PTerminal gone from Market? Anyone have it for me? - G1 Android Development

I Jailbroke my phone last week but had to restore to RC29 then Jailbroke then Updated to Modded RC30 and needed to get PTerminal back on it. Anyone know where I can get it from?

Use Terminal Emulator. It's better

New one under the radar haha. Testing now

I'm shocked they left pterminal in the market for as long as they did. Proves that they don't really screen anything going into it.

Who said it was google that took it off? The developer might have also. (I don't know which it was)

[Android] Motorola Backflip - DON'T BUY, HERE'S WHY!

OK, so I've been using a Kaiser/Tilt with Eclair on it for awhile. I've spent countless hours drooling after the Nexus One. When AT&T finally got the "Backflip" from Motorola, I just couldn't resist. I took the plunge.
I should've known better. I have plenty of AT&T horror stories, and this is the same carrier that wont allow you to tell your Java apps NOT to ask for permission more than once (making Opera mini a PITA but the only usable browser for non-smart-phones).
There is NO option to install applications from untrusted sources. This means anything on your SD card, downloaded from the web or over your wifi at home WILL NOT WORK. Naturally, you also cannot use the "su" command in terminal.
Motoblur is nice I guess, but the uninstallable AT&T paid apps, the limitations of 1.5 firmware (ie: no google navigator, no voice search) and the locked-to-yahoo-search-bar are enough to get me to say NO to any further AT&T abuse.
With the Kaiser's bloatware, they removed/hid apps from you so you wouldn't try to use them and replaced them with their crapware.
AT&T does not know the meaning of "open" and they do not understand Android. You are not buying an Android phone when you buy from AT&T.
You are buying a device LOCKED to a market with a smaller number of applications than the iPhone (I don't use Apple products either ) forced to use a lesser search engine for your most convenient option and subject to losing any application that was once on the market but then removed. You can't install your own apps or even test them on your device. Period.
Also on my first day of using it I got a number of "Force Close" messages including on the built-in applications (ie: Motorola's flavor of the desk clock).
It's decent hardware, it feels pretty zippy to me, but this is exactly why I WONT buy an iPhone.
Screw you, AT&T. I will make sure that everyone I know is properly informed about this crippled device that is nothing like the Android experience is supposed to (expected to!) be.
/endrant phew, going to go breathe for awhile.
EDIT: I will add:
- Set "orientation" on this phone when you tilt it and somehow it gets stuck in one orientation or the other (who knows maybe this one is just me, not seen any other backflips) if you set it back to just when you open/close it it's fine again though
- The desk clock can't be launched manually and is tricky to get to appear trying to get the phone in that perfect angle to display it
- I don't have a separate camera on me right now to show you the menu but to back up with sources:
http://www.pcworld.com/article/1910...n_atandt_not_the_full_android_experience.html
https://supportforums.motorola.com/message/121849
Don't buy this phone. Stay away from AT&T, stay away from Motorola (IMO or at least the motorola backflip).
This is pretty horrible.
I have two questions, though.
1) Can you take a screen cap of the Settings > Applications screen so we can see the lack of Unknown Sources option? That'd really help people see the validity of this issue.
2) I hope you have some kind of 30-day money-back guarantee when buying a handset from AT&T like Sprint offers. Otherwise, ouch =/
I haven't tried to install an apk from astro or anything, but i have pushed a few with ADB which seems to work fine. It kinda sucks, but I really hope that we can figure out root access soon! I don't care for blur, but I like android. Hopefully we don't have to wait to long. Here is an ADB guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=643866
I wonder if Apple suddenly took over AT&T because this kind of behaviour is more common to them
... It's not only AT&T who manages to confuse their customers about an OSS... Don't forget who decided to lock down an open software system boot-loader for everyone *cough*Motorola*cough*
Apple made them an offer they could not refuse!

Someone more familiar than I needs to figure out the proper java system call to enable unknown/untrusted sources and then post on this thread the proper at command to execute it via CLI. You wouldn't even need root to do this.

Assuming the software running on the Backflip is the same software they released the source to on opensource.motorola.com, there may be hope of that. I'll dig into it when I get time.
Wow. I am surprised that this was picked up by Gizmodo. Do we have anyone corroborating this? Doesn't this somehow violate Google's terms of service?

