error using slick messenger on sprint htc touch - General Topics

hello. I have downloaded the program slick messenger to use for aim and yahoo. what I liked about it is the file transfer feature. now the problem I am having with my phone is that it does not allow me to select the keyboard to write or reply to messages. everything else works though. I was able to setup my accounts using the on screen keyboard it only happens at the point of sending. I receive the IM without a problem and I can receivable files. I can also send files and smiley as long as I don't have to send text it works. I did notice that when I click the button on the screen to pull up the keyboard it does not highlight like the others. any ideas?

quick questions using Messaging in WM2003 on XDAiis

Hi There,
more questions I'm afraid
1. Is there any way to remove the 'outlook e-mail' (activesync) off completely on the XDA - i don't use activesync to sync mail at all - I use POP3 and it really annoys me that when I press the messaging button, I have to switch to a different mail / SMS account
2. For some reason, if i include an apostrophe (') in my text message, the message length instantly shortens to 70 from 160 - does anyone else's do this - how can I stop it. Update - tried turning UNICODE off which solved the shorter messages, but now 's come out as ?s
3. Whenever I send a multi-message sms (usually by accident because of the above) my recipient just recieves a single blank SMS - any ideas?
Cheers Guys!

I have the same problems as you (1 and 2, but not 3)
1) I don't think you can remove the ActiveSync Outlook E-mail or change the default messaging. I tried this a had to do a hard reset!!!
2) Not sure about the apostrophe (') thing, I think it must be something to do with the fact that because it used the auto text it takes up more spaces in the text message. You can delete it but it does take longer. I just use the typing prompt which shows you possible words for your current selection and this avoids the auto apostrophe.

Hi Nigel
Thanks for the Advice - I tried changing this to "Text Messages" and just "Text" but this doesn't want to work - any ideas?
Thanks
OK, close the messaging app (completely) from settings --> system --> memory --> Running Programs.
Then goto Settings --> Personal --> Buttons, and change button 4 from messaging to some other program. Tap OK, use the messaging button to start that other program, quit said program, go back into Buttons, and change button 4 back to messaging. Try to launch messaging.
It much cache the old info somehow.

Nice one, that worked a treat!
I'll remember that one from now on!
Thanks,
Dom
annoyingly, not working for me yet
@XDADOM - what did you write for the account/service name?

The apostophe problem is a bug that HTC are working on...I've got an XDA2 with 2003SE and I have the same issue!

do u have ce-star installed? if so that is your problem...try uninstall and the problem should go away...! cheers!
no i dont have install ce-star.
Anybody else have this problem or find a solution?
I have a 100% bone stock AT&T Fuze that recently developed this exact problem. It's receiving SMS & email, and you can preview new ones through Manila/home screen, but pressing INBOX gets you nothing. It registers the touch, but the actual messaging app doesn't load. You can't load it from home, via the start menu, or the programs menu. Resetting the phone fixes the problem for a while, then it breaks again...
Any ideas? It's VERY frustrating since it happens several times a day. I can call AT&T, but they're pretty much useless.
Thanks for any advice!

Threaded SMS broken, need fix!

Hi, everyone,
I recently flashed a custom ROM that I really, really like, stable and fast (HelteROM). But there's a HUGE glaring issue that's wrong with it, and that's threaded SMS.
For some reason, I can't respond to texts at all while threaded SMS is enabled. Opening the SMS from the TouchFLO 3D tab, opening them from the inbox, it's all the same: the words SMS/MMS show up on the taskbar, but otherwise the screen doesn't change. The SMS doesn't load for me to reply to it.
Tapping the X does nothing to remove the SMS/MMS text from the taskbar, either. I have to press the Home key to be kicked back to the Home screen, and I STILL haven't been able to open the SMS to reply to it. ;_;
Turning off threaded SMS from Advanced Config lets me respond to the texts just fine, so I know it's a threaded SMS issue. Is there some sort of cab that I can install to fix this issue? I've run into the same problem numerous times from different custom ROMS, but I've dealt with those by flashing different ROMs instead. I wanna stick with this ROM, though, so I could REALLY use the help!
Same problem
I have the same problem that you describe on my stock Sprint Touch Pro. I cannot open or reply to SMS messages when threaded SMS is enabled, but I can see them in classic view.
This happened pretty recently, and I think it was because an e-mail that it for some reason didn't like was forwarded to my phone as a text message.
I've tried deleting the cemail.vol file and that didn't fix it. If you figure this out, I'd love to hear the solution.

[Q] Long Texts Turn Into Random Characters

No matter what ROM I flash when I send a long text that converts to MMS it turns into random garbled characters. It appears to send fine on my end but whoever I send it to gets an unreadable text. This happens with every ROM and with any messaging app I try. I'll attach a screenshot of what it looks like. Does anyone have any advice?
Thanks
Also...
I have tried multiple messaging apps such as Handcent and I get the same results. I'm aware that I can split the messages into multiple SMS as a workaround but I really just want it to convert long messages to MMS like it supposed to and not send them as garbage. Thanks.
Ummmm.....I could be wrong, but I don't believe that has ever worked??? Have had my ns4g for over a year and it has always had to split SMS......or at least I have always set it to split......

Ok, that's kinda what I figured. Thanks for the quick reply.

Google Keyboard slow to open after unlocking via fingerprint

Pretty much what the title says. My Samsung S6 is set up to use the Google keyboard and the Google Now launcher.
I'll receive a notification for a message, tap the notification, then hold my finger over the scanner to unlock and go directly to the app that notified me.
The phone unlocks fine, and I'm taken directly to the app (usually Facebook or SMS)
Normally, the first thing I'll want to do is reply to the message for which I was notified, so I'll tap in the text field but receive no response. It sometimes takes several seconds for the phone to respond and display the Google keyboard. This doesn't occur with the Samsung keyboard.
Has anyone else experienced this, or have a fix?

I also have this issue. I thought locking the keyboard in the memory would resolve it but nope. No idea what causes it. I managed to fix it a while back but I have no idea what I did that fixed it.

Clear the app data for Google Keyboard. That seems to have fixed it for me.

This works for me temporarily, but it's usually within a day or two that the keyboard becomes slow to respond again.
If left alone for long enough without clearing the data, it becomes slow to respond just switching between apps too.
