Hi guys, now something odd is going on with my MDA Compact IV (aka Touch Diamond). With the original T-Mobile ROM I could connect to Wi-Fi fine. When I upgraded to Dutty 2.6 ROM I could still connect fine but after a couple of weeks it stopped connecting for no reason I could see. When I mean it stopped connecting, basically, when I click the "Turn on Wi-Fi" option, the little spinny ball pops up to show you its trying to do something but then nothing - it stays unticked and there is NO error message. I have tried setting power mode to best performance and changing the wifi to connecting between "The Internet" and "Work" - the two options available (I think it used to work on the default Work settings) - but it still doesn't work. I just upgraded to Dutty 2.9 and it does exactly the same thing - no error message so I am not sure how I am supposed to diagnose the problem!
Anyone have any ideas? Any help would be much appreciated!
Hi,
I'm having the same issue with the same device.
I already reverted back to stock spl/rom/radio but the problem still remains in every rom i try.
The only solution is to get out the battery for at least 10 minutes and try again.
It should work until it stops again.
Thanks for the message, I just managed to fix it on mine about 5 minutes ago. In the end, I cleared my internal storage and hard reset it and it finally worked. That is after trying various ROMS/Radios. Lets see how long it lasts....
Hi,
I'm having the same issue now... It just started yesterday - And I have no clue - except, that I recently have used the device connecting my laptop using internet sharing...
Any clue someone? don't want to hard-reset...
Thanks!! J

I've been on a quest to find a rom where the wifi works. Every wm6 rom I've used, wifi shows the APs, it connects then disconnects soon after and the AP says unavailable, then it'll work again for a sec then disconnect. I read somewhere that a rom based on build 318 would work and someone gave the XDAr6 rom as a suggestion. Same thing. works fine in every WM5 rom, just none in WM6. Anyone have an idea why? Maybe I'm missing a step to get it working or something?
Hello. Install Battery Status, (I have version 1.04.203.beta4) and it has several tabs, one of which has a checkbox that disables the proxy if WiFi is enabled. I ran into this issue too when i first started playing with new ROMs, and was very frustrated until I found this nifty app, and best of all, it works with all the ROMS I've used. Enjoy, hope it helps.
I don't know why this fixed my Wi-Fi, but it did. I just got this phone a few days ago and I was having trouble since yesterday getting the WLAN to enable. I would click it in Comm Manager and nothing would happen. Something I did broke it.
Of course it still won't connect and says "Unavailable" whenever I try to connect to anything that was just a second ago "Available", but at least it's back to the way it was when I got it.
I just did a soft reset and only ran into this once
Try this when you get a chance...
Go into your registry and change the following settings
HKLM\Comm\TNETWLN1\Params
HTCPreloadStatus = 1
HTCPreloadWifi = 1
This solved my issue I had with Wifi after I reflashed my device a couple times to various WM6 ROMs.
For some reason the HTCPreloadStatus never sticks and always converts back to zero. But I was reading a thread and found this solution and it said to do both reg edits. The fix did work for me so I didn't question it.
Mine says "Available", then I enter the network key, and it says "Connecting" and then changes to "Unavailable". It has done this since I got the phone. Today I unlocked it all and upgraded to the latest T-Mobile ROM, and it still does this. I guess I'll keep going and upgrade to a WM6 ROM, but I'm afraid it still won't work then.
I have the same problem, but I can't find where is this registry. What is this, a file that I have to change or I open it from somewhere else ?
Hello,
i recently installed the htc custom rom (1.25.405) on my device. after install all was great, but after some time i began having trouble enabling the wifi from comm manager. whenever i press the wifi tab in the comm manger wifi keeps staying off. i had the same problem on my wizard and there the solution was enabling the wifi preload from the registry (HKLM->Comm->TNETWLN1->Parms). these string dont exist on the cruise.
does anyone know of a fix to this problem or how to enable the wifi preload on the cruise ?
Try your luck at HKLM\Comm\TNETW12511\Parms
Olioaglio
hey Olioaglio,
thanks for your replay. tried looking there already.
usually there were two strings needed changing:
HTCPreloadStatus-->dword, decimal 1 (standard 0)
PreloadWifi-->dword, decimal 1 (standard 0)
cant seem to find the equivalent inside \TNETW12511\parms.
Soulution found:
HKLM\Comm\TNETW12511\Parms\HTCPowermode=1
Seems like i spoke too soon. the wifi problem was resolved for a while and then came back.
i flashed the black widow skinny v.2.5 rom and again the wifi worked for a while until it stopped enabling (when i press the wifi button in the comm manager it will turn on and immediatly off). i tried flashing the bepe 0.65 rom and even the latest radio rom (1.58.25.14) but nothing helps.
does anybody have an idea ?????
Hi, I have the same problem; wifi is always disabled.
I tried to modify the key:
HKLM\Comm\TNETW12511\Parms\HTCPowermode=1
and it seems to work ... but after only 10 minutes, I tried, it is still disabled.
When I click on Comm.Manager to able Wifi, it load a few seconds and after it is still off.
ROM is 1.24.408.1 ITA, original.
Radio is 1.58.21.23, original.
Thanks
Yep, I had the very same problem from the beginning until I installed Bepe's Rom v.64. Then I installed Goodlink for work and that ruined it again.
Sounds to me like some software conflicts somewhere that need to get fixed...
Anyway, you can try Bepe's latest ROM. Just don't install that piece of rubbish called Goodlink.
Well it seems that it is indeed a program conflict, i have tried to disable each process running until i found the culprit, it was the Pocket controller loader, after disabling it wifi would disable without any problems, lets see how lost this will last...
would installling WMWifiRouter stuff up the wifi. I have a stock polaris and havent upgraded the rom. Wifi was working fine, even after I installed WMWifiRouter. Then after about a couple of weeks, wifi just would not come on at all. But strangely, then i tried to fire up the WMWifiRouter, it would go up to a point past saying "WLAN on" and then stop at "Waiting for ICS".
In the end, I had to hard reset but have been afraid to re install WMWifiRouter. I was using a .92 version i think but now it's payware and I havent got the new one either.
Jackinabox - how do I disable the processes like you did?
thanks
Hey arul,
you can download schap'sTaskmanger here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1700898

