Ive just updated to the modded rc30 on a uk handset, all seems to be working ok SO FAR apart from Myfaves.
We dont have Myfaves in the UK and my phone keeps sending sms messages to t-mobile Myfaves server. These arnet costing me anything but they all show on my bill (and my bill is now super long).
Ive tried uninstalling it from my phone within the apps section but i cant find the option.
Anyone got an idea of how to disable / uninstall Myfaves??
This would be a great help to anyone in the UK.
Cheers
Dave
*** Have just renamed Myfaves.apk and Odex, my phone stopped syncing data and i lost all my contacts ***
Looks like people in the UK will just have to put up with the SMS messages going onto the bill??
rm -r /data/data/com.tmobile.myfaves
rm /system/app/MyFaves.odex
rm /system/app/MyFaves.apk
That is why I'm just waiting for it to arrive on it's own.
Any other side-efects you've noticed?
we should have a post to show how to uninstall all applications just in case we install another IM program or something like that. I dont know about you all but I dont want 2 IM programs on my machine if I can uninstall the default one.

Thanks for the idea....
I renamed those files and it stopped my G1 synching with google.
Have had to rename them back.
I can't advise that its a good idea to put rc30 on a uk handset, no idea whether I will ever get it back onto a uk firmware.
Everything apart from this issue seems to be ok atm.
Will keep you posted if I get any issues, for now its nice to have all the things that the UK rc07 is missing.
This would be really bad...
Does this means, all G1 are doing this? What about the users who have a foreign Sim in the phone (like I use my G1 with a Hong Kong Sim).
kind regards

Well I just checked and it seems that it does. (I'm in Dubai, using Etisalat)
I restarted the phone and the log files shows that:
I/MyFaves ( 141): starting service with intent: Intent { comp={com.tmobile.myfaves/com.tmobile.myfaves.MyFavesService} (has extras) }
I/MyFaves ( 141): handleMessage(11)
I/ActivityManager( 49): Stopping service: com.tmobile.myfaves/.MyFavesService
I/MyFaves ( 141): starting service with intent: Intent { flags=0x4 comp={com.tmobile.myfaves/com.tmobile.myfaves.MyFavesService} (has extras) }
I/MyFaves ( 141): handleMessage(0)
I/MyFaves ( 141): sending msg: 16358279011485110001000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 to 453
I/ActivityManager( 49): Stopping service: com.tmobile.myfaves/.MyFavesService
I/MyFaves ( 141): SMSStatusReceiver.onReceive(extras: Bundle[{id=100}]; resultCode: 1); action: sent
I/MyFaves ( 141): starting service with intent: Intent { comp={com.tmobile.myfaves/com.tmobile.myfaves.MyFavesService} (has extras) }
I/MyFaves ( 141): handleMessage(11)
I/ActivityManager( 49): Stopping service: com.tmobile.myfaves/.MyFavesService
And again and again... I've been looking at logcat for 5 or 6 minutes and it's the second time I see it trying.. this really sucks.
My provider here is an ass and I'm pretty sure that I'm getting charged even for failed SMS to 453...
So I guess my only option will be to update to the "cracked" RC30 version to be safe and try to remove that piece of junk.
Guys, I think you should stick that high for everyone not using T-Mo to see or there will be some really bad surprise on some bill at the end of the month... I can't believe that **** app is so poorly written it can't check what network it's running on..
And that's why we need root! Thanks to everyone who makes it possible.
I think everyone who's not using a T-mobile sim needs to look into this ASAP.
If this service is constantly sending out text messages it could be costing people a fortune?????
In the uk people using US rc30 have these texts appear on the bill too, but having spoken to t-mobile they have told me that im not getting charged for them.
I dont imagine that would be the case for none T-mobile customers
Could anyone whos running a non t-mobile sim have a look into this and see if theyre G1 is sending these texts automatically as part of the MyFaves service, and if so are they being charged!!!
I tried deleting the apk and odex... it resulted in my contacts being deleted. Boy did that suck LOL... I am going to see what I can do... I have a tmobile sim and still don't like it cause I don't use myfaves.
Same happpened to me when I renamed it. I lost all my contacts and my phone wouldn't sync with google at all.
You think this could be a big problem for none t-mobile sims in the g1?
It could cost people loads if its constantly sending sms to another network.
Think we should get this thread renamed and stickied?
me either there may be a temp solution(but it still will take up space and you'll have to do it every time you turn on the device)
su
root first
ps
(this gives a list of all running services and applications)
then you use the PID number in this code
ex.
kill 1
up above is just an example its kill, space-bar, number(s)
Might save some money for the time being
(if no t-mobile)
dont know if it works try and let us know
(it will kill the service that much i know)

