SOLVED: Opera browser does not work with ISP.CINGULAR on AT&T Fuze - Touch Pro, Fuze General

I just upgraded from a Tilt to the Fuze. In setting up my new device I noticed that Opera has issues with the ISP.CINGULAR internet connection. I always setup my device to use the ISP.CINGULAR connection because I use a VPN on my device and need the public IP address on my phone - so I can't use the MediaNet connection.
So I did what I typically do:
Change the default internet connection to ISP.CINGULAR
Execute the disable proxy cab in Programs->Tools->Proxy
After this PIE works just fine and browsing to www.whatismyip.com shows that I am getting a 166.217.X.X ip (which is correct for ISP.CINGULAR, the MediaNet WAP.CINGULAR shows up as a 32.X.X.X ip)
When I launch Opera though it cannot get to any webpage. After a while it comes back with an error page stating "Could not connect to proxy server".
Also, if I launch Opera first and let it error out, and then try to launch PIE, I once again cannot get to any webpages. Interestingly, if I close Opera and refresh the page in PIE then the webpages work again. This looks to me like regardless if you execute the disable proxy cab, when you launch Opera it brings back the AT&T proxy settings for the duration that Opera is running.
Opera does work just fine over wifi. So apparently it does know that it should not use the proxies over wifi. I am kind of at a loss at this point. Any suggestions on more things to try? Your help is greatly appreciated!
EDIT: I just tried connecting to my wifi at home, and launching Opera (3G is already connected). Opera does use the wifi connection. If I then go to comm mgr and turn off wifi without closing Opera, Opera still works and uses the ISP.CINGULAR connection. While this is a very crude workaround, I'd really like to use Opera as a browser.

This may be related, I'm not sure. I have changed the user agent spoofing and custom user agent string in Opera, but I'm still getting the mobile version of some sites (m.cnn.com, for one) when I connect via AT&T wireless. When I connect via wifi, I get the full site. This happens regardless of whether I disable or enable the proxy, as mentioned in your post.
Any suggestions on fixing this would be gratefully received.

UPDATE:
If you launch Opera and go to opera:config it brings up the configuation similar to firefox.
Find the "proxy" section and remove the HTTP and HTTPS entries that point to some cingular hostname.
Save the config.
Exit Opera and restart it.
All is good and no proxy anymore!!!

Thanks -- that works great! (Interestingly, those entries are blank when Opera is connected to the wifi; I had to turn off wifi and restart Opera with the wireless connection in order to fix this.)

Where is the opera:config settings in Opera? I see "settings", but I don't see anything suggesting "proxy". I am obviously looking in the wrong place. Where is the right place to look?

u have to enter "opera:config" into the address bar without the apostrophes.

just a question from a first time 3g user, what's the difference between media.net and isp.cingular?

WM6 proxy setting, quick help.

Hello.
I'm using faria's latest WM6 ROM, but can't find where to enter proxy server / proxy settings in accordance to t-mobile's guide. WM6 doesnt have the place where to enter proxy numbers as specified. After a little digging i heard you might need to change the settings in the registry for wm6.
Can anyone please advise?
Thanks!
12. Tap Edit my proxy server under T-Mobile GPRS.
13. Tap to check This network connects to the Internet.
14. Tap to check This network uses a proxy server to connect to the Internet.
15. Enter 216.155.165.050 in the Proxy server field.
16. Tap Advanced.
17. Tap HTTP.
18. Enter 8080 in the Port field.
Click to collapse
I was able to configure mine just fine today, but I'll admit it took me a few tries in the past before I figured it out.
Go to Start --> Settings --> Connections tab --> Connections.
Since you're not using the standard T-Mobile ROM, just adapt the steps a bit to match up with what is on the WM6 ROM. Where it says T-Mobile GRPS in the instructions, actually use the My Work Network section on the device. You can also rename My Work Section to T-Mobile GRPS if you want.
Under that section, you should see:
Add a new modem connection
Add a new VPN server connection
Edit my proxy server
Other than the My Work Network/T-Mobile GPRS thing, the steps were exactly the same.
Oh yeah, instead of 216.165.155.050 enter 216.165.155.50.
I did that and I was able to get an Edge connection and send/receive MMS messages from my Verizon phone.