Mine too! Just means to spend the couple extra hundred dollars and get an unlocked unbranded one.
I got the Backflip just because I am moving on from my jailbroken iPhone and I wanted something neat and shiny.
I can say that there is a lot of smack talk here, but give these guys a chance here to root the phone and get some things working on it.
It's been two days since the release and I can already say, that I like the phone a hell of a lot more today then I did on Sunday. I've been able to install untrusted sources using the Droid Explorer, a bit of a pain in the ass, but it's okay, considering that if I want Android, then this is the only way to go for now.
But I have faith in someone out there... Someone will figure this out.
I just hope it's within my 30 day return policy.
EDIT: I Installed "GDE" on my device and I am able to use the Google search widget... So that issue is sort of solved...
This may just be my unit but the A2DP doesn't work right, it starts playing music then begins to fast forward whatever you are watching or listening to. Did a hard reset, no luck. Looks like I already need a replacement lol.

Eh; fail on my part. It's mostly a cosmetic fix. I didn't actually test it, but when you click on it, it changes to "Yahoo".
So my bad on that one.
God, I hate Yahoo. Ever since that stupid ass cowboy did that commercial, it's ate away at my soul...
I don't know why...
To think we were all worried about how Verizon was going to cripple android only to have ATT do it instead. At first I was amazed and then I realized that any android phone would have outshown their prized phone...oh well one more reason to love being on T-Mobile. ;-)
I played with a Backflip. My god it's a horrid phone. And yeah, Android is completely locked down, with no way to delete those AT&T apps and no installing off-Market Android Apps out of the box.
I was going to wait to see what AT&T was going to bring to the table, but I'm not holding my breath.
Btw, I noticed that AT&T trained to sell the Backflip pretty hard. Like, seriously, I was looking at phones today, and every other word out of the rep's mouth was that I should buy the Backflip. Thankfully I'm more informed than that. I walked out with an iPhone instead. (Don't grill me, I use a Touch Pro2, I just needed a good phone for my work line >_<)
Help i ****ed up my phone
So i just rooted my g1 to get the nexus one features to it and now all it is doing is foreclosing instead of going to the home screen if anyone can help can you please email me at [email protected] thank you

I really do think though that this is going to end up to be a decent phone.
I know I am a little pro for that comment, just because I bought one. But lets look at every phone that ever comes out. There is always some sort of challenge that we have to overcome.
And; with all the threads I've been reading about this; it looks like it was BOTH AT&T and Motorola that are to blame for locking this phone down. ATT cause they don't want us to install from anything but an "App Store" and Motorola because they don't want their devices used for what "there were not intended to be used for," is the wording I've seen floating around the internet.
But in all seriousness. I am coming from an iPhone 3GS which I had jailbroken. So I am coming from a phone that I had everything and anything on to this, and I am, overall, happy with it. Although it's only been 5 days, I can say I don't think I'll change my mind in the next 25 days.
But that's just my two-cents.

Sprint TV 2.1 ROM's

I have searched and only found the posts in separate threads talking about the loss of Sprint TV, and most have not been addressed within the threads. I had Damage 2.1 ROM installed and lost Sprint TV after nearly a week. States I need to be a Sprint Customer to use this app.
I switched to the Fresh 2b ROM last night and had Sprint TV working. This morning I get the same message I am not a Sprint Customer.
I have updated the Build.prop file to show the 310120 and Sprint thinking this might help. Just curious if anyone out there with more knowledge than me has a fix for this. As I stated in a thread post, the TV on the phone is a great kid distraction at times when I need it. That and I like having everything I am paying for working.
Thanks
Interesting, I was thinking about flashing my ROM to one of the custom 2.X roms, however if this is the case I may just wait a while. Although I don't use Sprint TV alot, jniiya is right, it is a good kid distraction to have on your phone... Then again TV turns kids in to zombies.
I can run Sprint TV just find using damgeless, and I'm able to stream with no problem. I did have to restart my phone after I installed it though.
JUST USE FRESH'S PRE KITCHEN TO FLASH IT I did it on damageless rom with no probs whatsoever

It's not a problem of getting on the phone. I have had it installed from day one with both ROMs. It works for a while, but then it gives me the error of you need to be a Sprint Customer to use this app.
I am thinking since these builds are based off the Eris it is sending some type of info back to the Sprint servers show it as a Verizon phone. I just can't figure out what it is since I have changed the build.prop file, and I am not familiar enough with these systems/codes to dig around and think of another place it would be sending back info as if it were Verizon.
This is not like a deal breaker with me in anyway. Just trying to figure it out for the future.
Thanks for reading the post.