Doesn't work... the myfaves runs every n minutes
wow that was quick
I don't think we can just disable it or kill it, contacts dissapear and g1 won't sync anything if its stopped.
I assume this will be affecting everyone who has an unlocked g1 with a diff providers sim in?
If that's the case we really need this fixed asap and people need to be told about this.
Actually....If someone has asked t-mobile to unlock the phone, shouldn't t-mobile tell people that the phone does this?
Anyone any other ideas?
or get a UK OTA (I've read that there version doesn't have myfavs nor Amazon application)
Yes, the uk ota doesn't have myfaves on.
Don't know when a new ota will be out over here tho, we are getting no support at all from t-mobile at the moment.
People here (including me) have resorted to installing the US ota just to get some support.
Do we have a download link for rc7 anyway?
I'm happy to backup my rc7 g1 if this will help someone find a way round this.
Got a phone call this week with the uk t-mob android dev team (I threw a massive ***** fit at support), will ask them about a way roind this.....
Any update or workaround on this problem, there must be more users with a foreign sim card!
br

The open source build doesn't have myfaves. You could try building it, flashing it, and seeing how it works for you.
That would be nice, but I am far far away of being a profi in those things, I am happy that I was able to install the update for the modified RC30 on my G1.
I just think a lot of users with foreign simcards will have a bad surprise after the 1st month when they receive the invoice of the telco provider...
I do not need to sync, maybe someone can tell me how to rename those files, I only receive the msg "read-only" file-system.
br

FWIW, I just "cleared the data" in my faves (through manage programs) and it deleted all of my contacts.
Don't think this can be disabled/removed in any way

****UBER IMPORTANT NOTE****
It would appear that the fix I found described below seems to stop working after a day or so I haven't found any sensable way to way to get it back yet
I have left the rest of the post how it was incase you still want to try it or if anyone wants to work on it as for me I'm giving up on it for now and going back to APD1.1 (where latitude works anyway)
Sorry guys I really thought I'd cracked it sob
I have manged to to get it to keep the UK and German local settings so no xxx-xxx-xxxx format on numbers and things but the phone would show as a ADP1.1 Dev phone but if there are any people who are only on RC9 for the local and language settings who would like to keep them and have latitude and voice search I have that one sused just PM me if you want it. If enough people are intrested I'll do a write up on here but for now I want beer
<----Original Post---->
***NEW LINK IN (Thanks to LucidREM)***
Hi not sure if anyone else has worked this out I have read through as many posts as I could and haven't seen it anywhere else.
I can assure you that Latitude is in the RC9 update (I was one of the people who it didn't show up for), when I was reading throught the millions of posts on the matter I noticed that all the people who claimed it was there are all on networks outside the UK. I assume that if you have a MCC that is in the UK (or something simular) it is set somewhere simply not to show up. I guess T-Mobile UK think us Brits can't be trusted with letting our friends know where we are.
Anyway after giving you this sad news I have some good news. I know how to get it back (YEY) but more bad news its quite sloppy and it does involve a full wipe.
I basicly did a small bit of tinkering with the JF RC9 (hope he doesn't mind) I will add my version to this post if you want to do it quicky but also explain what I did if you want to try it yourself.
First with the origanal JF RC9 I opened the zip and added the lines below to the ADDITIONAL_BUILD_PROPERTIES section of the /system/build.prop file...
ro.setupwizard.mode=OPTIONAL
keyguard.no_require_sim=true
These options allow you to use the phone for the first time without a sim card and allow you skip the sign up to your google account screen (as obviously you won't be able to sign up without a simcard) These two options are standard in ADP and I just did a lazy man copy and paste.
Once you have done this you will need to replace the original in the zip with your nice new file. You will then have to resign your zip file there is a good guide how to do this on http://modmygphone.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-10591.html (again the amazing JF was involved in this tool)
Once you have done all that stick it on your SD card, call it update.zip, <--*take out your simcard*--> and wipe/update/reboot in the normal way.
When they No Sim Card Screen pops up press menu and it will take you to the sign into your google account screen. When you get to the bit where you can create a new account or sign in with your current account scroll down and there will be a nice skip button press that.
Next go into setting and connect to a wifi network once you are connected run any google app that connects to your account (gmail, IM, etc) this time put in your sign in details and wait for your address book and stuff to resync.
Next run maps and the Latitude info screen thing will pop up, press ok and then press the Join Latitude button. Once its all registered turn your phone off stick your sim back in and turn it back on and YEY Latitide will still be there. Install all your apps and set up your phone back up and happy days.
If you are not brave enough to make the changes to the JF RC9 update (or you just can't be arsed) I have attached the one I made below. Note I have removed the Amazon MP3 thing from this image as it only works if you live in the US and Shazam defaults to it and not Amazon UK if it's installed and that makes me a sad panda. As for voice search that isn't in RC9 at all, I will have a mess to see if I can port it from ADP or RC33 at some point.
Obviously I would like to thank JF for doing all the hard work in the first place hope he doesn't mind me fiddling with his stuff.
Hope you all find this post useful and let me know how you get on

