Trying out some complex "homescreens" got me in trouble with the start menu.
Restarting my S730 I found out that start menu was simply empty: no icons no text.
After a while experimenting and google-ing (did not found anyone fixing the problem... someone simply did an hard reset...) I succesfully fixed the problem editing the registry:
I browsed to the key
HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Shell/Rai/:MSStart
and renamed all contained values named BKBitmap* (I do not love deleting registry values/keys..) adding some leading char.
Then restarted the device.
Hope this will help someone there out....
You renamed all contained values named BKBitmap* with what name?
Did you use a program for editing the registry?

looking at "\windows\startup" folder will solve the problem if I understood right

I thought so, too, but nothing about the missing .exe file is listed/mentioned in the windows\startup directory. :?
Did you check the contents of the links? Maybe one of them leads to the missing exe.
If not, get a registry editor (like PHM) and check the content of the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Inint key.
BUT BE CAREFUL!
Deleting the wrong value from this key will lead to hard reset!
Get hold of a copy of MemMaid. http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=14279
It will work under evaluation for 30 days.
When you have it installed, look at the "Notification Queue" - in here are the tasks that are started when a particular event occurs - such as waking up from suspend mode.
Thanks for the info, guys! I wound up hard-reseting it, anyway - I had played with a lot of different software and had a lot of "remnants" on it, but knowing where to look in the register and learning about memaid will be useful later.
Thanks again...

Alright, I'm at my wit's end here. I've been trying to port over some of the AKU 3.3 files directly from the tmobile WWE rom. Everything is working flawlessly except I cannot get the phone panel to close when I press the X. I'm not sure if it has to do with the ringtone player or not. I've changed the phones settings dll to the one in the crossbow rom and the reg settings check out. It's frustrating as all get out because I'm close to having this thing ready to release. Thanks.
Make sure the ringtone plays if not it will not close.... Fix that problem and it will probably work (make sure the tone is in the right place, make sure the registry points to \windows\. If you want to store them on your card just create a folder called, My Documents. And inside that folder create a folder called My Ringtones. Put your tones in there.
I does play. That's the thing. Also, it seems as if the interface has a problem. When I hit "open speed dial" after hitting the menu button, it gives me the settings-services page.
You may be on to something as the ringtone will not change. I wonder if this is hard coded into the registry somewhere. I'll have to check around.
Bump. This is driving me up the wall.

In the kitchen thread I posted the MediaOS files. I'd suggest either verifying that all the files are there - or just replacing the whole set.
Did you find any final solution?
I'm facing the same problem with my Trinity ... even the MediaOs folder replace didn't work out!!!
Yes, this was a result of the DRM modules being included in the OEM folder while cooking along with the registry settings. You'll have to look at the folder but all modules related to lsmoa must be removed along with the registry settings referencing those modules. Good luck.
when i press the x at the top, programs don't close anymore... it's still in the task manager. i changed the settings to close without holding but it still rmains in the task manager after closing it. how do i fix this?
edit:
also i have throttlelauncher installed and as my today screen. and recently hard resetted-this didn't happen before the reset.
also another problem i'm having is trying to make xml files open through a notepad program so i can edit'em by clicking/tapping on it. tried to assign it to shamasis's notepad program using advanced config but when i click the xml file it has an error:
"The file 'vars' cannot be opened. Either its not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found...."
is there another way to associate xml files with a different program?
This problem is usually caused by today's theme, remove the throttlelauncher, that can help you.
oh... well i'll just have to deal with it. soo can anyone tell me how to associate a program to xml files? tried advanced config.
i took off throttlelauncher from the today item but it's still not fixed......
Hey there,
I got a Samsung Omnia 7 with Telekom Branding and a serious problem. I cannot access the registry of my phone anymore with any tool. WP7 Root tools and the registry editor from TouchXperience keeps crashing.
What I been doing is trying to add a new accent color.
I first went to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel\Themes] and then in the folder which contains the theme names. I have created there a correct Dword entry and called the name "grau".
Well, then I switched into [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel\Themes\0\Accents] and wanted to add there another accent color with the index number 11. I was looking for the hex values on my PC while my phone screen got locked.
After unlocking it again, I couldnt access any of the tools anymore.
Also when I go into the control panel -> design (where you can choose light/dark background and accent color) it just kicks me out of the menu.
I dont know what I should do, I need something which lets me access the registry somehow or an app which could remove the key...
Any help is greatly appreciated
You can do write-only registry operations in a few ways, but one of the easiest is to use provxml. Download the Interop Unlock XAP from the Dev&Hacking sub-forum and open it in 7-zip (the built-in Windows ZIP explorer won't work for this). There's a .. folder. Navigate it up to ..\..\..\..\.. or so, then there's a provxml folder. Open it, and there's a file inside. Edit that file. It'll have some registry write commands in an xml format (wap-provisioning, you can read about it on MSDN if you want). Put the registry commands you want into the file and save it back into the XAP archive. Then, follow the normal steps for interop-unlock on a Samsung phone, except don't install the original app (deploy your modified version). This will process the provxml and make the registry changes.
Note: provxml can be used to delete registry values as well as create or modify them. This is a great way to undo partial jobs like adding a new theme that isn't supposed to be there.
Thanks a lot for your reply.
It worked out. I removed all those broken keys.
I had done loads of registry changes and a bunch of tweaks for the phone, at the end I did a hard reset.
I'll wait for tools the next time
Hi everyone,
I was recently experimenting with my LG Quantum, trying to add another theme instead of the two that are already available. I know you can just change the values of one of the existing themes, but I wanted to keep both of the other ones. Anyways, I was using the Registry Editor app (not sure whose it was), and trying to add a key called "2" to HKLM\ControlPanel\Themes. It kept deleting when I refreshed the Registry Editor, so I decided to go into MFG and create the value HKLM\ControlPanel\Themes\2\BaseThemeColor. I then tried to go into the Registry Editor application to see if it had created the Key. But the registry editor didn't open. So I restarted my phone and everything works fine...except none of the applications that have been installed will open. I've tried reinstalling them and downloading different applications that I've never had. Nothing works.
Also, in settings, under the theme, it usually says the name of your current accent color. Now it doesn't say anything, so I'm pretty sure the problem has something to do with the new key that's been added to HKLM\ControlPanel\Themes. I can't delete the key either because the MFG application and Registry Editor won't open... I have no idea what to do.
Any ideas?
Thanks for your help!

EDIT: push notifications from applications work, I just got one.

Time to reset the phone.
Settings
then select about.
Then scroll down and select Reset Phone.
You will need to reinstall things and reconfigure your email accounts.
Use the same Windows Live ID and you will be able to reinstall everything without repurchasing.
that's what I was dreading... I'll just restore it in Zune. So it's not too far away from what it used to be.
LET THIS BE A WARNING FOR EVERYONE WANTING TO ADD ANOTHER THEME.... DONT DO IT