http://rapidshare.com/files/12973974/TaskMgrv2.7_WM2005_upxed.zip.html
thanks jackinabox. will give it a try.
Hello all,
does anyone solved the WiFi problem?
it seems to be a program conflict try to find the program that causes it by enabling the running program processes on your pda.
hmm thanks promissed new ROM update from HTC is really needed
I have some truly weird problems, would love to hear if anyone has encountered the same pain as I have.
The symptoms are:
In the comm manager the wifi suddenly refuses to switch on. When clicked the row greyes, a few seconds pass and then the row returns to status off. This problem will occur anytime. After the phone has been off for the night, after in use for a day or whenever. No pattern.
Soft resets never helps. Power off will help, but not necessarily at attempt #1. Hard resets will not necessarily help either (I have tried six times).
Device.exe crashed on me a few times after one of the hard resets. Manila.exe too.. this also intermittent. :/
So I'm thinking hw-failure here and the phone will go for replacement on monday, please let me know if you disagree or have any tips how to solve this. As I use wifi a lot this is crucial functionality for me.
I have seen similar problems for the Diamond where hw-failure seems the likely cause too. Please note that I have not tweaked the phone at all.
best, Robert
Well, as noone objected the phone is now sent back. Hopefully the new one will not have the same "feature".
cheers, Robert
Hi,

Thx

I have the same problem too. My wifi was firing fine until i used Wifi router v.6 (Bummer!). since then my Wifi refuses to fire up. Raphael forum does not have solutions, bt i could find a solution for a similar problem in Athena Forum < http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=387454&page=4>
is there a way to port this fix for Raphael?? sure, if comnex obliges!
Cheers!
I'm using Swtos ROM" WM6.1 WWE CE OS 20753, Build 20753 V0.5 Light" which is very stable & Very responsive (Superlative). but recently my Wifi refuses to turn on using Comm Manager/wireless manager. My wifi was fine until i used Wifi router v.6 (maybe!), since then my Wifi refuses to fire up & even Network configuration manager refuses to open up. I have re-flashed several Radio ROMs, OS ROMs, including the Stock ROM & yet no solution. This dosent seem to to be a HW problem but something to do with MAC address corruption.

Same thing happened to me. One day wifi worked fine and now it doesn't. When I try to turn it on via comm manager it does nothing. I'm using RRE with radio 1.12.25.19. I've tried flashing different radios and hard resetting my device. Has anyone been able to fix this?
I own a HTC One S with stock vodafone (gb) rom, rooted, ICS 4.0.3, Touch 4.0. As I see a lot of people have similar issues as mine, however, I wasn't able to find a working solution. So the problem is that the phone stopped being able to connect to wifi networks - no matter if secured or free. I tried to change the settings from dhcp to static, stll nothing. It goes through connecting>obtaining ip address>authenticating>saved,secure... in whatever order, and the cycle repeats over and over... Sometimes bars appear, blink and disappear again. I had no wifi problems until last night, when I went to a place with free wifi, and for the first time I could not connect to it. After that the issue continued at home. Restarting the router/phone don't work. Has anybody found a working solution?

Not a good solution but you could try a factory reset if nothing else works.
-Sent from my TMOUS HTC One S.-
-Stock/rooted 2.21 + 1.06s baseband-
-Hboot 1.06-
I rebooted the phone a few times (waiting 6 mins when off) without fastboot on and on the third time it started working. I hope this doesn't happen again... As I searched through the forums I saw a lot of people having similar issues mainly with dhcp.. hope there's a fix for that...
Problem appeared again... This time reboot isn't solving anything. When I put it on static IP it connects to the network and disconnects over and over again. This s*** is driving me crazy...
are you running a custom kernel?
No. It's stock. Recovery is CWM, phone is rooted via this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1577831
it could be the boot.img causing your issue. i rooted via this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1583427 and have never had a problem with wifi unless i had flashed a custom kernel
Well.. I don't know, because I haven't flashed a custom ROM.. Just rooted the stock one... Btw it started working again after like 10 reboots with no fastboot on, but experience tells me that it'll go crazy again...
you could also try flashing a custom rom, it might fix the issue
Today suddenly my wifi stopped working. It automatically switched to 4G. That has happened before so i tried accessing my wifi settings, but when opening wifi settings i saw a black screen and got the message that settings stopped working. I tried rebooting the phone about 5 times. I tried turning on and off planemode. Even combined that with the rebooting but nothing seems to fix it. Other settings are working fine, but they are really really slow. I am planning on doing a factory reset, but maybe there is an easy fix i didn't think about.
It is running on miui 13.0.1.0 global version. I live in the EU. The phone is almost a year old.
I hope somebody can help me with this problem.

If you haven't managed to "manipulate" the software, be it Rom, kernel or install unknown APKs, I think that the factory reset will not help, since it seems to be a hardware problem.