***KEEP YOUR CURRENT USERDATA AND STILL HAVE LATITUDE*** (Thanks to TonyHoyle)
Perform prodecure as above to enable latitude.
Flash data.img from backup. Reboot. Do not replace SIM. Do not enter maps yet.
Using adb, Add the following to /data/data/com.google.android.apps.maps/shared_prefs/com.google.android.maps.MapsActivity.xml
<boolean name="FF_SHOWN" value="true" />
<boolean name="SHOW_MY_FRIENDS" value="true" />
(the second line will already be there - just modify it to 'true')
Now enter maps. Hit 'menu' and the Join Lattitute button will be there. Join, and it'll stay when you replace the SIM.
Like, WOW. I mean, erm, yeah, I was just about to do that, you beat me to it.
Nice work!
Kudos!
Havent tried it yet though
Hang on, you waited 3.5 years to make your first post?
Lol yeah I had a XDA something on O2 years ago but never had anything intresting to say about it Hadn't really been back since as after that broke I decided I would't get sucked into new mobiles and went back to a Nokia 3310. Then the G1 got me so tempted I joined the dark side again and now I'm toally hooked.
Nicely proven that it is a UK issue.
I wonder if it will be enabled across the board at some point. The only reason I can think of that TM would disable it is bandwidth usage. How much traffic does Latitude generate?
Can't see it been very much just a tiny bit of text sent to google every so often. No idea why T-Mobile wouldn't want us to have it they might think its a privacy issue us Brits tend to make a fuss over things like that. I could see the daily mail now 'New Google Phone Allows Government Track Every Step You Take'
Very true...
You mean something like this.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencet...Google-lets-track-friends-family-mobiles.html
That's a point, its available for other mobile handsets?
Obviously TMUK being £$%$s again!
They even block internal access to google.com / latitude!

LOL WOW well that just proves the point
And the greatest thing is, we'll never know why its not included. TMUK will blame google, and google will blame TMUK. So easy for them to do.
We should hunt the person who decided not to include it down and slap them.

Having tried voice search on the iphone, you're not missing much.. it's tuned to an american accent and comes up with some hillariously bad interpretations of british accents.. it's *way* quicker to type than try to pronounce the same thing 50 times with a vague american drawl... (although strangely I believe it fares quite well with the welsh accent).
As an experiment I enabled latitude then reflashed my data.img from the nandroid backup, and latitude vanished again... so it's a setting on the maps app itself somewhere.

