Does Skype have a mobile version that allows video calling?
I cannot tell from Skype's site. If not, is there an alternate
voip service that offers video calling?
Nobody knows about skype mobile having video, or an alternate voip service that allows video calling?
i haven't heard of any 2 way video calling/chat software for pda's but theres qik.com which supports one way video streaming to their site.
Try www.vzochat.com

Not very well.
Tried using vzochat with my fuze, running romeos 1.40.1.
tried ticking the diamond fix, video is nothing but green and purple lines. sometimes pink lines. it doesn't seem to work with either this rom or this device.
If someone knows how to get vzochat working, please post!
As for Skype making video calls... uh.. yeah.. I don't think it does yet, but there is an interesting discussion on the skype forums:

Thanks for the heads up on VZOchat.
I installed it along with the config, and set it to the front webcam and diamond fix. It now works great on my Touch Pro through wifi at least!
Thanks again!
Hey. VZOChat works with my iPAQ 514 without any problems. Thanks!!!

Is video calling for the EVO and sprint gonna work out the box or is the front facing cam there in preperation for future support?
future support
Out the box using Qik
Out of the box future support using Qik. Clear enough for you?
It's going to work when you get it. I'm guessing you'll only be able to video chat with outer Qik users, though.
Any idea if you'll be able to use the foward facing camera as a web cam plugged in to a PC?
Out of the box? Doubt it. If someone programs an app to use it as such? Definitely.
i hear its out of the box with Qik i hope that pc users can video chat with the phone, that would make it very cool.
Will you be able to use video chat over 3g?

Yes you can through qik's site on a pc
phone to phone, desktop to phone...
at the official launch party, dan hesse said during the demo that upon the phones release june 4th, an "upgrade" would be available which would enable using the front facing camera for phone to phone video calls as well as desktop to phone video calls. a new Qik app maybe? not skype w/ verizon's contract...although i have heard people are successfully using the skype beta app floating around, on networks other than verizons!
As I posted on the "Video chat on PC" thread:
I know I'm half awake, so maybe I missed something, but from what I can see, Qik doesn't have a full desktop/PC app. They seem to be very phone centric.
They do have an app called "Qik-in-Touch" that runs on the desktop and will tell you when your friends are broadcasting publicly (or maybe privately to all friends?) but last time I played with it (when it first went beta), it didn't support webcam on the PC. So it was receive-only on the desktop.
It's something, but not a direct one to one video calling/chat. But maybe they've updated it since the last time I played with it, or maybe I just missed some things.

Title says it all, will we be able to do a video call with a pc user who is using a webcam?
Qik allows it, so yes.

I'm assuming private chat, not recorded and posted on my qik page. I can't seem to find much about it, does anyone know where I can find more about it?
yes, new app? w/ Qik...
yes, the official launch they said that "an upgrade" (i believe through Qik, an app maybe?) will enable the phone to utilize phone to phone OR phone to pc video calls..."CALLS"...so it must be the case. i guess they foresaw having to compete w/ skype and verizon in this manner...w/ verizon's upcoming vphone (saygus) offering video conferencing software via android, more options may open up than just offered up front at sprint.
Also remember that the 4th gen iPhone will also have a front facing camera, as well as code in the os that point to iChat intergration.
I can't wait till we have an Android app that works with iChat!
This is an upgrade to the qik app or qik account. I wonder if it will cost. That would sure ruin it.
I'm praying for skype to skype video on the Evo.

actually google bought Global IP Systems, they allow skype, qik and so on to have video calling and chat XD so we will see.
Wonder if Google Talk will be getting video chat on the PC and Android phones.
I my opinion that would be great. If you have a Android phone you have a gmail account so it only make sense that it should be coming.

Your prayers have been answered. Fring now supports video chatting with Skype.

Qik does it, but its an extra $5/month, like the post above fring will make skype video calls, or atleast recieve them for now, i havent seen it making a video call yet.

you can do pc to phone and viceversa it receives and makes calls i have already tested it
dont forget skype is releasing video chat on all android devices this year too
Fring is supposed to do skype with the front camera
Tested it today. Two evos both using fring, worked well on our subpar 3G service around here. I did Skype on PC to Fring (logged into a skype account) on an evo. Worked great all the same. I played with fring on an old windows mobile device, and had problems. Today on my evo, the experience was flawless.

Grab & install Fring from the Market. I've been using it for the past 2 days to video chat EVO > PC. PC users on Skype.
NYC is still 3G only, so its pretty bad, but switch to Wifi And I found the quality rather acceptable.
Just wanna know if yahoo messenger with video or tango works? If yes im getting my tablet today.

The only one I could get to work was yahoo. It would crash if I tried to video call them but if they video called me then it worked great.
Got Y!M to work with video calls, does not view/show webcams tho.
anyone got fring to work? I don't have anyone else to call and their 'test' call had all kinds of static in the audio
in the app store is a program oovoo that allows you to video calls. It also allows the connection between the ooVoo and Skype. on the galaxy tab works and looks very well. how you want to try the call to me. my ooVoo id "zandrzejz. sorry for bad english
just noticed it as well gonna try it now, hopefully this finnally will be the solution to do video chat with mac and a pc

yes, i was wondering. negative market comments of no support for galaxy tab (e.g. also not for front facing camera) and no mention of skype connectivity in market description... i wonder whether the OP every actually tried the app
It's a start
Tried this thinking it was an answer. It is half an answer.
1. It allows and easy switch between front and back camera.
2. It sees the incoming video.
3. It DOES NOT transmit video.
The ClearSeas app WORKS VERY WELL so it can be done - just need to figure out how to make it work.
Also, Yahoo messenger works very well INBOUND on the Galaxy but NOT on outgoing.
We are almost there. Come on Skype
Hello from germany -
is there any hack what implements the skype video call option to HTC ChaCha?
Thanks for your help...
Alex
hey there, I don't think there is a hack. You can try downloading Skype and see if the video call functionality is already working out of the box...
or you can also wait for the Skype to implement the functionality on our phone, if you check the Skype android app page, you can see which phones are already available for video calls.
Try this:

Try the link above you.
it s working normally without set up anything else
I cannot get it to work
Hi. I have a ChaCha running 2.3.5 with S-ON.
I checked the link posted previously, downloaded the app, but still no video settings in Skype settings. I'm sure the phone hardware is ok for video calling, because I can use Tango for video calls, but I will really like to use skype as well. Any help please?
Thanks.
Skype is not working on chacha because it require ARMv7 CPU.
Anyone tried this: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.oovoo
Its cross platform and more importantly free.
Give it a try.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire S using xda premium
It's not compatible with the chacha..
Neither Skype nor Google Talk work with Video chat on the Chacha yet (although there is a "Video for Google Talk" app, but this does not work well.
I was able to install Yahoo Messenger with Video but I did not test it, since none of my friends used Yahoo Messenger and also this as always autostarting - so i deleted it. But I think Yahoo video talk should work.
I really don't understand why Google does not improve Google Talk. I like it more than Skype, but it's not clear why it doesn't even support voice talk on some phones.
I usually use Yahoo!
