I`ve got a T-Mobile MDA with WM6 and I cannot access the internet through WiFi. The access point that I connect to is working cause I am able to access the net fine on my laptop. I made sure that my network cards are set to connecte to the internet. I even did a softreset after I made the changes.
My internet explorer just sits there on locating. I am not sure if its just my WiFi card configured incorrectly within WM6 or if its a reg setting that isn't set right.
If anyone had this issue before and got it fixed let me know or give me some direction to start.. thanks in advance for your help.
This is a fairly common problem. For me disabling the Wireless G option in the registry did the trick:
Registry: HKLM\COMM\TNETWLN1\PARMS
Key: dot11SupportedRateMaskG
Value: 1
so I diabled it, soft restet, verified that the reg change sticked, which it did. I tried to access the net again with no go.
me too
I have the exact same problem.
Not much discussion about this
I tried the G fix. Didn't work. Funny thing. It started when I installed MB. Downgrading DIDN'T fix it.
Try setting the the Network Card to connect to "The Internet" instead of "Work"
they are set to that..
That actually worked for me. (The Internet instead of work fix) I also made sure that all the boxes for "Server assigned IP address were checked. I could have sworn I tried that already. I wonder if it will stay "fixed". I'm due for a soft reset...seems to be working. I've been thinking all along it was some stupid setting.

check the change your dns to 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2 this may fix your problem

Changing to Internet and setting the DNS doesn't seem to help. Funny thing is, GMail via Midlet Manager seems to work (maybe its doing GPRS?). But IE just spins at Locating...
wifi internet issue on wm6
although i have the older version of t-mobiles' mda (wm5), i had similar issues connecting to the net even it sees a lot of wireless aps. either i cannot hold a steady connection or cannot connect at all. the solution i had was changing the channel on my wireless ap and updating my mda's parameters for my local wireless security. now i can go to the web using my mda even with poor signal quality. It is possible that you have several wireless ap's at your location sharing the same channel. hopefully changing the channel solves your problem.
simple possible solution, but check the proxy settings? I know with cingular, many people had trouble browsing the internet due to the MediaNet proxy settings. they removed the proxy settings and everything was fine then.
There is a known issue with your rom your running...there has been a new release. check the MB thread and you will see a recent listing about a 6 and 4 mb page pool, the wifi has been fixed.

I have the original MB edition and I do not have any wireless problems. I know he had to fix the re-released versions as the wifi did not work with them initially, but I was unaware of a wifi problem with the initial release.
WIFI problem don't even see networks
Hey everybody, still loving this phone and its diversity, but have flashed this little piece of hardware with the mb 4mb/6mb wm6 rom only to find that WIFI can't even be turned on!. And yes I've downed the fixed versions from a certain forum. When I turn on WIFI, It just gives the symbol in the top straight away. It just can't find the networks. I even manually added a network, it then tries to find it, but simply can't. WEIRD hey.
Is there a solution for this problem, cause I really, like the look and feel of the wm6 roms over the wm5 roms.
bye all and thanks in advance for the kind replies.
Did you try using WiFiFoFum at all to see if it can find networks? I have not had any issues with WiFi with the Most Beautiful edition whatsoever. Only thing I notice is that when the machine first turns on or right after a soft reset that I need to click the comm manager icon for wifi twice before wifi will turn on. Otherwise it finds and connects to networks perfect.
Problem with MIE
i have no problem to connect to my homenetwork with WIFI, but i cannot access the internet with the internet explorer. but it works perfect with the opera browser!
hmmm..
It's weird...
I never access the internet with the internet explorer even my wifi was connected successfully while I brushed wm6 rom.
A miracle has happened Today.
I install a WIFI Device for WM5, that one is simple Chinese language.
I tried to turn on the wifi but not work.
Then I uninstall it -> restar....
Then I tried one more time to turn on wifi, ok, it's work to connect but still can't open the web page.
I check the wireless lan, switch the power save mode to best performance.
Then....I can open web page????
Wow~~ I don't know it work cause the wifi device change something or just swtich to best performance.
Maybe you guys can try.
(Sorry to reading my poor English)