Exact same problem here. It works for a while, then I get that error message. If I uninstall and reinstall Sprint TV (pick your favorite method), it works for a while again, but after minutes, hours, or a day (no noticeable pattern) I get that error message.
I've posted on it in several threads about this topic hoping to find a fix. People have told me to edit my build.prop file. I keep trying, but I'm new to this, and every time I try to add the lines below I have problems. The phone freezes during boot up, and I end up having to do a nandroid restore.
ro.cdma.home.operator.numeric=310120
ro.cdma.home.operator.alpha=Sprint
Several threads on this forum and others say this (or variations on it) will solve the problem, but it locks my phone up. I've tried with the =, without, with spaces before and after, and at various places within the file. I wonder if I'm doing something really stupid because I don't know exactly what the formatting is supposed to be. If anybody knows of a tutorial on build.prop, I'd be thrilled to use that, but I haven't been able to find one.
Been working fine for me. Running Fresh 2.0b2 since Flipz released it.
Not to hijack, but have you tried the TV.com app? Something like that I think I uninstalled it, but I thought it was actually better than Sprint TV...
Yep, I went back to 1.5 Fresh because of Sprint TV. Sprint just got ESPN and the NCAA tourney should be on. I am crossing my fingers that Sprint releases the update in the next week or so.

You do not have to add the lines just change the values. The lines are already in there.
This fix didn't work for me. It still tells me I need to be a sprint subscriber.

They're not in the build.prop on my phone. It's not like I didn't look for them. I even used the search feature on my editor. The only line I have that contains cdma is:

No problem. I am also using damage 1.0, however, I see references to pancake (and cupcake, bikcmp) in my build.prop file. I was surprised by that. Is that normal? I did do a wipe (wipe data/factory reset) before I installed damage. In fact, I wiped before going from pancake to fresh 2.0 and again before going from fresh 2.0 to damage.
If you can post the build.prop, I'll give it a try and report back.

Sorry for the late post. I just pull it from my phone. Attached is the build.prop from Damage 1.0. Again I do not use SprintTv or have it installed so I do not know if it will fix it. You have to rename the file to build.prop and push it to /system/.
Ok so I'm watching ESPN all day long at work, and I turn it off so I can get ready to leave work.
While on the subway I try to access it and I get the "You must be a Sprint customer to view Sprint TV" or some crap like that. I'm like ok, maybe because I might be roaming on Verizon network its not letting me. So I wait until I have a good signal and try again, same error message.....
I tried restarting phone, disable and re-enable mobile network, and checked to make sure I wasn't roaming. No Luck.
Look for the Tmobile ported one
Has anyone tried it on Darch's rom. It's based off of the legend which is for sprint?

New MyTouch 4G owner

Didn't see a General discussions thread so I hope saying hello in a new thread won't cause pain.
Just got my MyTouch 4G today after returning an HTC HD7 for lack of cell radio reception. My MyTouch is currently on Android 2.2 and am hoping it will automatically update to 2.2.1 (heads-up on the procedure is welcome).
I had a choice between this phone or the G2. I chose this one because of the front camera. Not sure but I believe this MyTouch has a faster CPU than the G2.
It feels good and solid in the hand and the battery door is metal as opposed to the flimsy plastic of the HD7.
And words of wisdom for tweaking and using this nice hardware is appreciated.
Welcome to the club! Don't think you'll be disappointed, and the MT4G at least on par with (I think better than) the G2. You can easily compare the proc specs via a Google/web search...the MT4G has a 2nd gen Snapdragon.
I got my MT4G the day after release, and had the OTA update that evening. Just got an OTA message and let the d/l and update rip. There's a thread or 2 regarding those still awaiting the OTA update, so who knows what the delay is or the logic behind when you'll get it.
Good news is the perma-root was obtained last week and hopefully we'll have new ROMs available soon.
BTW, time to change your avatar pic since you returned that HD7!

It's a good phone and you'll definitely enjoy it.
On the update procedure: Sometime after you make your first phonecall or type *#*#CHECKIN(or 243256)#*#* into the dialpad you will automatically download it and have a popup notification saying you have an update ready to install. You click go, and that's it!
Now there are a bunch of us who haven't received their updates for various different reasons, and we would <3 you long time if you would download the "aLogcat" app from the marketplace and run it while you wait for the update. What this will allow us to do is find the HTML link to Google's servers, so we can manually update. Once you have the update, you can upload the log to this website or send me a PM and we'll make arrangements that way.

