Touch Pro Broke My Micro SDHC Card :-( - Touch Pro, Fuze General

Hi,
I received my new Touch pro and it worked fine for a day, i noticed that it would stop reading the card. i would press the back and the thing would read again. take the card out and put it back in and it would work. then it stopped working all together. No matter what i card i put in it does not read at all.
I put the card into my PC to test and it wont read, i put in another card and it reads fine in the PC but not in the phone..
does anyone know of any utilities that i could use to repair this card.. maybe the FAT table got screwed up.
Eazy

if your PC read the card, so i think not the card is damaged
i think your diamond pro isnt work well...

no..
I have 2 cards.. a 8 gig and a 1 gig.
the 8 gig worked fine until my diamond pro broke it. it will not read in the phone or the PC. my 1 gig wont read in the phone but works fine in the pc. the card reader in the phone is now dead and the 8 gig is now dead. when i put the 8 gig in the pc it will come up with a drive letter but with a 0 file size and when i click on the drive it tells me to insert disk.
so does anyone know of a program to repair the SDHC?

firstly, thats a Micro SD card, not a SIM card.
Secondly, please could you give more details on make/how old/type of the SD cards trying to be used.
Chances are it was still trying to write when u pulled it out, so it needs formatting.
if you format it make sure it is the right format!

I figured that you noticed after my second post that the subject was wrong..
anyway.. its a 8gig SanDisk about 8 months old. also there was no chance that it was trying to write when i pulled it out. if you look at my first post you will see that the card reader on the phone is damaged and im looking for some type of program to repair the Micro SDHC card...
I am not going to format the card.. I need the information off the card and Ontrack wants 100 to look at the card and 400 to recover the information. This card worked fine with my other pone until i got the diamond with the bad SD card reader.

There's no such thing as a Diamond Pro; only a Diamond or a Pro. As you're talking about removable memory cards I assume you mean the Pro, in which case you're in the wrong forum and you're likely to get more constructive feedback here.

You guys are killing me.. What does that have to do with the fact that I have a bad SDHC card and want to know if there is any application out there that could help me out. If nobody has one to help me then I guess that’s just the case. You guys really get tied up on minute detail rather than the situation on hand. I will edit the subject again, and maybe it will get moved over to the Raphael area..
Thanks for your responses..

Might be a daft question but, have you tried chkdsk?
If that doesn't work how about a/ looking at the card with parted (or similar) in Linux or b/ finding a hex editor that will read the disk 'surface' directly.

i will try my linux box in a few minutes..
let me clarify..
i would go to file explorer and it would see the card.. i would try to go to a directory and ht would not see the card and only show my device. i would take the cover off and press on the back, turn the phone over and it would see the storage card again..
so technically if it had a loose connection and while browsing the directories it lost connectivity that could have possibly simulated the removing the card while it was writing issue.

Eh..
Thanks guys.. the linux box could not mount the card.. Ill send it out for recovery.. :-(

Try following the links from this Artemis thread for hints to recover any salvageable data.
I guessed, along with others, early on in this saga that writeback cacheing could be the culprit.
The 'fix' that eventually solved the problem tends to suggest that hardware, (bad contacts etc) wasn't the problem IMO
The end result is the same though, the FAT or mbr gets messed up.
How about fdisk/mbr on your SD (research first though please).

Funny, I was just searching Google for a fix or repair software for my SDCH card that my Fuze broke and ended up here (my favorite website). I guess is a phone realted issue?

i know this isnt the first of this post. people dont use search anymore. but i had bought an 8gb sandisk card for my fuze when i bought the thing. shortly after the card went all stupid on my like everyone else. i was told by att it wasnt an issue with the phone, it was the sd cards. att replaced it for free, quick and easy, no questions asked. see if you can get it changed out for you where you bought it.

Touch Pro not recognising my 8gb Micro SDHC Card

I have just taken delivery of my Touch Pro. I inserted my 8GB into slot (correctly) however, when I go to memory/storage card it says not installed.
Any comments, help or ideas most welcome. The card is Sandisk and was working in the phone I took it out of.
How is the card formatted, what phone did you use it in?
likely the card... but try another?
i just put a 16Gb micro sdhc in yesterday after direct copy from my 2Gb to the 16Gb, popped it in and it was fine (had to reinstall iGo but nothing else needed to be done with all other apps installed in phone memory)
Sounds like it needs formatting perhaps? Hard to think what else could be going on there, but TP took my 8GB card without problems, and is now running with my 16GB card without problems.
like a few other people said already...formatting...that should do it!
I did excatly the same thing with a 8GB Sandisk Ultra. It worked first time no problem.
There are A LOT of fakes on eBay which are incredibly hard to distinguish - I got a Sony Memory Stick that just had lots of write and read errors and just stopped working. You might wanna check if the problem persists.