I have a feeling you will have to set up all your apps and stuff from scratch and then back that up with nandroid. Once maps has stored the fact you shouldn't have latitude in your user data it wont appear even if you have no sim in. So as soon as you flash your old user data back it will vanish again.
I have tried it with a backup made with nandroid after my latitude fix and that works fine.
The maps app itself is identical to that in RC33 and ADP1.1 as far as I can tell, I think T-Mobile have done something in the framework to check if its a UK sim and if it is it writes something to your user data that stops latitude from working. This is a guess however I'm sure someone much smarter then me will be able to figure out where it is and remove it.
What finally worked for me to preserve my settings:
Perform prodecure as above to enable latitude.
Flash data.img from backup. Reboot. Do not replace SIM. Do not enter maps yet.
Using adb, Add the following to /data/data/com.google.android.apps.maps/shared_prefs/com.google.android.maps.MapsActivity.xml
<boolean name="FF_SHOWN" value="true" />
<boolean name="SHOW_MY_FRIENDS" value="true" />
(the second line will already be there - just modify it to 'true')
Now enter maps. Hit 'menu' and the Join Lattitute button will be there. Join, and it'll stay when you replace the SIM.
I'm not sure that all of the above is needed, but that combination works consistently for me.

Hi and thanks for solving this bloody annoying problem that has bugged me since I received RC9.
I have no problem doing what you suggested so thanks for that and for supplying the ready made up file (Thanks to JF also) but the only concern I have is the section I have quoted above.
It's the restart bit, can you give a clearer indication when to switch the handset off and did you just battery pull? I'm guessing it's when they update is finished and the phone switches off and just before it restarts just remove the battery? I just want to seek a bit of clarification really
Hope that makes sense

I am on T-Mobile, but my SIM card was in another phone when the RC9 update arrived.
When the update was complete, I had Latitude, and was able to play with it using WiFi.
I shut down my G1 to insert my SIM card, but after rebooting, Latitude vanished, and I was back to old Maps. :-(
So very annoying.

Anyone care to re-upload?

Can the RC33 JF build see copy-protected apps in the market place? I *think* it can, but I'm not 100% sure...
If it can, has anybody given any thought to running RC33 JF to legally buy and install copy-protected apps, extract them (since it's still rooted) to the sdcard, reflash ADP1.1, and install the extracted apps? I'd hardly consider it piracy by any means since I'm paying for the apps, and it'd give me BetterCut, some of the games, etc, on an ADP1.1 build... I know they wouldn't get updates from the marketplace with out the process being repeated, but, an initial version just might be worth the hassle... especially since all of the good free apps seem to be converting to "lite" versions of their former selves, with the new "paid" versions being the only ones to retain all the features of the original...
Im not sure if what i think is true but i thought that the app were linked to your gmail account so that if you switch phones or firmware you should be able to still download the program but im not sure someone correct me if im wrong

No offense but, you shouldn't be asking this if you're using adp. You should already know how and I doubt anyone will post the directions since it can be used to pirate/steal apps.
yes that would work (i have tried it myself) but if you want protected apps that bad you should just switch to rc33 and stay with it. there arent any real advantages to adp

Can anyone confirm that as well? A lot of apps have disappeared for me with ADP1.1 and I'm considering redoing the phone to a rooted RC33. Is the rooted RC33 also detected and blocked from seeing these apps?

i thought the whole thing with the DevPhone release was an unlocked (root'd) version to develop apps etc .. so with JFs RC33 we HAVE the access to do anything we want and therefore do not really need ADP
it seems as tho for 98% of the population we don't have a real need for the DevPhone side of the G1
I never had paid-for-apps removed from my purchase ability when using ADP. *shrug*
So in a rooted 33, I could still see the same pay-for-use apps. With that being said...I don't know if there are any issues with paying for the apps, backing them up, and then using them on the same phone with ADP. You aren't stealing or sharing as you are still using it on the same ONE physical phone you purchased them on. Of course, do make sure there are no EULA/TOS agreements you have to "sign" or have "signed" stating that you will not do this...
i've put rc33 on my dev phone, and paid apps started showing immediately.
I have a rooted UK G1 with RC9 in Denmark. Had it for about a week now, no paid apps yet :-(

I *think* you need to be running both a non ADP image AND use a SIM card from one of the Android Market enabled countries (US/UK). RC33/RC9 won't be enough as long as your SIM is a Danish one.
I might be wrong, I hope I am, but unfortunately I think this is the way it is.