By the way, what material property is the screen made of, hopefully Gorilla Glass?

Doesn't look like I will be doing that on my MyTouch. I just read over the thread about it and, even though I had an HD2 with Android and was deep into it and could do a lot with it, directly on the device through apps like SUFSB, I have no clue about adb push/pull and have never been able to understand it because nobody ever truly explained what it is. I've searched Google about it and the resulting discussions are as vague as any other.
From what I gather there is some sorta program you put on the PC and do **** with it from there, but I've put things like adb on my PC and have no clue about what to do with it. I can click some stuff in it and nothing happens. adb shows up in my PC task manager, but doesn't seem to be doing anything beyond just taking up resources.
When I wanted to do something in my HD2 Android build, I would open SUFSB, tap the S to make it red and then copy and paste whatever I needed to, or delete whatever I didn't want. That is the extent of my knowledge.

adb is really (without a deeper technical explanation) an interface to allow you to run commands, etc. from your PC/Mac/Linux box on your phone's OS, as well as push/pull files, and what not. It's part of the Android SDK, and there are various wiki's and how-to's regarding installation, configuration, basic adb commands, etc. I'd not used it before yesterday, and got it d/l'd, installed, and running commands in <30 mins.
HOWEVER, you don't need to use adb to root. Read through the how to root & S-OFF thread in the MT4G General section (or find the video on YouTube) and follow the steps - there are adb and non-adb options. Once you get the 2 required files onto your phone, all you really need is to download the Visionary (r12) and Terminal apps. Terminal is available in the Market, and you can find the Visionary r12 apk online easily. Instead of adb from your computer you can just run the necessary commands directly on your phone using Terminal app.

Don't know exactly what it is, but it appears to be pretty quality and have some scratch resistance.
I read one post on here (forget where) and the poster stated he'd run a key across his screen to show how scratch-resistant it really is (i.e. the key wouldn't scratch the screen).

Thanks for the reply.
I tried to read the Wiki about adb but just scratched my head at what they were saying. It seemed the explanations were aimed at people who are already into computer programming and such. People who already knew all the terminology and lingo of various OSs.
EDIT- Just read this. It is an example of the vagueness of what I have read about adb. This about what s off and s on is.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=839267
After reading that, I can now work for Microsoft and single handedly produce their next OS.

Yep, I'm an IT consultant & former developer, but the people who easily get this are likely Linux developers/gurus.
It's probably a nice to have/know, but you don't need adb or that knowledge to root the MT4G, install ROMs, and whatever other more basic customization you desire to do on this little beast.

You have any idea how to reboot into bootloader like the rooting instructions say? I've followed the instructions and did the terminal emulator way and it said to power down and reboot into something, can't remember, but I believe it was bootloader. However, I held the power button down and chose restart but was not presented with an option for rebooting into bootloader. Nevertheless, it rebooted but root didn't take.
It said to reboot into hboot to see if s is off.
This is really irritating the **** out of me. The root doesn't take and I follow the instruction exactly like they say. The only thing is they don't say how to reboot into hboot. However, I installed QuickBoot and rebooted into bootloader and saw that S was on. I have tried 2 times to make this rooting work and it has failed each time. The root folder is on the root of the sdcard. Visionary is installed and Terminal Emulator is installed. Everything is as it should be but this crap isn't working.
EDIT - I tried the file explorer way and it still failed. I tapped the root.sh file, waited 20 seconds and rebooted into booloader and the S is still on.
First disable "Fast Boot" under Menu > Settings > Applications. Then Power Off the phone. Once its off, hold the power plus volume down button.
Did you already receive the OTA update though? There were problems rooting without.

No update received yet. Not even a hint of it coming. Thinking about taking this phone back also because crap isn't working with it. I'd rather be without than frustrated.
Is there a way to download the update and do it manually rather than wait for some fat slob in some office somewhere to get done eating and ****ting before he sends the update to me?
Eh...nevermind. Phone is going back. The data doesn't work. Can't get it to work either. The H shows up and the arros light up, but I only get a data error message when going to the Market...or anything that requires data.