Hi.
When I goto Settings > Connection; "My Work" is no longer listed as a connection, only My Home.
How can i get back / add "My Work" ?
THanks.
Hmmm... I'm not sure. I have My ISP and My Work Network and I've always had that with the WM6 ROM's.
Dave
I know this is kind of buggy... I had the same issue.
If you add a new connection, call it My Work or something, and choose GPRS 3G for the type, and finish, it will put 2 connections, which will allow you to change between My Work Network again, etc. No registry hack needed, it's there, it's just not showing. By adding a 2nd connection, it will show your "My Work Network" again. Keep in mind, if you had MMS messaging, but no 'net until now, once the 'net works, you will have to change your MMS setting to "My Work Network" as well.
Now 'net and MMS works on my phone (Cingular 8525) on Tmobile, using only T-Zones and WM6 Thx for the help!

Fuze - VPN to Compnay Network - Remote Desktop Works, Intranet browsing does not

I have the AT&T Fuze with the stock ROM. I purchased it the first day it came out. I think this was 11/11/2008. I have the PDA Personal plan for unlimited data. I have things set up so that my contacts and email synch with our Exchange server. I can remote desktop from my Fuze using the data network to any machine that I can remote to from my computer, so from that, I am thinking VPN must be configured correctly. On one of these machines that I connect to, I have IIS running and put a very simple web page on it (no script, nothing IE specific). From my work computer, it loads fine. I can remote desktop from my Fuze to any machine on the network and launch IE and load it. But, I can't load it directly from my Fuze in either Opera or IE. It does initiate the VPN connection. But, then I get the error HTTP gateway timed out. I'm really not interested in viewing the page that I created. We use Perforce, which is source control system. It has a jobs portion, which we use to track bugs. There is a web interface to the jobs, which is on the intranet, not internet. I don't have rights to remote to the Perforce server, and that is why I initially tried putting a simple page on a machine that i am an admin on. I want to be able to click on a link in my email and have it load the bug in Opera. If I am home and turn on WiFi, and disable the data network, this works fine. This bypasses AT&T's machines, which makes me think there is something that AT&T is blocking. And if they are, then maybe it is the AT&T bloat this is telling them what it is. Our IT guy has verified that I am successfully VPNing in. He is seing the mycingular.net in the firewall.
My boss has the same phone, but purchased more recently, and his is working fine for this. He has flashed the new AT&T test ROM, and done the thing that keeps the AT&T bloat from getting installed.
The fact that remote desktop works, but browsing a webpage on the same machine does not, makes me think there is more to this than just network settings.
If anyone has the anwer to this, please share. If I find the answer, I will post it is well. I have extensively searched the forum for the answer to this, and have not found anything that worked. If I have missed something, I appologize.
Sort of works now, still have an issue
After going to the proxy tab, and checking that This network connects to the Internet and checking the check box that this network uses a porcy server to connect to the internet. Then specify the server. Then go to Advanced and change the HTTP port to 8080 instead of just 80. I also put the user id, password and Domain in on the proxy for HTTP.
But I get prompted for a user id and password from the proxy erveer. I have entered it and clicked the checkbox to save it. It does not display the same info that I entered the next time and it does not display what was entered on the HTTP proxy page. It is a drop down, and I can select the correct one. It's just annoying to need to. I'd like to clear this cache.
Also, to initially get it working I had to disable HSDPA and HSUPA, restart. Then reenable it. I have the registry on my Fuze which give me the menu option on the Advanced network tab to do this.
Figured out how to clear the cache issue - still prompts
The cache was a setting in Opera for passwords.
It still asks for the password. At least it is prefilled with the correct info, since I now only have the one entry, so it is just 1 click, but I should not need to do this step.
Any one know what I need to do to fix this.
If I try to load it in IE, it just tries but never succeeds and never asks for a password, just says Opening.
Connections
Why should I need to set this to connect to the Internet, and use the ISA server? I would think if it needs to connect to the internet, it should be able to just use the Media Net
My Media Net Settings are
Modem -
Name - Modem
Media Net - wap.cingular
Advanced shows the modem in the drop down list as Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G)
The drop down is disabled
Next
Access Point Nam - wap.cingular
Next
User name - [email protected]
don't know what the password is. I've never changed it.
Domain is blank
Next
TPC/IP
Use server - assigned IP address is selected
Use software compression and use IP header compression are checked.
Use slip is not checked and the checkbox is disabled
Servers
Use Servr Assigned addresses is selected
So DN,Alt DNS, WINS, and ALT WINS are disabled.
Proxy Settings
This network connects to the internet
This networks uses a proxy server to connect to the internet is not checked.
More info and additional question
Navigating to some intranet sites does not prompt me for the isa server.
such as http://machine/virtdir/Default.aspx
seems to work without being prompted
but
http://perforcemachine:8080/@md=d&cd=//&[email protected]//?ac=107&mx=25
prompts me for the password.
Also, in order to get either of these links to work, I need to have in my exceptions:
*.companyname.com/*
Where companyname is the actual companyname.
This is annoying because it makes it connect to the VPN when synching with the exchange server. Before I want on the quest to get these links to intranet sites to work, I synched with the exchange server without connecting to the VPN.
I've tried putting in isa.companyname.com in the exceptions, but that doesn't work.
Is there a way to do *.companyname.com/* except mail.companyname.com?
I suspect all of this is in the registry somewhere.