Does anyone not have a sim card - though in a market enabled country?
I've found the following in the source;
Code:
#
/**
#
* Indicates if Vending Machine requires a SIM to be in the phone to allow a purchase.
#
*
#
* true = SIM is required
#
* false = SIM is not required
#
*/
#
public static final String VENDING_REQUIRE_SIM_FOR_PURCHASE =
#
"vending_require_sim_for_purchase";
When I was skimming for some things and found out what database it was located it. If someone would like to try flipping the value from true to false and seeing if it works - I can send you directions.
For those who can still buy apps on ADP1 it's b/c those app aren't protected. You essentially have 4 types of apps:
Free - Protected
Free - Unprotected
Paid - Protected
Paid - Unprotected
ADP can't see anything that's PAID - Protected (not sure about Free - Protected).
For instance ADP can't see aHome (Paid for version) or any of the CapcomMobile games.
This is what I found anyway after moving to ADP today.
Thanks,
Derek

I have the same phone, and just rooted it this weekend. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=485364 Here's the post that helps you do it. I used the terminal emulator on my phone to get the CID, used Qmat to reverse the CID, replaced the first 2 chars with 00 and used the online goldcard creator. You then use the RC7 and you go through the steps and you're rooted. I now have JF 1.43 RC9 on my phone, and curious if I can go to RC33 without problems. (Just hope I don't get myfaves and the probs that can come with it.)

RC33? why not tahe ADP 1.1h? I think it will save you all the myfaves trouble..
I wanted to have the ability to purchase apps from the market, and adp1 doesn't have it. (Piracy issues, but the same issue exists in rooted phones in general)
here you can find an instruction on german if needed

i got the same problem like you: cant accept incoming calls and cant hang-up the phone after a call started by me.
it's rlly annoying and t-mobile customer care got no idea what it could be
(strange, then in europe a lot of ppl got the same problem)
use JFs RC9, it has paid apps and no myFaves.
RC33 can cost you a fortune due all the automated SMS it sends to the USA...
Is there some way on the phone to see if it has sent/ is sending messages? I am now using JF's 1.42 RC33 and have no problems whatsoever. No myfaves showing up, and I know all themes work with it. Plus, I get voice dial, and amazon mp3 and voice search. If I am sending out messages, I have no choice but to switch back.

Unfortunately I don't actually read/speak german, I'm un the USAF stationed here. (I am planning to learn, I've only gotten here a few months ago and started a training class as soon as I got here.)
Hello Developers. Non-developing embryo here, with a question. First, an abbreviated background. I am in Ireland, originally from NY, and was given a Verizon Motorola Droid XT912 (now running JB 4.1.2) by my 93 year mother who was compelled to buy it but, of course, never could sensibly use it. When she sent it to me, I found that unlocking was unnecessary - a foreign SIM card and thesomewhat annoying but less than occasional 'unknown sim' notification, followed by my 'ok' was enough to get it to work fine. Being a US phone, it was set up for US phone numbers - I get around this by putting the +353 in front of all my contacts - no problem. However, when someone calls me, their local number shows up without the +353, and if I miss the call and just click on the number to call back, the phone automatically puts the +1 0 (for USA) in front of the number, and naturally the call doesn't work. Not the end of the world, but annoying. I figured I would see if rooting the phone could get me to the file where this +1 is indicated so I could change it to +353. I have rooted the phone, backed up all with Titanium backup (got rid of a lot of VZ garbage) but have no idea about how to locate the file in order to change the text. I'm hoping that someone here has an idea of how to do it. Be reminded that my mother is 93 - which makes me, um, older, so, please be kind. Thanks for any suggestions that anyone has.
By the way, if anyone has suggestions of any additional Moto/VZ applications that are listed in Titanium that, being in Europe, I'll never use, I'd appreciate that as well.