G Tablet coming tomorrow...would like to get some things set straight. Thanks.

Hey all,
I'm getting my G Tablet tomorrow and I'd just like to get some things clarified.
I know, the first thing some will say is USE SEARCH! Well, I did - and that's actually why I just want to get some things straight before I go down the path of modifying the device software. See, reading it all has managed to confuse me more than help me get a definitive instruction set for forging ahead.
I'm seeing the update "****s on CWM" according to a user...and then a 'fix' for that. Than I see that Gapps causes FCs for some, while it works for others. So...yeah, a little back and forth on what to do and who's instructions to follow.
Alright, so first thing's first....Should I flash the Clockwork Mod that I'm seeing available - 0.8? or is there something else I should consider or that I've missed? or maybe wait for a newer version? Should I even flash CWM if I get the newest (and I WILL be getting the newest) S/W version? Are there any downsides at all to flashing CWM on there in terms of messing with OTA updates, etc?
I read this:
"All the ROMS use a standard firmware updater that can be used by non-technical users. Here is an explanation on how it works:...."
Sooo, does that mean I can live without CWM? If an update doesn't work for some reason, will I be able to fix it or overwrite it somehow if I can't get into the tablet at all from the tablet itself? I read something about going into APX mode and putting things on through Windows, is this an infallible method?
Second of all, I read the FAQ thoroughly (I think and hope) but I'm still not 100% on what Gapps to DL or how to put a working Android Market on there especially with this new S/W update. I've seen how to 'fix' the Market to see missing apps, but not how to actually install it on the G Tablet. I may have missed that post somewhere on here.
I'm also unclear if I should get Gapps or not at all, as I've read that some have FCs on there while others do not - so what's the general consensus in light of this update that was just released as of Dec. 21, 2010?
Ultimately, here is what I'd like from my GTab:
I'd like to run the new official Tapn'Tap released recently first and foremost.
I'd like to have the official/unofficial (w/e) Google Market.
I'd like to run Google Apps (Gtalk, Gmail, etc.).
IF I don't like Tapn'Tap, and this is a worse case scenario situation, as in if I HATE TnT - I'd like to have the option to slap something else on there and I'd like to make sure I don't brick my Tablet. Whether that means storing an original official TnT ROM or whatever.
Point me in the right direction please, especially considering things may have changed as of the new S/W update.
Thanks much and sorry for all the questions. I assure you I used search and I attempted to put it together on my own. It's been a long time since I've modded (G1 was the last time) and I don't do it often. Also, apologies if I posted this in the wrong section....I considered posting it in Dev. section but this one seemed better suited.
Thanks again, XDA rocks.

I don't know how much direction pointing I can do but here goes..
Clockwork mod in my opinion is a necessity. Version 0.8 is the best one for most people because of how it deals with the memory locations. Yes, you can do things without it. The update process is as simple as putting an update.zip file, and a recovery folder with a command file in it on an sdcard and holding the vol + button while hitting power. It is easy. Clockwork has a lot of little features though that make life easier. You can make a complete system backup with it. You can install updates, and new firmware with it. You can completely lock up your tablet and using clockwork and your backup be back in business in about 3-4 minutes. You can load new roms and if you hate them you can go back to your old working stuff in minutes. Yes, there are ways to make one of these tablets work again when they get stuck. I don't think anyone has actually bricked one. Some may think they have, but I doubt it.
Unless you are dead set on wanting the stock TnT interface the easiest way to get what you want is to load one of the roms. Yes, there are ways to get most of it without loading a new rom. Most everyone that has gone the I have to stay stock but want all the mods has eventually just loaded a rom. TnT3.0 is based on the latest stock stuff. It has the market, flash, etc. already in it. VegaN is what I use mostly but they are both stable and fast.
Before you flash something brand new that just came out I would read about it and see what others have to say about issues. It usually only takes about 30 minutes until you can tell if it is going to be good or not.
All of the roms for this tablet have there own little quirks. The stock has gotten better with each update but it still is not as good as the ones I named.
Finally.. This tablet is very easy to play with. It is pretty much unbrickable. Anything you can possibly break one of us has probably already broken before and fixed. There are some people that seem to have problems doing every little thing. Most don't. So I wouldn't let any of it scare you off because none of it is that hard.
With a little bit of searching almost everything you may want it to do can be done. I really love mine, and when I got it almost 2 months ago I hated it...