Place it in a computer, right click over the drive icon, format.
I formatted my Touch Pro 2 with Fat32 format, and it will only see 8G and it's a 16G. What's the deal?

microSDHC card reading problems

Hey guys!
Last friday, I finally got my Toshiba TG01, which came with a 8GB Class 4 microSDHC card.
I didn't put it in my phone, since there's a virus on some of these cards!
Now I want to format the card with my Windows XP computer, but when I try to access it with a SD card adapter, it freezes my Explorer...
It gets stuck until I put the card out of it!
I also tried a USB adapter on my Vista PC and it only tells me this:
"Please insert a disk into Removable Disk ( H: )."
Same thing on the XP PC.
Can anyone help me?
sounds like a defect microSD card
Try disabling the autostart feature and then use the Panasonic SD formatting software.
yip know the feeling, the cheap card that came with my HD does the same, although it still works perfectly with my device and is accessable using a/sync.
Going to buy a good make class 6
well id put it in the phone then put the phone into the pc and make it a usb mass storage device
then if it can be seen then awesome format it
the card wont have any affect of the phone its it plugged into the pc as a mass storage device as the phone cant se it
Try reformatting the card, to fat32 using hp's low level format tool it worked for me.
my card is fat32, pc using xp pro still wont recognise it using card reader, although all is fine in disk drive and active sync......no real biggy....
it may be a defective reader
Hi all, just wanted to add something to this, as I have a TG01, and have had a few issues with memory cards with it. This is something I poseted on http://www.modaco.com/content/toshi...5/strange-files-appearing-on-my-storage-card/
"Hi folks, just thought I would update you with a few issues I'v had re the memory cards. I've used the ones supplied by Toshiba, (not the best) but also a Sandisk 16GB and 8GB, and both suffered corruption issues. It took about a hour to copy most of the files over to my laptop, and to do that, I had to put the mem card in my Touch Pro! I'm not sure what this means, as some people have said they have had no issues. It would be interesting to see what proportion of us actually suffer from memory card corruption using other brands! Looks like I may have to carry a backup of my mem card for a while!!... "
I'm not the only the only one with issues, as a few others on that forum have had them too. Wish i knew what was causing it. May have to go back to the old reliable Touch Pro untill we get the promised upgrades?..
Lets hope not.........
nope its not the reader, bought a new one last week as i thought it may have been that. Im sures its something to do with micro sdhc cards and just being made baldy.... cheap is nto always good huh...............
mm thought id add a poll to the thread, would be interesting to see whats the worst offender.......
Let me know if your brands not there, ill add it

Terzer,
Sadly, you'll probably have to get a new one. If you try to get it to work, you'll most likely lose even more data! The same thing happened to me only three weeks ago. My card was at most six months old.
Basically, microSD cards are very delicate. As if by fate, I had just read an article about that right before my card went belly up! My new card even has a notice recommending that the card be inserted and removed as few times as possible, for this very reason.
Given this, and given that, for the most part, when they're in good condition they're very reliable, when you start having problems with a card like this, it's FAR more likely that the card has gone bad in some way.
When mine went bad I tried everything I could think of to get it working again. And I succeeded! Trying all different block sizes, I got it to format in the flash drive on my desktop system.
It died again within 48 hours!
I know these things are expensive. Unfortunately, this one is probably a loss. Sorry!

so the damage is physical?
Thank You!

There's no way to tell what the problem is. Basically, though, all problems with flash cards are physical in one sense or another. It's extremely unlikely that it's a driver or card reader error if it was working before. It could be a filesystem error, but if you've already tried to re-format it and failed, well, that doesn't really leave much else.
I don't have your original post in front of me. Did you try formatting it in a computer? If not, then you should definitely try that. (You'll need a microSD to full SD adapter or a microSD to USB.) Also, try doing a full format. (In Windows that means not doing a Quick Format.) A Quick Format just tries to create a new File Table. A full format will try to make a new filesystem. I don't know if there's a way to do an actual hardware format. (Actually, I don't believe that has any meaning on a solid state device.)
Anyway, even if you do get it to format successfully, be very careful what you put on it. That's exactly what happened to me. As I said, after finally getting it to format, it died again in less than two days.
This is about all I can tell you to try. (BTW, I'm a system administrator. ) Basically, and I am really sorry, it's probably dead. I'm guessing they're pretty [email protected]!n expensive in Bulgaria? I know they are here. I almost cried when my first one died!
Although, looking at it in a positive light , when I got my first one they only had Class 2 devices. My new Adata card is Class 6. The difference is amazing. Whatever you wind up doing, my suggestion would be to limit how many times you take it in and out of your phone.

