna try and get this done, hopefully.
In case some of u asked, I already PMed Cmxlygo and he told me to get this .dll file from the windows folder, but i don't see it in there. He wouldn't help me at all and won't even share the picture file. I PMed NRG and he hasn't replied in days.
I also tried CMxlygo's pimp packages, all of them in fact, none of them contained it.
And in case if you guys suggest me to use Marshall's cursor packages or w/e (forgot the name), i already tried it but don't like those.
I can't believe NRG didn't put that cursor file in the "Extras" folder on his page, you have .cab files for dialers etc but not that, it's so hard to find and i don't even think anyone has it.....
so ya i plan to try and get it somehow off the older build and put it in my current EnergyROM, but i'm gonna need some help to know what file contains it.....
shellres.192.dll holds the bitmaps of the wait cursor.
Attached ROM Extractor that will get the file.
[TUT] Editing Resources .dll etc
All software needed on thread.
You will also want to install SDKCERTS soft reset phone before you replace the resource "again attached"

HD2 US - Facebook icon overlay on contact picture.

When I sync a contact with my facebook account, it downloads a picture from facebook (if i choose that). This is a great functionality, however, it overlays a facebook icon in the bottom left of the contact picture. Is there any way to remove the facebook icon?
Since Windows\FBContacts has the picture without the icon, it must be sense that adds them. Also, SPB Mobile Shell doesn't have the icon.
I scoured the registry and found basically nothing:
HKLM\Software\HTC\HTCMsgEnhance\SupportFacebookIcon
and
HKLM\Software\HTC\HTCMsgEnhance\UseContactAgent
I thought disabling this would help, but it doesn't.
Also, sorry if this has been posted somewhere, i searched but hits for facebook were too many.
Thanks in advance.
I'm sad to say that this little icon is hidden somewhere within the Sense Code, not in the registry.
It may be possible to remove it, but I am no HTC Sense Developer, though there are plenty of them here.
I'd suggest PM'ing meltwater, in my personal opinion, and be sure to tell him that I directed you to him.
that's uncool. But thanks for the info.
I'll just pm him with a link too this thread.

Zach is right, it is the sense code which overlays the icon, you can see it happening quite often on the facebook tab.
By the way, the pictures are stored \windows\FBContacts, as it happens working with them at the moment. There's two keys which refer to this location, but interested if they would move the location for fb, not had chance to test.
Back to topic, the overlay will occur in many many places in the sense code, and no reg key is checked in the code (at least not in the sections I've seen) so removing would be a pain. HOWEVER...if you find the icon file used, you can replace it with a totally transparent one and that should do it.
Using the manila kitchen and the m9editor you can browse all the xxxxxxxx_manila files and see all the image files (QTC).
3c71439c_manila icon_facebook_indicator.qtc <-my best guess
66c2d17a_manila icon_facebook_indicator.qtc <-my best guess
5cdf5850_manila facebook_icon_small.qtc <-maybe
0c6d0e94_manila icon_holder.qtc appears to be transparent, might work if you replace the fb icon with that (just copy and rename).
It should work in theory. Have fun!
So, here's a simple solution:
1.) Start Menu
2.) File Explorer
3.) Windows
4.) FBContacts
5.) Copy ALL of the pictures
6.) Paste pictures in another location
7.) Manually set the Contact Pics with the recently moved images
The icon will no longer be visible.
[Yes this is a tedious method, and may take some time to set all of the Contact Pics manually, but hey, the Facebook Icon is gone! ]
Thanks to both of you.
However im not going to use method 2, as it takes way too long.
I'm also new to Cooking, since i got my hd2 a few weeks ago.
Is there a FAQ/Newbies thread i could refer to? Or if not do you think you could post up a 5 minute summary of how to do stuff? i can figure things out pretty quickly but i need some guidelines (is the kitchen a PC app? If so , and i export my ROM, i have to flash it, loosing all my contacts etc?)

Have a look through my tutorials may give you a clue.
But you should just be able to replace the files in your windows dir as mentioned (enable your file manager to see system/hidden files). The manila kitchen and the m9editor are the tools I use to look at the files and to find the icons you needed, so hopefully you won't need to do that now.
EDIT: I'm guessing that worked...
Another facebook icon files
I've found another png files in windows directory, which include facebook icons:
FB_Icon_Ph_L.png
FB_Icon_S.png
These files are marked as Read Only and ROM so I can't change or remove them... Using HD2, ROM Elegancia v9.0 WWE

I'm guessing those files are used by the Microsoft facebook application, sense doesn't often refer to png files directly.
The above files are the most likely ones, since surgency didn't ask for more help, I'm guessing they were the files required.

[Q] I really need some help dealing with image files...

So basically what I am doing is fixing some of this application's code(and I assure that the developer of this app allowed free modification). Currently, this app shows pl_starthere.png for certain time, and apparently is stated as an bitmap file. But I wanted to put animated gif file instead of it.
So I changed the animated file's name into pl_starthere.gif, deleted the original png file, and fixed the file name in the smali file into that gif file. However, it showed me stationary image.
The point is, how can I make it animated? I could probably copy and paste the whole code onto this thread if necessary, but I thought this may be enough for code gurus at xda(and really hope it actually is).
Well, thanks for reading. I would really appreciate any kind of help.
I'm still new to Android myself but from my experience with Windows I know that the program being used to display the image has to be coded to be able to display animated images otherwise it treats them as static. Which means code would have to be added to the app for that.

Not anymore, i might have a solution for you
first get the image you want to use as an icon and resize it to be EXACTLY 256x256 and in .ico format
then click run in start menu and type regedit
allow UAC if needed
make backup of registry
if you want to just change the icon to know what it is, go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.apk
if it isnt there, right click on the folder and create new key called .apk
check if the (default) entry is blank, if so, then create a new key in the same place as .apk and call it something.Assoc.APK (not tested)
in the new key, create a key called DefaultIcon, and in that create a REG_EXPAND_SZ and put the full path in quotes of the .ico file
tell me if it doesnt work and include screenshots
Thanks for the reply...whats I actually ended up doing is making an .ico of a droid and basically setting the file extension within windows to use that ico with any apk...thanks for the info above though