Same exact issue. Pocket IE doesn't work, Opera does. Did you figure it out or get it corrected yet?
oops, double-posted
Phone: HTC Wizard (T-Mobile MDA)
Current Rom: X-Plore 2.0
Radio: 2.19.11
Network: T-Mobile USA
Since upgrading to X-Plore 2.0 I am able to use Netfront, Internet Explorer, SMS, and MMS. But programs like Pocket IRC, the FTP client within Total Commander, and things like that won't connect to the net. I have verified that my settings are correct, So I donot understand what is occuring. All these worked perfectly before the upgrade but now donot at all. Unfortunately I donot have a Data Cable any longer to try and see if it was merely the rom or something else.
Please someone help!
This includes Windows Live (not connecting). I don't get it, why are browsers connecting but not my apps?
Okay just tried a hard reset. Still No Bueno.
If this helps:
Programs That Do Connect:
1. IE
2. NetFront
3. Opera (loaded only to test if it would connect)
4. SKTools (When it connects to see if there are updates available)
5. Tweaks2K2.Net (When it connects to see if updates are available)
Programs that DONOT connect:
1. PocketIRC (Keeps acting like it kind find a server to connect to just jumps from ip addy to ip addy trying to connecy)
2. Total Commander FTP Plugin (Says ''Username not accepted; Offline'' And that is on multiple FTP's including XDA'S!!)
3. Windows Live
Now I have verified my settings in connections and the fact that my browsers will connect shows me its able and is connecting and browsing the net. Please guys what could it be???? Thanks in advance!
And you are using GPRS ?
My WindowsLive is working ...i did not tested the others you said, but i am sure that Windows Live is connecting....except now, it won't work neither from my PC, that's M$'s bad not mine...
Mabe it's the connection or data plan. Are you sure that it worked before..or you changed data plan meanwhile ?
Yeah It worked before and I have not changed my data plan. If I recall it worked after the upgrade for a short while. Its been occuring for about a week now. Its bloody frusterating because my browsers all work, I can browse the internet, and do all that good stuff. I just cannot get things like PiRC & Total Commander to connect to the net. Even after a hard reset...Nothing. Could T-Mobile be blocking these apps? Of course once again that would not explain why NetFront and Opera, Sktools and Tweaks2k2 can connect. I am about to install OZ IM ill let you know if it works. Question though, Is there an alternative to using T-Mobile USA's 216 Proxy? Maybe a better one? Cuz maybe if I change the proxy to a non-T-Mobile one they won't be able to block it anymore..... Hmmm its an idea.
and sure enough OZ IM Connects its the one I found in the Ext. Rom
Yeah its gotta be a T-Mobile issue cuz all the programs that DONOT connect via GPRS/Edge connect perfectly via WIFI. Why would T-Mobile do that and is there a way around it?
Okay so I called T-Mobile and they deny doing anything of the sort. Which is good and bad. I am also getting a nice little messege in both WIFI and in GPRS when trying to download anything that states "This device is restricted from downloading this file type" when trying to download anything from the net. Any ideas?
Edit: I also called HTC and they said that there are no settings in the phone that would cuase this occurence which is bull becuase umm yeah....Anyway HTC tech support or at least every one of them that I talked to is for crud. Not very good support those guys.
Which data plan do you have? The $29.99 Internet one or the $5.99 T-zones one. If you only have the $5.99 plan, t-mobile filters a lot of the traffic that isn't on specific ports (ie port 80 for http works, but many other's won't) which causes some programs to not get network access. There were some proxies that allowed you to get around those, but a lot of them aren't working anymore last I heard.
If that's the case, probably your only solution is to pay for the full data plan which includes all ports internet access.
See the only reason I donot suspect the Data Plan being the issue (yes I have the 5.99 T-Mobile Web Plan, formely the $2.99 T-Zones) is because programs like NetFront and the like are connecting without issue. However I DO Suspect its a setting of some sort within the phone. I am going to try a level 2 Hard Reset (the one done with the combination of buttons) and see what happens. I tried a level 1 hard reset (The clear storage) to no avail. The level 2 hard reset will hopefully wipe it.

