Anyway to force 3g over edge? - Touch Pro, Fuze General

My Fuze is always connected via EDGE, even though I live in a 3G serviced area (San Francisco Bay Area). I'm assuming the phone is choosing the stronger of the two signals by default, which is fine for voice, but EDGE is excruciatingly slow for streaming video. Is there a way to force the phone to use the 3G connection?

I dont know about the Fuze but on the european Touch Pro, all you have to do is
Start --> Settings--> "Phone" Icon -->"Band" Tab
Here you can choose your netwok type, by default it is set to auto, but you can force CDMA only if you want.

Thank you for the help, but unfortunately there is no "Band" tab under Start --> Settings --> Phone on my Fuze.

Install the Advanced Config utility (you can find it pretty easily if you search the forums). Using this you should be able to restore the phone app's band page. This is a common way carriers prevent you from messing with settings they don't want you to. You're actually lucky, there are more tricky things to fix than this one .

I got my Fuze today and was wondering this exact question about the 3g network and your fix worked!
Thank you

What setting was changed to get this effect? Sorry ultimate PPC newb.

Once you install and have Advanced Config up and running you go to Phone tab, click on it and it opens a new tree if items for you to click on, scroll down some til you find "Show Band Page" click on it and then change it from "No (default)" to Yes. Click the left soft key that says "Done" and then it will ask you to restart your phone, click yes on that message and once its back up and running you should have access to the band tab in settings for the Phone.
If you have any other questions post here and I'll try to help out.

Is there an answer to this question or not? How do I force 3G? There are 3 to choose from. 2 of them disable data connection. The other doesn't force 3G. I must be doing something wrong.

Multiple missing menu in service mode, Possible ways to enable

Coming from SGS where I could select WCDMA/GSM in the Settings>Mobile Network
or through *#301279# and select HSDPA/GSM mode
I find it bit annoying not to be able to
1. switch off 3G mode when not neeeded so as to conserve battery.
2. preferentially select wcdma/3G mode in slightly weaker 3G areas for faster net.
Though it is understandable to an extent missing menu in UI customized by/for ATT
But it surprises me how the *#301279# menu is also disabled.
Also number of menus in service mode are also disabled (menu does not exist).
Is there a way we can re-enable these?
Can we push "service mode 2.2.1" from some other device (e.g. backed up through titanium etc and restored over the one in infuse.)
(There is no Q&A section and this is more than general query so I have put it in dev section. I apologize if I was wrong.)
Try *#*#4636#*#*
Then choose "phone information"
there you'll find the option to choose the preferred network type.
I assume this is what you are looking for?
Already tried that.
The option to choose band is there but this does not stay, in fact it is not getting executed. Immediately after setting without even reboot if we go back to the menu *#*#4636#*#* it has reverted to wcdma/gsm auto prl.
In galaxy s and galaxy s2, there is a option in mobile network settings, and also your suggested method holds. Also *#301279# takes us to selection for hspa version.
Is there some apk like wireless teether manager which if frozen could allow internal android menu to work.
Or we need to push service mode from galaxy s...
I am not a developer and not confident to risk a brick... Wish someone with knowledge about these to look into this.

You should definitely risk a brick. Why else would you be at xda?
I personally would ADB pull the backup from the infuse while in recovery and push the new from SGS rom. That way if you bootloop, you can adb reboot recovery, possibly get a recovery reboot and then push the original back.
Keep us posted.
*#*#4636#*#* does hold i have been on wcdma only for days now after going in and making the changes press the home key not back if you press back it reverts back to auto by pressing home i got it to stay

You could also try the *#0011# menu.
Then press the menu key and press back. Then press menu and choose "phone control" then press either "network control" or "hspa cat control".
This should be what you're looking for, if not, I'm sorry.

att disabled this feature on all their phone, it' working on SGS cus you using a uk/europe rom.
the only way it will work on infuse is someone make a custom kernel for it. or wait for canada version of infuse.

Thanks for the encouragement... I took a plunge and atleast concluded few things in process.
I pushed service mode from Galaxy S in number of ways, .apk pull and push, titanium backup and restore, supermanager backup and push.
But Service mode>>Debug Screen>>Phone Control>>Network control Has missing [4]-----, which in SGS is service acusition order,
Also RRC(HSPA) control sows menu does not exist.
But at this moment it Struck me, What I am pushing is the UI and commands/codes but the menu has to exist on the ROM...
And in this case The RADIO ROM or the baseband. Probably samsung has modified basebands for ATT thats why we may never be able to get full choice on choosing 2g/3gNetwork (not data)
I found switching to 2g network helped battery life big time while in my work. Only to switch back to 3g network when I needed data/vedio call.
Screen Shots show how convenient it is in Samsung Galaxy S and S2.
So for the sake of More Juice from battery Lets hunt....
Have you tried *#2263#. You can switch between gsm/wcdma band easily. I've tested myself to keep my phone stuck to 3g in weaker reception areas.
Yes that is one way of doing it, In fact I created Contact entry By name 0f "2g3g" with that code in. Look at the screen shots in my earlier post Wish there could be this menu...