Formatting new SD card?

I have a MT3G rooted with CM 4.0.4 using the one click method. I'm getting a new Transcend 8GB Class 6 card. I believe this card come with an adapter to plug into a regular SD slot. To format do I just use my comp to format the card to FAT32? Then load my saved data back to the sd card and load it back into my phone? Is it that easy?
Welcome to forums,
Yes it works that way
lol, yep as orb says
I have the same card (which i will be shortly throwing in the bin due to its unreliablity) and find its better to use the sd adaptor than one of those crappy usb adaptors for micro sd cards (like the sandisk usb adaptor that doesnt work!!)
Just my opinion, but id recomend buying the best make you can when it comes to micro sdhc cards, my transcend one decided to wipe itself clean the other day during a phone call..... a sure warning that its on its way out....
Lost all my music, photos blah blah..... (didnt back it up either tut tut...)
Flash Format is the best way, imo. I've had corruptions before where my pc and fuze couldn't sse the card, but flash format was able to re-format. The demo works fine, and the app costs about 10 bucks. I've had major problems with my 16 g sandisk, but think I figured out how to keep it healthy. Quick tips: 1 Set all default downloads a nd save paths and whatnot to main memory, including PIE cache. 2 Put any apps you use a lot or especially that run continuously (don't forget services) on main memory. 3 Do not put Finger Keyboard on your card, lol. The instructions tell you not to, but this is not a challengr to do it anyway. Guaranteed corruption. Trust me, I did it cuz I'm an idiot. 4 If you use a disk scanner/repairer, and it finds problems, don't just delete the recovered (and messed up files). Open them with notepad, and see what they are. This will give you an idea of the corruption source.
My notebook is not picking up the sd card with adapter? I have a slot on my notebook, I thought it was bad contact, cleaned it and still nothing? WTF!!
timmymarsh: This is a subjective topic in terms of SD card, I looked and everybody recommended Transcend, its even on a list of recommended cards by TMobile?? I guess I'll find out? Do you have a recommendation?
FarmerTed: Flash format say nothing about being compatible for android os? I don't know if it will work?
why dont you just put the sd card into you phone. mount the sd card via usb and format it from there?
I tried that, but my notebook says theres nothing? I also tried just installing the new card and trying to format it with the phone. I formated the card, but it said the card is damaged and it wont do anything? So either the card is just not getting recognized or it is bad? I'll keep tinkering with, if it doesnt work, I'll send it back to newegg.

Oops, sorry, didn't realize you were on android. All I can suggest is searching for a similar app that runs on android, or maybe looking for undelete programs for your desktop. There's probably something out there that will fix your card.

[Q] Write-protected sd card...

Hi!
A few days ago I bought a Takems 16gb class 6 microsdhc and it worked, but today i put the card in a galaxy s...when a put back in my desire the card was working but the phone can1t write... i tried to format but i can't it, because the card is write-protected...sd adapter has a lock/unlock switch but it can't help...
how can i remove the write protection?
there may be a password on the card
or encryption
hmm...i tried it in my friend's galaxy s, but didn't work...
i can't foramat the card...low level format didn't work....
i don't have any idea..
I have the same problem...

There is only one solution... destroy it with a hammer
you can buy a new card or give it back and request a new if it has guarantee
return to seller or use linux and gparted or sdformatter from http://www.sdcard.org/consumers/formatter_3/SDFormatterv3.0.zip
to format the card and try to bring it back to life
I'm not sure why in this situation people insist in saying "format the card" with one piece of software or another as this simply will not work.
I have an 8gb USB stick that has done the exact same thing and no software you try and use will format it as they all report it as write protected.
Gparted, hp utility, sd format, a long list of other usb formatting tools, partition magic the list goes on none of them work.
Even a low level format at linux command prompt will not work as it gets mounted read only so it just errors.
This is an error where the hardware is mistakenly interpreted as write protected, very often caused by a write interrupt leaving corrupted data behind.
After about 2 weeks of trying every solution on google I have come to the conclusion that the stick is no good you can read what is on it already but that's it.
So my advice is stop banging your head against the wall and just get a new stick, format it and copy over what is on the old one