I am in the same boat as you. With my tinkering I found that programs automatically connect to the connection called "The Internet" which there is no way I can edit.
It connects to this "The Internet" automatically even when I set it to connect to my Proxy setting connection in Settings>Connections>Advanced tab on the bottom>Select Networks. Could that be the problem?
Okay after my Hard Reset 2 (the combination of buttons, I was finally able to get to download programs again, however I am back to having a 1MB download limit. And in answer to your question yes I have the same thing even though I don't have a connection called ''the internet'' other thing I have noticed is that the connection ISP does not allow for the assigning of a proxy server. Even though you can just make a new connection and assign a proxy server to that new one. This however does not circumvent our little issue. Nor does it get rid of my 1MB dl limit. Anichulis do you know how to change programs defualt connections away from Internet and assign them to use GPRS?
Hey This issue, is still occuring any ideas?
Hi, i got a massive problem with the new skyfire version for winmob.
Everytime I start this fu...ng browser it uses the GPRS connection without any questions!!
one of my first steps was to disable the date connection on my HTC HD2, even with bsb tweaks, but nothing helps in this case. the other bad news is that this bull**** of app has got only one configuration possibility -> delete cookies, nothing else..not even a default connection type etc.
has someone tried this this browser or got some solution for my problem?
thanks
Uses GPRS connection before asking? What are you wanting it to do?
Mine works fine if I have 3G it uses that if not GPRS if WiFi is connected it uses that. I don't see a problem.
Or are you after an Opera Mini like experience where you get asked before it connects to the internet? For me this seems utterly pointless seen as the ONLY reason I can think of for you to open a browser is to go to the internet?
Am I missing something?
If Skyfire can sort out their scroll lag it would be hands down the best winmo browser on the market in my opinion.
try this.
- uninstall skyfire
- turn off gprs or set connection to my ISP
- turn on WIFI
- install and launch skyfire
Very good player, no question but I just payed 15€ without knowin´about this for being connected by GPRS :-(
my problem is that I got Wifi but it still connects to GPRS without any permission.
And yes the scroll lag is pretty bad, but also the zoom opertion with this smal window.but it´s the first version. waiting for update
just as a thought...
When I'm using WiFi I run through the following in order to be sure that it will use WiFi not mobile web.
1. Go to settings > Wireless settings and turn on WiFi
2. Wait for the WiFi to be fully connected (important!)
3. Turn off the data connection
4. Start whatever app you intended to use
I've even had opera trying to use mobile web when I've got WiFi on so this is how I ensure it.doesn't end up using it. Hopefully this will work for you and skyfire too.
cheers,
prime.
Hi All, I have a question I'm hoping someone might be able to help me with.
I have a Nexus S i9020A running CM 7.0.2 on AT&T. I've noticed something strange lately and can't quite pinpoint the problem.
I'm running a server at my house with a no-ip address to access my tv show downloads. I'm able to access this from the browser (any browser) while connected to wireless (in my network, or out) but only intermittently while on cellular data. When it isn't working it simply keeps trying to connect until it times out. I haven't yet recognized a pattern of when it works vs when it doesn't.
I thought for a bit it might be a DNS issue, but even with the straight IP address it won't load. Funny thing is, I'm still able to SSH into my router using ConnectBot, so I know the address is correct and the phone can see it. Other apps like RDP won't work either while I'm having this issue.
It's not the end of the world, but it sure is annoying. I'd like for it to work whenever I need it. Any ideas?! I'm stumped.
Thanks everybody!
Tim
I know nothing about networking, just so you know. It sounds like you know much more. I will offer a guess. With some other phones than the ns, sprint has multimedia proxies set for when you are on their network. Streaming music works on wifi but not cell. Use the msl to get into settings, ##data# is the code for sprint phones, and I forget what they are called but there's two proxy addresses and ports that need to be zeroed out then reboot in order to get streaming to work. This is probably not a solution for you but I thought I'd offer something since nobody else has chimed in yet for suggestions.
RS something or another. The other setting is always right next to the first one and generally at the bottom of the list of settings. It could be in advanced or multimedia. Different places for different phones. It would be wise to write down the default addresses and ports before changing them in case it doesn't work or breaks something. It usually doesn't though.
Hey herb, thanks for the response. I see what you're saying, but I don't think it applies here. I know I made it sound like I was streaming or downloading music through the phone...my mistake. What I actually meant was that I'm accessing a web site running from my house to control my home machine downloading music. It's nothing complicated, I'm just sure I'm explaining it terribly.
But, essentially it's just a regular old web page. It's just very strange that it would work wireless and not over cellular. They do run on funky ports, so that they're blocking or redirecting some stuff is very possible. Annoying...
I've searched, and all I found was the trick to *#*#4636#*#* then cypher off, radio off, radio on, cypher on
... which doesn't work.
Here's my issue: The market works.
I mean, it only works on Wifi. If I turn off wifi, or head to a location without wifi, and I try to access the market it gives a data connection error - same with other apps. I have no idea why, but only certain ones are affected.
For example, on 3G/4G, I can get onto the Internet using the standard web browser, or browse, google+, facebook, twitter, etc, all just fine, quick as ever. but try to open the Market and it times out waiting for a response? try again on Wifi, and it takes no time at all to pop up.
Here's where it gets really weird. I've noticed that HTTPS causes a lot of slowdowns on my APN, I noticed it with my previous cellphones, going to HTTPS sites, and it's an order of magnitude slower, which, if the Market (and others) are using SSL, could cause the issue, especially if their timeout is shorter than the browser - but the weird thing is, Twitter is setup to use HTTPS always, and it does not seem to take very long to get updates from the server when refreshing my feed.
I'm confused. I just want the Market to work whenever I need it to.
Any ideas?