Lock 3G signal

Is there any way to lock my Optimus 7 into 3G signal and not let it fall back to EDGE/GPRS when 3G is available with weakest signal? Happens a lot and its annoying.
The default behavior is to use the highest-speed connection. If it's falling back to EDGE, that's almost certainly because the error threshold was too high for useful connectivity.
There is a way to turn off 3G (which is also much more battery-hungry) but I don't know of one to turn off EDGE. You could look around in the disagnostics app for a way to specify the thresholds used, though, and myabe tweak them (the HD7 diag app shows the current setup but doesn't let us change it).

"Set preferred network type" defaulting to GSM only after a reboot

I recently tried to fix my GPS issues by trying out some previous OPO modem files, I ended up just reflashing the 33R one though as none helped. I now have a more annoying issue since doing this.
My network, Three UK uses LTE/WCDMA, so in the *#*#4636#*#* menu it is best to set "Set preferred network type:" to LTE/WCDMA, but after a reboot this changes to GSM every time, resulting in no signal at all.
I did some googling and found that some people had been able to edit their build.prop to change this default value, I changed the values as seen in the attached image. Unfortunately after a reboot it now only changes to WCDMA only and not LTE/WCDMA only. Does anyone know what changes I would have to make to make it change to LTE/WCDMA only?
Thanks.
If someone could upload their default build.prop that would also be useful.

Three has no 2G network at all, 3G/H+/LTE only. With it set to "GSM only" I have no signal at all.
I just need to set it to WCDMA/LTE and it works perfectly. The default config (after a reboot) that came with the phone works great too but it's changed to GSM only after flashing modems.
I've just flashed stock system.img, boot.img and modem using fastboot from the 33R fastboot zip but it's still not working as I'd like.

this works but requires root, it works for dual sim as well, the settings will "stick" (save and apply) after a reboot. and PLEASE NOTE that of course you change the "3" to your preferred network

Network Type selection

Hi, i just want to know if there's any option to change network type to 3G ONLY (or 2G only). The options in settings are preferred network so they switch to another network type when needed, and I dont like that.
I tried *#*#4636#*#* and change it from there but it still goes back to original setting.
Any tricks/solution out there? Thanks!!!
I used to use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/widget-toggle-network-type-5-0-xda-t2945406 but it's not working for me after installing CM14.1. Some people say it's working in their devices with Android 7 though, so give it a try and see. Needs root.
If it doesn't work and you ever find an alternative, please do let us know here.

Hi, I think I found a solution. I still use the *#*#4636#*#* code and choose WCDMA Only and leave it as it is. I noticed that it only goes back to original network type IF I enter the "Cellular network settings" screen (**even without changing any options in it). So just stay away on that part in Settings and your network will stay as you selected.

Yeah, I was aware of that. That behavior (reverting to the selected mode in settings upon opening the activity) was introduced in Marshmallow. Who knows why. Unfortunately this is still not ideal for me because I usually keep the phone in 2G only unless I need a faster connection. With that plugin, which no longer works, I could use Tasker to change network modes depending on contexts or a simple tap in Tasker's persistent notification buttons, which I had configured to do just that. Going into the dialer, entering the code and then navigating through the option every time I need to change modes is too much work, but I guess I have no other option until either the dev updates his plugin or another plugin is developed.
Thanks anyway, mate.

[urgent] I broke my signal band mode

So I went into *#*#4636#*#* and I putted my phone in my pocket with screen on.
I took it out of my pocket and I saw set bandmode 23 successful.
No my question is, how can I revert this.
I've tried every different bandmode there is to select
Euro: gives me Edge connection and I can call
Bandmode 43. Gives me 4g but I can't call.
Not in the *#*#4636#*#* menu but in something else
I know about the engineering mode and I know how to enter it too. There is an option bandmode and bandmode2 both with over 100 different modes
Setting it to auto from this even more secret menu still didn't work.
To get in this mode download shortcut manager from gp.
Open app tap 3 dots and click app explorer.
Scroll down to com.oneplus.factorymode tap it
In there you will find bandmode and bandmode2
Any fix? I've tried every possible fix.
I'd like to call and use mobile data.