Hello Developers. Non-developing embryo here, with a question. First, an abbreviated background. Please install a stock ROM of your locality/region. Search the "RAZR HD Android Development" thread for the ROM. Also search youtube for "HOW TO INSTALL <rom> RAZR" videos. when you are confident enough, start with the process!
example) I am from Asia and we have no JellyBean here, I installed "XT910 European Retail ROM" with help of a Development thread and a video "how to install jellybean xt910" in youtube.
The steps are to be done carefully. Also make sure to install drivers before you start!
this will get you out of all issues!
Ah, thank you. I have begun to read the procedure here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1955447
Frankly, this is well beyond my capability and confidence. I imagine it is just easier to having to live with a small work around regarding the callback prefix. I was hoping that this would be more like a Linux procedure, where such a directive would be found in an etc or configuration file, and only needed to be edited. I shall keep studying, but I imagine that my ignorance and the risk involved far outweighs the inconvenience of a call back number.
Thanks again for your response.
Hello xda-guys, devs, user and everyone else.
Since I got an Android phone, i startet to love it and still up today I can't imagine to have another mobile OS. When I swapped a few years ago to a MVNO, the pain begun:
When using your Android phone with a MVNO, it is saying that you are roaming. So you have to activate "data usage while roaming", get a lot of annoying warnings and if you live near a border, you can look forward to a very high phone bill.
This issue is only on Android, no Windows phone, no iOS, not even and unbelievable old Nokia does have this problems!
The problem is (well?) known at google since 2009 (!!!) and all over the world, but google is ignoring it:
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=3499
Unfortunately, most people around the world don't even know that this is a problem! Even the manuals from the MVNO's are saying that you just have to activate data usage while roaming, altough they know that this can rise your bill when you live near a boarder... (Or do they want exactley that?!)
I love my Android, but without any hacks or rooting to solve this problem, it is useless!
I don't want anymore to be forced to root my phones and search for a hack, patch or anything else when there is a new version.
Only Samsung implementet it in their firmware which solves this problem. But it can't be that I need to use only Samsung phones in the future?
With upcoming root "problems" of Lollipop and also ART it is getting more difficult to find solutions for that problem.
Maybe here on XDA, there are more people haveing the same annoying problem and are maybe also as fed up as I am about that problem.
So there is my question, what can we all together do, that this problem will be solved once and forever directly by google?!
I can't imagine that this is taking more time then two days of coding by one person sitting on the right place...
Sorry for my bad english and I hope that there are many other people like me sitting there and are also as fed up as I am about that problem. If i start to think about it, I would like to throw my phone away and start useing my brick old Nokias again.... I just can't understand why this problem isn't fixed since years...
PS: If I posted this in the wrong section, I'm sorry. Please move it then to the right section.
Seems that the national roaming issue isn't annoying anyone other?
This is definitely annoying me. My Xperia T had support for my MVNO built in, but my Huawei didn't until the last update (EMUI 3 beta). Xposed framework stopped working after an update, so I couldn't use the National Roaming plugin anymore. I was forced to enable roaming and download an app called network status notification. That way I could at least see if I was using 2g or 3g.
I have no idea how we can ask Google to do something about it, but if someone here on XDA can fix it, why can't Google fix it?
PS: EU roaming option would come in handy too
National roaming improved

i use the app from this site
https://blog.sprinternet.at/2013/12/android-roaming-statusicon-entfernen-inlands-roaming-mvno/
it works great for me!
it is open source but i don´t know how build apps... if somebody knows how to do the app is more then 1 year old but it works on lollipop and kitkat!
you only need root! no xposed!
direct link to the .apk
http://www.sprinternet.at/uu_wiki/MVNOroaming.apk
Thank you for this tip! I've searched a lot and found only script based solutions or the way via the xposed framework -which I actually do not need!
I'll try this in the evening.
But unfortunately, there is still no solution from google or without root...
That Google ignores it is unbelievable, but due the fact that I have root tyrol made my day with this tipp