"Sigh" of relief. Then I'm not too worried. As I said I've dabbled in modifying my G1 and it is mostly cake. But I've just been seeing conflicting posts on whether cwm works with the newest official tnt release or not so I wasn't sure what to do.
Thanks for your advice. And when I said pointers, I meant like this as well as pointing me to any posts I may have missed on how to do whatever. Though I THINK I found most of them.

The new release overwrites clockwork. But it is not hard to put back. Always a good idea to copy the clockwork backups folder to your pc, or somewhere they won't be lost. The custom roms typically leave the recovery image alone and can be installed with or without clockwork by either extracting the zip contents for stock recovery, or installing it as is in clockwork.

I can vouch for that. Erased system, boot, data and cache in preparation for a new ROM. Accidentally rebooted and couldn't get into recovery. Booted it into APX mode, flashed stock and was on my way.
I would just run ZRoot, then upload the TnTLite 3.0 recovery and update.zip and then do the recovery mode process. You should have a microsd handy just in case it doesn't work, but so far I haven't needed that.
This tablet is much easier to work with and very forgiving since VS never took the time to lock down the bootloader etc like Motorola did with my Droid X. You really shouldn't fear changing files out etc, provided you're getting a ROM from one of the people providing them here. If you can press and hold two buttons at once, you can make your gTab an awesome little tablet. It benchmarks about 1000 points higher than my Droid X on quadrant. Can't wait to see what these guys can do with Gingerbread.

It is also not hard to alter the update so that it does not overwrite clockwork.
Open update.zip
Find updater-script, Open in notepad++
Remove the line that references recovery.img
Flash update

The very first time I rooted, I used ZRoot and installed 2.4.0. I didn't change anything and used the exact same process of simply copying over the 3.0.0 files over to the root directory of the internal memory and did the recovery procedure (vol+ and pwr keys). It worked like a charm.

My device hasn't come yet (damn you FedEx!) but I'm eagerly awaiting it.
My plan:
Unbox, start it....do a factory reset from the getgo if it has enough juice.
Set it back up. Charge it to full. If whatever comes on it is as unbearable as I've seen in on Youtube - start modifications.
Will CWM install on it AFTER I do the update if it's available to me? I've seen that the update messes with it if it's already there - but noone's mentioned putting it on there after the fact. I may just go that route for simplicity sake.
Thanks for this!, and thank you all for chiming in with your experience. I feel much better about just getting my hands dirty in it all. I had wrote something to someone yesterday about jumping in and just doing it, but when it comes to dealing with it yourself it can be a daunting task - especially when it still has that new smell, lol. Anyway, thanks again. You guys really rock.
Will stop back later on after I've done my thing
I think they are both nice devices. There are trade off for both of them. I think the screen on the iPad is wonderful, where the gTab's is okay. But the gTab has a forward facing camera, you can print from it, and you can modify it fairly easily too.

Seriously though...trust the directions from the great devs like roebeet. Follow their instructions word for word. You can switch ROMs and then flash back if you want. No worries...
Off topic!
Well...disappointment! Fedex had my package out for delivery at 8am and at 8pm, they're not here. This is why I like UPS, they show up at my door on the day of delivery, no exceptions - they have shown up at almost 9pm before. The Archos 101 I got was sent out at 8am as well but got here at 1:30pm - I suppose that was before the holiday rush.
Checking the details of my tracking I'm seeing a "delivery exception" at 7:30pm (I guess it was time to get back to the facility so they can clock out by 8pm?) and upon calling them I get a somewhat stumbling but polite CS who tells me the delivery went out "late" - upon which I asked if 8am was considered late, especially from a distribution facility WITHIN the same zip code as I am, and all he could say was "Very sorry about this".
Aaaanyway....I guess it will be tomorrow before I can report my adventures.
Think I'll be able to get my $3.99 back from Amazon? I have Prime and with that the package would have come tomorrow anyway. Basically my $3.99 is wasted. Imagine if I didn't have Prime though? Whew.