Questions Regarding Intenet/Settings

Hello i would like your assistance on 3 things
1) Which browser do you consider better (speed, stability, memory usage, able to play videos, audios, flash's,etc.) Iris, Skyfire, Opera? or some else i don't know.
2)I can't put hotmail on the Mail Tab of touchflo. Whenever i try to make a new mail account with hotmail it keeps opening Opera (this one I'm using atm) and redirecting me to hotmail page. Which i hate it. I want to be able to see my mail fast and easy from the Touch Flo Mail Tab, as i do with my gmail and yahoo account.
3)My computer is connected to the internet (Duh! you know that, I'm getting though to the point) and i use a proxy in my setting (proxy.forthnet.gr).
Now when i connect the phone with Active Sync the Connection in the phone when i go to tab proxy setting except the default check "this network connect to the internet ", every time it appears the check "This network uses a proxy server to connect to the internet" "proxy server : proxy.forthnet.gr"
This addition which i don't understand why its made in the phone and has nothing to do with my Phone/Carrier internet connection is not allowing me to connect to the internet (when i am not connected with the PC) and cannot update the weather or use opera etch. Is there a way so every time i connect my phone to my PC this proxy setting isn't embedded in the phones/carrier setting (proxy setting).
Thank you very much.

1) Speed-wise, Opera mini is hands down the BEST mobile browser. It is light, it is quick and it is just simply fast. However, if you want audio/video/flash/hulu I use Skyfire for that. It is incredible for watching movies or shows, but is somewhat of a pain to use because it's not vga-fitted (i dont think) and it sometimes hijacks my browsers back to the start page (slightly annoying). As for best mobile experience with your fingers, that award goes to opera mobile in my books. it's a great layout, great design, VERY finger friendly, awesome because it wraps text when you zoom in (none other browser to my knowledge does this ). Lastly, I also use Iris because it's just an all around good browser. It uses the same core as safari on the iphone. It's relatively quick, pretty easy to use and is almost as good as opera mobile in usability.
2) just forward it to a gmail account
3) i don't know much about using proxies with the fuze but i know there's an option to disable the proxy in tools via the start menu. give that a try after you connect via AS?

Proxy at work does not work on FUZE

I tried all the options but no avail:
Disabled proxy with builtin cab
Used Advance Config Tool & Diamond Tweak to disable 3g
Increase Power to WIFI
Enter the proxy credentials properly
Select WORK in the connections
I am connected to the network through the WEP key. I have an IP address.
But the thing the intrigues me the most is that I cannot hit outside with Opera or IE unless is the Intranet. BUT, I can hit my comcast email throught the email tabs>inbox>send receive. This email account is from the outside. How the hell? The network guy said that I have all the credentials properly entered and that I should be hitting outside throught the proxy. What gives?
Ok, so I got it to half of it to work.
Disabled proxy through CAB
Enter proxy credentials to "My Work Network"
Network adapters>card>"the internet"
SSID>Connects to>"work"
Applications that use internet connect with: My work network
I can connect to the internet outside now, but I cant update my email accounts that are in the outside. Only if I change my SSID to connect to the internet, then email works again, but internet doesnt.
Anyone that has gone through this crap please post something.
Thanks.
Well, I knew it was to soon to scream victory.
It now appears that I have to have IExplorer running in the background to be able to surf through Opera and use Google Maps. If I dont have IE open, then I get prompts from the proxy in Opera and Network problems in G-Maps. This is just too freaking weird. What shagging combination is going to make everything work!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Internet access over WiFi

Please tell me that I overlooked some obvious settings...
I have a home wireless network I use for my laptops. I configured the same network on my Fuze. It says connected, IP looks ok, I set DNS to OpenDNS, but I still cannot use IE, Opera, Skype or any other Internet application.
Now, Fuze is my first WM phone and I am not familiar with all the settings. Did I miss something?
Try disabling the proxy.
Start File explorer and go to Windows
Click on "Disable Proxy"
Then try it.
to turn proxy back on
click on "Restore Proxy"
(With the proxy off, you cannot use the AT&T links and apps)
I have not found these files. I use EnergyROM.
Nevermind, I just updated router firmware and the problem is gone.
