Was planning on getting a O2 Xda ignito or HTC Diamond as I believe they are also known as but today came across the O2 Xda Serra which looks the same but just has the qwerty pull out keyboard.
Is the keyboard the only difference or are there other not so obvious differences?
Will the same software/apps etc work on either phone too?

One thing I have been trying to find is some place to show the differnces between the the different versions.
I own the XDA, read about the XDA II and know those differences from this site, but beyond when it comes to the XDA III, I have no clue other then the outside differences.
Reason I'm bringing this up is because I am looking to get the Audiovox XV6600 from Verizon. (XDA III with no camera) The problem I have run in to is knowing if the old hardware I have with my XDA will work with the XDA III. Specifically the GPS I use on the old unit.
I did read the forum entry about the conversion of a plug from the older XDA to the XDA III, but are all the pinouts really the same?
In addition, I have read so many varried reports on battery life of the XDA 3 I don't know which one to believe. anywhere from 1.5 hours to 6 hours has been stated for talk time.
Lastly, does the XDA III have the programable ROM like the XDA II has?
Will XDA-Developers be doing another In-Depth look at this model like they did on the XDA and XDA II? Would be really helpful.

The compatability of your GPS will depend on the software you use.. so if your using the same software you used on the XDA then it will work on the XDA II/III as the pinouts are the same.. most of the aftermarket connectors i've found don't have the metal shield on the connector (this is the only bit that would need to be modified to connect upto an XDAIII) so most things will just plug straight in.. others you will need to cut a strip out of the metal cover (see linked post for a better explanation)
All of the XDA* devices have upgradable ROM's
As for battery life.. I would say that my XDAIIs is satisfactory, with using PDA/Phone on and off for a day and the occasional MP3 playing session.. It drops down to about 40%. - That is about 1000% better than my Ipaq 4150!

Thanks for the reply, Swifty, but need to clear up what I ment by programable ROM. What I was meaning, user programable for programs and data to not be lost when you hard resit. Good to know about the connectors. Thank you very much on that. The software is more then compatable.

I managed to locate this review to help in some opening light aspects. The Audiovox XC6600 from Verizon = Audiovox PPC6601 from Sprint PCI.
It lacks Wi/Fi just for a note. But at least you can have one added with an SDIO Wi/Fi card if needed.
What the review states for memory on these two is this:
It has a generous 128 megs of RAM and 14.57 megs of Flash ROM available for program and data storage.

I have read where some of the variants, specifically T-Moble MDA-III has 48megs of Flash ROM available for program and data, but the statement was in a forum that was not the most reliable...
More input and verification of the found information would be MUCH more helpful then simple words on a $600 purchase.

Im planning to buy an xda phone the problem is im confuse which one I will hoose betwwen xda IIs or xda II mini, help... i want the one that will satisfy me most between this two

your choice should be between hermes, universal and Trinity
It would also help if you told us what you are looking for in a phone.
I for one would never get a Universal, simply because of its size.
Got a brief glimpse of a Hermes in person, and liked it mostly (still seemed a bit sluggish despite the improved processor).
But then again, I am happy with my Jamin.

Im looking at getting rid of my N95 so ive been looking at the HTC or XDA from what ive been reading they are the same phone. For buying one the XDA is cheepest.
My question is once its unlocked can i flash the XDA with the Cruise rom?
Ive see cooked roms for the cruise will they also work this the Orbit 2?

Yes, they are the same hardware. They will have slightly different 'vanilla' ROM's though. As far as I'm aware you will be able to flash a Cruise rom onto an Orbit2
I have choosen the O2 Version. In Germany you got TomTom with German Maps. Also ther is more content like Car Adapter.
An the design is a little bitt better
got to disagree about the design, buttons seem a bit cheap on the xda imho and are slightly concaved unnecessarily ... just my 2p worth
My contract is up for renewal tommorow, im looking at getting a htc phone as i used to own and orbit a while ago and enjoyed modding.So out of the ignito or serra which would you choose? I wouldnt mind tyring out android aswell if that is possible on these phones.Thanks

No experience of either but i think i'd take the Serra. Don't want the slide out keyboard and it is slightly thicker but overall it looks like the better of the two.

My Tytn II sais the sim card is not there anymore, though it is!
So I may decide to buy a new one instead of messing with hardware spare parts etc.
Which phone do you suggest?
I am quite interested in the HD7 or the Desire Z... but I may consider even a non-HTC device if you suggest a suitable one!

I think I'll go for the Desire HD or Samsung Nexus S (which has Android 2.3 and an AMOLED screen) ...though my love for HTC will win, I guess!
I had a HTC TyTN II myself and I was very happy with it and eventually replaced it with a HTC Touch Pro2 and found that even better.
I've recently just changed again and I'm now using the HTC Desire Z and if you want a hardware keyboard (as I do) then I can't recommend it enough! It's a bit weird at first that it doesn't tilt (as both the TyTN II and Touch Pro2 do), but you get used to it and I haven't looked back!

I too love my TyTN II, but I am afraid that hardware replacing is not worth: it's quite of an "old" device even if it still works perfectly.
I think the hw keyboard is pretty useful but it also makes the device more fragile and the Desire Z's seems to be really fragile or at least really carefulness-consuming! What's your opinion on this?