If you can figure out how to brick it you will probably get an award.. It won't be a good award but probably one of those top ten dumb things people do awards. So far unless you plug the motherboard into a wall socket no one has bricked one. May think they have, but like I said before I doubt it..
And your right.. If it can be done, someone eventually will figure out how. And then we will all laugh at them.. At least I will
I finally got the G tablet tonight and...alright, don't flame me for this - but I don't see what all the complaints about the screen being horrendous or the device being molasses slow are about?
I don't know how people are trying to view it...but when looking at it or setting it on a stand to watch media, I'm not seeing any problem with the viewing angles. It's about the same as my laptop so I watch it the same way.
It's not even a 1/4 as slow as the stuff I've seen on Youtube or in some of the review videos I've seen around the net. I haven't gotten a single FC. Granted, I haven't put in a SD Card yet so maybe problems will start then?
I guess I should note, the very first thing I did was did a factory reset. Then I hooked it up to Wifi and got the 3053 update. I'm one of those who will be waiting for the 'official' update on the 24th.
I set up the time and date, restarted and everything works. I haven't installed flash yet (don't need it that much) and stuff that I DO want on there right now works fine (skype, pandora, fring, dropbox, evernote). I'm slowly figuring out a list of what I want/need from my Mytouch 4G to port to the VS GTab. Figure I don't really NEED Gtalk, Gmail on there because I have these on my phone AND PC - do I really want them making noises all around my home on 3 devices? I was concerned about getting the Google Apps on but now I'm finding I really don't need them. So it seems to me this will be a matter of learning to separate what I need on a tablet vs. my phone - I was of the mentality that I should just get whatever's on my phone on the tablet, this is something others apparently do as they seem to want everything that's on their phone, on their tablets as well.
I personally don't see the point in that. Had I had the Google Market, that would have escaped me as I'd have used Appbrain to just get my motherload of apps from the MT4G to the GTab. Not having it has slowed me, and now I get to re-evaluate before I do grab apps for it.
Now I just have to merge/convert my HTPC into a NAS device as well and find an app that will allow me to DLNA stream media from it and I'll be in mobile heaven.
I haven't had my wifi drop at all anywhere in my home and I've marched all over with it (I use full Wifi N, no G compat. so maybe my range is wider?). Tried email, etc. to replicate crashes and force closes but haven't so far. No surfing issues. I DID find that one app got 'stuck' being downloaded and I had to delete the file before the 'downloading' icon would go away, even after restart.
Maybe the trick to getting a workable GTab in the first place is to factory reset it before first use? Iunno. Things may change and issues may pop up the more I use it and as time passes - but so far, so good!
Again, I can't thank XDA enough for the advice and info. I've found and been given.

I figured it out. Accidentally hit one of the devkit nvflash .cabs and boom

New Charge owner, have issues, will root solve this?

I just left my Incredible (restart error made it useless) and opted for the Charge over Incredible 2 for 4g support for the future.
I love the phone but the OS SUCKS! Its slow to wake up and often gets clogged for a second, the design (even with launcher pro) is ugly, the added programs drive me nuts and for some reason my PC won't connect to it. (Mac is cool) And like most I'm weary for future support.
I've seen the root process is extensive (I rooted my first Eris which was easy as pie). Are there any reliable builds either out or upcoming, either official or root, that would get rid of the Whiz Bang stuff (ideally give me my Sense UI back) and ensure I'll live in 2.3 eventually?
I have 10 days!
Put Clockwork on your phone:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1092114
Then put the debloated version of ED2 on there.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1094304
I haven't had any problems connecting to my PC. As for Mac, I haven't tried yet.
Out of box, my charge seemed slow and laggy. As soon as I rooted it, it got better. Then with jt's root for ED2 and voodoo lagfix it got much better (esp after freezing verizons bloat). Now with imnuts debloater, its way smoother.
Im pretty sure touchwiz is very taxing on the phone, so putting launcherpro on top will only make it worse. Freeze touchwiz or install imnuts' custom rom/debloat.

Any good videos or guides you can recommend off the top of your head to get started?
Its actually super easy. Im very new to this stuff too. All I've rooted before was my Htc Thunderbolt.
Read through all the threads regarding rooting, and if you're still confused or unsure then ask. Everyone here is super chill, even to the noob questions. I know from first hand experience in asking a few noob questions. Lol

Pushing files is done through CMD (command), and it's basically "pushing" files from your computer onto your phone's SDcard. "$" and "#" basically tell you if you have root or not. "$" for non-root and "#" for root.
Don't let this stuff freak you out. It's not as hard as it looks. I think in order to run adb push, you need to have android sdk installed on your computer.
Can do! As soon as I get set up with an hour to kill ill hop back on. Thanks!
